The scones were good and reasonably priced at $3.50. The vibe inside is sad and the pastries look tired and not appetizing. The service was perfunctory and the women barely acknowledged us. Bakeries are usually happy and bustling places but this was not.

They have a lovely selection of various savory and sweet pastries including empanadas, quiches, tarlets, cookies, and more. I had the Banana Cream Tarlet and the Empanada Del Horno filled with beef, olive, and egg and it was delish! Super nice folks, fair prices, great vibes in a quiet neighborhood spot. Definitely coming back to try more of their goodies!

TLDR: A small, local bakery with quite a bit of variety. They have some exceptional baked goods that left me wanting more. I would recommend going if you're in the area. This place was not on my radar at all, it being so far away from the commercial area. I was introduced to this place by my brother, who goes around San Francisco and tries out many of the bakeries in the city. The bakery is not the easiest to see when passing by, it being fairly small. Upon entering, the first thing you see is the pastry case housing all of the baked goods that they have produced for the day. Directly behind the counter, there are people in the back working, making the baked goods, so there is a continuous stream of bread and pastries to be sold. As you focus your attention to the left, there is the register where you make your order, pay, and receive your order. I got a chicken empanada, warmed, and a hot cross. When the lady on register asked if I wanted my empanada warmed, she asked if I wanted to warm it by oven for one minute or oven for seven minutes. I wasn't listening that attentively so I asked her to repeat it, which she did and I didn't understand the difference. After a small back and forth and her becoming slightly frustrated, I realized she misspoke and meant to say microwave. All this to say, you can either microwave or bake the empanada. She gave me my hot cross and I sat down on one of the tables to wait for my empanada to be heated. The hot cross was amazing and nothing like what I was expecting. The pastry looks like a scone, but it is nothing like a scone at all. It is unexpectedly soft, much like bread. The bun (I would say it resembles a bun) has dried fruits in it, raisins and dried orange peels. The two dried fruit created a combination of both sweet and tangy that worked well together. The cross on the top was some kind of icing, that overall added to the sweetness of the bun. It was very good, to the point that I bought a second one when I was leaving. After waiting the six minutes, the empanada was finished and it was good. The crust of the empanada was very flaky and it broke apart easily in my mouth. The stuffing inside was well seasoned, the chicken was flavorful and the corn was a plus. Overall though, it was nothing special about it. As for the bakery as a whole, they're pretty good. I felt the lady on the counter was a bit rude, but she was most likely working since the morning and was flustered. The empanada was alright, but, as stated before, nothing special. The hot cross, however, was absolutely delightful and were pretty must sold out by the time I was leaving, yearning for a second one. If I am every in the area, I would go back to try some more things there.

A hidden Gem. A very endearing bakery with excellent pastries, quiches and bread baked on premises. The pastries are of such great quality in a shop that looks past it’s former glory. But it’s what gives it it’s wonderful Aura. It holds so many stories in its walls.

Update 11/27/24: Until the owner had his heart attack, the shop was staffed with personable middle-aged local women mostly. They were efficient, attentive and really made me feel welcome. Now, I think the owner is trying to foster younger aspiring bakers and now the shop is mainly staffed by people in their 20s who definitely do not make people feel welcome. Cold and always looking for tips. In regards to the product, I suspect but cannot be certain that the confluence of the owner's personal health problem, COVID and then inflation, made it economically necessary to cut costs by doing things like reducing the amount of butter he uses to make the croissant, reducing item sizes, and more importantly reduce his morning baking inventory. There are many times I stop by at 2 pm and there are no muffins, pastries, or anything else left. Even if this is due to an increase in morning customer purchases it means little planning is done for the needs of afternoon ones. When I originally wrote my review, I was visiting the shop 2 to e times a week. Now, not knowing if they will have any inventory when I can go in the afternoon and the chilly response from the staff has discouraged me to the point I do not stop by even once a month. Generally speaking the quality of this bakery is still so much better than most you can find in SF, I still recommend its product. It pains me to write this but I can't recommend the shop. I was this shop and others like it to succeed. I have waited over a year to revise my review hoping as the owner addressed and overcome the significant obstacles he was facing, the shop would return to it's old self. However, I stopped this last Saturday and was appalled at the treatment I received. There was no product left. Neither of the shop staff seemed concerned I'd driving across town to get a pastrie for lunch and yet again left empty handed because their was no inventory. ORIGINAL REVIEW 7 years ago During the summer it has some of the best fresh fruit pies in the city made at the end of the week from seasonally fresh fruit just in time for weekend. Croissants made of genuine puff pastry dough instead of that mysterious American bread material most are made of these days. Great bread. Small desserts. Custom cakes. All made of simple, fresh, local (as possible I imagine) ingredients with Incredible results.

