The Best Dishes Eater Chicago Editors Ate in September 2025 | Eater Chicago

"In Lincoln Park, this new Italian spot has quickly become one of the hottest destinations for red‑sauce classics and tavern‑style pies. I went for the tried‑and‑true sausage pizza and it did not disappoint: a cracker‑thin crust — among the thinnest I’ve ever had — with each slice layered in sweet tomato sauce and chunks of pork sausage, then finished with parmesan grated tableside. Scoring a table here isn’t easy, but the payoff is well worth it." - Jeffy Mai

Dimmi Dimmi Corner Italian Is Worth the Wait | Eater Chicago

"A laid-back neighborhood spot that works for just about any occasion, this packed Lincoln Park Italian newcomer from Cornerstone Restaurant Group has quickly become one of the toughest tables in town since debuting in August. On a Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., I found the dining room full: families (kids on iPads), groups of friends, and couples tucked into two-person booths along an exposed brick wall, with staff marking birthdays with a celebratory dessert; music stayed low, but the lighting was dim enough that one patron used a phone flashlight to read the menu. The bar, where I sat, is first come, first served with little space to wait—I awkwardly hovered by the host stand and the area grew congested as parties stacked up. Executive chef Matt Eckfeld’s menu showcases red-sauce classics and tavern-style pizza: baked clams casino arrive nine to an order, nestled in their shells under a spicy breadcrumb-and-bacon crust that benefits from a squeeze of lemon, and a Chicago spin shows up in Italian beef–style carpaccio dressed with giardiniera, shaved Parmesan, and beef jus aioli. The pizzas are paper-thin tavern-style; every piece of my sausage pie had a hunk of pork on it, and there’s also a vodka-sauce pie with sweet onions, ’nduja, and Calabrian chile—I nearly finished an entire pizza myself and those with big appetites should be able to do the same. Drinks lean Italian, from a Calabrian dirty martini with an ’nduja–gorgonzola–stuffed olive and an amaro sour to a particularly fine negroni made with Gran Bassano Rosso; wines are mostly Italian, and amaro and grappa await for a digestif. It has the spirit of a neighborhood restaurant but, judging by the crowds and buzz, it’s attracting a much wider audience; tavern-style pizza lovers will be pleased, though you’ll need to plan weeks ahead for a reservation, and even bar walk-ins should expect a wait." - Jeffy Mai

Dimmi Dimmi Corner Italian - Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Dimmi Dimmi is a charming, busy-but-not-hectic Italian spot on a quiet corner of Lincoln Park. It's perfect for nights out with a bottle of pinot, crunchy mozzarella sticks, and the occasional highchair. And it’s the kind of place that’s full of big booths and longtime brownstone owners from up the street begging for more parmesan. Dimmi Dimmi’s Italian dishes are pretty good overall, but the tavern-style pizzas are why this spot is more than just a nice addition to the neighborhood. It has a strong cracker crust that holds up to a heavy amount of cheese and sweet tomato sauce. Just know that because this place is busy, start looking for reservations at least a week in advance. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE" - Nick Allen

Take a Tour of Dimmi Dimmi Corner Italian in Lincoln Park | Eater Chicago

"A fresh splash of red sauce lands in Lincoln Park with this Italian American spot, bringing Italian dining back to the corner of Armitage and Seminary. Executive chef Matt Eckfeld, previously with New York’s Major Food Group at Carbone, Contessa, and ZZ’s Club, nods to classic red-sauce joints while adding modern twists: carpaccio comes Italian beef–style with thin rare slices layered with giardiniera, beef jus aioli, and Parmesan alongside sesame sourdough; hamachi crudo gets a kick from almond chili crisp; and raviolo “saltimbocca” is stuffed with guanciale, topped with prosciutto, and finished in white wine butter sauce. Pizzas are unmistakably Chicago, served tavern-style with staples like pepperoni and sausage plus creative combos such as vodka sauce with sweet onions or mushrooms with garlic cream. The focaccia is a highlight, bubbling hot from a cast-iron skillet with optional dips like buffalo ricotta with honey and eggplant caponata. Pastry chef Casey Doody rounds things out with tiramisu, affogato, and a rich, decadent buttermilk chocolate cake, and chicken parm is on the menu. Drinks span a barrel-aged negroni, dirty and hazelnut espresso martinis, a lineup of spritzes and nonalcoholic concoctions, and post-meal pours of amaro and grappa. Open 4–9 p.m. Tuesday–Thursday, 4–10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3–9 p.m. Sunday, the team aims to make this a neighborhood staple for family-style meals and great food." - Jeffy Mai

