This Is the No. 1 Tourist Destination Letdown in the U.S.—but Here's How to Visit It Properly

The Best Soup Dumplings in NYC | Eater NY

"This deep and narrow place, with ducks and cured pork hanging in the window, has brought decent dim sum to the Flatiron, probably for the first time. The soup dumplings are presented rather unceremoniously in a plastic carryout container, three to an order, but are quite good nonetheless. Look for other branches around town, along with locations of the mothership Dim Sum Palace in Chinatown and Wall Street." - Robert Sietsema

Do not get fooled by the fake 5 star reviews. The 4.8-star rating at the time of our visit is incredibly misleading. When you scan a QR code at the counter and leave a review, they give you a free drink—so take those glowing reviews with a grain of salt. We came here based on those ratings, but it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. We ordered the Combo over rice with roasted duck and soy chicken, beef stew noodles, chicken dumplings, and shrimp dumplings. The portions were disappointing—mostly rice with very little meat and even the small portion of meat is full of bones, laterally more than half of the meat portion was bone. The chicken dumplings were honestly horrible, and while the shrimp dumplings were okay, they couldn’t redeem the meal. Roasted duck was inedible, smelled and looked like it’s been sitting there for three days. The beef stew noodles were completely inedible as well. They had a raw, unpleasant smell, and we tried to convince ourselves it was fine, but we just couldn’t eat them. We approached the front counter respectfully—not asking for a refund, just to exchange the beef dish for dumplings to justify the $60 we had just spent after a long walk around New York. The staff was rude, dismissive, and made no effort to help. No manager was there to talk to and explain, they didn’t not even look at the food. We left most of the food and ended up going to another restaurant. This isn’t about being picky, i eat out in different places from food trucks to fine dining places and i know I am not picky at all—it’s about basic food quality and customer care. Save your money and your time. Avoid this place

Google
Very good food for the price, 20$ meal with a drink. I had the BBQ pork and white rice with some hot sauce, very satisfying. Fast service, convenient. The closed restaurant room (no windows) and number announcements don't participate in a good atmosphere. It's fast food, don't expect restaurant style service!

My favourite weekend’s breakfast place. I live in mid town and this is one of the best nearby without having to travel far to Chinatown or Flushing. Come here at least once or twice per month. They wanted to encourage people to review so I did to get a free drink 😂. (But you don’t have to give a 5 stars, just need a review to get a free drink). Honest view is the food is good enough for me to keep coming back.

We went here for breakfast so many times and I once went for a late dinner. My mom really loved the pork and thousand year egg congee and I just loved all steamed stuff! Sooo good! It’s quite pricey for dimsum but this is New York City so I think I guess it’s ok for NYC prices. The noodles and congee have large servings though so plus everything is soooo tasty so I think it’s really good value for money. Oh and they make their own sauces. We tried asking where they buy their soy sauce because it’s good and they said the chef makes it. Try adding a bit of soy sauce to your plain rice dish or dip some of your dim sum on it! I really appreciate they open early at 8 and close late at 12:30AM The place is clean. Since we go in the mornings, it’s quiet. I went at night once, there’s a good crowd but their serving time is not long and people eat quickly and go. You order at the cashier and if you will dine in, they’ll call you to come pick up your order at the cashier. Utensils and sauces are on a table in the dining area. This is HIGHLY recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just had an amazing meal at Dim Sum Sam The Summit in Manhattan, and here's the verdict! The dining space is bright, clean, and spacious— perfect for a relaxed meal and good conversation. Portions are generous and truly satisfying. Char Siew - Thick, succulent, and glazed with just the right amount of sweetness. Noodles - Perfectly springy with great texture. Roast Duck - Juicy, well-seasoned, and executed beautifully. Dim Sum - The prawn dumplings were plump and had a delightful crunch, while the Siew Mai was loaded with succulent prawns. For the best value, go for the set menu-it comes with an iced lemon tea and a buttery egg tart to round off the meal. Will I be back? Absolutely! If you're a dim sum lover, this spot is a must-try if you are in this area.