A real destination in Glen Park. Everything is freshly baked on premise. And cheery service from Debbie and her crew !

This bakery destination is a hidden gem in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood. Destination Bakery has lots of bake goods like their carrot cake and cinnamon buns. Since Xmas is almost here this is the destination to grab last minute sweet and savory bake goods. I got the beef empanada which was very savory and very tasty. I also got the savory ham and cheese croissant which was delicious. I also got the Xmas tree short bread which looked sweet but was not that sweet but very yummy. It's a good bakery destination in San Francisco to discover savory and sweet bake goods. Failed 2nd inspection with rodent visually seen by inspector..... This makes me question why I want to revisit this place. The bakery items were good, but not worth getting sick over...

Closed due to rodent infestation! Yuck! SF Gate's article says the bakery failed a reinspection during which a rodent was observed in the kitchen.

You can smell the freshly baked challah from down the road! This is the spot for Glen Park/Noe Valley locals. Self serve hot coffee, no fuss. Locally run, they have empanadas, muffins, bread, croissants, and more! It's CASH ONLY!! I loved the energy and loyal local folks who come regularly. I got the cheese danish, it was creamy and had that little crunch to it. This shop has been open for over 20 years! They have indoor tables and nice outdoor bench. The owners were kind and warm. I will be back to try the challah!!

I've been on the hunt for the best cinnamon roll (or bun?) in the city, and found it here! After passing by this spot for *decades*, I finally stopped in, and I'm so glad I did. Everything is made from scratch, and the owner/baker is a really cool dude. Other must-try goodies include the banana cream tarts, sour cream coffee cake, sticky buns--honestly, everything. Love this quaint, quiet neighborhood gem in Glen Park! Heads up- it's cash only!

This is truly a secret gem for pastry lovers: great variety, all freshly made plus delicious coffee. This is a nice stop if you are on the crosstown trail across SF. Street parking is available if you find the spot. This is a nice residential area, so better park somewhere outside the area and walk. The prices are lower than usual. There is a restroom for the customers. They accept credit cards and cash. There are 2 tables inside, and a couple of outdoors benches.

Hidden gem. The best blueberry danish I've had in a long time. Their cappuccino was also delicious. Lots of fresh pastries popping out but I would definitely arrive early to get a great selection - especially on the weekend. Very friendly service and a cozy inside along with outdoor benches. Had the pleasure of meeting Indie, who was so kind and gave my pup a treat to have outside while I enjoyed my goodies. They prefer cash but accept cards.

The best tartlets and great cookies! My daughter just discovered their cinnamon rolls, and that's her new favorite. Everything we have ordered has been tasty.

