"Dignita should be your all-day brunch move in Amsterdam, especially if you’re looking to be closer to calmer canals. The Hoftuin location by the Plantage has a spacious lawn to stretch out on, a hefty buttermilk fried chicken sandwich called the Chook Norris, and sits a mere five-minute walk away from the Magere Brug. Another reason we love this place: all of the Dignita restaurants are non-profit social enterprises opened by Not for Sale, an organization fighting modern slavery and providing career opportunities for former victims." - paolo espanola

"This all-day brunch restaurant, located in a secluded courtyard, is the perfect place to break away from the hustle and bustle of the city, especially to sit on the outdoor terrace in the summer. Order the benedict-like Benny Boy with poached eggs, bacon, and hollandaise on their signature crispy potato hash, or go for the chickpea fritters with whipped ricotta, preserved lemon relish, poached egg, fresh avocado, and homemade lemon thyme za’atar. Pair anything with the excellent spicy bloody mary. Dignita also has two other locations near Vondelpark and Westerpark, two of the city’s best parks." - Monique van Loon

Make a reservation, as it’s always very busy. The location is beautiful—calm and green, a peaceful spot in the city. The interior is very cozy, and when the weather is nice, it’s amazing to sit outside and enjoy the garden. Food: It seems like the prices have gone up while the portion sizes have decreased. The Chuck Norris sandwich costs €18, which feels quite high for what you get. I had the savoury kadaif—it's a nice and unique dish, but again, I think €16 is too much. The prices of the 'Sides' are also not in proportion. 5 euro for a smashed avocado! They usually offer a wide variety of desserts, but unfortunately, there weren’t many left. We ordered the apple pie, which tasted great, but the portion was very small. Overall, it was a nice experience. However, I’d suggest reviewing the portion sizes, and the service could definitely be a bit quicker.

As much as we had hopes of liking the food, it failed. Service was just horrible. We waited 30 minutes for someone to take our order after we flagged them down and waited another 30 minutes for drinks, receiving a cold coffee which was clearly sitting somewhere. Food finally arrived after an hour and a half to find eggs Benedict that was over cooked, more hard boiled than poached and a sauce that was overly acidic. Safe to say, skip this location and try something more efficient.

Such a lovely space! Perfect for a relaxed breakfast / brunch in the quiet of a sunny museum backyard. Interesting food options mixed with classics so there’s something for everyone, including a little kids play area ✨

Make sure to make a reservation. They were quite busy and had a line waiting out the door. They do have several locations. We came here based on all the reviews and also based on a recommendation from an acquaintance. But honestly, we thought the food was just ok. Average and really nothing to rave about.

Google
The food was good. Service began friendly, but after a few extra minutes at the table the staff started saying “sorry for the rush” to ask us to free the table in an unfriendly tone, and kept repeating it even after we cleared our drinks in seconds. After paying and quickly leaving the table, I went to the restroom. As I was heading out, the waitress said, “Oh, you’re still here?”—which felt quite rude. It made me wonder: once you’ve paid, are you not allowed to use the bathroom? That unfriendly treatment left us with a negative impression

Google
Such a lovely place for brunch, all the dishes looked amazing, I couldn’t decide what to have! I had the pancakes and they were delicious, just the right amount of sweetness! I will definitely be back with family and friends!

Google
Such a beautiful spot! 🤩 While the Benny Boy is €16.5, you get exactly what you’re paying for. The presentation and the taste are 10/10! You will need to reserve as it gets really busy even during the week. The only downside, was that when it was busy, there was not enough staff for the volume of customers. We waited about 45 minutes for our order, this included waiting for our coffee. We then had to remind one of the waiters about our order as we presumed they had forgotten which was the case. I would definitely recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere, but I hope the slow service was just unusual for that particular day.

Google
Delicious brunch spot in the midst of the Hoftuin Park. Had the mushrooms and cheese sandwich and the middle-eastern Cilbir. Both very tasty! The lemon pancakes were really tasty as well, just as the cappuccino! Nice and welcoming service!

