Montreal’s Most Iconic Foods - Eater Montreal

"Founded in Montreal North over 60 years ago and now with several locations around the city, Dic Ann’s is Montreal’s home-grown burger chain. They’re known for obscenely thin patties and almost as slim buns, but the spicy meat sauce on the burger is what makes the magic happen." - Valerie Silva, Tim Forster

21 Spots Flipping the Juiciest, Beefiest Burgers in Montreal

"Dic Ann's famously thin burger originated out of efficiency's sake — but now it's a quintessential Montreal eat. "My grandfather wanted to work with volume, assembly line style, but with simple, good-quality products. That's how he came up with the idea," Anthony Zammit, the grandson of Dic Ann's founder, previously told Eater." - Valerie Silva, Eater Staff

28 Classic Restaurants Every Montrealer Must Try | Eater Montreal

"This burger joint has a style all its own: an uncommonly thin patty is covered in a spicy meat sauce and pressed between a toasted bun. For the more adventurous, add a slice of pepperoni to the mix. Open since 1956 in Montréal-Nord, with outposts around the city. Still one of a kind after 60 years." - Tim Forster

Google
It's a classic place that has been there for a very long time! There is not much place to seat at since it's a more dine in seat table style "sur comptoir" or for to go! My friends usually order for to go since highschool but today we tried to eat dine in and it was very chill overall ! We enjoy our time today ✨️

Google
Dic Ann's in Montreal is a true gem! 🍔 The burgers, a perfect blend of flavors and textures, showcase a meticulous attention to detail. A must-visit for anyone seeking burger perfection in Montreal. They also offer delivery in some branches but no combos or trios, just your choice of burger with whatever add-ons.

Google
Love this place, location, staff, service and authentic burgers. Thin smash burger type with a unique sauce. Hotdogs are quite good too, prepared quite different from the usual steamed style and on toasted buns. Thin crispy french fries too.

Google
Best burger I've have in ages. The fries were amazing, too. And, to top it all off, I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for it. A double cheeseburger with fries and a drink costs like 13.50

Google
Was working in the area, went to go eat here 3 days in a row for lunch. Food was good, staff was friendly and quick. The owner is awesome and always in a good mood and likes to joke around.

Google
You either love them or hate them. Very thin Pattie’s loaded with taste. Great comfort food when on the go. Service is quick and burgers are priced right.

Google
I've been going there for 25+ years and it's always amazing. This place is fast and consistent. No better burger in town!

Google
I've been going to this place since I was in my mother's stomach and I still go to this day, the employees have all known me since I was born and they're amazing. It is the OG Dic Ann's after all!

Yelp
Pardon mon Anglaise cashier keeps the tips while employees do all the work. Please direct your tips to the cooks they do all the preparations le caissier garde les pourboires pendant que les employés font tout le travail. Veuillez adresser vos conseils aux cuisiniers, ils font toutes les préparations

Yelp
I came here to satisfy my craving. I used to come here in 70's and went to the high school just behind this unique restaurant. It's quite simple: these are the most unique looking hamburgers you'll ever see. So thin and a nice secret sauce make them uniquely delicious. The commercial from years ago would say the hamburgers are so thin you can slide them under a door, and it still holds true. I had 2 cheeseburgers, some perfectly cooked French fries and a Pepsi. The ambiance adds to the experience with just one row of about 20 stools. It's been like this for decades and that makes it even more cool. If you have not tried this type of burger, go for it, you're gonna love it!

Yelp
I go there since I'm a child and never been disappointed but be ready to take more than 1 burger cause they're pretty thin but so delicious plus I almost forgot to say that this Dic Ann's is the original one and the first that opened long time ago

Yelp
This place is one of my favorite burger spots. It's the OG Dic Ann with vintage neon sign and all. They have limited places to eat in by the counter. They do take out. Service is always super friendly and fast. The burgers come with their delicious (lightly) spicy meat sauce that you have to try. They are super thin with hot plat flattened breads. The fries are fried in peanut oil so allergy kids stay away! But all this give this place its charm and taste. Been a returning custy for past decade and planning on many more. Only wished this place was open late night.

Yelp
Haven't had this burger in a while. My boyfriend and i started to suddenly crave it like never before. picked up a all dressed cheeseburger and hamburger before work.always has been & always will be a 5 star burger. Dic & Ann really knew what they were doing!!!

Rob C.

Yelp
this franchise is available only in Quebec and has a special spicy sauce with its flattened burgers. hot dogs, hamburgers fries and poutine are all delicious and served with their special sauce. Must try for all tourists

Yelp
This place has potential but there is so much competition. Back in the days, i believe this was the place, but now it's not so much appreciated. the burgers are good but let's be honest, not the best. the fries are delicious though! good to try

Yelp
Dic Ann's a good cheap place to grab a burger and fries but definitely overrated. The burger was pretty good and unique looking. The fries were good too but nothing exceptional. SKIP THE POUTINE.DONT GIVE IT A CHANCE, IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY! It was so dry on top and soggy on the bottom. It had weird cheese and sauce in it. Cute place definetely but packed so you can take-out

Yelp
An institution. A legend even. The Pie IX location is the original Dic Ann's--it's also the home of one of North America's most original burgers. The house special is an ultra-flat patty that's adorned only with their secret sauce, and served between an ultra-thin, smashed bun. This is a burger that was built for speed and Dic Ann's has set land speed records for burgers. The premises haven't changed much since the '50s. Neither have their prices. It doesn't get much more old-school than this and, personally, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yelp
Amazing and unique burgers! I usual go to the in Ville D'Anjou near autoroute 25.