Google
Egg tart is just my favorite, best one in Manhattan tbh. Buddha dumping is surprising too, mushroom taste is strong and many vegs inside, good to balance proteins. Chicken feet is good as usual.

Google
Cafeteria style table and chair set-up.... super basic! Service.... no.service to speak of, it's all self-serve Food... good in parts... dimsum and pork belly were good... steamed pork starter was not... duck with rice was very hard and dry and the rice portion was too big compared to the other stuff

EH

Google
Quick good value comfort food. Pay then take a seat for your order # to be called for pickup at counter. We had roast duck over rice, wonton noodle soup, pretty good for the price to value/portion near port authority. We liked the food didn’t taste salty or msg added. Ice coffee/tea was not as flavorful nor strong as other Chinese places, full of ice enough for few sips only.

Yelp
If heaven serves dim sum, it probably looks like this. The siu mai was juicy and flavorful -- that perfect pork-shrimp combo with a pop of roe on top. The xiao long bao? Brothy little miracles. Handle with care unless you want a soup facial. Even the gai lan was on point -- crisp, bright, and soaking in that umami-rich soy sauce. And don't sleep on the braised beef rice bowl -- melt-in-your-mouth beef, tender daikon, and rice that soaked up all that savory goodness like a champ. Everything came out fresh and hot, service was quick, and portions were solid. You can tell they care about quality -- not just turning tables.

Yelp
Dim Sum Sam you are fast, quick, and tasty! If you are craving some Asian food this is the spot. They are busy and kind of hectic but the food is legit. The dim sum here is delicious and the noodles are tasty! I wanted a different type of noodle but they were already sold out for the day. But even the egg noodles were nice and springy. This is pretty much a fast casual spot with a few other locations around New York. I would totally come back here for their food it was just that good.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is beautiful. A fresh and vibrant vibe of light colored wood and gold accented marble tables. There's a quick order kiosk and cashier in the front and numbers are called when you're food is ready. I went with a group of ladies who happen to LOVE Dumpling dives. Annnnnnd this place didn't disappoint. Everything came out hot and aesthetically pleasing. Here's what I loved: crispy pork belly bowl & pork and crab soup dumpling. The pork was crispy on the outside and the meat itself was juicy. I've never had something with two textures like this before. It was delicious! There was a sauce lightly drizzled on the meat and rice. The vegetables sliced on the side of the bowl were Crunchy (which I love) and very tasty. I've never tried the thinly sliced veggies before but found it to be really good. In the same, glory I'll mention the pork and crab soup dumplings. Which were very tasty. The filling had the perfect amount of meat and the soup was delicious. So, i didn't like the sweet pork buns because of the fluffy texture of the dough. I tried it and knew that it wasn't for me. I enjoyed the filling which was sweet and memorable. However, the ladies I went with totally enjoyed them and said they were absolutely delicious. Also, the spicy mushroom dumpling was delicious also. It has a perfect chew to spice ratio that compliments the flavor.

Yelp
Fast causal dim sum place that also serves soup noodles and Cantonese BBQ meats. Upon entering it looks small, but there is a good amount of seating in the back. There is also an upstairs section. After ordering, you can sit down and wait for your number to be called. The food was pretty decent. The shrimp dumplings and beef rice noodle roll were delicious and fresh. There is extra sauce you can use by the self serve utensils counter. The chicken feet was ok. It was nice and tender but could use more flavor. Overall, a good place to have a quick meal or snack in the area.

Yelp
Had my meal delivered so my experience is a little different from an in restaurant meal. But I really enjoyed it. The roast duck and soy sauce chicken portions were carefully cut up and packaged neatly. Very tasty and not overcooked. The minced chicken congee was delicious and simply prepared. I'm looking forward to trying the dim sum dishes but these items were exactly what I wanted for lunch and there's plenty leftover for lunch tomorrow!

