Niles’ micro-roaster known for meticulous pour-overs, in a space built by the owners. Profiled by SFGATE and praised by local coffee diehards, it’s a morning anchor for exploring antique shops and the film museum next door.

Devout Coffee is such an important part of my morning ritual--and honestly, my happiness. I love dropping by to pick up my almond milk latte and a chocolate chip cookie, and every time, it brings me a sense of comfort. It is reassuring to know that Devout is still going strong. Walking in and the staff always greets warmly, I see locals stop by often so it seems like the place to be. Warm staff and ones that make really beautiful latte designs if I say so myself. The coffee? Hands down, amazing. The espresso is smooth, rich, and feels like a warm hug before a long, hectic workday. Devout's chocolate chip cookie is hands down THE best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had, to say I am addicted is an understatement. I dream about this cookie. It is warm, the chocolate-to-dough ratio is perfection, and the sprinkle of salt on top takes it to another level. 100/10. The space itself is minimal and chic--black and wood interiors with limited but cozy seating, perfect for a quick stay. Parking is mostly street, but there's a big garage right across the street which makes it super convenient. Old Town Niles has such a calm, charming vibe in the mornings. Just being there helps calm the mind--and starting it off with Devout makes it even better.

First time here and I am quite impressed with this nice little coffee shop. I like the mood and tone, the shop is well decorated and styled. Staffs are nice and will help you with order. I think this spot is popular as well, there are a few people here. However, I think the drink is so so, I got myself an iced mocha. It's good, but not stellar. The price is reasonable. I would stop by again if I want a drink.

Google
Nilei is a cool little town, and this coffee shop is a must-stop! The style totally fits the old-school vibe, which I loved. Coffee was good, though that Tonic + Espresso is a bit different. Awesome latte art and a great open space to chill. Friendly folks working there, good atmosphere – just a heads up, it can get a little noisy with the biker shop next door. Still, I'll be back for sure

Google
Nice place, spacious outdoor patio, beautiful cofre drinks. Unfortunately absolutely no pastries by 2pm Sunday, which was a bummer as we were hungry. Coffee is beautifully presented with slight sour and bitter notes.

Google
This coffee shop offers great espresso ☕️ made from freshly roasted beans, and many happy customers attest to its service. Although we were just passing through this area, we will definitely stop by again some other day. The shop is located in a charming historic downtown area that feels like a step back by the century.

Google
Very good coffee and star member was kind and helpful. Place is a bit rusty but the coffee is great. Nice outdoor seating to chat or get some work done.

Google
When I bought my bag of beans I thought their bags felt lighter/ smaller than a typical 12 oz bag, but still bought it for $24. Disappointed to find when I got home, that my intuition was correct and that their 12oz/340g bags are actually under filled, weighing in at 330g including the weight of the bag. (Edit: weighed the bag itself which weights 15.7g, so really the effective weight of the beans is 315g.) I love supporting local coffee shops but can’t get behind this kind of business practice. :(

Google
Their coffee is SO GOOD! Got the house syrup in the cappuccino and it was really tasty. You may need to wait in a line on the weekends, but I do think it’s worth it. If you go close to closing time, they may have already run out of some pastries - so recommend going early!

Yelp
Great Coffee! Drinks: basic coffee drinks. No sweet drinks, true coffee shop. Latte: creamy and smooth Latte with house syrup: Great, tasty a little sweet. Mocha: Good and smooth Hot Coco: my teenager said just ok. Service: very good, started with a great greeting. Ambiance very cool with wood and metal seating, they have a great outdoor seating area.

