Dimo’s Expands Orbit with Grandeur, Gestalt, and Gooey Cheese | Eater Portland

"Set in the Burnside space that once served as a touchstone of East Burnside’s beer boom and later as the production facility for Fracture Brewing, the tall black grain silo still towers over the parking lot outside, though the brew tanks and hoses within are long gone and the tower now bears small white letters spelling the restaurant’s name. Inside, there’s a full bar, a bakery display case stocked with breads, pizza, and pastries, a small market nook with dry and refrigerated goods ranging from wines to salts, and a spacious dining room with no shortage of chairs, benches, and tables. The operation opened its doors on East Burnside Street officially on July 6 (summer 2025) and is the result of owner Doug Miriello — a Connecticut native who cut his teeth cooking in Los Angeles at Gjelina and Gjusta and who already runs a successful New Haven–style pizza shop next door and has two kids at home under six — deciding to remake the former brewspace into a full restaurant, bar, bakery, deli market, plus a thrice-weekly reservation-only supper club after Fracture ceased operations in 2024. “I want this to be my home,” he says. “I don’t want to do anything else. I want this to be it.” When the reservation-only supper club gets into full swing, the kitchen shifts from a high-end Italian bar menu to full dinner service: four pastas (including gnocchi dressed in lamb-tomato ragu and lasagna verde Bolognese composed of veal, pork, beef, and house-cured salumi) will rotate through the lineup, with whole branzino and pollo al mattone also offered and the operation expecting to complete two dinner services on those evenings. Cocktails are crafted to fit the format — the caprese martini, for example, angles at antipasto and is built on burrata whey, tomato water, and micro-basil clippings plucked from the kitchen’s prep station — and the cocktail program is helmed by Zena Smith, whose stints at Fracture and Cache Cache inform a work that blends mixologist meticulousness with a cook’s curiosity. Smith says she spent the past several months “playing with the flavors of Italy and the flavors of Doug’s food,” leaning into amaros and making the digestif’s “punchy bitterness, layered complexity, and unmistakably Italian profile” the main piece of almost all the cocktails on the menu; of the burrata whey addition she remarks, “I used a little bit of that for that briny saltiness, that lactic acid flavor… almost like zero waste.” Her sbagliato corretto is a Negroni that sees its gin subbed out for sparkling wine (influenced by “King Cocktail” Dale DeGroff), and her espresso martini — one of the few cocktails sans amaro — “evokes biscotti, conjuring the soft crunch of almond cookies dunked in morning coffee, reborn, instead, as a midnight indulgence.” Miriello frames the multi-use concept simply: “I want to be your… whatever you want us to be.” He downplays the difficulties of the nine-month construction and remodeling, conceding “It wasn’t easy to get where we are now, that’s for sure,” but emphasizes that every facet — whether focaccia or Sicilian square — draws from a focused source such as a former kitchen, a childhood memory, or a family recipe, and that if those remain in view the result will feel cohesive rather than scattershot. The local-facing, comfort-forward heart of the menu still makes room for what Miriello says Portland is always after: “The dirtbag stuff.” The purest expression of that impulse is the fonduta burger, a porcini-rubbed patty halved and dunked in a warm and gooey fontina fundata; pairing it with the cacio e pepe fries — peppered, punchy, and perfect for dragging through molten fontina — is presented as a savvy play. The team includes general manager Herb Apon (previously of Loyal Legion), who brings “serious beer fluency,” and assistant general manager Sarah Marshall, who Miriello says “is just going to crush the floor with service.” The location is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday." - Ron Scott

Smash Burgers With a San Francisco Pedigree Are Landing in Downtown Portland | Eater Portland

"Five years into pizza dominance, Dimo’s Apizza is taking over its next-door space to create a new deli/bar concept. Owner Doug Miriello told Oregon Live that the new space will serve as a deli market and bar, and on Fridays through Sundays operate as a “refined white tablecloth supper club.” The planned opening is set for June." - Paolo Bicchieri

This was such a fantastic experience! We didn’t realize it was only Day 2 of the new restaurant part, but this place was special right away. The staff are kind, the space is cozy, and it smelled like good food. I love the family style option, and every single course was delicious. The portions were SLIGHTLY too big for my mom and I, but I wouldn’t have minded if I could’ve taken the leftovers (was heading to the airport). The mozzarella was fresh and warm. The bucatini to die for. Every dish was light. The rainbow trout is unique and crispy. It was an all-around amazing meal. And honestly, really well-priced for the quality of the meal.