Yelp
I love coming here when I don't know what I want to eat! Lots of options for cheap. Grandmas are super nice!

Yelp
Getting in and out of Dim Sum Sam can be difficult, as the queue is near the door, but the eating area is inside. I will say, though, that their location being near the heavy foot traffic in Port Authority Bus Transit AND a convenient alternative to Chinatown may make it heavily frequented. I stopped by finally on a weekend night after seeing those Portuguese Tarts stare at me. Dessert? I shouldn't, but fine! They were so creamy with the perfectly roasted top and thin crust. I also had an order of their Hong Kong Style Milk Tea, and it was amazing, exactly like I had tasted straight from Hong Kong. Service as you could expect, was fast and efficient. Quick in, quick out.

Yelp
Easy fast casual Chinese BBQ and dim sum spot with a sizable sit down area with multiple tables and some high tops. You get a number and can sit down while your number is called over the speaker. I loved the crispy pork belly and the soup dumplings are great. Cleaning staff is very kind and helpful. Utensils are hidden in drawers in the back below the sauce bar.

Yelp
I really love wontons and when I'm in Manhattan, I stop here for some big, plump, and juicy wontons. The skin is silky soft and the filling is flavorful and "crunchy." These are shrimp and pork dumplings and the ratio of shrimp to pork is about 50/50. I also very much enjoy the cold chicken. It's shredded and well marinated. The menu here is nostalgic Cantonese and they do it very well. I've had the siu mai and bao buns in the past and they are also good, but I always go back to my favorite wontons. Service is fast. Casual. They have a big dine in space. Please come and create your own adventure.

Yelp
A solid stop for affordable and tasty dim sum. I tried the crispy pork belly over rice, duck puffs, and egg tarts. The pork belly is excellent; the skin is perfectly crispy, and the bowl is finished off nicely with pickles and an egg. The duck puffs were something new; similar to taro puffs in texture but with a duck filling. The egg tarts were a pleasant surprise-- very tasty and individually wrapped for convenience. Service is quick and straightforward; this is take-out dim sum. You place your order at the counter and wait for it to be prepared. One thing to note: no water is provided if you choose to dine in. While the flavors aren't extraordinary, they're consistently good, and the prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
Genuinely not bad at all for a Times Square eat. I feel like the food near Times Square is always overpriced and not great but Dim Sum Sam was actually quite good. We got here for a weekday dinner and we were able to get a table quickly after placing our order. I ordered the Roast Duck Noodle Soup and it was quite good. I liked the rich broth paired with the Hong Kong style noodles. The duck also had the subtle sweetness to it although some parts were not super tender. I didn't care much for the vegetables in the dish. It was a solid noodle soup. Overall, not a bad eat at all especially if you're in the area. Something I thought was weird was that they placed a NYC sales tax on all the food which I feel like I haven't seen elsewhere. It seemed to be the same type of tax that you would get for buying clothes.

Yelp
While enroute to my hotel after picking up my bib number and t-shirt for NYRR United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, this Dim Sum Sam instantly caught my eye as I walked down 40th Avenue towards my hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York Times Square West. As much as I love pizza, Dim Sum Sam was something different yet still a convenient option for a quick bite like the many pizza options in the surrounding area. I ended up ordering vegetable spring rolls for takeout which I was deeply satisfied with once I arrived back at my hotel. I had a pleasant ordering experience with this Dim Sum Sam location. And as I indicated, I enjoyed the vegetable spring rolls ordered. I would surely visit again whenever staying in the area. ~Have courage. Be Kind. ~ Thomas G

Yelp
It is hard to find authentic dim sum, Chinese bakery/eatry esque food in non-Chinatown areas. This is their 3rd location, there are another one at 23rd St and another one in Chinatown. This spot hits the spot with its decent spread of offerings such as fresh soy milk (hot or cold), steamed rice rolls with many types of fillings and various kind of congees, etc. I love their steamed seafood rice rolls, plenty of shrimps and scallops in there. Same with their seafood congee, it is piping hot every time, and you have to get it with fried dough (youtiao), perfect pairing with any congee or soy milk. Their Portuguese egg tart is so buttery and creamy, I had it delivered, and it was still hot as if it was packed right after it came out of the oven.