Yelp
N I t the plain whiteout ambiance. That's for sure, it's the roasting@ alot of shops use their roaster, really string and smoky flavorful. Check outside patio in eves in summer, but they close early-impressive! It's just a coffee place to pu and go if you don't stay in small area front. Now, during covid I'll give credit, one of the few houses to pen immediately after we r C-19 to serve Niles Community-nice, even p-town's Inklings uses their blends. A touch of modern in an old brick bldg and try their mocha it is true powder cocoa not Hershey syrup. Smart choice Devout@Niles

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place but found it a bit underwhelming overall. The space is quite limited, so it's not the most comfortable spot if you're looking to settle in and get some work done. The location isn't the easiest to get to, which adds to the inconvenience. While there aren't many options on the menu, they do have some nice coffee beans if you're looking to take something home. That said, the ambience just doesn't draw me in as much as other places I've been to, so I don't see myself coming back often

Yelp
It was an amazing coffee experience. Nestled in historic Niles, with beautiful hills as the backdrop of this quaint but impressive little coffee roasterie. The coffee was delicious and you can taste the artisanal notes of a truly Devout workmanship. Service was nothing short of amazing. A true place of hospitality and warm welcome. I was grateful to be able to meet and converse with one of the managers there. I really appreciated his commitment and courage to share and bring hope and love to his community. Praying for more blessings!

Yelp
Nice little coffee shop in Niles with limited seating. Was my first time here and the guy helping me was really nice and helpful. Menu is simple it is definitely for real coffee drinkers straight to the point! I ordered a hot matcha latte and it was amazing! Best one I ever had! So smooth and creamy! I didn't see any pastries tho? Really nice people here. Definitely will be back

Yelp
Came during the 2024 holiday season, so I ordered one of the holiday drinks! I got the peppermint hot chocolate and... the chocolate did not taste rich and I barely got a taste of peppermint. This was disappointing since Devout has so many good reviews, but probably for their coffee (not non-coffee drinks). This is located in Niles, so street parking can be difficult. There's not a lot of indoor seating, but there's an outdoor patio with seating.

Yelp
I love devout! I've been coming here for a few years now and it really never disappoints. I went this past weekend and though it's always busy, staff are always so sweet and friendly! I asked for options for a decaf latte and they were able to make exactly that. It tasted so yummy and was exactly what I wanted. I've also had their hot chocolate and it is good! The outside area is also super cute and lovely to sit and enjoy. Prices are not bad at all!

Yelp
I had the pleasant surprise and opportunity to enjoy their coffee at their mobil setup at a wedding I attended at the Sikh Temple Gurdwara in Fremont CA. They were quick , explained everything and the coffee was perfection. Honestly I never knew they existed if it weren't for this setup. They were a hit as the lines for the coffee were consistent. I will definitely recommend their mobile services it's unique and it wakes you up also if you partied hard the night before or just need a caffeine fix in the early morning of a wedding or any other occasion function. I will definitely find my self one day at their brick and mortar and try the coffee there and see the difference hopefully it's the same version taste. Try them Tips are appreciated

Yelp
I am not a coffee drinker, but I am coming back to Devout for its amazingly rich, not too sweet, delectable, oh so chocolatey double chocolate chip muffin. Wow! Absolutely divine. I also enjoyed my almond milk hot chocolate to complete the chocolate overdose. There was an interesting spice that I couldn't quite identify, but it added a great kick. Weather-permitting, the patio area is a fantastic hang out spot.

Yelp
Devout Coffee is a pretty chill spot tucked away in Niles, Fremont. The vibe here is relaxed and perfect for anyone looking to enjoy quality coffee in a peaceful setting. Their coffee beans are top-notch, and the latte I had was incredibly smooth--a real treat for coffee lovers. That said, there are a few downsides. The inside seating is very limited, which might be a drawback if you're hoping to hang out or work indoors. They also don't offer flavored syrups or add-ons for their coffee, so if you enjoy a touch of sweetness or variety in your cup, you might need to adjust your expectations. Additionally, the baristas seemed a little unwelcoming, which took away from the overall experience. Another thing to note is that it's slightly expensive. We ordered two lattes, one butter croissant, and one almond croissant, and our total came to $26 plus tip. While the quality is undeniable, the pricing might feel a bit steep for what you get. Overall, it's a great place for coffee purists who appreciate well-crafted beverages, but the service, setup, and pricing could use a little improvement.