Yelp
Great food. Fantastic ambience and consistent service. I have had great luck walking in without a reservation.

Yelp
What a lovely location ima garden just off of the Holocaust memorial the menu has so many healthy yummy choices there are ample ways to cheer yourself or relax or refuel We had the cilbir: 2 poached eggs with yogurt and dukkah And The savory Dutch baby with mackerel added A dirty oat chai and a coffee. Friendly service The cilbir was ok. I would try something else next time though the eggs and bread were good the amount of yogurt was more than I thought worked and frisee is not my favorite green. The savory Dutch baby was 10/10 though. The coffee butter sauce also featured a bright citrus note. The dish had peas and asparagus and it was all flavor balanced. Yum!!

Yelp
Great service overall. Friendly and prompt, as we would expect. The ambiance is amazing with the well lighted and open dining area. Windows instead of walls or a roof. The food is amazing. The eggs and pancakes. Wow. It's right next to the metro station and the new Holocaust name museum as well.

Yelp
Such a cute spot for brunch in Amsterdam! We came by without a reservation but we were lucky to be seated on a rainy Sunday morning. I started with a cappuccino which was lovely and then we got the Chook Norris (crispy chicken sandwich in between milk bread) and cauliflower fritters. Both dishes were great and super filling for a relatively healthy and fresh brunch. We really loved the excellent service here and the overall experience was fantastic! The interior is really gorgeous and definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
74 F degrees and a sunny morning. Imagine brunching in this leafy, lush landscape... serene and pleasant in every way. Watch a kitten chase leaves in the breeze while you munch on eggs Benny... poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce on Dutch latkes, with smoked salmon. My latte was piping hot and invigorating. Seagulls swoop in and perch temptingly near you. Nearby, a sweet community garden of mostly flowers. Within five minutes of the Amsterdam Museum and the Heritage (formerly Hermitage) Museum. Service was perfection. One amazing woman took care of over 25 guests with such grace and speed that everyone was happy.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Amsterdam, my coworker found this great place and I made reservations ahead of time. The spot is a bit hidden, so look out for signs that'll lead you to the restaurant. It's so gorgeous and filled with natural light! Perfect for all-day brunch. We started out ordering a Golden Pumpkin Spice Latte, because it's fall lol. Then we got two plates to share: Çilbir & focaccia (2 poached Freiland eggs on a creamy and fresh garlic yogurt. Served with a spicy chilli butter, pumpkin seed dukkah, fresh herbs, sumac & homemade rosemary sourdough focaccia) and the Benny Boy Avocado (Two poached Freiland eggs with smashed avocado, apple cider hollandaise & green shoots, served on your choice of crispy potato cakes OR wholemeal bread). Definitely a great way to start the day! Loved this meal and would come back again.

Yelp
The bacon Benedict was amazing. Get it on the best hash browns ever. Super crispy, yet creamy insides. There was crispy bacon and not crispy bacon too. So all these delicious textures going on.

Yelp
Whenever my fiancé and I are in Amsterdam, we visit Dignita. We had only been to the original Amsterdam location until yesterday when we visited Dignita Hoftuin. We paired the Green Paradise drinks with a Japanese avocado dish and a yogurt parfait. Here are some highlights of the experience: -fast service -beautiful, hipster atmosphere -healthy menu options -gorgeous views -delicious food -aesthetically appealing food The culinary creativity is enough to entice people to visit. Now add on the beautiful sight of the food and the fact that the restaurant helps solve a pressing world crisis (human trafficking) and voilà: Dignita. The only suggestions I have for the restaurant are to expand the menu for more options and to not use fruit juice in the smoothie (sorry nutrition scientist here). Oh, and I would love to see a location in California Fiancé and I will be back at Dignita for many years to come. We truly hope this business thrives!

Yelp
Food was good. Surroundings were very pretty and ambiance was nice inside. A nice spot for a coffee or tea.

Lauren F.