Yelp
Do you want dim sum and take it on the go? This is the spot for you. It's a fast casual dim sum spot. So they have the food in to go boxes, which makes it easier to grab and go. They have some seats in the back, so we opted to dine in. So our steamed food are in the usual bamboo containers. Even though, the spot is located in Midtown West and it's more of a grab and go spot, I was pleased with the dim sums. The buns were warm and fluffy & the crispy pork belly had a good crunch. We ordered: Crispy Pork Belly White Rice Spicy Cucumber Duck Spring Roll Scallion Pancake Pan Fried Pork and Chive Dumpling Crispy Pork Bun Shrimp Dumpling Sui Mai BBQ Pork Bun Juicy Pork Dumpling Juicy Pork and Crabmeat Dumpling Sweet Egg Yolk Bun Seafood Rice Noodle Roll Even though, we ordered so much food, if you split the bill amongst friends, the bill isn't too bad.

Yelp
Was craving soup noodle on a freezing cold day so decided to stop it. It's a fast casual restaurant where you order at the counter and then sit in the back. I got the two meats noodle soup with wonton and roast pork while my friend got the wonton noodle soup. The wontons were huge and succulent with snappy shrimp and savory pork. The roast pork was so tender and fatty and melt in your mouth! I did wish it was saltier but that could be due to it sitting in the soup. The noodles were also cooked perfectly and the veggies have a good crunch and freshness with all the meat. A perfect place to stop by for a quick lunch in midtown!

Yelp
This place has good bones; the capacity to be an amazing Chinese food experience. However it misses the mark a bit. First the good: the location near Times Square is PERFECT for drawing in tourists. In fact while I was there I saw two groups of tourists arrive. The price - for a restaurant near Times Square - is actually very reasonable. It's a clean and spacious space. Second the mediocre: while the space is clean, it's so bright and so white that it feels like a high school cafeteria. It doesn't feel like a restaurant serving home cooked meals. It feels cold and anesthetic. The food itself is a hit or miss. Half of our meal was absolutely delicious, the other half was just okay. For example the shumai felt as if they had been frozen and microwaved. However the duck was delicious. Third the bad: customer service. There was not a single smile by any employee in the place. Service felt robotic. A tourist in front of me commented to the cashier about his best dim sum experience in Hong Kong and she didn't even acknowledge him. A small formality but definitely makes a difference. This place needs some tweaking to become a really good restaurant.
google avatar

Melanie W.

Yelp
It's not bad for an affordable Asian quick spot. It will be my go-to place instead of Awesome DimSum, which is around the corner. It's a nice place for congee, dim sum, or noodle soup in the morning instead of having a sandwich and/or bagel for breakfast.
google avatar

Julia B.

Yelp
Casual place to get Dim Sum. We were handed a menu when we told them we wanted to dine in. The seating is limited. We live in Minnesota and traveled to New York. The prices were very relative. We stayed at the Riu, so we walked a few blocks off Time Square (out of the crowds). Self serve sauce station. For "quick" dim sum, we were quite impressed.
google avatar

Lise M.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. The pepper steak was undercooked, and the egg roll was beyond horrible--I almost threw up. It was a really unpleasant experience overall.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
Great quick spot for time square. It's decent dim sum for the area and the fast casualness of it all. The duck was not good though, everything else was yummy. Good came out in line 8 mins. Barely waited. The only gave one napkin which is odd.
google avatar

Alanna V.

Yelp
Good for late night dim sum in the area. Scratches the itch and lots of open space. Pretty fast delivery. A bit pricey but considering the time and place, it was decent. I'd come back if I was looking for dim sum near midnight
google avatar

Erik C.

