The Best Restaurants In Humboldt Park

"Diana’s, an affordable diner with awesome Puerto Rican sandwiches, is another great place to order a jibarito, or an excellent cubano with crisp bread and juicy pulled pork. And if you want more fried snacks other than tostones, they also have adobo fries, pastelillos, and relleno de papa. This place closes in the early evening, so it’s best to come in for breakfast or lunch. Or breakfast and lunch." - josh barnett, john ringor

Diana’s Food And Restaurant - Review - Humboldt Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Diana’s is an affordable diner with awesome Puerto Rican sandwiches. They offer a half-dozen ways to eat plantains, including alcapurrias, maduras, tostones, and mofongo. This place closes in the early evening, so it’s best to come in for breakfast or lunch. Or breakfast and lunch so you can work your way through all those different plantain dishes." - Josh Barnett

Google
Great customer service! I had a couple of questions about the small but incredible menu. He answered my question about the most ordered dishes. I went with the Havana bowl, and I loved it. Packed full of pork and Cuban rice and beans. It was really big, so I got 2 belly busting meals from it. I think I got an incredibly tasty dinner(s) for a really good deal. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Christopher Valega

Google
The knuckle sandwich was so juicy, the tostones were crispy and perfectly salted, and they play the best 90s hiphop. The people behind the counter were very nice.

Cesar Garcia

Google
Came in for a sandwich but I saw they had BYO bowls so I went with that. Super tasty and they give you good portions too. Will definitely be back for another. Person who took my order was super friendly and I received my order quick.

Google
My first time here! It was so good! I didn’t feel like eating subway so I looked up food in the area and I’m glad I found this place. At first I thought the bowl to go would be a small portion but the moment he handed me that bag it had a lot of weight to it. I opened it up and it was filled to the top! Definitely worth the money! Everything is delicious the peppers and onions cooked Perfect the maduros are so amazing. The pernil also very very good! I recommend this place definitely and I will be visiting again. Can’t wait to tell my family and friends about it

Google
I had the Knuckle Sandwich with Adobe Fries. Both were really tasty and good-sized portions as well. Very friendly service. Will definitely be recommending Diana's to my coworkers when we move into our new building.

Google
I love Diana's! Amazing food every time. Portions are unbelievable (I always have a second meal with my leftovers). Service and atmosphere are great as well. One of my favorite food spots in Chicago for sure :)

Google
The food is always spectacular here. Love the new remodeled look. Best steak and lechon/pork Jibaritos in Midwest!

Maria Cisneros

Google
Every time we come here it is even better than the last, the food is always fresh and delicious and everything from the sandwiches to the hebaros and the stews…..don’t forget the frituras neither they are all amazing, my fave are the relleno de papa(stuffed potato) and the steak pastelillo. Never a disappointment and always worth the wait or travel for this awesome food that they serve here and also the awesome and curtious staff who work hard everyday here to let us enjoy the food are also the best

Yelp
Walked into the place on a whim for lunch and I'm so glad I did. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was amazing! I got a bowl and it was really great, but I think I'm trying a sandwich next! I enjoyed my food so much, I had to order more. I got the empanadas to go and when I made it home, I ate them so fast I didn't even remember to take a photo. But soooo good!! Fresh! Hot! Cooked with love for sure! Definitely a much try. It seemed like a lot of people take their food to go, but I really enjoyed eating there. The music was good, the seats were comfy, and I even got to people watch from the window lol. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I've lived here for 18 months and always wanted to try Diana's. I wish I had gone sooner. I had the Cuban bowl, and it was reallllly good. The pork was perfect and plentiful, and the rice and black beans were so packed with flavor. True Cuban flavor. The pork was really tender and juicy. And it was huge. The gentleman serving me was really nice when I asked him the most popular dishes. I am having Nana's Flan cheesecake for dessert right now, and it's perfectly sweet. The place itself was really clean. I got mine to go. I'll be there at least a couple of times a month from now on.

Yelp
Soooo clean. Soooo friendly. Soooo delicious. I would move to Humboldt Park to eat here more often. This place is so good. And since you can build a bowl however you want it there are enough combinations to eat here everyday and not get bored.

Elise K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. So affordable for such large portions, and the food is incredible. Fresh and flavored and sooooo so so good.

Yelp
Grew up next door when this place was a convenient store, food was fresh and delicious then, now it's even better!!
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
I got takeout from Diana's for the first time today and made my own bowl. Opted for a salad/Puerto Rican rice situation with adobo chicken and all the toppings (didn't get maduros this time around) and choose mojo for my sauce. The portion was generous and the adobo chicken was super tender and flavorful. 10/10 for price as well. I'm definitely going to be back to try some of the other menu items!!