But, here you are...posting a review to let the Yelp world know! (I'm kidding btw.) Yas, I'm going to be that person today because IF you can get me to eat olives...you deserve mad props! Destination Baking Company has been around longer than Yelp which says a lot. Driven by a million times but never stepped in because I'm not a sweets person. BUT, then I saw they had savory empanadas. SOLD! Destination Baking Company has three savory empanadas available ($5-$6): https://tinyurl.com/y2j8kyc9 * Beef: Fav of the three; Argentinian-inspired with flavorful and moist ground beef, quarter boiled egg, raisins, and olives. The salty brininess of the olives are masked by the rich spices so even an olive hater like me enjoys it. * Potato Samosa: Tender potatoes with a bite. The flavor was more nuanced compared to Indian samosas but you still get the warming spices. * Chicken & Corn: Least fav; bland and uneven ratio of corn to white meat. The empanadas are large with a deliciously flaky, golden brown pastry crust. One empanada with soup or salad is good enough for a meal. On my last visit, I popped in to grab an empanada for a quick meal on-the-go and it was stone cold. Like it was just brought out from the freezer so I had to go home to warm it up. Hope this was an anomaly. Overall, it's not surprising that the beef empanada is the first flavor to be sold out...which is why I'm hesitant to post this review. But hey, gotta give Destination Baking Company props if they can make an olive hater like me craaave their beef empanadas! I've only been here two days and I love this place. Everything is fresh and items frequently sell out! Because it's Christmas, they are selling whole panettone cakes and gingerbread people. I can't buy an entire panettone cake but I got two gingerbread people for fun! I also got two empanadas which are huge and the last two veggie samosas which are also huge! Can't wait to try them! The regular customer lady behind me also wanted samosas but I apparently got the last ones! They offered to call her when they had some freshly made! Very cool! I'm glad I got here earlier today! 11am! Life is good with a fun local bakery!!

Great local place. Down home in SF. One morning it was a grumpy woman and the next a friendly woman. All good. Classic.

Cute little place tucked away on Chenery street in Glen Park. Was meeting a friend and we hadn't eaten lunch so got a few savory baked goods to make up for lunch. The quiche Lorraine would have been more than enough at $5.95 but I decided to get the vegetable samosa ($4.95) and scallion and cheddar scone ($4) anyway. My friend ended up getting a samosa and the bread pudding. Our request for food to be warmed up was willingly obliged and we sat there for 2 hours and savored our pickings. There was no crowd on a Wednesday afternoon and we had a really nice time. I ended up making it through the samosa and the 1/4 of the quiche. The portions were large... And I love bringing home such delicious leftovers. Of course I'm going back again another day.

My boyfriend comes to Destination every Saturday and picks up a box of goodies, but I finally had the chance to go for myself and try it for the first time! I was so excited! The pastry items that I ordered this time around were: 1) Cinnamon Roll - Absolutely delicious! It is sweet, but that is to be expected. 2) Almond Bear Claw - The almond bear claw, chocolate croissant, and blueberry danish all are made using the same dough. It was baked well with nice layers and the almond filling was good. Could use slightly more but I enjoyed it. 3) Chocolate Croissant - The croissant was nice and flaky, good texture. I think it could use a little bit more chocolate filling though. 4) Blueberry Muffin - the blueberry muffin had so many large blueberries in it and I was surprised by that. The muffin was not too sweet either and I liked it a lot. 5) Blueberry Danish - Not too sweet and again the pastry flake/texture was good. This bakery is such a gem that does not disappoint. I will definitely be back for more!

A few years ago, when I was looking at new places to live, one of the biggest factors was being closer to this bakery. No lie. Everything is at least good, but many choices are excellent: The coffee. It's the best in the neighborhood. Strong but not aggressive. The bread pudding. Insane sugary custard studded with sweet raisins. They'll tell you to warm it up but I think it's better cold. Has a thicker texture that way. The banana cream tartlet. Smooth and creamy, with a strong banana flavor. And it's a charming little space. Two tables indoors, two benches outdoors. The worst part is that it's closed on Mondays. I really wish I could start my workweek here. I'm sure I'd be a more cordial coworker that way.

WARNING! Don't mistakenly bring outside food/coffee into the establishment unless you want to trigger and get scolded by their OWNER. The baked goods are okay. My wife frequently visits with our preschool son every Friday morning before school. My son enjoys the chocolate croissant. Unfortunately, my wife mistakenly brought in a brand name coffee to enjoy along with their baked goods in one quiet Friday morning. Plenty of seats were available at the time. As soon as they sat down, the owner ANGRILY approaches and tells them they aren't welcome to eat inside with the outside coffee she purchased. I understand the unspoken rule that outside/rival food shouldn't be allowed to be eaten inside any Mom/Pop shop. I also understand good customer service when situations like this arise. I've received more polite responses when forgetting water in my bag when preparing to board a plane. Treating regular customers in such a OUTRAGED manner is puzzling considering your competing with big name coffee companies. I support local shops, until they start acting PETTY and forget about good customer service. Props to their cashier, Debbie. She was extremely sweet and apologetic when my family was kicked out though. lol