Yelp
This place is meh, nothing grand. It was close by to where we were, so we gave it a chance, the food wasn't horrible but was not good either. The soup (BBQ Roast Duck Noodle Soup & Shrimp and Pork Wonton Soup) was very bland (no flavor at all) and service is what you would expect for a place near Time Square. The best thing we tried was the duck pastries, crispy pork belly and spring rolls, everything else was below mediocre. For the amount of money, it was not worth it at all and we will not return, so many other great places to try. Best to hit up Chinatown, which isn't too far from this place.
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
We didn't know that this place had no table service. Intent was to have an early birthday lunch with coworkers but ended up individually ordering and bringing our own food back to our tables, which there were plenty in the back. In the back, there's a sauce station that has soy sauce, sriracha, hot oil, etc. along with utensils. At the front, you order at the register and wait for your number to get called. I ordered the shrimp and pork wonton noodle soup along with a whole roasted duck to share with my coworkers. There were 6 wontons and they were huge. It's so worth the price, tbh. The shrimp dumplings (har gow) were also big and tasty (and my fave). The duck was a bit too oily for me but the crispy pork belly was delish. Would def be back for a quick lunch or to get dim sum delivered.
google avatar

Jonghan L.

Yelp
Yummy food. Great location. No frills. Gets the job done. Like the shrimp dumplings. Highly recommend

Yelp
TLDR: You can get authentic Cantonese BBQ meats, wonton noodles, dim sum, etc. by Port Authority & Times Square. Need I say more. The BBQ meats is what's up here and do NOT sleep on the Portuguese egg tart. I was curious when I had heard this spot opened. Found myself in the area and gave it a go. This place gets PACKED at lunch and for good reason. They're not quiet as dim sum focused as Awesum Dim Sum but they have the classics. The real move here is the BBQ meats over rice. The roast pork speciifcally is popular, they even have a lunch set that comes with the aforementioned unmissable egg tart and a drink! For $16.95, yes - it's pricier than Chinatown but then sure, go down to Chinatown to get it a bit cheaper and make it back within an hour. :D The day I went, we went kinda nuts. Rice rolls are decent but I think you can get better elsewhere. Wontons were solid but again - the meats are the wow deal here. I would recommend splurging a bit more to get a combo. That roast pig was RIGHT. Fatty, tender, crispy, all in one bite. HK Milk Tea was excellent. If I'm back in the area, BBQ Meat Combo over Rice, Portuguese Egg Tart and some Canto iced drink. You're welcome.
google avatar

Waltaya C.

Yelp
I love me some dim sum. Sam is so good. The combo plate with the crispy pork belly and the duck. It is my favorite.
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
Authentic Cantonese cuisine according to my Hong Kong born lunch mate. The wonton soup broth was light and savory. The wonton was thin and filled with pawns and pork. It was absolutely delicious!!!! The beef rice rolls, I would give a 4 out of 5, not because it wasn't tasty, it really was. However I'm comparing it to Joe's Rice Rolls which has been by far the best. Their chili oil deserves an award. Omg it was the perfect degree of hot and the taste is like non other I've had so far.. and trust me I've had my share of chili oils. The other dishes smelled heavenly, the duck, bbq pork and pork belly smelled and looked delightful. I'll definitely return to try the other dishes.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
Came again but for lunch time! They had special deals with bbq pork over rice. I ended up getting their duck soup again. However, My friends got their spicy cucumbers, crispy pork belly, and congee. Their portions are large, especially for their congee and soups if you dine in! - Spicy Cucumber: lovely crunch. Delicious as a side dish that pairs well with the heavy pork belly - Crispy Pork belly: salty and full of flavor and fats. It's a heavier dish but a must. Get something refreshing to eat with it. Would order again especially if I'm craving something meaty - Congee: surprisingly had some flavor! Eat with the hot sauce. There is no self serve water station here but they'll happily give you cups of water!

