Where to Picnic Poolside in New Orleans This Summer

"The most exciting new poolside hang this summer is at the Dew Drop, a meaningful revival of the historic Central City nightclub, hotel, and restaurant. The Haven Pool Club, now open, is part of that, with daily passes starting at $20. The pool has a bar, and food is by chef Marilyn Doucette, the founder of Meals from the Heart Cafe. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. The hotel recommends calling in advance to check capacity." - Beth D'Addono

New Live Music Venue Toulouse Theatre Opens in the French Quarter - Eater New Orleans

"Perhaps most excitingly, New Orleans’s historic Dew Drop Inn is poised for revival after years of attempts, with a well-liked local developer getting the go-ahead earlier this year to reopen the Dew Drop as a hotel, music venue, and bar." - Clair Lorell

This hotel is simply different. It has everything you need without the fake pleasantries of standardized chains. So don’t expect forced smiles or other nonsense. Expect a unique experience that will quickly immerse you in the vibe of the city. The people at the front desk are not only helpful but also open to real conversation. The manager is personable and genuinely committed to this place, she even offered to take a very important postcard of mine to the post office. That kind of care is rare. Now, let me tell you about the property. The style is urban, and references to the historical significance of the place are everywhere. Knowing that, in the long run, hotels require proper maintenance, I truly hope the Dew Drop Inn won’t overlook this because the hotel is genuinely beautiful and deserves to stay that way. The room I stayed in had an incredibly comfortable bed, and I always slept well. I hope to return to New Orleans soon. and one thing’s for sure: when I do, I’ll definitely stay here again.

Clean rooms and establishment. Staff was warm and accommodating, but not overbearing. I was in town for work, and even though there is live music and an active pool, I had all the quiet I needed. Will definitely be back!

We stayed for just under a week and found that staff were really friendly! The bed was also very comfortable. I hate being cold and there was a slight issue with the AC for me but they were attentive and happy to move us to a different room. I would recommend if you have no problem with music late at night as they have shows on during the evenings some nights but these had a lovely atmosphere so I would tell everyone to check it out if you go to stay!

This place is such a hidden gem in the city. Live music, great drinks for a good price, and even free food sometimes. The staff is super nice and I love that they have nights where anyone can join the band on stage. Theres even a little museum so you can learn the history. Can’t wait to go back

I was there to see the Original.Pinettes Perform. The experience felt like going to anew venue that had just opened. It seemed disorganized. I had a hard time opening the door to get in. They asked for my ticket but as a visitor to the city I didn't have access to a printer and there wasn't an option to add it to my phone wallet. It did say I could pick my ticket up at Will Call but there wasn't a system in place for that. I waited 20 minutes to order a drink at the bar and there was only 1 person ahead of me.. There is limited seating, but it was a cool spot to watch a great performance. I did read that they do a Buffet Lunch and history tour of the establishment and I would likely go back and do that on another visit to NOLA.

Staying at the Dew Drop was not only fun and convenient, but made us feel like we were getting to experience the real New Orleans that Ray Charles, B.B. King, Little Richard, Alan Toussaint and so many others got to experience, not the phony, made-up version. The rooms, the staff and the pool are all first first rate. Our friends kept talking the whole time we were there about the incredibly comfortable beds. We're already planning to stay in the Ray Charles room that overlooks the pool next time we go. The music venue and bar that guests have their own door to was one of the highlights our stay. We went to an amazing open mike night where we expected a typical "open mike" night and were instead blown away by the level of the talent and the great atmosphere. Plus we were ten minutes from the French Quarter but half the price of French Quarter hotels. If you want the real New Orleans experience , stay at the Dew Drop Inn.

Was excited about the cool history of this place and love the black aesthetics. Decent, clean and interestingly decorated room, but pretty barebones regarding amenities. Also, the door would not lock. I asked them to look at it the first day and no one did. The second day I was directed to lift the handle and push really hard but every time I tried it took about 3 minutes to get locked. Doors that lock seem pretty basic.

We went for Saturday Brunch. It was a delightful experience! The music, the food, the staff all deserve a Gold 🌟. So much history. The tour of the museum was so detailed and so much information. Everyone needs to visit this place, and experience for themselves.

Yelp
From the grand opening weekend to my most recent visit for Rechell Cook's live performance, Dew Drop Inn has provided me with memorable experiences. Corey the bartender knows what he is doing and has been consistent in the crafting of my drinks. Tarik has become the server I look for. He is polite, attentive and accommodating. The food is always satisfying and served hot. The only negatives are that the wait for food and drinks is too long and the floor plan doesn't always account for the expected attendance. The seating arrangements do not take into consideration the varying body types/sizes of the guests or the space needed once guests are seated in their chairs. That made it especially difficult for the servers Tarik and Paris, who are thin people. This historic venue does not limit itself to traditional jazz showcases. From national renowned hip hop duo Partners N Crime to tantalizing burlesque dancers, the calendar of events has something for everyone. Until next time...