Make sure you go on the right days because they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Also go as early as possible because they usually sell out of their stuff as they get closer to closing time. My favorite thing to get here are the empanadas. They are flaky and generously sized. I switch between the beef or the chicken one but both are good. The good thing about the beef empanadas are that they have boiled eggs in them. They are also more filling because of the egg. The good thing about the chicken empanadas are that they are less filling and taste like chicken pot pie. Their bench outside is south facing and therefore super sunny. It's nice to eat your pastry on the bench, but remember to bring sunglasses or wear sunscreen to be more comfortable.

I really like the fact that it's a local place and they have a nice selection of sweet and savory pastries with friendly service, but after having gotten several different things, I would rate it as decent, but not something to rave about. Chicken empanada with corn and cilantro - good size portion that I heated in the oven for about 10 minutes - crispy edge, soft inside with decent amount of filling but was a little on the bland side - perhaps a little pepper or hot sauce would have done the trick. Cheddar scallion scone - decent size square but a little dense and lot of butter Sticky bun - ok but pecans would have made it a lot better Cherry danish - good filling and light on the icing but seemed on the greasy side.

I'm bummed to hear that a local business owner exercised their right to refuse on a local mom and her kid because she happened to be drinking a coffee purchased elsewhere, especially since she's been a regular for years and purchased several pastries to go that day and simply wanted to take a load off and let her kid have one of his favorite treats. It makes me wonder what made the business owner behave in such a beastly way to someone who grew up in the area who also makes the effort to support local businesses but happens to like coffee from another place. Be warned -- this could happen to you.

I dunno. They don't have a huge variety of options to choose from. Got a small banana cream pie deal-e-o. Was fine, not great - was supposed to have an almond crust, but I couldn't taste any almond at all - maybe my palette isn't refined enough for it.

A delicious bakery in Glen Park! Just a block or two uphill from the center of Glen Park, these pastries are not to be missed! My favorites are the coffee cake and the croissants. They have sweet and savory pastries, desserts, and also coffee! Customer service is always super friendly.

How could a baker in good faith put a "croissant" like this in a display case to sell? Burned, flat...yuck!

This was my second time at this bakery to grab some goodies to satisfy my sweet tooth. The first time I went I stopped by pretty late in the day so the only thing that was left was a savory quiche. The quiche was quite good and reasonably priced so this time I decided to try their sweet items. Got the banana tart and coffee cake. The lady at the counter who I am assuming is the owner was quite sweet and greeted me right after I entered the store. I loved the coffee cake. The banana tart for me was just okay. Would love to try their other items. Mist importantly its very reasonably priced.

Today I went in for some baked goods; there was a young girl who worked there sitting making pie crusts with her boyfriend I assume. They were kissing while making the pie crusts. She got up to help me took my money then sat back down without washing her hands and started shaping the pie crusts again. Yuck.

Great neighborhood gem, but parking can be challenging. Some items are FANTASTIC....some are a pass. Personally cone here for thier chocolate mini tarts (A++), Lemon mini tarts (A+++), Apple strudel crumb mini (A)....and thier different quiche when they have (A+++). Them there are things like chocolate croissant...I'd suggest pass..(kinda greasy mess). Definitely worth a drive...get a few different items and explore.

Definitely a "local" bakery. The inside decor looks bland and the packaging is plain as well- no branding whatsoever. I'm all for supporting local shops but it almost felt like I could get similar items at a grocery store at the same price and with better packaging. Despite not being overly busy, service was slow. Called ahead to see if they had an apple pies, and they were able to put one on reserve for me until I got off work, which was very nice. Had the typical issue with pies: love the crust, hate the filling. The apples had their skin on (not sure why, but the texture was pretty weird.) Like how the crust wasn't overly glazed or sweet. Overall, I think it's just ok. Don't think I would go out of my way to come here, as there are way better options in the city, but not terrible.