Yelp
Niles is a quiet little town. This is one of my favorite coffee shops. High quality coffee and chic environment.
google avatar

Yelp
Devout coffee is a nice spot to grab a latte. They have a pretty chill space, friendly staff, and some food, too. It's not the most convenient place to park near, but it's usually not a big walk from wherever you find to park on the street. My main complaint is that they don't really offer any flavor options for their lattes. That said, their plain latte is quite good for what it is. So, if you're more of a coffee purist, you likely will very much enjoy their drinks. I personally like a bit of a sweeter flavored drink.
google avatar

Uni C.

Yelp
Devout Coffee is such a charming spot, perfect for coffee enthusiasts. I tried their cold brew, and it was smooth, refreshing, and had a rich, bold flavor. You can tell they take their craft seriously with the quality of the beans and brewing process. The atmosphere is cozy and laid-back, with both indoor and outdoor seating options that are great for hanging out or getting some work done. The service was quick, which added to the overall pleasant experience. If you're in the area and need a solid coffee fix, this is a great place to stop by!
google avatar

Marc N.

Yelp
I like how the inside is set up and how when you first walk in, it breaks down the difference types of coffee you can order based on the espresso shot. ie, what the name of the drink is as you add more and more milk. I got the cold brew and I thought it was more on the sweeter side. So it depends on what you like. Pretty average but good service and good vibes all around.

Yelp
I have always wondered about Devout Coffee, as I have tried the restaurants around the area and shopped at antique stores nearby. This is also conveniently on my way to work. I usually turn left on Nursery but sometimes I would have to drive through Niles and today was it. Since I knew they didn't exactly have the best parking, I had given myself the condition that if I could find a good parking space right away, I'd go and finally grab some coffee there. I was lucky to find a spot right in front of the coffee spot, as someone was leaving. I didn't know what to order so I asked the staff and they said their best sellers would be their lattes or cappuccinos. I went for an Iced Mocha Latte and substituted the milk with oat milk. They didn't have a lot of other flavors (or maybe I didn't have time) and they also didn't have any other size options which was something I usually look for. I expected them to have more coffee options since they're a coffee shop but I assume their focus is the quality of their coffee beans. I got my coffee quite fast which surprised me since when I order elsewhere it takes a while. I wish I had time to chill at the place since the vibe was super nice and there were not a lot of people, so I could have relaxed while waiting for my coffee. Overall the coffee is good. It's pretty standard and seems like the quality is very smooth. It was $7 for my cup of coffee, which is quite high, but I understand how small businesses work and would be happy to come back again next time -- maybe to sit down and do some work.

Yelp
When visiting downtown Niles everyone comes to Devout Coffee. We don't drink coffee so I can't speak to the coffee itself but the pastry we tried and atmosphere was great. We have a 4 year old and 1 year old and we needed a place to get a quick snack/breakfast and hang out before other places in Niles open up. The line was a little long at 9:00 am but it probably only took about 10 minutes until we ordered. FOOD - we got only the ube bun. UBE BUN - it had a chewy mochi like texture on the inside, the bun itself was very soft and ube flavor good but not overwhelming. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend. ATMOSPHERE - the inside is smaller and most people sit outside. They have high top chairs and low ones and lots of areas for people to walk around (including kids). It was the perfect spot to grab a morning snack before checking out the rest of Niles. Overall, definitely recommend if you're in downtown Niles.

Yelp
Love this coffee spot! It's located in Niles area and has been around for awhile. I love how they have outdoor seating that's dog friendly, so I was able to bring my little dog while grabbing a nice cup of coffee on a Saturday morning. They know how to make coffee - I got a cup of flat white which didn't taste as bitter or burnt as other places do. It was a nice cup of coffee that kept me awake the whole day - the caffeine content must be higher! The service is pretty efficient despite the long lines Saturday morning. I saw one main barista making the drinks with another one helping out, plus a cashier taking the orders. They were able to crank out drinks left and right without too much wait. I only had to wait no more than 5 minutes for my cup of coffee. The outdoor seating had plenty of seating from tables/chairs to bar tables to benches with covering to protect from sun/rain. We were able to relax outside with the dog and enjoy a nice Saturday afternoon. The line picked up really fast closer to 1030am, so do come early if you want to avoid the lines! Parking is mostly street parking or that lot across the street.