Yelp
the ambiance of this place is well worth the visit. the food was good not great, but the setting was just so gorgeous and peaceful. the coffee was excellent, so would absolutely recommend that!

Yelp
Ambiance: 5 Service: 5 Food: 5 Drinks: 4 Hard to find but so worth it. There are healthy options here but you don't have to sacrifice flavor on either of them. Pancakes (ask for extra syrup if you're from the US) yes! Zucchini dish...yes! Avocado toast...yes!!! Be careful with avocado toast because it comes on like a 100grain bread. But it's delish. Bloody Mary's are light in base but still tasty... This is a legit brunch all day spot!

Yelp
Yet another Amsterdam cafe with FRESH and tasty food. There menu is simple and smart. First, you need to order a coffee or tea. All the hot drinks come with a small coconut macaroon! This Is definitely not standard in the states, but it may need in Amsterdam. Regardless, it's bomb. We each ordered our drinks, finished them and ordered another round of coffees before we even looked at the menu. The service here is excellent, but not very quick. I think this is another one of those cultural differences. We sat at this cafe for About 2 hours total. But truly, no complaints! It's a great place to people watch, as the cafe has all glass windows as walls. For a breakfast entree, I ordered chickpea fritters. I have no idea what possessed me to order these, but I am so glad I did! They almost were like a breakfast falafel. The most delicious breakfast I've ordered on the entire trip. They were perfectly spiced and crispy, but not overly fatty. They were served with grilled halloumi, my favorite cheese at the moment. The portion was a great size... in fact b b I didn't even finish them because the chickpeas made them so filling. I hope to be back in Amsterdam soon so I can return to this cafe!

Flora H.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! Glass walls all around make you feel like you are in a greenhouse, which complements the menu perfectly - very instagrammable, super healthy (but still filling and flavorful) dishes that feel like they pulled the ingredients right out of garden to make. Lovely spot for brunch!

Dominique F.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and brunch food. Love the space too and the fact that it's all so casual. You walk in and just pick wherever you want to sit down. There's a few bigger tables so you might end up having to share a table if it's getting busy! Service was fast and friendly. Would absolutely be back!

Yelp
Phenomenal brunch and beautiful location. This restaurant is located right by the Zoo and within a garden connected to a free art museum. The building itself is lavish and open, we couldn't resist popping in. Despite brunch almost being over (and it goes all day!) our waitress quickly seated us and offered up the menu after checking with the kitchen for what was still available. We enjoyed our beer and juniper-gin cocktail with juniper berries and swirls of cucumber. We started with the vegetarian beet Bitterballen which had the texture of regular bitterballen with a delicious beet center. These came with a side of mint yogurt for dipping. The "Forest Dwellers" with enoki, portabello, brown beech and button mushrooms is sauteed with truffeled creme fraiche and served on fresh homemade bread and crispy sage. We also ordered a free range egg on top which was perfectly cooked and had a beautiful presentation. They also had toast points with whole figs and goat cheese that day but we were stuffed! A lovely place for brunch.

Yelp
WOW! By far the best breakfast I had in Amsterdam and possibly the best eggs benedict I've had. The potato stack was perfectly crispy and flavored, the eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise was just the right amount of creamy and acidic. We had a lovely waitress, Kat, who was so pleasant and attentive, overall great service too! It was only after I had my amazing breakfast that I learned how incredible the restaurant is as a business. The proceeds from the restaurant help victims of sex trafficking and help give them a safe place. So not only do they have incredible food, but also are a business with great values. THIS PLACE IS A MUST GO!

Saman K.

Yelp
Had the best pancakes of my life here! A mountain of fluffy cakes topped with pistachio white chocolate topping, strawberry and rhubarb!!! Can't wait to come and order these again.

Shana G.