Oh I love their challah! Gorgeous rich golden color, so tender, lasts for days and makes excellent French toast. Tartlets are great and recently a peach pie blew my mind.

Wow... a real bakery that makes great-tasting pastries, serves decent coffee, and has friendly, chatty staff. DBC is my favorite find of my COVID walks. For months I did morning five-mile strolls around my house and collected sights and smells of places I wanted to check out. I didn't go in anywhere until after my second shot. And then, ugh, several disappointments! I found "coffee shops" that made coffee that was less flavorful than what I brew at home. And the scones and pastries at these shops mostly taste like they come from the same off-premises cardboard manufacturing plant. DBC, on the other hand, has less cute charm and no parklet seating, but their very rewarding, simple baked goods. The selection is limited (at least when I go by at 7:30 am) but absolutely satisfying. I am fan of the blueberry Danish, but cinnamon rolls are excellent, too.

A very good bakery. All the usual Americana standards: scones, brown sugar burns, and the like, are buttery and crispy. Not revelatory, but I'd be thrilled to have something like it in my neighborhood.

The onl bakery in San Francisco with a true Danish! The apricot pastries use delicious local apricots, as do the incredible pies. At Easter the hot cross buns are superb. The staff is always pleasant, and the fresh breads scrumptious.

This place is a gem. Some very lovely people run the place and everything here is incredible. The veggie quiche is one of the best I've ever had!

I wake up thinking about the baked goods from here and if I should walk down the hill for a visit - rationing out my visits as to not put on more covid pounds. They have the best ham and cheese croissant in all of SF. Black forest ham, gruyere, hint of mustard. (chef's kiss). I eagerly await for my moment to order then shop keep meticulously picks me out the best one, tells me the total, calls me honey, and sends me on my way. Their pastries are honestly addicting so visit at your own risk. When they have coffee cake it's a real treat. I don't recommend the drip coffee from the push container, but I think the espresso versions are good. Bear claw is excellent. Almond croissants on the weekends usually. Salivating - it's all delicious and the staff are real gems :)

Love the homey feel of this place and that the pastries rotate and have such clear love behind them. It is a true neighborhood spot. Unfortunately on my last visit, I ordered 2 blueberry muffins and when the staff member gave them to me in a bag, I noticed a huge fly baked into the top of one of them. I kindly returned them to her and she did not know what to do. I had to ask her for new muffins and she gave me 2 muffins from the same tray without inspecting them. (They were fine but should have probably been looked at at least!) Then when I went to eat them, they were soggy and underbaked in the middle. Think there is room for improvement.

My hubby and I love going to bakeries and trying their different pastries. This hands down has the best quiche I've ever had. The crust was very flaky and the filling was very creamy. And just look at the sticky bun that's full of nuts. Yum!!! Can't wait to go back...Btw, prices were very reasonable! Perfect!!!

Definitely my favorite bakery - I always get the ham and cheese croissant from there (which has some mustard in it to give it extra flavor) but the coffee cake and the almond bear claws from there are also great. Coffee is so-so and I wish they were open on Sundays and Mondays but I can't really complain too much when the baked good are so good!

I'm always excited to try new bakeries, and had the chance to stop by Destination on a Friday afternoon. They weren't busy around 2pm, but they had already sold out of a lot of items, so you'll have to come early if you want to see the full selection. I ended up trying: -Sticky Bun ($3.75): This was a giant sticky bun, but it was on the doughier/heavier side. I think they also added cardamom or some other strong tasting spice, which I felt ruined the overall taste of the sticky bun. I wouldn't get this again. -Mazarin (Almond/Raspberry) Tartlet ($2.85) & Apple Streusel Tartlet ($2.75) [https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=10SOO3BYbqk18UDM_XSVOg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg]: The mazarin was good overall, but the almond and raspberry flavors were very light. The crust was also very hard since I had it straight from the display fridge. This was good, but I'm not sure I would get it again. The apple streusel wasn't very good- the filling was too thin, but the topping was good. I think this would have been better if I re-heated it a bit in the oven first. I probably wouldn't get this again though. -Carrot Cake ($3.50): Yum- this was my favorite item from this bakery. The cake was moist, and the cream cheese frosting was really good. Recommended! They also bake homemade fruit pies, but sadly, do not sell them by the slice! I hope that changes at some point. I would come back to try their other items if I was in the area, but would only come if it was earlier in the morning. There isn't much parking right in front of the bakery, but there are some street parking spots a short walking distance away.