Yelp
Quick and friendly service and delicious food! We had the relleno de papa, pastillos, and hebaro - the plantain on the hebaro was perfectly cooked and the pastillo and relleno de papa were so flavorful. Definitely use the sauces that come with the dishes, the fat sauce was my fave!

Yelp
This place was a five stars the first time i had it. but i've been disappointed the past couple of times ordering from here. most recently, when i got my food it was cold, like it was just sitting there. the chicken was unappetizing and the rice and beans were soggy. we were going to take it back but they closed early. the time before that, we had found hairS in not one, but two of our meals. i had never had so much hair in my food. unfortunately will not be coming back. it's not worth gambling getting hair or cold food.

Yelp
Had such a good meal at Diana's yesterday that I felt compelled to give it a five star rating right away! We popped in for a late lunch @2:30 and the place was empty. I was tempted to turn around... usually empty isn't a good sign... but I'm SO glad I stayed, since the food was so killer. We split the steak hebaro (jibarito) chicken pastelillo (empanada) and the relleno de papa. They kindly split our sandwich on to two plates without us asking, which makes it so much easier to dig in, THANK YOU! The hebaro steak was sooo tender and paired perfectly with the toothsome plantain "bread" and flavorful veggies. I loved adding the "Fat Sauce" for a lil creamy kick too. The pastellilo and relleno de papa were beautifully fried and soooo yum. I like that the relleno de papa's center (beef picadillo) is seasoned with peppers, onions and olives MMMMM! This isn't a spot you go for ambiance- the booths are comfy enough, but it's most definitely a food-oriented place. It seemed like it was mostly empty because a lot of people do takeout- not sure if dining in is the default, really! Still dreaming about my lunch tho. Must go back for juicy meats, sauces & fried things soon.

Yelp
Diana's is one of my favorite local restaurants and has become my go-to lunch location. They put so much heart into the food that they cook that every meal comes out to perfection! I highly recommend their Cubano sandwich, hebaro, and adobo fries!

Andrew G.

Yelp
Food is amazing I love coming on a Saturday afternoon and grabbing some sandwiches to-go. The service is amazing, they really care about the food they put out.

Brian W.

Yelp
I live nearby so I've tried this place several times hoping my bad experiences were a fluke, but at this point I think it's safe to say this is just a bad restaurant and should be avoided. I've dined in a few times and gotten takeout twice. Both times I got takeout, something was missing from my sandwich - the Cuban sandwich had no pickles (how can you forget to put pickles on a Cubano?!) and the pernil sandwich had no sauce. How is the kitchen staff making such basic mistakes? Also, the maduros (sweet plantains) I ordered were so mushy and greasy they were practically liquid. And the bread on the Cubano was burnt from being in the press too long. When I've dined in, my orders weren't missing ingredients but the results were still not impressive. The Puerto Rican rice in the rice bowls is hard and dry - clearly reheated, not fresh. (In fact, the food is ready so quickly here that I don't think anything is made to order.) The chicken stew is nothing like a stew, just a rice bowl with a very thin and bland sauce. I like the idea of having fast-casual Puerto Rican food in the neighborhood, but there is obviously no quality control in the kitchen. There's never anyone in here, so it's probably just Grubhub delivery orders keeping the place in business. They're phoning it in.

Kamal K.

Yelp
This place put effort into their look and decor. It looks nice and spread out, too many restaurants are cramped. Besides the clean and organized look, the art is good and music was great. I ordered the Chiggen and Pastelillos, and both were great.

Pup S.

Yelp
Stopped in here for lunch for a party of 3 after visiting the nearby conservatory. By far some of the most delicious Puerto Rican food I've had since moving away from south Florida. Plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked, tostones crispy and tender, and pernil was delicious. Do not hesitate to visit, Diana's is worth a stop
google avatar

Aleks T.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! My husband and I were thrilled to find a Puerto Rican spot since it's a little taste of his home. It looks like any corner cafe on the island, very casual and cozy. The food was so delicious, the portions were big but I was fine with it because I took it home and ate the rest for dinner. The service was great and the food came out very quick. We will be coming back here a bunch for sure.

Eric S.

Yelp
Place doesn't look or feel like a restaurant. I ordered a little bit of everything--the food was low-quality and tasteless. It's bad news when the white rice has the most flavor in a dish. Overpriced and just a depressing spot to visit overall.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Edible but not repeatable. I'm glad they call it a " hebaro " because I didn't think a jibarito could be that bad. Well what can be said about a Puerto Rican place that has no coffee? Kinda feels like you are eating in a jiffy lube waiting room while the owner frantically paces back and forth yelling at staff. P.S. the " boss" sauce is not good. I took a few bites and left. $23 wasted, ugh.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in the area! Their chiggen sandwich is so flavorful and juicy, and their fries are out of this world. I've never had a single thing I didn't love from Diana's.
google avatar

L A.