Yelp
Need I say anymore? My pictures say it all. I am visiting here from Las Vegas, NV and I happened to find this place on Yelp while walking around Southeast Amsterdam. I came for breakfast with my dad and we were blown away by the beautiful, idyllic scenery both inside and outside of the restaurant. There's a lovely back patio with tables surrounded by nature, which adds to the welcoming and peaceful atmosphere. I ordered the "Benny Boy," and it was absolutely delightful. Not a crumb was left on my plate after finishing. Dad enjoyed the "Umami Avocado," and says it was a delectable dish. If we were locals, we'd be here everyday for breakfast. I'm extremely pleased and happy to have spent my morning here.

Yelp
Such a great brunch/lunch restaurant!! We found this place nestled in a cute park and were happy to have gotten a table outside. We ordered the pancakes, the peach/burrata salad, and the benny boy. All were so tasty and fresh. The beautiful weather, delicious food, great outdoor patio, and good service made this the perfect brunch!

Jordan M.

Yelp
One of the best brunches I've ever had. I was expecting it to be good, but all of the dishes were both creative and perfectly executed. I have recreated the chickpea and zucchini pancake dish at home because I loved it so much and don't live in Amsterdam. Tons of options for all kinds of dietary restrictions. Our wait was short, but we had friends that showed up later and couldn't get a table, so be prepared. The interior is so beautiful and the outside seating is perfect for a nice day. I also found everything to be very affordable for the portion size and quality. I loved Dignita Hoftuin!

Hayley D.

Yelp
Best breakfast I've EVER had! The Benny Boy is a must! I want to come visit Amsterdam again just to get this breakfast. I would recommend setting a reservations ahead. Very cool and fun environment too. And great for large groups

Katie H.

Yelp
Good brunch, great location - right next to the Hermitage Amsterdam museum. The Benny Boy was delicious. The signature pancakes were good but very, very sweet so beware!

Caitlin C.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Amsterdam! We stopped here for a late brunch/early lunch before our visit to the Hermitage Museum. The building is truly stunning! A small glass house in the center of a museum courtyard; even without any summer greenery and on a winter day it felt like being in a beautiful terrarium. I had a delicious squash soup with homemade bread; the soup had so many levels of flavor and the bread was warm and crunchy with toasted seeds. To die for! My husband had the eggs royale, which he said had the best hollandaise sauce he's ever had (and he's an aficionado). The coffee was good and the mimosas were strong with freshly squeezed orange juice. We also had a sweet cake to go that we enjoyed walking through the museums courtyard. The service was incredibly friendly, the prices were very fair, and the mission of the restaurant is even better: they focus on free-range, healthy foods and they offer training and employment to vulnerable people.

Kelly E.

Yelp
Best brunch in Amsterdam, amazing spread and great friendly staff with a beautiful surrounding garden

Alex M.

Yelp
I love this place. Love love love. Loved my Afri Cola. Loved my fries, and especially loved my yogurt sauce and mango chutney chicken salad sandwich- amazing taste sensation, with fresh produce from their own garden. And that organic bread they use is fabulous. Servers are lovely. They're sensitive to allergies. I want to eat here every day. I have paid a great deal for some meals in Amsterdam that just weren't up to par- but this place totally exceeded my expectations. I am going to make it a point to try everything on the menu.

Pat S.

Yelp
Coming here for years. The location itself is always great, especially when you're able to sit outside. The quality of the coffee used to be ok, lately both the quality and quantity seem to have dropped. Food in general is good (90% of the time) and seems to change slightly to whatever is in stock or in season. Sometimes you'll get a generous or an unfortunate stingy surprise. It only happened a few times that things arrived burned or even missing ingredients! Service is in general very sad indeed, not always though, there are a handful that do actually seem to get it, so you might be in luck. But most of them really don't give a... They seem to have a completely new staff every year. After the food arrives we have to request for the cutlery almost every time. Mind you, getting anyone's attention will take you between 5 and 15 minutes. So you're left staring at your food.. They seem to have enough people inside but are severely understaffed outside. The latest addition to their strategy of scaring away the returning customers: An unrealistic upholding of ordering deadlines. Today we arrived at 10:50, waited the usual 15 minutes for service to finally notice us. Yet for the first time in all these years, we where told that we can't order our favourite dish anymore, because we ordered it a few minutes after 11:00.. Hopefully someone their that cares is able to prevent this slow decay of what use to be a great place.

