The 33 Best Restaurants In Melbourne 2023

"This brutalist restaurant feels a bit like an art gallery. Towering concrete interior walls host video installations by Aussie artists such as Reko Rennie, while waiters move gracefully between tables, topping up a Barolo here, delivering a Campari and soda there. Pretty plates of upscale Italian dishes will impress—maybe crab capellini, or the signature foil-wrapped veal schnitzel sandwich, crusts off—but just know that a meal here can get pricey, fast. If you’re looking for a celebration spot though, Di Stasio Citta always delivers." - ellen fraser

Lets start with the positive. Aesthetically the place itself is "different" to your usual Italian restaurant. Polished concrete walls with very random videos projected onto different walls. However, the whole experience was disappointing. The quality and flavour of the food matched the service we receive from the front of house team, lacking and screamed, couldn't care less and overworked. Every dish that we ordered lacked flavour. Wait staff that took our order, brought the dishes, and the bill, couldn't be bothered. Overall, I have no idea how this place is still operating in Melbourne where there are many, many more italian restaurants that far outperform this place.

Really cool place. Visual sensory engaged with projectors playing different video clips. High ceiling. Concrete everywhere. Really has a museum vibe. We ordered scallops and ricotta dumplings for entrees, beef with polenta and crab pasta for the main. The entrees are nice. Then it comes the main. First of all, the pasta was really plain, only the crab tasted good however tiny tiny amount. Secondly, the beef my friend ordered was served and replaced by chicken without informing us or even offering alternatives before head because it’s suddenly sold out(…?) Shocked that this unprofessional behaviour can happen in a 2 hats restaurant. Lastly, dessert. Tiny. The waiter gave us attitude when we didn’t leave a tip at the end. How? Do you expect something back when you didn’t deliver? Overall food doesn’t achieve 2 hats restaurant especially with overcharged prices. More importantly, service was clearly not living up to the standards and expectations a 2 hat restaurant would have. FYI, if you are looking for a truly great Italian restaurant, go to Tipo 00.

Lovely stylish Italian restaurant located opposite Parliament. Portion was great - we had the 2 course menu and already full. Pasta is freshly made stirred into right amount of sauce. Saltimbocca was paired with white wine buttery sauce that melt in your mouth.

Came for a late dinner service. Pleasantly greeted with a beautiful ambience, overall a nice venue. Tried arancini with the fococcia and ricotta for our entrees both were a light way to enter into the meal but very tasty. I tried the Eye Fillet which was perfectly cooked paired with Pâté on fococcia. Very nice flavour profile. I’ve forgotten who our servers name was but it was his 2nd day from memory and he made the experience very pleasant with his knowledge of the menus and overall service.

I’m sure this place would suit some people but for me it was sterile and had a lack of circulating air. I prefer a cozy Italian restaurant where there is a fast paced vibe. The food was nice but not amazing. The prawn linguine had tiny pieces of prawns - for the price, I don’t understand why a chef would do that. Overall, it was good but not great.

The food and wine were excellent. The service was very pleasant but quite slow - it seemed like they didn't have enough staff on the floor. The projected movie art is a bad idea. It did my head in! A 2 - 3 minute set of video shots repeating over and over, again and again, was very annoying. When you're seated in a fixed position you have no way of avoiding such distractions happening on the wall in front of you. It somewhat spoiled my lunch experience.

Fantastic food and service! Had the most wonderful and fun time! Staff are super attentive and all the small details are noted and taken care of. Their pasta specials are spectacular, particular stars on the show were all the seafood and fish related dishes. Food is super flavourful and rich. Great selection of wine , cool and classic cocktails

Yelp
Pronto! Home ordering an Italian feast when in locked down Melbourne couldn't be smoother than with Di Stasio Citta. The comprehensive menu is available online and the staff are only to happy to answer any questions over the phone. I ordered the baked crumbed scallops for entree. Juicy, deliciousness encased in a perfect crumb. The prawn and parsley pasta with sunshine for main, surely brightened my day. Plus a side of fries and house salad, made this delicious dinner complete. Oh the house bread and butter is a must too. What is there not to love about restaurant bread and butter? The service was impeccable and my order arrived right on time.

Yelp
Recently opened Italian restaurant located in a residential building across from Treasury Gardens. The food was top shelf. My veal melted in my mouth, the risotto quite good but the desert was probable the best.