Dimmi Dimmi Corner Italian Is Coming to Lincoln Park | Eater Chicago

"Planned for 1112 W. Armitage Avenue with a late July–early August opening, this Cornerstone Restaurant Group project aims to retain longtime neighborhood diners while attracting new ones. Executive chef Matt Eckfeld—who split roughly 13 years between his Bucktown and West Loop concepts and spent nearly 12 years with Major Food Group’s Italian-American brands—plans a menu of house-made pastas, seasonal vegetables, sandwiches and well-crafted focaccia, with produce sourced from nearby Green City Market when in season. Former Boka pastry chef Casey Doody will handle desserts, including gelato and cakes, and the kitchen is promising familiar, approachable Italian-American fare rather than overly fussy plating." - Ashok Selvam

This place has a great vintage cozy vibe with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. We sat at the bar and had excellent service the whole night. The focaccia with the relish tray was fresh with a nice balance of sweet and savory. The Dimmi Salad was light and refreshing, and the polenta was rich and creamy. The Hamachi Crudo Diavolo was fresh and flavorful, and the vodka pizza had the perfect thin, crispy, chewy texture. The chicken parmesan was crispy and tasty, and I took the Orecchiette Tarantino to go based on the bartender’s recommendation, which was a great call. The hazelnut espresso martinis were a highlight. Smooth and foamy with just the right touch of sweetness and nuttiness, and they even offer a decaf option. We finished with the chocolate cake, which had layers of chocolate mousse and a light crunch from the crispies, a great way to cap off the meal. Overall, really good food, great drinks, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere. I’d definitely come back.

Such a delicious spot! We got the sesame focaccia, Caesar salad, gnudi, and cheese pizza. Everything was delicious! I will say the portions were a little smaller than expected (for the salad and gnudi especially) but taste was 10/10 on everything. Our server Ronni was also amazing and so nice! We will definitely be back!!

Great choice if you enjoy chili oil or simply want to feel something again. A surprising amount of the menu is spice-forward—fantastic for heat-seekers, slightly limiting if you, like me, prefer your meals without the threat of perspiration. The pizzas looked popular, which is usually a good sign that they will not attack you. The Calabrian Dirty Martini was… creative. Tomato-forward, almost like someone asked, “What if a martini wanted to be a gazpacho?” Admirable effort, not for me, but I’m sure there’s an audience somewhere. The Dimmi Spritz, on the other hand, is light, refreshing, and doesn’t raise existential questions. Broccoli Rabe & Fagioli: proof that vegetables can, in fact, taste good—should you insist on ordering them. Chicken Parmesan: enormous, very good, and large enough to feed a family of four or one person in denial. Spicy Vodka Stuffed Shells: delicious, but very much another episode of “Everything Everywhere All at Once, featuring Chili Oil.” Dessert is where the place really shines. The chocolate cake is huge and very good, but let’s be honest—the gelato with chocolate crunchies is the true scene-stealer. The Hazelnut Espresso Martini is a great lighter option if you want dessert without committing to “cake for dinner.” In short: come for the spice, stay for the portions, and maybe skip the martini that thinks it’s a tomato.

Google
Dimmi Dimmi is 10s across the board. The hazelnut espresso martini was perfect - not too sweet. I am an avid mozzarella stick enthusiast and these past the test - cheese pull and flavoring was divine. They served some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had and the pizza was the perfect consistency. Our server, Madison, was wonderful and took excellent care of us. Dimmi Dimmi is a must try.

