Deliziosa! Tried DiGulio Brothers for the first time tonight with my family. Best Italian in Baton Rouge! The old world style sauce pops with fresh herbs and meaty tomato. The impressively large meatball holds up well with soft seasonings throughout that marry perfectly with the robust sauce. Soft, fragrant parmesean is available at the table to add at your discretion. The garlic bread was crisp and flavorful, not greasy or soggy at all. The chicken marsala was hands down the best I have had since culinary school. Full bodied, thick gravy with mushrooms, such a delight. The chocolate pie is a stand out, tasting so much like my own grandmother's recipe from the 20s. The crust tasted almost caramelized. Service was polite and prompt. On our way out, we ran into the owner. He was very kind to us. It was so nice for him to take the time to greet us and recommend coming by for other offerings. I grew up in the country, and it's nice when you feel like you're conversing with a neighbor at a local business. My whole party raved about the food through the whole meal. The prices, to me, are well worth it. This establishment packs both quantity, and more importantly, quality during an age in which many people cut corners. They also were so kind to accommodate the vegetarian in our party substituting the meatball for another stuffed manicotti. They are very busy and for good reason. I saw a lot of one star reviews before I came, and I was worried, but frankly, as a former chef, a foodie, a lover of hometown comfort and family closeness, DiGulio Brothers is the whole package. Molto bene!