Went to this bakery this morning and had the worst bear claw ever and the cream curdled in my coffee. I threw both away. Not only that the owner was super grumpy and unkind to one of his employees. Unhappy place. Don't waste your money!

My most favorite bakery! Ditch Tartine and come here for the croissants (well, not too many of you, as Destination often sells out by the afternoon) . Everything is perfectly portioned, so a daily croissant feels totally reasonable - and on Saturdays the almond croissants are a wonderful splurge. The empanadas are deliciously flaky and buttery - as a veggie, I go for the samosa flavor, and it hits the spot. Destination is so charming, and I love to see it thrive.

The male worker complimented my outfit so just take an updated repeated 5*. Take it. Plus the ham cheese croissant inspired me. I went and bought gruyere because it is so stinky and delicious.

Ham and cheese croissants were so unbelievably greasy it was like they had been deep fried. Don't know if the butter wasn't laminated into the dough properly, but it all seeped out.

The place itself is small and cute. I got a croissant and a pain au chocolat. The pain au chocolat had brown sugar on top of it, which is very strange. In fact, so strange that I will only review the croissant: (Almost Snobbish and French) Croissant Review: - Appearance: 2/5 (it looks kinda sad, don't you think? What an odd shape... This croissant doesn't look very healthy! It needs to work out a bit. Maybe some Vitamin D and a vacation too...) - Texture: 3/5 (a nice crunch on the outside, but something feels off inside. Basically like talking to your techy friends in SF... Also, not enough layers are present. And it's not flaky enough either. Damn. What a shame. That last bit should be read in Gordon Ramsay's voice...) - Price: 3/5 (Almost 3 bucks for a croissant? And then they wonder why I voted Bernie...) - Taste: 2/5 (who thought it would be a good idea to dip the whole croissant in butter after it's done cooking? Because that's the overwhelming taste here... Butter. Not like a subtle hint of it either. More like shoving a spoon of butter in my mouth kind of experience. The croissant can't actually express itself if it's covered in butter. When you go out with friends and decide to put 5 layers of makeup on, you gotta ask yourself: what have I become? Is this really me? Same thing here...) - Verdict: GUILLOTINE! I mean, the pastries are not that bad. They're just not that good either! Green tea was pretty good, though...

Nice neighborhood bakery. Pastries are tasty. Good balance of sweatness. Buttery goodness. Watch out if you are on diet though. These patries are good but not light. Recommend enjoying them with a good cup of coffee or black tea.

This little bakery has been appearing on all my feeds and I finally had to make my way out to try this perfect local bakery! The woman greeted me at the door with a cheery and humble smile. I ordered a small coffee with a cinnamon butter horn and its the perfect morning combination. The coffee is at a medium-dark roast, very subtle and robust in flavor and it blends perfectly with the buttery flaky pastry that reminds you of something homemade. There's a hint of cinnamon that doesn't overpower the pastry and the brown sugar crust on top gives it the perfect crunch to the light flaky bread. The icing on top is a super plus!! I told myself not to have sweets anymore... and I definitely did not cheat today! Going to surprise family with their pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving :)

This place is known for their croissants, but what is really the star is the quiche. Get the quiche. I've been coming to Destination Baking Company for a long time, and although it's a hole-in-the-wall shop it is the Bakery you've been looking for. It's a neighborhood spot that is away from the BART station enough to dissuade the tourists. It's also very small in terms of seating and quantity of foods available each day. Don't be surprised to see your favorite item gone before the morning ends!