Yelp
This is my fourth visit to Dew Drop Inn but my first review. Shame on me!!! This is definitely a gem of history, a one stop shop for history, food, fun, and stay the night in one of the celebrity named room. This jewel offers interactive experiences and on the spot tours of this amazing museum, hotel, club, and pool oasis. I have not experienced the pool parties but friends have raved. Their menu caters to the masses. From cocktails to mocktails. Quesadillas and shrimp. There is something for everyone. Do not miss out on the opportunity to explore the museum with authentic pieces and sound bites from the era when Dew Drop Inn was the cornerstone of Black culture and entrepreneurship. You will be captivated by the staff who embraces the history and caters to true Southern hospitality. If you are luck, you just might meet the owner whose vision was to restore this gem to its original state and best as possible. Well done, sir. I am informed and wiser from this experience and grateful to have walked the same stairs and hallways of so many greats. Stop by and tell them Nikisha sent you! *I was so immersed in my experiences I only have few pics. None of my food or drinks.

Yelp
Dealing with this hotel is an absolute nightmare, which is unfortunate because the concept is so cool and the staff are wonderful. I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND though. The nightmare started when our room for the Super bowl was canceled because they claimed we didn't pay up front. They emailed in October saying it had to be paid and after confirming with hotels.com that I did, in fact, already pay up front, I then called the hotel and the receptionist said he would "make a note." He apparently did not make the note because we were canceled and only found out a day before our trip. So, during the busiest and most expensive event of the year, we did not have a room. After some freaking out, the hotel manager did get us a room, but said they could not honor our original price of $458.08 per night since the current rate is $799. We went from paying $789.69 for two nights to $1857.88! Not sure how any of this is fair considering I snagged this hotel booking in June 2024 in order to avoid super bowl price gouging. As if that wasn't bad enough, they promised we were getting an upgraded suite that normally "sells for $2599 a night" but when we get there we don't actually have the suite, we have the "add on" to the suite that is actually smaller than our original room by 26 sq ft and in a worse location directly next to the suite that has open windows to the venue. The first night we were there, someone tried to get into our room at 2am, but luckily we had our side locked. The fun is not over yet- I talked to enough people at hotels.com until I got to someone that approved comping the price difference of the room so I was going to let everything go- including the fact that the ice machine didn't work, the conditioner pump didn't work, the safe wouldn't open, housekeeping didn't come the first day, it was hotter than he'll in the room with NO THERMOSTAT, and the room has barely any lighting- but we go to check out today and I ask for a printed bill so I had a physical copy after all the mess. This hotel is so incompetent I should have looked at the bill because apparently I paid for someone's Expedia room for NEXT WEEK! She asked me the last four on my card and I said no, and without checking the name on the card to the reservation, she just changed the number. There clearly has not been enough training to staff and the facility does not know how third party booking works. I highly recommend avoiding this motel! It's not cool enough to deal with this level of inaptitude.

Yelp
What a cute little hotel. YOU CAN CONTROL THE FAN IN YOUR ROOM! I booked with them not knowing they had a lounge below and that it can be loud from time to time. I booked because the reviews were good, looked clean. And yeah. Let's dive inside. Rolled up around 10 pm, had trouble finding the door but some sweet gal said it's the door on the furthest left as you're looking at the building. Walked in and was instantly greeted. He was polite, cool, and just honestly a ray of sunshine after a long day of meetings and travel. Mentioned I'd like a room furthest away from the lounge as I had to get up early for work the next day. He understood and put me in his great uncles room. Fun fact, the rooms are names for famous musicians that played at the dew drop. Before I forget they have ear plugs at the desk in case it's too noisy for you. But don't be despaired, the music ends at 12 on the dot. They don't play around. And I appreciated that. My room wasn't huge. But honestly I'm not in need of a big room. A rack, toilet, shower are all I need. But man, the color palette for the whole hotel is so tasteful and nice. They have two bottles of water in the room for you, in case you're tempted to pay while You're at check-in. Bed was soft and comfy. Linen was soft and comfort. Pillows were great. This is a great little hotel. Its a solid 20 minute walk to the hospital. But a nice walk, to the hospital. I will be back! Promise.

Yelp
I ended up at the Dew Drop because it was the location for the start of the 2nd line. The 2nd line was cancelled but I'm so happy I discovered this gem. It's a museum and lounge. The staff was lovely. "Ro your favorite bartender" was great. They were playing bounce music. It was just a good time. They were very welcoming and clean. I would definitely visit again if I'm ever in uptown. I didn't try the food so I can't comment but it's a vibe.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Recently reopened under new management, the building is a civil rights era icon and features a mini museum. There are great shows most nights of the week. At the bar, all the bar bites I've tried have been yummy, but these fries were the most perfectly cooked ones I've ever had. Tender and moist inside, crunchy and seasoned on the outside. I stopped eating to take a photo so I could review how delicious they are!