Very cool atmosphere inside. High ceilings, dark wood, large bar counter all create a classic style. I shared the Hot Italian and cold Italian (different ingredients) with a friend of mine. They were both delicious and on house made fresh baked bread with sesame seeds. It seems like the menu here may change often, as we came in for the massive French Dip that was no longer available. I’d gladly come here again. It is pricy but very tasty and definitely filling!

Google
Did not disappoint and can’t wait to eat here again. We had the pork raab sandwich, the open face, slice of pepperoni and kale salad. Everything was made with fresh quality ingredients. Portion size was good. Pork raab sandwich had thin sliced meat so easier to eat with the perfect hatch green chile spice! Their pizza is yum and had that nice crisp you’d want from a NY slice!

Google
Amazing family style meal! The take picks one dish from each category and they bring them out for every one to share. All of the dishes we had were delicious and perfectly seasoned. There was so much food!!! The staff was super friendly and helpful. This place is sure to become a staple in the Portland food scene. Chef Doug is doing amazing things here!

Google
What an amazing sub. It was between the Italian or the chicken Caesar sandwich and we split the Italian. It was fantastic. Great balance of bread to filling and the bread had the perfect toast on it with a nice crunch when you bit into it. I would eat this again and again. Just don't stand in the walkway, we got yelled at for some reason instead of just politely asking.

Finally, I have found a grinder that does the east coast justice! As a RI native, I have yet to find a grindahh that comes anywhere near East Coast quality. The Italian grinder at Dimo's will now be a food craving of mine! Crunchy, yet chewy bread crusted in sesame seeds, shredded lettuce, a little spice from some hot peppers, Italian meats, a little herb vinaigrette and aioli- the most perfect bite one could ask for. Also, tried one of their pastries, equally as delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive, the inside had old Portland charm and character. Seriously, can't wait to come back, probably be by next week 😂

Google
I really enjoyed the Italian Grinder and Sicilian pizza. Both delicious and a lot of food. Great space and sunny patio. Friendly service.

To start off I don't leave reviews often only if the establishments suck or they are 5 stars go look at my reviews enough said. Anyway, this place was 5 stars the molment I took the second bite. Spicy eggplant parma was on point. The bread was not to stiff and it was chewy making the sandwich hold up perfectly. The sauce cheese and everything else including the eggplant was fresh and the texture was right. We also got the dulce vita sweet sandwich which was polar oposite but worked so well. It was sweet ,not savory yet it was like the perfect balance where you still feel satisfied. Our order was delivery so I can't say much about the atmosphere or staff but they def no what there doing when making this food.

Yelp
Myself and our party of seven rolled into Dimo's Italian specialties on a random Sunday and were quickly accommodated by the attentive staff. We had left an overcrowded and overhyped restaurant that was not able to get us in for another three hours. After being seated, we decided to order almost the entire menu, except for 3 items at the bottom of it. Our drinks and first plates came out quickly and, after a few bites, we knew we were in for a treat. The salads (Endive Caesar and the Kale + Radicchio) were an instant highlight of the meal. We loved everything in the first two sections, but the pasta is where they really shine. If I was forced to choose favorites, it would be the mind blowing bucatini and deeply savory spaghetti nero. We were ROLLING out of there and did not have any room for dessert - which only means we'll have to return! The only thing this place is missing is a lot more promotion and word of mouth. It's new, but there's no reason it shouldn't be packed on a Sunday. I have high hopes that this place finds its target audience!