Yelp
I ordered the double cheeseburger. It was pretty tasty. What makes this only a 3 star review was the service. We were visiting from California and it probably doesn't surprise anyone that we don't speak French. The server insisted on speaking to us in French and we could barely understand a word. Her body language spoke volumes though. She was obviously didn't want to attempt to communicate with us in any way. She maintained a gruff look on her face and an offensive posture. No help at all.

Yelp
If there was less than 1 star I would have given it to them. Bad customer service very very small portion of both burger and fries the taste is beyond normal. I dont understand the hype! It shouldn't even be called burger the lower part need to be thicker it was a joke.

Yelp
I don't get it either. And that poutine! Worst poutine ever! Rubbery grated mozerella with some of the meat from the sauce on top and the fries bathing inwhat only can be described as brown hot dog water. No no no no no.... Never again.

Yelp
A Montreal icon! Those famous, amazing, thin burgers! When u want some real junk food to hit the spot this is it! No point in ordering just one cause u will end up ordering another two! Just save yourself the time and order 4-5 burgers like I do lol fries are good (fried in peanut oil) but I don't order em to save space for the burgers! That's what it's all about!
google avatar

Yelp
A real Montreal institution ! My parents lived nearby so I would stumble in on occasion and still stop by since I moved out. Dropped in this past Friday for 2 cheeseburgers with that special sauce! Take away also available!
google avatar

Yelp
One of a kind burgers! I always get 3 cheeseburgers and put the fries inside to make the perfect mix with their special sauce!

Yelp
Ok, what am I not getting here? Someone took me to this place for lunch yesterday, raving about it and shocked that in the year I have lived here I have not eaten at a Dic Ann's. At first I wasn't even going to give it a rating because it would be 1 or 2 stars tops and I didn't want to pull it down from all the lovers of Dic Ann's....so maybe it is me? I had a double burger and poutine. I am not usually a fast food guy, but I find the poutine at Harvey's to be way better! And for that matter the burgers as well. I liked their sauce though. I also liked the originality of the way they serve the flat burgers with squished down buns soaked in the sauce. Nice work. It just didn't do it for me though. And old school, cash only! Who carries cash? Maybe it's an acquired taste! I'll give it another shot in a few Months when I have a fast food craving again!

Yelp
If i could have one last burger for the the rest of my Life it would definetly be this one . Best sauce eva ! I love it!!! Yahtzee!!!

Tony C.

Yelp
The food at all the dic Ann's is amazing. But the prices keep going up and up. It used to be a very affordable bargain to eat at these places; now that little secret place I used to go to is a lot more pricey. Still excellent, just will have to go less then before. Enjoy

Yelp
Another over rated alleged Montreal institution. It's been around since the advent of fast food. They have a special sauce which they apply on super thin patties and hotdogs. I've been to three of their locations in the past 25 years and despite the excellent, curtious, and clean service which is consistent through out all of their locations, their product is expensive and unappetizing. The fries are terrible thin and boring and overall it's simply not worth it. Every time I've been there I've had 5 cheese burgers with a fry finding myself eating again two hours later. Go once so you can say you've been there otherwise Don't bother.

Yelp
Not sure I get this place, they make burgers flat like grilled cheese and add some kind of gravy meaty sauce which coud be good in theory but they want to sell it for 2$ so not much quality there but you have value for what you pay. Sure it gives you a retro experience of what fast food was like 40 years ago but not really in a fun way and I don't think the staff is very friendly and helful based on multiple visits
google avatar

Yelp
This is a classic Montreal burger joint that has a pretty original super thin burger, so they can sling them out at the speed of hunger. Top it off with a spicy tomato sauce with raw onions that you need a coffee stick the lift from the plate and you got some awesome burgers. Plus fries fried in peanut oil, a life changer. This place is a love it or hate it place. I love it.

Frank R.

Yelp
Been eating that stuff since 1972 ,,, gonna have to put a couple of them in my coffen when I go,,, Frank

Yelp
My favourite burger spot. Been coming here with my dad since I was just a kid. It nice to see the same staff after all these years.

Darryl W.

Yelp
Terrible terrible terrible. I think if you grew up with this place then yu might like the food... Otherwise... you wont like it. Far better burger places around...
google avatar

Zach E.

Yelp
Great place, I love their chill sauce. It is so good on the poutine and in the burgers. Their hot-dogs are good as well, I like that they slice the sausage to make it even in the bread. You don't have a big selection but you have everything you could want! I recommend the Double Cheeseburger (All Dressed) with a poutine. Try it, you'll love it.

Cristina U.

Yelp
My ex used to rave about the place. Then he took me one day and i did not get why he loved it. He actually got upset with me that i didnt like it. This was years ago. Then this week i passed one and decided what the heck, lets give it another try. Well, i still dont get it. The meat itself is so thin u barely taste it, and i had a double. No flavor, not filling. The look of the fries on the menu was not appetizing enough to buy some and i'm a fry junkie. They cut hot dogs in half, and only serve the one half, so they can squish them better. I don't get it. Its so expensive and its 60% or so just bread. i have to be desperate to go pack again. Not worth the $$$.