Yelp
Great coffee! Good service. Came on a weekday and it was a little slow, but the drinks came out great! Yummy pastries! Fun place! Loved hanging out in the patio outside!

Yelp
Solid coffee drinks to boast your day or mood Their beans are roasted to perfection and they have a wonderful variety of varieties

Yelp
I visited Devout Coffee for the first time last weekend. It was in a nice neighborhood, but it was a bit hard to find parking. It's street parking only. There's a parking lot down the street, but that was full as well. Devout is quite small and there weren't many places to sit since it was so busy. I had initially planned on staying a while with my friends, but we had to leave because there were no chairs/tables available. Definitely a cute coffee shop with rustic, modern decor. The menu was basic and straightforward. It was a little pricier than expected compared to other coffee shops I've been to. My cappuccino was $8 for a 12oz cup of coffee. I wish there had been more specialty coffee menu options. The service was good and the coffee was good, but it wasn't worth the 25 minute drive for me. Would recommend if you live in the area and are looking for a grab and go coffee shop!
google avatar

Yelp
Still the best after all these years. Now a tent pole of Niles I will keep coming. Things change over the years , especially with the pandemic. But Devout has kept its quality, charm and welcoming nature. I wish they would do more seasonal drinks but, that's not the hill I'm going to die on.
google avatar

Shasha K.

Yelp
Love this place! Came with a friend twice and they have some amazing coffee. The only issue is that seating is very limited. I do love their outdoor space especially during warmer summer nights. The Niles area also is a great hangout place when meeting with friends and family!
google avatar

Alicia J.

Yelp
Service with smile! If your a coffee wake me up person or a connoisseur this is the place. Ahhh, the aroma of fresh coffee anytime is must and this place meets my cravings. They have expanded their horizons, they also preside in Fremont Blvd and Peralta, take a gander, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is my go to coffee shop, It never disappoints. The workers are always so nice and warm welcoming. The coffee is great all the time and made with love. They have outdoor and indoor seating which I love! It's always beautiful weather and vibes are always chill.

Yelp
I was in Fremont and took the time for a break and stop by for a latte! Devout has been my my to go list for at least 2 years! I am glad that I found street parking near by and stopped by the early afternoon, the cafe was comfortable and few people. I liked the coffee wasn't bitter and ashy, overall I see myself going back! Enso forever! Gibraltar. Renegade Concept. Mon- Sat. 8am- 2pm. Modern. "Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there." --Bo Jackson

Yelp
This cafe has been on my mind for a while and I'm so glad I had a chance to finally come by and try out one of their seasonal holiday drinks! To say the least, it was.... PERFECTION. There were two holiday flavors - Egg Nog and Gingerbread Cappuccino. Maybe because I've been on a gingey kick these days, so the gingerbread coffee was calling for me. It was the ultimate blend of a smooth creamy texture, mixed with a nice coffee roast flavor, and hints of cinnamon, ginger, and orange. There is a space both indoors and outdoors to hang out, which is nice! Also, the baristas are all very friendly :)
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
If you enjoy quality espresso this is your place! I come to Devout every time I'm in the area (and sometimes go out of my way lol) and every single drink I've tried here was crafted to perfection. You can tell the baristas really care and know their stuff! I love the mochas here (both iced and hot) and the regular lattes are fantastic. Really cute outdoor seating area as well!
google avatar

Obdulio C.

Yelp
I found this place on Yelp, and it was honesty a little far but I decided to try them out due to their reviews. Went in there around 9:30 am and found parking right in front of the store, I had to wait maybe 2 minutes before the lady in the front helped me out. Ended up going for a cappuccino and a chocolate chip cookie, which was the best cookie I've tried at a coffee shop so far. Everyone that was working here seemed pretty happy and that's always a good thing when you go to a coffee shop or any local small business.
google avatar

Anandita S.

Yelp
I tried to get in there once or twice a month! The staff is most humble, and they love what they do. Make the best coffee. I always ask before taking a picture, and they're very creative of kindness. I love their coffee is not milky, and it's very much made with love. Some people might find this super weird, but I am a coffeeholic I don't even know if it's a word, but I can feel pure love in the cup of coffee. I get from them.
google avatar

Sophie C.