The atmosphere is amazing, complemented by excellent service and delicious food. We started with baked clams, meatballs, Italian beef carpaccio with giardiniera, and mozzarella sticks with perfect pull. We also enjoyed sausage and fungi bianco pizzas with a thin, crispy crust. The pasta dishes were outstanding too; the Gnudi Pomodoro with sheep's milk ricotta was possibly the best, and the Orecchiette Tarantino was perfectly seasoned with homemade sausage. Next time, we are coming back to try the main menu, just appetizers and shareables this time, and end with a double espresso, chocolate cake, and tiramisu. Can't wait to come back.

Google
Dimmi Dimmi, a thoughtful take on modern neighborhood Italian! With refreshing twists on the classics and a mastery of the staples, all while welcoming you like family; Dimmi Dimmi knocks it out of the park. We were privileged enough to be invited to a friends and family event, so while some things may change overtime, I believe the essentials will stay the same; a customer focused hip Neighbourhood spot with a fantastic menu, refreshing cocktails, and phenomenal staff. We first enjoyed the Hazelnut Espresso Martini and the Ruby Manhattan for drinks. They were balanced nicely and the chocolate-hazelnut addition to the espresso martini was superb! For starters, we enjoyed the Caesar Salad and the Focaccia with ricotta and honey. We were particularly impressed with the Hamachi Crudo as it was very fresh with quality fish that you could taste and was quite spicy! For our next course we ordered the Stuffed Shells and the Meatballs. Both were knockouts! The Meatballs were so tender and perfectly cooked! I’ve never seen Stuffed Shells on a menu before, they are a family favorite! Loved this! We also got the Salmon Vesuvio and crispy potatoes. The Vesuvio sauce was velvety and smooth, the salmon cooked perfectly! The Crispy Potatoes were executed perfectly, crispy outside, soft inside, with a good kick of heat! We ended with the chocolate cake! This cake was incredible! Velvety soft, rich and decadent, the vanilla gelato really finishes this last bite quite nicely! Overall, the menu is fantastic and hats off to the entire culinary team! Service was always quick and very friendly. Lots of table touches from all staff! Ronni, our main server, was phenomenal. She felt like an old friend even though we had just met. I was incredibly impressed by her knowledge, kindness and ability to stay composed on such a momentous first night of service! Bravo to her!

Google
Every detail here is so thoughtfully done. The space is cozy and beautifully designed. I’m obsessed with the cocktails. I’m obsessed. So well made and this is the kind of place where each one comes in a different, fun glass. We ordered family-style and loved every single dish. The hand-pulled mozzarella sticks were light and airy (never thought I’d call a mozzarella stick “elegant,” but here we are). The focaccia was perfect, and the new squash salad was perfect! We also had the thin-crust pizza, an eggplant Parmesan that was more like eggplant lasagna, and a chicken Parm with a pesto-pasta twist. All fantastic. For dessert we had tiramisu, olive oil gelato, and an affogato. Way too much food but we learned that even the leftovers are incredible. Such a warm, delicious, memorable experience. Can’t wait to go back!

My family and I had the pleasure of visiting Dimmi Dimmi last month on our first visit to Chicago. It was probably one of the best dining experience I have ever had. We wanted to explore the local food scene in Chicago away from the tourist area. Chicago has many neighborhoods and Dimmi Dimmi is located in the beautiful Lincoln Park area. Super family-friendly, clean, and safe. As a foodie, the Executive Chef Matt Eckfield, trained in NYC kitchens like Carbone and he's back to open his first solo spot with CRG in Lincoln Park. We knew right away we wanted to jump on this opportunity and took the 4:30PM reservation on a Wednesday night. We got there a little early before the restaurant had opened and one of the staff came out and invited us in early so that we didn't have to be out in the windy weather. I had both my grade school children with me so as a parent, I really appreciated the kind gesture. Talking about first impression! We then got seated in a booth and was immediately blown away with the decorations in the restaurant. It had a bit of a classic Italian modern feel to it and you just immediately felt right at home! We ordered the following: Sesame Focaccia - you must order the ricotta and honey! It's only right if you have it with the ricotta and honey. Italia Beef Carpaccio - it melts in your mouth like butter. The giardiniera adds so much flavor and balance everything out. Pepperoni Pizza - deep dish style=NO, tavern style=YES! Imagine paper thin crust with top of the line cheese and pepperoni. What a treat! Salmon Vesuvio - Heaven on earth. The salmon was cooked to perfection, not to well down just perfect. The sauce balance the flavor and was so buttery. Out of this world delicious. Rigatoni Amatriciana with a side of meatball - STAR of the show. It looks so simple and plain pasta with red sauce. You're wrong! The guanciale adds so much flavor that it was hands down one of the best Italian bite/dish I have ever had in my life. Dimmi Dimmi is why Chicago is on the map of good cuisine. I'm not exaggerating. If you want good food, not in the tourist area downtown riverwalk, then run (don't walk) to Dimmi Dimmi in Lincoln Park. Cherry on top, Chef Bill Kim and Danny McGowan, both CRG leadership team came out and spoke to our family. As a family of 4, we were too full for dessert and decided to skip it. The team ended up giving us a shot of lemoncello and sorbet as a courtesy thank you for dining with us. I felt like I knew the staff and the team personally. The service was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful experience, Dimmi Dimmi. Sending love from The Stanford Family in Atlanta. We will definitely see you again and highly recommend Dimmi Dimmi to other foodies out there.