Yelp
Dim Sum Sam is a popular spot in New York City known for serving traditional Cantonese dim sum in a casual, modern setting. It has three main locations: Flatiron (28 E 23rd St), Times Square (240 W 40th St), and FiDi (123 William St). The restaurant is praised for its fresh, handmade dim sum, with standout dishes like shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, and roast duck over rice. The minimalist vibe, combined with a made-to-order approach, ensures a fresh and flavorful experience. The roasted duck egg middle soup was good. The cucumber salad was nice. The Siu Mai was yummy. Quick service, self service, clean spot, and nice folks here.
google avatar

Joshua E.

Yelp
I must admit I come here very often because of its location. The cha siu, the siu mai, and the wonton noodle soup are all solid but the rice roll noodle was very bad. I also had a customer service issue once where I ordered for the wrong day but they accomodated my request. The price value isn't exactly there but because I don't need to travel all the way to chinatown, i'm willing to spend a little extra to get a solid product.
google avatar

Simon C.

Yelp
Authentic Cantonese fast-food styled restaurant in a surprisingly clean and efficient setting opposite the entrance to Port Authority.
google avatar

Gabriella S.

Yelp
There is a reason why this location has high reviews. You get a free drink if you give a review before you even eat here. Tables are sticky and dirty on arrival, napkins are not easily attainable, food tastes microwaved (the roast pork especially tastes tough and old), and I've gotten food poisoning from here. Liquid shit will come out of your butt. Don't come here.
google avatar

Elsa B.

Yelp
This spot has figured out my taste preferences perfectly. The environment feels thoughtfully welcoming. Their dishes are carefully crafted. The menu has something for everyone and staff who truly help. I like this spot thoroughly.
google avatar

Jillian L.

Yelp
I went to grab lunch with someone during work and this place popped up. Despite being rush lunch hour, they were quick to take our order and give us our food. There was plenty of seating in the back and self-service for sauces, chopsticks, spoons and forks. They also displayed the order numbers that were ready so you don't need to stand in the front. We ordered 2 rice bowls with pork, and they were delicious and filling. I had leftovers for dinner because it was so much food.
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
Came by the other day and it was a decent experience. Dim Sum Sam is located on 40th in between 7th and 8th. They have numerous additional outposts as full service restaurants along with Awe Sum Dim Sum around the corner on 8th. Dim Sum Sam is an order-at the-counter fast casual with a huge dining room in the back. They serve roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, bbq pork, roasted pork belly, wonton noodle soup, congee along with dim sum. Had the beef rice noodle roll for breakfast and it was made to order. The rice noodles were chewy al dente and the beef was tasty. Came back for lunch for their 2 item combo with the roast duck and wonton noodle soup and it was also tasty. The roast duck was quite lean with mainly skin and very little meat. There were 8 or so pieces. The wontons were tasty and meaty with tons of flavorful pork. The wonton noodles were al dente and the pork bone broth was flavorful. Their hot milk tea less sweet was strong too. ~$20/head after tax for lunch

Yelp
At least from a to go experience - pretty good dim sum given the price/Midtown Port Authority location. I tried Dim Sum Sam one morning when I was in the area and got the PORK & 1000 YEARS EGG CONGEE and the ROAST PORK NOODLE ROLL to go. There was an OK amount of space inside and it had a clean and minimal look. The staff were efficient and nice. As for food, the congee hit the spot. Portion was nice and there was a good amount of pork and century egg. The rice noodle roll was fine and I appreciated how it came with a little bok choy. All in all, tasty dim sum and not bad option if in the area.
google avatar

Eleanor Elaine C.

Yelp
Hargow was acceptable. Shrimp friend roll was not very tasty at all. I tried to pour as much plum sauce on it but it's really not salty at all. The siomai was the biggest win of all the food I ate there.
google avatar

Yelp
Check your credit card statement after! I got double charged for my order... The lady made me swipe my credit card twice after it looked like it went through the first time. Staff was pretty rude, but the food was good.