Yelp
Popped in on a Tuesday and it was comedy night. The place is spacious on the inside! Happy hour didn't end until 8pm! I ordered two drinks + wings and fries. The food came out and fresh! Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. I didn't particularly care for the comedy. I'm not a fan of consistent sexual content. If that's the only way a comedian or host knows how to be funny, go back to the drawing board. I do want to visit their pool one day!

Yelp
Went to the Saturday brunch and show, and had a wonderful time. Great buffet, great music and fantastic people led to a fun afternoon. I hope this evolves into a "go to" for anyone who wants to learn about New Orleans history.

Yelp
Wow!!! What a beautiful venue for live music and it's a historic hotel. The history in the building is simply amazing and totally enjoyed the live local music vibe. The bar cocktails and food are delicious - simply NOLA. I love that they put a spotlight on local talent and creatives.

Yelp
After a bizarre experience at another hotel, my husband and I ended up here on our wedding night! We got in at 3 am with no reservation, and the man at the front desk took care of us and was so nice. We ended up with a great room for a very reasonable price! The historic building was SO cool and I can tell it would be really fun during the day with the pool. I will definitely be recommending this place to out of town guests and might even stay here again for a staycation.

Yelp
I gave this stay a 4 because the kitchen wasn't open until after 7 and we arrived at 10am. But, rooms were clean, they let us check in super early and we stayed for music in the evening. Music was great - lovely large venue and dance floor. Staff is very nice. Pool area was lovely and we enjoyed lounging by it all afternoon; met many guests and chatted with many people. Price was right. Going back tonight for jam night and looking forward to it.

Yelp
Not located in a nice part of town, you have to park on the side of the street, but we could see our car from our window. Our bathroom didn't have any hand soap, and the bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash were basically empty. A loud alarm went off through the whole building for like 5 minutes around 7pm. My booking was also supposed to be 2 beds but we got one queen. Fine otherwise

Yelp
My husband and I visited during Mardi Gras 2024, and unfortunately, a piece of expensive jewelry went missing due to housekeeping. The owner expressed regret and assured us that we would be compensated, but that never happened. If you care about your belongings and your peace of mind, I wouldn't recommend staying there.

Joel P.

Yelp
Stayed at the Dew Drop this past weekend, this hotel has so much history it's beautiful! Super clean, the staff including Sean who's at the front desk was amazing! Sean went above and beyond to help us and make sure all our needs were taken care of. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Our bartender on Sunday afternoon was so sweet she definitely has a heavy pour we loved her! The only downside i could find was the shower floor was just a bit slippery, other than that this place is a 10/10 .

Valerie A.

Yelp
10/20/2019 First, let me say this the music, drinks was amazing. The waiter a young male is horrible. He never gets the orders right and the food took over and 1 1/2 for fries. Wow our Black owned business have too get thier service together. This was my second time visiting and I will not be back. Thanks but no thanks. I can spend my money elsewhere.

Yelp
We stayed here on a Sunday night and wished we could've stayed longer. Front desk staff was warm and welcoming and shared a bit of Dew Drop's history and even gave us an excellent lunch recommendation. (Thanks, Shaun!) Our room was cozy and though we could hear some noise from the lounge, it wasn't loud enough to interfere with sleep. We'd love to visit again, swim in the pool and enjoy breakfast or a show in the lounge and read more about the Drop's fascinating history in the museum next door.

Yelp
I arrived in time for lunch and to make plans for a club Christmas party. I was greeted by Jordan and escorted through the property by Taniesha. Wow! I was blown away by the renovations. The hotel side of house is just fabulous and the attention to detail on point. Unfortunately the restaurant is not operating but small bites can be ordered from the pool side bar. That afternoon a group of mature ladies were having a grand afternoon birthday party in the pool. The pool looked so inviting, a day pass is $20 with in and out privileges. I did order to go the wings and fries. Fries were out the grease and Awesome! I enjoyed talking and planning with Taniesha. She emailed all the necessary information to plan this party, drink and catering menus. I look forward to future visits to the Dew Drop Inn.

Yelp
The Dew Drop Inn is definitely a recommendation for all if you want something off the beaten path. The hospitality is amazing and the ambiance is relaxing. The only thing I had a problem with was the water pressure as well as the restaurant not being fully open during the evening.

Danielle M.

Yelp
Went to NOLA for my 30th birthday with a group of girl friends and we stayed here and had the best time! Everyone was super accommodating and showed so much love to all of us the entire stay. Thank you so much to Sean and the entire staff for making our trip one of the best experiences. We will be back!

Yelp
The Dew Drop was a hotel and nightclub that operated between 1939 and 1970 noted as being a prime influence in the development of rhythm and blues. The building and sign are still there but the hotel and nightclub are no more. So this place now just has the status as being a monument to New Orleans music and as a major contribution to the world's music. Stop off take a look and maybe a photo while the place still stands as unfortunately in NOLA any given day could be the last for any number of significant places like this.
