Relaxed spot serving Detroit-style deep dish pizza slices & pies, plus buffalo wings & antipasto.
"This pizza spot on Commercial Street has exposed brick, American paraphernalia hung up around the place, and our favourite Detroit-style pizza in the city. It’s an in-and-out kind of place, with a handful of high tables and stools where you can perch, making this Spitalfields spot a great place to hit up for a quick weekday lunch. They also have a roomier Islington location if you’re rolling with a group. A single slice of their Red Stripe is enough to fill you up—the dough is so chewy and fluffy, with a layer of cheese and a river of rich marinara on top, but we're willing to bet you'll want a whole pie." - rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna
"In a part of the city that’s associated with suits and boardrooms, this deep-dish, square-slice pizza shop is one of the only reasons we’d be found within three miles of a Liverpool Street office building on a weekend. Detroit Pizza understands the importance of pillowy bases, rivers of rich marinara sauce, and providing Londoners with square slices that—dare we say it—would rival those of New York pizza shops. And the charm of this low-key restaurant doesn’t end at those hauntingly good 8 by 10-inchers. The casual, perch-on-a-stool energy of the place creates a consistent buzz post 6pm every day." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"This Detroit-style pizza place serves mozzarella-covered, marinara-heavy pizzas that have a fluffy, focaccia-like crust we’d happily nap on. A single slice of its Red Stripe is enough to fill you up, but the dough is so chewy and pillowy, with a layer of cheese and a river of rich marinara on top, that we're willing to bet you'll want a whole pie. Come here for a foolproof lunchtime spot, get a slice or two while perching on one of their stools, and feel smug that you’ve secured one of the best pizzas in London. If you’re looking for more of a sit-down dinner, head to their spacious Islington spot." - jake missing, rianne shlebak
"Is there anything more comforting than a pizza so thick that it could double as a pillow? Yes, it’s pizza topped with minced beef, pickles, and burger sauce. Turns out that combining two of the most-loved comfort foods actually works—well at least it does at this casual Spitalfields pizza spot. Detroit Pizza specialises in deep-dish pizzas expertly cooked in steel pans, and a meal here is the kind that requires a nap after. Which is kind of perfect seeing as you have no desire whatsoever to speak to anyone in the next two to 48 hours." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"This little Spitalfields restaurant isn’t the kind of place you’re going to spend hours in. But with a handful of high tables and stools where you can perch, and 10 pizzas you’ll want to devour, it makes for an excellent back-pocket lunch or dinner choice. Even better is that you can get the classic ‘Red Stripe’—a simultaneously chunky, crispy, and fluffy slice that has a river of rich marinara on top—or pepperoni by the slice. Both are a fiver a go." - team infatuation
