Detroit’s Best Taco Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"Situated within the Happy 4 Liquor store on Fort, this takeout-friendly spot is a play on owner Julie Stevens’ Guanajuato lineage and upbringing in Southwest Detroit. Stevens got her start with a pop-up and catering venture, but her food’s popularity necessitated a permanent site. Beef birria tacos are served with consomé for dipping. Other styles of tacos include ground beef, chicken, pineapple pork with chorizo and bacon, or veggies — all available in corn or flour tortillas. As bonus, Stevens’s other specialty is empanadas. Delivery is available through Doordash." - Serena Maria Daniels

Detroit Taco Pop-Up Plans New Outpost in the West Side Industrial Neighborhood | Eater Detroit

"Owned and cooked by Julie Stevens, this pop-up-turned-restaurant concept grew famous for its birria de res tacos—tender stewed beef served in tortillas dipped into a cup of consommé—and for rotating menu additions inspired by the chef’s family and time in Miami. While plans to open a John R. Road location were canceled after lease, buildout, menu and naming disagreements with the landlord, the operation continued as a popular pop-up at the owner’s husband’s family bar and experimented with vegetarian options (potato and soy chorizo tacos) as well as Puerto Rican and Cuban items like empanadas (including pizza-topped versions) and Cuban sandwiches made with the chef’s own mustard recipe. The operator emphasizes family-taught recipes and a “cook with love” philosophy, will keep popping up at the North Corktown bar during the indoor dining shutdown, and is scheduled to open a more permanent spot on Fort Street inside a party store across from Detroit’s main post office on Tuesday, January 5." - Brenna Houck

Detroit Taco Pop-Up Lands in Permanent North End Restaurant Space | Eater Detroit

"Two Southwest Detroit locals, Julie and Jason Stevens, are turning their catering business into a permanent Guanajuato-style taqueria in the North End, previewing the menu through neighborhood pop-ups and bar appearances. The menu blends traditional Guanajuato dishes with Detroit-influenced options, featuring frijoles charros, Mexican sandwiches, beef and chicken tacos, and vegan choices like spinach enchiladas. Partnered with building owner Steven Harris, the venture will emphasize takeout service while offering a mix of indoor seating and outdoor seating in an adjacent steel shipping container, with an opening expected within the next three months." - Brenna Houck

I ordered 3 beef Birria tacos that came with a sauce and it was delicious! I had plans to take them home and eat them but I took one bite while sitting in my car and didn't stop until all 3 were gone. The ladies that prepared my food was very nice and their food prep area was clean. I will definitely visit there again.

Bring your own jalapenos. Food tasted good. Portion size on the Nachos was huge. I only ate about half of it. Lots of meat and cheese. My only criticism is that I'd give up half the size on the Nacho for a few more peppers. They charge 50¢ for jalapenos but the cup only contained 4 slices... Even at store-bought prices an ounce of sliced jalapenos cost 19¢ and would include 12 slices. Their markup on the jalapenos is 733%! And that assumes they don't buy in bulk. That's crazy. Bring you own peppers.

I recently went to DLT2 in Taylor and the service, atmosphere and food were phenomenal. My partner had the burrito and couldn't even finish it. I had the birria taco dinner which was 3 tacos, rice, beans and consome and I couldn't finish my meal either. The meat, rice and beans were very flavorful. As a person who is very picky about rice and beans, I really enjoyed theirs and will definitely order them from DLT2 again!

The food is GREAT! Staff was friendly. Three really nice ladies cutting up fresh cilantro, tomato’s and onion. I had a corn soft beef taco and a beef empanada. The salsa was awesome. Thank you. Guy at register I had to pay (party store) needs to smile. Maybe he was having a bad. Def coming back!

Google
A huge shout out to Detroit Loves Tacos for catering my daughter's SURPRISE SWEET 16 yesterday. THEY ARE AMAZING. THE FOOD AND SERVICE IS S AHHHHMAZING! Very professional and personable people. They delivered and set up on time. Prices are very reasonable! Everyone raved about the food and wanted their info. Julie is great and explains everything up front. My family and I will definitely use them again.

I used to frequent this place bi-weekly because my daughter loves their birria (everything else is ok). I always ask for no cilantro (she's allergic) recently they just add it anyway. I didnt say anything the last time because mistakes happen but to continue and disregard food allergies, is negligent. When I called to rectify the issue I was left on hold. I will not return, its not worth the headache or waste of my hard earned money.

Food is good, prices decent and for the most part service is fine. As of about the last year though, they have begun making some mistakes on orders - Not many, but some. More concerning though is that in that same time frame, out of the blue they've stopped answering their phone. They've been told about it by different customers but just keep acting surprised. This might not be wise considering the plethora of Mexican alternatives in the area.

I have to say, best tacos I’ve had in the entire Detroit area. I had the steak and it was so juicy and sooo flavorful. The rice was very authentic and had that Spanish flavor. The customer service was great and they got my order perfect. They even gave us a couple free sides of rice! All in all we had a great time and we will definitely be going back for more!