Yelp
We loved the ambiance as soon as we walked in. They did a great job! The food was very delicious. To top everything else off, the service was fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly, professional, and extremely efficient. Service can make or break a meal. In our case, Ronni H was fantastic. Her suggestions were spot on! We will definitely be back. I look forward to next year when the patio is open!

Jenny T.

Yelp
Great ambience, food and cocktails! We got the focaccia, sausage, lobster and chocolate cake. All of it was excellent! Not a single bad bite. Can't wait to go back and try more off their menu.

Yelp
12/10 experience. Food was all top tier and the service (Alee) was even better. Caesar - 4.5/5.0 - Can't go wrong with a Caesar salad. This one was well dressed and had extra hints of lemon. Quality. Hamachi Crudo - 5.0/5.0 - They basically do a chili crisp with Calabrian chiles. Not overly spicy or overpowering. Great, clean dish. Clams Casino - 5.0/5.0 - SoooooOoO good. If you're someone who doesn't like smoky flavors you should probably skip this one. It has great smoky notes from the bacon and the crumb is soaked in clam liquor. Fresh lemon over the top - I can eat 2 dozen of these alone. Pizza - 5.0/5.0 - I'd put it up in the tier with some of the best tavern style pizzas in the city (Middlebrow, Pizzamici, etc). Maybe not better but easily as good. Orecchiette with Sausage - 4.5/5.0 - Really good spicy tomato cream sauce with homemade large orecchiette. It's incredibly craveable. Ribeye Cacciatore - 5.0/5.0 - Mushroom powder crusted delmonico. Tons of umami and you need the tomatoes and peppers to provide some acid to this rich dish. The sauce is incredible. Could've used a sprinkle of flaky salt to finish but overall an unreal dish. We're locals so we will be back. Make the resy if you can get it. If you can't put your name in for the bar where it's first come first serve. Cheers!

Yelp
Ohh! This used to be Taratino's that was here for 30 years. Remember that! This is from the people that's behind Urban Belly, Michael Jordan Steakhouse, Sol Toro in Connecticut and etc. I had their fries. The staff and service are dimmiriffic. I'll be back for dessert. PS. I was the first one to review!

Yelp
Oh Dimmi your so fine your so fine you blow my mind. Oh Dimmi. Every neighborhood in Chicago should have a Dimmi and at one point might. Cool space great well trained staff. Lets get real it about the food and we had an exceptional meal Proper cocktail to start with one of the best blue cheese olives I've ever had. Dimmi salad and the clams were first rate. Gnudi pasta was the best pasta dish I've had in Chicago. I've had a lot Deserts were also great. I would like a weekly standing reservation???????? Shout out to the chefs we all know Bill Kim can cook but who knew he could kill it in the Italian style. Continued success!!!! P.S. Roscoe Village needs a Dimmi Dimmi

Yelp
Get every single thing you can here. I had the BEST experience ever! The best chef, the nicest waitresses and bar tenders. Every food item was AMAZING! The sauces to every single dish were mouth watering. I will be coming back probably once a month I love this place so much. even basic things like mozzarella sticks were elevated. I recommend getting a reservation because they seem to get busy, but the energy inside is wonderful. 100/10 place

