"Diamond Bakery is a Jewish bakery in the Fairfax District that has been churning out glossy challah since the 1940s. The white and blue shop is known for its rye bread, chewy pretzels that make the ones from  AMC look like cardboard, and lots of little, sprinkle-covered cookies that are asking to be dunked into hot coffee (they have that, too.) Make sure to grab one of their spinach boreks on the way out." - Sylvio Martins

I bought 4 Paçzki with different fillings. We clearly could tell that they were from the day before. Unfortunately they were dry and hard. Because of the good taste I was even more disappointed.

Placed a delivery order. New owner was so accommodating and kind. Assorted Hamentashen, 7 Layer Cake and challah. All fresh and absolutely delicious. Diamond Bakery is indeed a precious gem! Can’t wait to return!

Google
Bought a 1/2 loaf 7 layer cake yesterday so dry it was inedible:( new owners changed the darn bakery! Don’t waste your money there it’s awful

Google
What in the world happened?! I bought 2 challah, 6 sufganyot, and a brownie and all of it was dry / not flavorful. There was ZERO jelly in the first strawberry donut, and virtually none in the others. I took my Israeli fiance here so we could incorporate some of her favorites when we celebrate Hanukkah. We wanted to make a good impression with my parents, but when we presented the baked goods we were so embarrassed... I can't believe these were such poor quality. Who knew such a good place could get so bad. Looks like I'm gonna have to find a new Jewish bakery now 😞

It was the final day of the Festival of Lights and we were in need of some sweet treats. We stopped in to pick up some hammentaschen and rugelach. We eneded up leaving with much more. The treats were fresh and delicious. Our guests loved them. The service at the bakery was wonderful and the bakery is kept nice and tidy. It's now our 'go to' place for holiday treats.

Google
Super nice, and accommodating new owner. Visiting from out of town, but grew up here and going to this bakery. I love Diamond Bakery hard sprinkle little cookies and the other sprinkle varieties. Got a small box. They will all be eaten before I fly home. Give them a try. Yum.

Went the other day and tried a variety of pastries and bread. Everything was incredible. I highly recommend and I will be going back very soon!

I stopped today for a “Two good to go” order and talked with their staff. I had one of their cherries strudels, and it was delicious. I am totally impressed with Diamond bakery, and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I stopped by here with a friend today after we had lunch at Pickles and Rye Deli next door. I grew up in West Bloomfield, later moving to the Troy area and now I'm back in Farmington Hills, so I have been to Diamond Bakery but it's been a while. First off, if you dined at the deli recently (or maybe that day?), show your receipt you'll get 10% off. Secondly, if you use a credit card there is a 3% fee, which always annoys me, so I paid with cash. My friend had been talking up their chocolate chip hamantaschen, so I got one of those and a raspberry one, plus a black and white cookie. It's been many years since I've had hamantaschen, but theirs was pretty good. However, I was a little disappointed in the black and white cookie... I've had those from New York before and also from Trader Joe's and I thought the cookie here was just okay. That being said, everything else in their display case also looked really good, especially the homemade bagels and bagel sticks, so I will be back at some point to try more of the selection. Pricing was pretty fair as well, the hamantaschen was $1.90 each and the cookie was $3.50.

Yelp
One of our very favorite bakeries! Their 7 layer cake is Mitch's favorite. And the cinnamon chocolate chip horn pastries delish. Convenient location with nearby parking.

Yelp
This bakery is no good ever since management changed. The recipes are different and the customer service is horrendous. I literally just overheard a conversation (on the telephone) of an employee telling a customer she was rude when the customer was upset about the fact that the employee told her "although you special ordered a bread, we either sold it or gave it to the owners because they were in earlier and they wanted it for their boys." So many bakeries with so many better choices and good business practices.

Jean W.

Yelp
Diamond bakery had the most flavorful, delicious baked goods. We purchased cookies there, seven layer cake, and some chocolate things that reminded me of a mini bumpy cake that was more delicious than any bumpy cake I've ever tasted.

Patrick C.