Yelp
I grew up in NJ and used to go to NYC for Cantonese food and dim sum almost every weekend growing up. Now I'm a Cali adult, and boy do I miss NYC Chinese food. Recently, a work trip allowed me to stay in NUC for two weeks, and I thought I would hit Chinatown every night. Well, Uber Eats allowed me to discover Dim Sum Sam. I love this place! The food is legit. The price is not bad. And they are open til midnight! Ding ding ding, winner winner chicken dinner! Well, not chicken... but that is besides the point. My go to here is the bbq pork over rice. Yummy! I ask for extra soy sauce because... it's freakin' good! Also, the Portuguese egg tarts is a must have. I don't know how they always seem to be fresh and warm and delicious! I brought some from NYC back to Cali, and it was still delicious! I really miss Dim Sum Sam now. Perhaps I can interest them in opening a franchise restaurant in San Jose?
google avatar

TaNeisha J.

Yelp
I had take out from Dim Sum Sam. I love Wonton Noodle Soup, and Dim Sum Sam delivered. During my recent visit to New York, I wanted wonton noodle soup before my trip back to DC, and this place left me satisfied. I think I order Wonton Noodle Soup enough to taste the different complexities of the wonton and broth. The pork and shrimp wonton at this establishment was AMAZING! The wonton was so filling. I think partly because they used whole shrimp instead of grinding them and filling the wonton. I would have preferred for the broth to have a bit more spice to it, but you can't always have everything! Dim Sum Sam...I'm visiting again when I make another trip to NYC.
google avatar

Dianna N.

Yelp
This is basically a fast food dim sum establishment. None of that is clear when you enter. The cashier was rude and would say very little when we asked several times how dining in worked. She could have had a bad day or there was some kind of language barrier. After placing our order we're given a number and then sat ourselves. Pan Fried Pork & Chives Dumplings and Portuguese Egg Tarts were our favorite. Shrimp Dumplings, Shu Mai, and Roast Pork Rice Noodle Roll was just good but not as delicious.
google avatar

Kenneth M.

Yelp
Dim sum sam rarely misses. Food is priced well in midtown area. The baked buns are alright. I like their beef stews. I tried all their congees at this point. Most were good but the fish one is a bit off imo. If you want white pepper, you will need to ask the workers in the front as you won't find them at the self serve counters at the back. The interior is clean and bright. It also has plenty of seatings why am I giving a three-star??? I found some steel wool in my food the last time I got take out.

Yelp
Best Chinese BBQ in the city! Sweet juicy tender!! Unbeatable!! Authentic Cantonese style lunch spot, where you do not have to get deliveries all the way from Chinatown. Their bbq pork , roasted duck, roasted pork, soy sauce chicken are their specialties, many of them are even much better than what you can find in Chinatown. And many of my Cantonese friends agree. If you order during lunch hour, please allow yourself more time before picking them up.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time here at Dim Sum Sam. The food is super fresh and delicious. The service is also very attentive, professional and diligent. The ambiance is also very cute and pleasant. 5 stars.

Yelp
The fish congee was fine. The congee itself was good but the texture of the fish was not my favorite. It was hard/elastic versus flakey, which is just not my favorite. The wonton noodle soup was fine as well. The HK tea and soy milk were also both fine. Nothing was bad but nothing was amazing but we also did not try any dim sum items, which is what they are more known for.

Yelp
Classic Dumplings, hot sauce is perfect. Pork belly is a little dry, but all in all very good. Place is a little disheveled. But service is fast and efficient

Yelp
Got the crispy pork belly over rice and it was perfection. Enough meat to make me feel full for the whole day (for less than $15). The skin was thin and SUPER crispy, and the sweet-savory flavor on the sauce paired wonderfully with the fatty pork and rice. Bowl came with pickle, sautéed bokchoy, and a marinated soft-boiled egg. Definitely coming back sometime.

Yelp
Very meh... made for a western palette - a little too sweet and not enough garlic. The dumplings were fine but tasted like they came frozen (a little tough); the ducks was not flavorful. A little bland.