Yelp
Coffee first - not much to say here. Fresh caffeine with a devout following (no pun intended). Short line already forming before 9am on a Saturday. Selection - pastries wise is a good variety. First time seeing a ube custard bun of this style so I got it. But SF prices : $6.50 hmmm and the regular croissant rang up $5.50. From La Kalidad bakery in Daly City. Maybe a slight premium for the delivery but next time I'll save a bit by going to the farmers market down the block with other selections. Ambiance - nice patio in the back to hang out solo or with friends. Lots of family with little ones coming in with bikes to refuel.
google avatar

Minah L.

Yelp
I got their seasonal latte with oat milk and even though I couldn't taste much of the seasonal flavorings, the coffee was delicious. The steamed milk layer on top was so velvety and creamy it made the drink that much more enjoyable. Espresso was great, did not taste diluted at all. Service was quick as there was not much of a line near closing. Great interior design and more seating outdoors.
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
Still the best coffee shop around. Dog friendly, and just flooded with nice, kind people. You'll walk out with a smile on your face and a really great cup of coffee. I go every day when I am in town.
google avatar

Ulyssa R.

Yelp
My favorite thing was the ice lol! For some reason I really love when the ice is small like this. The pictures on the menu were weird, I just wanted a readable menu with just words. The staff were super nice and friendly!! I had an iced oat milk latte with a bit of simple syrup and it was okay. The espresso tasted a bit fruity, which was interesting. I usually like my espresso more bold. I'm not sure how I feel about it, not bad not the best. It was okay :)
google avatar

Deanne M.

Yelp
I love the latte art here, we ordered an oatmilk latte which was absolutely delicious, the ambiance was amazingly too, everyone there is so friendly and welcoming.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and really good service! What a cute and quaint backyard area. Loved the seating and space at this shop. I got the cappuccino with oat milk which was really good. There was a bit of a wait for our drinks, but I could tell the quality of the drink was there.
google avatar

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
Decent coffee, some indoor seatings and a spacious outdoor area. Well, when I was there I asked one of the baristas one of the simplest questions like wifi password and somehow I wasn't answered.. but I guess having a proper conversation with guests wasn't a criteria for a cafe review..
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
I'm a iced coffee kind of girl and Devouts cold brew is absolutely good and refreshing. It's smooth, sweet, mellow and overall a great drink to have. The employees are super duper nice and the cute patio is a bonus for relaxing while enjoying your cup of coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best coffee in the east bay, hands down. They said it best, Devout is the perfect bridge of specialty coffee between Oakland and San Jose. I love this location in Niles. The coffee shop is very appealing: cute neighborhood, industrial vibes, contemporary feel and absolutely aesthetically pleasing. Parking is simple, there's usually street parking or a parking lot located up the street. There are tables available inside and a good size patio on the side. No frills type coffee. The menu is simple, aside from their seasonal offerings. If you're really not into coffee - tcho mocha is a safe bet. For you sOpHiStiCaTed folks, the espresso tonic is great! The also rotate their pour overs. I don't believe the pastries are made in house but their croissants are fire, and I'm not even a pastry gal. 1000% go to Devout, go to their trailer at Lake Cabot Public Market, and check out the new renegade by Devout Coffee in Fremont...that's next on my list!
google avatar

Poonam D.

Yelp
Ordered the Oat Vanilla Latte, no sweetener. Noticed a ton of folks ordering the iced Mocha Latte (will have to try next time). A perfect finish after a brunch at Skilletz Cafe. :)