Yelp
Glad I can review. I am so glad this bakery is not close to my home, I would get their special deserts with too much frequency!!!!!. They typically have two deserts that are to die for. One is a covered wagon, and the second is a ding dong. Either are great but I prefer the covered wagon. If you have ever had Sanders bumpy cake, the covered wagon desert is similar where it starts off with about the most moist fluffy, fudge, devils food cake available. Then a lop of about the best buttercream sits on top followed by the ooziest fudge topping. I have to say after the commercialization of Sanders (it was only in name, which are now no longer available) this desert tops the bumpy cake hands down. And that is saying a lot!!!!! The ding dong has the same ingredients but less buttercream, it's just like a Hostess ding dong but a tad larger and way better. They also make a roll up cake with the same ingredients. You want to be remembered at a party or gathering? Bring one of these cakes to the event!!!! Your friends will talk about it forever!!!!

Yelp
I grew up coming here. This place is my childhood. We lived off their bread and basically ate nothing else. We loved their onion rolls, always a favorite to pair with hamburgers. They have one of the best seven layer cakes, if you have never tried one, it is a must! You will thank me later! But I came over here to get a box of their cookies for a party for my child. My kids love their little sprinkle cookies. That was their childhood, eating those little yummy bites of happiness. I got the variety of nonpareils, jimmies, and thumb print chocolate cookies. So good. This is not a fancy bakery. It is very simple and sells very specific products. Come here is you are interested in challah, bobka, hamantaschen, seven layer cake, or sprinkle cookies. They do not have late hours, so check the times before coming.

Sherril C.

Yelp
This used to be my family's favorite Jewish bakery. But ever since it was sold it's completely gone down hill. Ordered a special Challah for the holidays. When I went to pick it up and it was pure chaos in the bakery, and the challah was nothing like the old ones we used to get even the seven layer cake was terrible.

Tom R.

Yelp
Ever since the new ownership took over, Diamond Bakery has been fantastic. Always enjoy coming in for 7 Layer Cake and tea cookies. Highly recommend and a must visit if you are in town

Jeremy J.

Yelp
Stale products and not just one or two I purchased a variety, 7 layer cake world famous for what ? Being dried out and sitting in the counter uncovered.

Jeff O.

Yelp
Saturday at 9 : 30 am and the showcases are empty. No New Yorkers and very limited choice of breads and cookies. 7 layer cake was fresh and excellent ,but will think twice before making the 20 minute drive next time.

robin h.

Yelp
This bakery used to be wonderful but since it changed ownership, the baked goods are not as good as they used to be. Very disappointing. Part of what they should have purchased should have been the recipes.

Alisa C.

Yelp
I've loved this bakery for many years. It's been a staple in the community. They are under new ownership and after today's encounter, I won't be back. The 7 layer cake slices are a third of the size and cost the same. The owner was rude when I asked about it.

Yelp
This weekend my son and I were visiting in the area. To satisfy our sweet tooth we stopped at the Diamond Bakery. Everything in the display cases looked delicious. We ordered a seven-layer cake, sprinkle cookies and some doughnuts. The staff was courteous and helpful. When we got back to our hotel room and opened the boxes, we could not resist tasting all of the baked goods. My son said those were best doughnuts he ever had. I wish the 7-layer cake had more layers as it was that good. The sprinkle cookies brought back memories of eating those cookies with my grandma. We were told that the bakery will soon be shipping their baked goods anywhere in the U.S. We will be ordering when that happens.

ArTal K.

Yelp
This is your grandma's vintage bakery. They carry what you might expect, challah and other breads, mix & match small sugar cookies, and a selection of pastries. Nothing flashy or reminiscent of a food network confection, which is fine, I wasn't looking for that. My low rating reflects the service. I stopped in shortly after opening for a few dozen cookies for an open house. There were two people working and I wasn't acknowledged by either. The guy was walking around on the phone, and the lady only seemed to care about some elderly folks who were going in and out. After they left and I engaged her, she was still quite annoyed with taking my order, when I asked what size boxes they offered, she groaned and motioned to some across the counter. I just felt like no one cared for my business and maybe overall didn't enjoy working there. Maybe they rely on the business of their elderly regulars, but just not worth it to me.

Phat M.

Yelp
If you just want sugar, this is that in many forms. Everything had the same boring flavor pallet. It taste like sugar, flour and skipped the butter or any depth. Decent textures and looks good so I will give them that.