Tara S.

Yelp
This just became my new favourite brunch place! The atmosphere is great, looking out of the windows you can see the gardens as you brunch which is beautiful :) I ordered the zucchini chickpea fritter, which left me feeling full but not bloated at all and it wasn't at all overly oily, so it was perfect! Reasonable portion sizes, reasonable prices, try the chocolate espresso cake (very decadent and rich but so worth it). All in all, this place is a massive win highly recommend!

Johanna S.

Yelp
This restaurant is right behind the hermitage, in a lovely garden. The menun is slightly overpriced but the location makes it well worth. What i liked: - nice terrace outside - friendly service, well above dutch standard

Alexandra P.

Yelp
The food was good and the stuff was friendly, really. But in spite of this our visit to Dignita Hoftuin left a bitter aftertaste. We came for a brunch 4/27/2019 around noon and of course I understood that it is a popular place and just hoped the food is worth waiting. We were seated at the garden because there was a line for the indoor tables. And then the chain of strangest things unfolds. Seems like Dignita Hoftuin have no system which gives waiters a chance to track any of orders. The staff literally roams between the tables peeking into the faces trying to remember who ordered drinks or food. As a result: somebody drank our latte by mistake, we had cappuccino instead - with apologies, but I guess this cappuccino was ordered by someone else. Pancakes were served cold before the main dishes (I`ve watched a waitress walking around with them, as it turned out, looking for me, about 10 minutes). After that couple of hours of trying to help staff puzzle out which drinks and food belong to us we spent extra time at the cashdesk. To pay by card you have to queue up, then try to explain to cashier which table you had. I must add that tables have no numbers or any other identification, it was literally "there, there, no, left, no, yes, that one behind that one you`re pointing at". We really hope that Dignita Hoftuin management will try their best to make staff`s work easier and the visitors experience less nervous.

Nicole M.

Yelp
This place is brunch perfection. We wandered in off the street on a Wednesday afternoon, enticed by the offer of all day brunch and were not disappointed: this is as good as any specialty weekend I've ever tasted, and what lucky people the Dutch are that they can have it whenever they like! Everything was excellent, from the fresh O.J. to the complimentary mini macaroon with our green tea. Even the toast was extraordinarily flavorful (rustic bread can't be beat!) Sweet and savory are equally mastered: the strawberry pancakes are complex and delicate: lavender, poppyseed and fruit all intermingling in the fluffy cakes and creamy mascarpone whip. The Benny Boy was tremendous: some of the best hollandaise I've ever had, perfectly poached eggs, a nice salty touch from the bacon and a gloriously crisp hash patty for a base (highly recommend this, though the toast is also terrific.) Additionally the staff is lovely and helpful. I couldn't have asked for a better brunch.

Wes M.

Yelp
Liked it so much we went back for a breakfast after having a late lunch there. Food was unique and very flavorful. Had several egg dishes and the rose pancakes. Nothing we wouldn't have again. Staff was fast and friendly and environment was so peaceful.

Ann V.

Yelp
Love this place! It's in a pretty, greenhouse-like building right behind the Heritage Museum. I had a delicious avocado toast and my husband really liked his zucchini fritters. Fast, friendly service. And on this cold day, the double lattes really hit the spot. Highly recommend for a fast (probably healthy) and yummy lunch!

John Q.

Yelp
The garden is beautiful, green and peaceful. There is a very simple but nice menu with organic options. The service is friendly but a bit chaotic. They can be a bit slow.

Jan Joost B.

Yelp
Lovely sandwich and proper coffee! Perfect and light restaurant for having a lunch within a beautiful and relaxed environment.

Ben R.

Yelp
Great place for a light bite to eat. Good coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice. Plenty of seating in a nice garden area.