Yelp
Admittedly I didn't go to the storefront. My sister picked up coffee and pastries for me, so I couldn't tell you about the customer service. I have seen this Devout Coffee in passing while strolling through on Niles, so I can at least vouch to it being a cute, simple coffee shop. I had just missed the window for their Autumn Spice lattes, which they discontinued for the season right after Thanksgiving, so I advised my sister to get me a vanilla latte. I was informed that they didn't carry soy milk, so I was limited to oat or almond milks for non-dairy creamers. They did have non-fat milk at least, so I went with that. The vanilla latte I got from Devout Coffee was one of the best ones I've had. It had a wonderful sweetness to it that reminded me of brown sugar. Now on to the pastries. I asked my sister to surprise me, and she came back with an ube custard and chocolate chip cookie. I'm not that particularly fond of ube, but I really enjoyed this! The ube flavor wasn't overpowering, and it had the smoothness and creaminess like custard. I was expecting it to have the graininess or chunkiness of ube texture. The chocolate chip cookie was a delight as well. It was soft, chewy, and loaded with giant chocolate discs, so each bite was packed with chocolatey goodness.

Yelp
This place has been in my bookmarks for a while and I finally got to try it. I ordered the hot latte with vanilla syrup and it was so yummy! It was perfectly sweet for me and the coffee was delicious. The swan latte art was so pretty too :) I would definitely come back to Devout Coffee!

Yelp
4/17/2023 - Took a detour when heading to South Bay for a shopping date. Devout Coffee got some high ratings on Yelp and being that my hubs is a caffeine seeker, we had to give this place a try. A coffee roaster in my old stomping grounds so it almost brought a warm feeling when I stepped inside. Loved the interior decor and the seatings. Minimal, but impactful. This place seems to take their coffee level extremely seriously. No flavoring syrup, no chai or matcha lattes, strictly espresso drinks with the exception of hot chocolate and some sorts of tea lattes. Kinda was a bummer since I'm not much of a coffee drinker. Husband got a double espresso and he said it was ok. I ended up getting a latte and it was ok. Nothing special. I remember the barista explaining that they only use single origin blah-blah-blah, but I didn't taste anything distinct or special. It tasted like basic latte. Loved the art though. Interesting how the double espresso was served with a side of sparkling water. I guess it's to cleanse one's palate before tasting the quality of the espresso. But I honestly thought it wasn't necessary. But everyone to their own! As soon as we walked in, we saw a display bakery cabinet with only a handful of cookies left. They were completely out of everything and it was only 1:30 in the afternoon. I believe they closed at 6pm, but to have not that many pastry options left our visit quite disappointing. Glad we gave Devout Coffee a try. And glad to know it's not for us.

Nicole R.

Yelp
Not sure what the hype about this place is, I had a bad experience especially being my first time. The pour over tasted like ass, my food was just thrown together in a carry bag, even McDonalds does a better job of packing food and for cheaper.
google avatar

Kristin P.

Yelp
Always a great latte from this spot. The staff is kind and they have a great set up to handle a busy line. Can't miss with Devout!
google avatar

Hoa N.

Yelp
One thing that I really appreciate about Devout is that they have a diagram of how much milk is added to different coffee drinks like a latte, cappuccino, cold brew, etc. I never knew the difference so I always thought I enjoyed lattes but I think I am more of a cappuccino gal now (decided after visiting Devout) since I do not like my coffee that milky but still appreciate the foam. With that being said, coffee was fantastic. My cappuccino was perfectly made.
google avatar

Kaks H.

Yelp
Got their cortado (Gibraltar). Nice, smooth and strong. Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Karthik M.

Yelp
Finally I found a place where I can get a decent cup of cappuccino rich in flavor, consistently! Love the space and roomy outdoor patio area. I'm surprised the time is not longer great service.

Yelp
Arrived here on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 pm for a caffein recharge in an interesting part of Fremont called Niles. The coffee shop is surrounded by bars and antique stores. There's parking by their town plaza or street parking. It's super hipster vibes across the town that's more on the traditional themes. They have indoor seating and a larger outside seating area with tables and benches. Their menu is when you walk up to the counter, and I ordered an iced latte. I waited around 10 minutes for my order since it was busy. My iced latte definitely needed sugar even though I asked for almond milk; I used about 4 packets of Splenda.... Good vibes with a modern aesthetic with a bit overpriced coffee.

Yelp
Friendly staff, nice outdoor seating, great coffee beans. Been coming here since 2020. Dog friendly