Robert B.

Yelp
It is incredible to see how a five star bakery goes to a one-Star bakery in less than a year Since the bakery was sold much of the baking is done offsite so that orders come from a different location if they come at all I just ordered a coffee cake with fruit on Tuesday for a Sunday morning pick up and I got a call at home that even though they put in the order the cake never arrived... and remember I paid for this order in advance. The owner will not speak to you and there is less and less product availability whether it's rolls cakes or even Challahs As a customer for over 30 years I am now forced to find an alternate bakery that has quality and consistency

Linda R.

Yelp
Love the new products. Everything was so good. Appreciate the mix of old and new. Still a DIAMOND!!!

Corey W.

Yelp
The best Jewish bakery there is. Plain and simple. The ONLY place I've ever seen make a babka this way, and it's just incredible! Chunks of chocolate and the breads type of cake dough is what makes it. It's so good, and not found anywhere else. The sour cream chocolate chip cake is also just delicious. My other favorites here are the chocolate chip sugar horns, and the chocolate coffee cake. To be honest, I've never had anything bad here. They accept cash only, so beware. This is a classic old school Jewish bakery, done right. Plain and simple! This is the real deal!

Chad C.

Yelp
My buddy Seth on Sunday a 7 layer cake for a mutual friend's birthday party. OMG was it delicious. We were at a restaurant with fifteen people. Everyone loved the cake. We gave a piece to our server he came back and asked where we got it from and talked about how good it was. I am going to be visiting this place soon.

Jerry R.

Yelp
As I have been here before I know it is going to be hit and miss and today was a miss. I was there at noon and all they had was seven layer, no eclairs, no covered wagons, no marble cake, no napoleon's but have not had those in many years. I have to guess we are expected to buy the things that they did have because nobody else wants them either. There was another customer asking the same questions. I only purchased cherry turnovers that were not even as good as I can get at the local supermarket, sad. Not sure why it posts me as Palm Coast, Fl but this is not the case.

Bruce H.

Yelp
Everything in this place has changed since it changed hands. Every time we get a chocolate chip loaf it's stale. No date on the package. Nothing else is good. The seven layer cake is the only thing that's half decent. There are much better bakeries around.

Paul B.

Yelp
I want to like this bakery, and their products are good, but I just had a miserable experience with their "customer service" and I wonder whether I will ever go back. When I arrived, there was one other customer in the store and three people behind the counter. As soon as the other customer finished, the person serving him went into the back room and the other two ignored me for five minutes. Finally, one of them yelled into the back that there was a customer, and it sounded like they started arguing about who would have to serve me. I left. Maybe they just don't like me.

Keith R.

Yelp
One problem I have with this place is that they don't have a menu or even labels or signs that show you what the items are. They have all of these great looking baked goods behind the glass but there's no way to tell what they are without asking which got tiresome after a while. I ended up getting a few chocolate chip cookies, a black and white and an oatmeal raisin cookie. Someone else mentioned it in their review how the cookies have this floury after taste to them that I didn't really enjoy. The chocolate chip cookie was dry, the oatmeal cookie was a bit more moist but still average at best, and the black and white was the best but still had that floury taste going on. I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be coming back here.

Linda S.

Yelp
Just picked up a 7 layer cake today. It was delicious. I highly recommend. Outstanding customer service. I will be a customer for life.

Feddwon S.

Yelp
Just came to this spot today. I'm from San Diego and I've been to a lot of bakeries in my life. This one by far is the best. The different options will make you go crazy. The service was super great. All the ladies there were very nice and they had great recommendations. Super affordable. If you are in Michigan you should go....or you're missing out

Joanne K.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a long, long time but it's not what I remember. Cookies and hamentashens taste like the same dough. Hamentashens are way too doughy, no filling. Didn't have the 7 layer cake or breads. Maybe they are better.

Andrea D.