Yelp
The takeaway containers and utensils are all biodegradable. Such a great focus for the owner to go the extra step (and assumed: cost) to serve food without any extra styrene or impact to our landfills. I got the "hum-bowl-dts" (somehow, that works for me) and have at least three servings for food. Perfectly cooked "chiggen", super juicy. Partner got the Pernil and raved about it. The rice pudding was delicious! Get the Boss Sauce!! I'd buy that in a bottle. Funny thing is: I ate once at Chipotle and seriously questioned anyone who thought that food had any flavor. My mind drew a comparison between that food and this...and there is no comparison at all! So much flavor, fresh veggies cooked perfectly and great sauces. Not to mention family-owned business for 25 years. Biggest problem: Now I have to go to Spinning J AND Diana's :)

Yelp
Holy ! Just as I thought , this place would not disappoint. Diana's is located in the heart of Humboldt park . Family owned ,so you know they have THE recipe ! Knuckle has a juicy humongous piece of steak with delicious melted cheese accompanied with Gardenia which is optional packs a savory first bite ! Omg the way the bread wraps around the already delicious steak is Magical. Going to Diana's for seconds and thirds !
google avatar

Anthony Z.

Yelp
I've been going to Diana's for over a year now and they have grown to be one of my favorite food spots in Humboldt Park. All of their food is fresh, delicious every time, and priced reasonably, especially considering the portions that are given. I've tried everything on the menu and none of it disappointed me. I highly recommend checking Diana's out!
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
A friend found this place while researching best sandwiches for our Chicago trip and it did not disappoint. It was a short walk from our Airbnb in Humboldt Park and empty when we got there at 11:45 on a Friday. We all had the knuckle sandwich and I enjoyed the tender beef covered in creamy havarti on crispy bread. It was reasonably priced and we were all very pleased.

James T.

Yelp
Best Puerto Rican restaurant to eat at in all Chicago! Love the food and especially the steak sandwich (my favorite). Most of all they have a wide variety of options for different dishes and bowls so you can pick the one that is just right for you!
google avatar

Lorenzo H.

Yelp
Oh man is this place a gem! Me and my wife stopped in for a quick bite before we attended an even close by. I had no idea what I was missing out on all this time. I had the Knuckle sandwich and my wife created her own bowl with chicken and Puerto Rican rice. Let's start with me. My sandwich was so good. The portion size was almost like having two sandwiches. The steak was delicious and juicy, the ingredients all mixed well together and the sauce was tasty. It was also toasted to perfection. My wife's bowl had some good looking chicken (I didn't try because I had so much of my own food). She said the rice, the chicken, and the veggies were awesome. The only thing comparable to the food was the BOSS SAUCE! She couldn't stop talking about that sauce. She also tried the Catalan Sofrito sauce. A bit sweeter than the boss sauce but also very good (her words). The staff was nice and helpful and the place looks nice, it has a more Chicago feel to it. They are still doing work to it so I'm sure it's going to look better in the future. It's nice to see a local restaurant get back up after this pandemic. I recommend this in place and we will be back
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
The steak sandwich was good Cuban was too salty but guess I will try it again .. ....... ....... ...
google avatar

Candace B.

Yelp
This place is a wonderful gem to the neighborhood. I have never been disappointed. The food is amazing and the service is always great. This place is definitely a must try.
google avatar

Zoe H.

Yelp
Definitely my new go to. The empanadas are amazing as are the Jibaritos. The quality of the meat they use is great! Tender, juicy, and flavorful. I highly recommend checking them out
google avatar

Zozo B.

Yelp
Delicious I really enjoy there bowls!!!! And the BOSS Sauce!!!! Lord!!!! If you haven't given this place a shot you definitely have to stop by and pick up your bowl or sandwich they a great selection... Me and my staff has really enjoyed everything we have ordered.....
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
These guys are just plain awesome. The owner is friendly as can be, the food is just insanely flavorful and it's one of those places that just feels comfortable to be in. They keep improving each time I go there whether in the atmosphere, presentation or service. Can't recommend highly enough!
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
Diana's is a fantastic place for lunch. The steak jibarito is great and so are all the empanadas. It's cozy, family-owned, and delicious!
google avatar

Jose C.

Yelp
Pretty nice clean place, the jibarito was real good and their rice is not greasy. Fast service with a good presentation.