Yelp
TL; DR: Great drinks and Italian food Great place to have some solid cocktails and yummy Italian food. The drinks were top notch and the food was just enough to fill your tummy without being too full. The Vespa was a great spirit forward drink and the Hugo Spritz was refreshing. The focaccia with honey and ricotta was delicious. The vodka pizza could be shared or a solo meal that will fill you up without needing a nap. The vodka stuffed shells was delicious. The place was very friendly and buzzing with a lot of people. I cannot wait to go back and try more items

Yelp
Amazing! Food and service on point. Very inviting with the feel of a neighborhood spot with comforting Italian food that is definitely elevated. Everything our group had was phenomenal. Blows other Chicago-Italian restaurants out of the water. So happy to have a Lincoln Park spot. Fresh and bright seasonal ingredients. Eggplant parm the best! Definitely try the polenta, mozzarella sticks, panzanella salad, meatballs, cavatelli, and EVERY dessert. Run to this place!!!

Jane S.

Yelp
We found this place on a recent trip to Chicago and a 20 minute brisk walk from the Lincoln Park Zoo and what a find! It was full but my daughter and I scored two seats at the bar. We started with the focaccia and olive oil, freshly baked, and the panzella salad - also delicious. My daughter is dairy free so ordered the AGLIO E OLIO PEPERONCINO (garlic shrimp and pasta) and I had the best eggplant parmigiana I have ever eaten with a nice glass of the Routestock Cabernet Sauvignon. The bartender (whose name I didn't catch) had great suggestions for our meals and was so knowledgeable and friendly. The portions are generous so we had leftovers. Wonderful experience - hope to come back in my next visit!

Yelp
Very good. The relish tray with foccacia is worth every penny. Best foccacia I've ever eaten. Food was excellent and service great. Highly recommend.

Jakob L.

Yelp
Excellent meal, and a very well put together menu where each course and style is broken down smartly. Alexandra was a great waitress and made sure we had an enjoyable meal! Especially liked the focaccia trio, chicken parm, and the tiramisu. Will be back!

Ray S.

Yelp
Great new Lincoln Park spot. The service and staff were incredible. The food is outstanding as well. The chicken parm is destined to be one of the top in the city. Great cocktails too!

Al H.

Yelp
I rarely give five stars but this place fired on all cylinders. Pleasant staff, great decor and table spacing, nice established vibe and excellent food. We enjoyed the focaccia, pizza vodka, and chicken parmigiana the most with deliciously prepared branzino among many dishes we tried. The chicken was probably the best CP I've had with a perfectly cooked thin schnitzel and great sauce. The chocolate cake was too good to pass and none, including crumbs, was left on the plate. Definitely will return!

Bridget O.

Yelp
The food was incredible. Very fresh ingredients. The Caesar salad dressing and cheese was great, the Crutons are incredible, locally sourced from Publican. The eggplant Parmesan is unlike any I've ever had before. The bartenders were so kind. The manager(?) owner(?) was walking around greeting everyone. Wonderful experience. Will definitely be trying the pizza next time!

Megan K.

Yelp
Yasmeen was amazing! Dad said it's the best pizza he ever had. Delicious food. Ricotta pasta, stuffed shells. So good. Give it a try!

Carson G.

Yelp
Overall, for being open for only a week i had a very pleasant experience. We went with the focaccia with ricotta, Caesar salad, and sausage pizza. The food was a solid 8/10 but with time i think it has the potential to get better. Very good service and ambiance though!

Hanna M.

Yelp
5 Star for both food and service. We ordered: Focaccia bread with ricotta and honey, Dimmi salad, Funghi Bianco Pizza and the spicy vodka stuffed shell pasta. All amazing specially the bread and pasta. Server was very nice. Service was fast and complementary limoncello at the end of the meal was a nice touch to end a perfect dining experience!

Matt B.

Yelp
The service was fantastic. We sat at the bar and had a terrific meal. I would HIGHLY suggest the pizza, salads and gnudi.

Michael V.

Yelp
Great new restaurant! food was amazing! server from Seattle made the evening great had the stuffed shells at her recommendation they were great