Yelp
I love this place. I love it winter, spring, summer and fall...but especially in summer - when they have the old English D, Comerica Park and baseball shaped cookies. At Superbowl time, they make cookies that represent each team's helmets. Football cookies, football brownies. They also make fun smiley faced cookies...in the summer they have sunglasses. Their royal icing is awesome. They will make special order breads, mini and regular, in all kinds of shapes and sizes - spiders, alligators, jack o'lanterns. You name it, they'll probably make it. I've never purchased their bread, but am pretty sure I could fall in love with their Challah. Holl-a!

Dylan M.

Yelp
Diamond Bake Shop makes the BEST 7-layer cakes in the world!! I am SO grateful for them, as I wanted to order a 7-layer for my boyfriend to celebrate a special occasion, and the wonderful staff at Diamond worked with me to overnight mail a frozen 7-layer cake to me. The process was extremely simple and fast AND affordable! The cake came right on time, in perfect condition, and it was the best surprise and tasted so SO delicious. I am so grateful for the fantastic team at Diamond for working with me and getting me the cake ASAP - it is the best thing I've eaten in months! THANK YOU!

Julie W.

Yelp
This was my first visit to that bakery. Customer service was good for a busy Saturday. I was looking for cookies or brownies to share with family. I went with the brownies and they were delicious, nothing fancy but moist, flavorful and not too rich/sweet.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Love this place- every time I visit WB I get a Smiley Face Cookie now! :)

Monica G.

Yelp
Having grown up with Diamond Bakery and now living out of state, very excited to go back and get baked goods that take me back. Was very disappointed to go with my family today and older woman behind counter was less than welcoming, more so seemed we were bothering her as paying customers. Younger girl was simply accommodating. Baked goods worth the trip in, just don't expect any customer appreciation.

Richard G.

Yelp
This is the best bakery, well, ever. I come from Florida to get Flakey Rolls, Dinner Rolls Sprinkle Cookies and Seven Layer Cake, which I take back to Florida completely frozen. We have nothing like this in South Florida.

Richard K.

Yelp
Needed to purchase desserts for a potluck, ordered cookies and brownies. Brownies were fabulous, chewy with a thin frosting. Cookies where also very good. Big hit with all.

Courtney W.

Yelp
I have been going here since I was just an egg in my mother's ovaries. Nothing makes you feel more Jewish than being inside and seeing signs that advertise the need for more mahjong players or for a competition. The 7 layer cake is where my heart lives and it comes in all the sizes, perfect for any occasion.

Molly G.

Yelp
Love this bakery! So many things r good here! The cinnamon bread and cinnamon raisin bread are exceptionally wonderful! Crazy for the cookies too! Plus I can only have dairy free and there's tons of choices for me!!

L K.

Yelp
Changed rating from 5 to 3 star. Changed ownership of bakery n quality is not same as it once was. Unfortunately my opinion changed after purchasing a nut pastry & cherry danish on sunday. I bit into the pastry into a giant hair. Ick.

Karen F.

Yelp
I have been going to this bakery for decades. It used to be one of my favorites, their baked goods were fresh, delicious, the customer service was great, and the people that work there were the nicest. Not any more. Since it's been under new ownership, I have gone back a few times, trying to give them a chance, but each time I've been disappointed, mostly by the customer service, the attitude of the employees, and the obviousness that they are claiming day old stuff is fresh. No, it's obvious when you have dried out frosting, it's not fresh. I was hoping it would get better, but no , not at all. Last time I was there, they didn't even care that a customer didn't have a mask. I should've known from the first day of the new ownership that they had let go? or that they fired? everyone who worked there, put up a sign that said "Kosher like Bakery " , it wouldn't be the same. So disappointed. Out of principle, I feel I shouldn't even buy the few things that are still good. :-(

Jenny B.

Yelp
I love this bakery everyone is so friendly . Love there seven layer cake one of the best in town . Plus everything else is good too . Go try it out !!

M K.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bakery. One of my favs. From brownies to cookies to chocolate chip horns.....i love it all! Inexpensive and the best u will find.

Christina G.