Cecilia R.

Yelp
Best rellenos de papa hands down. The bowls are incredible. The flavor of the food, reminds me so much of home cooked meals. If you haven't tried them... do yourself a favor and check them out.
google avatar

Iliana G.

Yelp
So so good. I usually don't like jibaritos because of how greasy and soggy they are. But these jibritos are delicious! Not soggy or greasy at all, and the rice is very flavorful. Will definitely be my go to place! Not to mention the amazing prices!
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
Steak sandwich, the Cuban, and the steak empanadas (plus their great prices)? All good at Diana's, which is only open for breakfast and lunch (or maybe an early dinner, if you can move fast). The only miss for me was the jibarito...the sandwich plantains weren't quite fried enough for me, and I was expecting more crunch to go with that sandwich. Otherwise, a fantastic meal, and those empanadas were amazing!
google avatar

Sian D.

Yelp
I grew up in the neighborhood and have been going to Diana's for years. I love this place. Its family owned and you can't beat the customer service. The food is fresh and tasty. Support this local Puerto Rican business.
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
Some of the most phenomenal and best done PR food I've ever had with an owner who is one of the nicest people I've ever been met. Go here! Now!
google avatar

Nelson K.

Yelp
Food is great and staff is very friendly! I've only had the jibarito and I will definitely be back. Good portions and value.

Robert S.

Yelp
This place is great. We must protect it at all costs lol. I had almost all the sandwiches and a couple of bowls. I order from here at least twice a week. Don't forget the fries, they are seasoned well and so crispy!

Natalie M.

Yelp
Amazing food and employees!!! I can't recommend this place enough it's all around fantastic
google avatar

Charles D.

Yelp
Family owned business that has been around 20 years. You can tell that they really care about their food and customers. Simple yet very Latin atmosphere, & their jibarito is second to none! Suggest it without cheese though, it doesn't need it.

Gladson S.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food. The inside has a retro look to it. We ordered the knuckle sandwich and empanada, which were really good.

Steve w.

Yelp
Empanadas and Papa Relanas are a strong 8+. Cuban Sandwich, get the large for $7, just worth it, and tasty. Spanish Chicken Stew is awesome, I forget the name of it. Fresh, homemade food. I moved back from Miami, and looked all over the city for good Cuban food. This places feels like Miami, and costs less. Nice people behind the counter, will always close the deal, for a return visit.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
First time there...really impressed! Great chicken sandwich. Huge portion! Terrific bread. Well toasted. The melted cheese was terrific. I'll try again...
google avatar

Lynelle O.

Yelp
This is one of the best Puerto Rican restaurants that I've come across lately in Chicago. So good that I am now switching from past favorite PR spot to this one. The steak on the jibarito was extremely tender, juicy and flavorful. The plantains were perfectly fried and the white rice & beans were delicious! The portion sizes are very satisfying. You will walk out stuffed. Also newly remodeled with plenty of seating. Very pleased

Nicolette R.

Yelp
Anything they serve will leave you satisfied! They go above and beyond to provide quality meals that make you crave for more! Highly recommend the cheesecake and Relleno de papas!
google avatar

Sidney U.

Yelp
After a quick plane ride to Chicago, it was time to have some good high quality PR food. I was not sure what to expect, you know not having any Puerto Rican in me at all. The menu was on the left hand side of the wall and the top had all your American favorites....Cuban Sandwiches and the like but it was the bottom of the menu that I can for. Started out the Alcapurrias, a mashed green plantations with ground beef in the middle. Rellenos de papa and Cod fritters which we tasty but I think sitting under the warming lamp did not do them any justice. Now for dinner there was Roast pork with medium grain rice and pinto beans with pumpkin and potato...yum yum.. The pork was slow roasted perfected and the skin had the absolute perfect texture of crunch and fat. The Mofongo was tasty but just to oily for my liking and believe me, I am not a Mofongo aficionado but I have to give the restaurant 4 stars for at least making it fresh for us. I will absolutely visit this place again, but Chicago is just to big to stay in one neighborhood
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
Incredible sandwiches made with quality ingredients. You get a lot for your money while supporting a locally-owned business.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Commenting purely because I'm confused as to why they are closed right now? One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. The family was alsways so nice. Please dont tell me the Covid forced them to shut down as well smh
google avatar

Steve J.

Yelp
Food was cheap but you get what you pay for. We had Cuban sandwich which was salty and skimpy. Steak sandwich on Plantains was not steak. I think it was like pot roast meat or some other type of beef. Steak Empanadas where not steak again some other type of beef. Not sure why all the high rating. Very disappointed.