Yelp
This review would be 3.5 stars. But i rounded up. 'Cause I'm nice. So my mother sent me here to pick up the bread for her famous thanksgiving stuffing- an onion dotted challah called "Onion Cobblestone". While my moms stuffing is fantastic, I believe most of that is due to this wonderfully moist, flavorful, oniony loaf. We ordered 4 loaves and it came to 13.60- $3.40 / loaf. I don't think this bread is on their regular rotation, so we special ordered it a few days ago and I picked it up today. I walked in and looked around for a minute and was greeted by the owner (I think- she seemed it after talking with her a few minutes). Along the walls were large cases filled with pastries, cookies, cakes and brownies. I'm not quite sure how to describe how I find the typical bakery cookie to be- definitely made with shortening and not butter (yech) kind of floury, sugary fat that has been baked. A let down, in any case. And this style of cookie was what filled a majority of the cases. I asked her what they are known for and she said their seven layer cake hands down. Along with the bread I also got a slice of the cake, a black and white cookie, and a mini bumpy cake kinda thingy. The cake was very, very good. Seven layers of spongy, yellow gateau sandwiching a lovely chocolate mousse-esque filling enrobed on three sides by a thick, fudgey frosting. I say "esque" because I know me some chocolate mousse, and it was more like a very light frosting rather than a mousse. The cookie was just meh- not very flavorful and very much akin to the typical bakery cookie I described above. The mini bumpy cake thingy was WHOA. Super thick fudgey frosting covering a rectangle of moist chocolate cake which was generously slathered with buttercream. I am SOOOO picky when it comes to buttercream frostings, and I have to say this one was kind of a let down. Definitely a shortening base and way too little vanilla. The fudge on top made the whole little thing worth while as it kept the cake underneath super moist and helped flavor the other components that were lacking. We've been coming here for the cobblestone bread for years and will for years to come. I may even be back before next thanksgiving to get another piece of the 7 layer cake!

Rosemary M.

Yelp
Great selection of baked goods! Breads are delicious . Staff friendly. Love their 7 layer cake!

Lesley S.

Yelp
I live in California and my family has been taking seven layer cakes home for over 35 years! Oh and the cookies are delicious! They have been making them like this for years upon years! If you don't care for them it's just not your kind of great Jewish bakery cookie.

M D.

Yelp
Honestly, The best cookies and treats, and best seven layer cake!!! Their pastries are so good and clean tasting!

Deb W.

Yelp
My 89 year old mother went in today and bought bread and cookies--when she got home she noticed they forgot to put her bread in the bag. i called the store and they were rue to me and when I came in to pick up the 2 loaves of bread the manager did not apologize nor did she treat me respecfully. I complained about her attitude and she told me I could take my business elsewhere. I asked her for the name of the owner and she wouldn't tell me. REally? I called the BBB and filed a complaint--one of many according to them And Township disclosed owner.'s name. Wow we have been patronizing this bakery for decades.... The manager is a rude nasty woman

Rebecca B.

Yelp
After reading some reviews, I really wanted to love this place. I drove 25 minutes to check it out. I needed a couple of desserts for a family party and didn't want to settle for grocery store items. SO, I went for the seven layer cake. The gal working the counter was great, she offered me a sample. I thought it was ok.. But there must be something wrong with me because I've read such rave reviews.. I'll get the cake anyhow. I also bought a banana nut cake. My family didn't care for either one. I must admit this is probably the first time we didn't make a dent in the desserts.. I would go back for pastries and breads available, but leave the cakes up to someone else..

Gina W.

Yelp
What can I say but there is absolutely nothing you wouldn't love!! Sweet Heaven!!! Try the 7 layer mini individual and you will become hooked for life ! Staff is friendly and place is clean!!

Drew M.

Yelp
my family and i have been coming to diamond bakery for years and have always been in love with it! my personal favorite goodies to get from here are the seven layer cake, the smiley face cookies, the assorted boxes of cookies, and more (guess i couldn't pick a favorite :p) everything is reasonably priced, and i've always had a good experience with the staff when i've visited. my family and i will always come here, if you haven't tried it yet, please get a box of cookies and try it out!

Brad F.

Yelp
The seven layer cake from this store is fantastic!!!! I had to buy a couple and bring them back to Chicago to let some of my friends and family try the goodies that came from here. I even brought some to work to let some of my employees try it. They all loved it.

Jeff W.

Yelp
They have the most delicious items in this authentic bakery. I particularly like the "Ding Dongs" basically homemade "Big Wheels/Yodels" Don't miss out!