Yelp
Dimo's is interesting. Its easiest described as 3 separate concepts: 1. The Pizzeria to the left 2. The Deli and Bakery (same spot) open until 4pm 3. The Supper Club (same location as Deli) 5pm-9pm. I tried #2 and #3. Starting with the Deli/Bakery: I ordered their Italian Grinder, 2 doughnuts (fig and nutella), took home a sesame baguette and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was quite good, nothing stood out. The cookie was dry, a bit overbaked and with teeny tiny chocolate chips (not my preference, I like chunks) but otherwise ok. It will hit the spot in a fix. The doughnuts (i think they call them bonbone?) were ok too. The dough itself was fluffy and nice, but the fig custard filling texture was curdled and a bit mealy. The taste of the filling was good though. The nutella was better but there wasn't quite enough filling. The sesame baguette was good, I enjoyed some sandwiches at home with it, likely my favorite item! The Italian Grinder was solid but not exciting. The dressing had gotten soggy in my 10min drive home. I think if a deli will dress sando's with wet dressings they should put them on the side for to-go orders. It could've also used a smidge more meat but otherwise I liked it and would return to try some other sandwiches there. The Supper Club: Holy Moly, what a value!! For $55 per person you can do a prix fixe tasting menu and boy do they deliver the goods. The amount of food for the price was exceptional, you WILL have leftovers. There's definitely talent in this kitchen, even if not every item was perfect. To begin, our Frito Mixto was exceptional. The seafood was so fresh and perfectly cooked, as were the other fried items. The sauce it came with was fantastic, but could use a smidge of vinegar to be a true agridulce, as is often served alongside fried seafood appetizers in Italian restaurants. Still, loved this! The Meatballs were great too, very tender. The Arancini's were a highlight. They were filled with cheese and mushroom and perfectly fried. These are a MUST get item here. Sadly, the Cannelloni Bean and Broccoli Raab is a skip. Do not get this item. There was no broccoli to be found, so I imagine it was pureed into the beans. The dish was essentially a pile of mush, and not very tasty mush either. That said, chef's take chances with Supper Clubs like these and I do not expect every dish to be a winner. The Lasagna was another we'd skip next time. It was SO oily and also just a big pile of mush. I like very traditional, al dente, clear delineation of layers, etc. This tasted like Cafeteria food. Definitely a skip next time. The Short Rib was good but wasnt paired with any traditional item to soak up the traditional collagen-rich sauce (mashed potatoes, polenta, etc). It was just ribs and sauce, thats it. Still, it was good. I have to repeat the generosity of the portions to price ratio for the Supper Club. $55 isnt inexpensive, but it is VERY fair when you consider the quality and quantity of food delivered here! Im hoping the talented chef(s) here will continue to refine these recipes and mix it up with new items as well. Will definitely return to eat dinner here again as I love this type of food concept with varying seasonal menu's and fairly priced chef's tasting style. It just makes for a fun night! I should add, the place itself is very cozy and inviting and would be perfect for dinner with a group or a date night. The wine bottle menu in particular was impressive too.

Yelp
Dropped by to try their Grinders for lunch and I really enjoyed them! Super big and filling; full of fresh and high quality ingredients. One sandwich is good for two people honestly but we tried the Chicken Ceasar and the Pork Raab. The Chicken Ceasar was an easy winner for me. Love the crunchy lettuce and their Chicken Cutlets were super tender. They don't skim on the filling at all. The freshness of the lettuce paired amazingly with the toasty and nutty Sesame Bageutte. The Pork Raab was nice but softer and mushier than what I'd have liked. Both sandwiches could use a tad more salt and seasoning though. Love the casual and cozy vibe. You can see their Foccacias and Bread offerings by the kitchen. The space is attached to Dimo's Apizza. Overall, a very good sandwich spot for high quality and quantity sandwiches.

Yelp
Decent Italian Grinder.. bread was tough for this type of sandwich as it is a sesame baguette.. would've been better with a softer bread like the ones I had on the east coast.. meat and cheeses were thinly sliced with a lot of lettuce and vinegaratte Place has a bar and been to their pizzeria next door which was just okay Friendly service Nice ambiance as it is a cool place to chill to have pizza or sandwiches with beer or cocktails

Yelp
We came in for some sandwiches on a weekend and ordered the cold Italian ($17) and the hot pork roast raab ($18). You order at the counter and they bring your food out. Counter service was fast and sandwiches came out quickly. Food was decent and the space reminded me of a brewery. We also each had a beer which I think was $8 a piece if I remember correctly. For a casual, counter-service establishment, our lunch bill was ~ $50 (not including tip). A little on the pricy side for what it is but I understand things are just getting more expensive for everyone these days.

Yelp
I love Dimo's pizza and when I found out they had a deli restaurant next to the pizza joint, I couldn't wait to try it out. My sister and brother in law wanted to try their burger week special, the Fonduta, and I couldn't resist. They do have their own parking lot which is nice but street parking isn't too bad either. As I approached the deli, you order at the counter. I ordered food and a beer to go with the meal. I like that there was plenty of seating and the atmosphere was pleasant. Food arrived promptly and the burger looked and smell amazing. I was impressed by the generous fondue sauce that was provided. Even my nephew loved the sauce and we agreed it was a winner. I cannot wait to come back and try their other offerings, cheers!

Yelp
Among the many winners in this section of town. The Spicy Vodka Parm was delicious, the made on the premises crunchy sesame baguette makes a difference. It's filling. The meat Pinwheel was another thumbs-up, a better value actually. Some of the reviews mentioned terrible service, but the big guy with the beard and one of the servers were very pleasant and customer-minded. The parking lot fills fast, but you should be able to find street parking.
google avatar

Tiva F.

Yelp
Love the ambiance and had excellent service. Order at the bar and seat yourself. We didn't try any grinders but the Fonduta Burger alone is worth the outing. We came on a heat advisory day and it was comfortable inside. We also tried two pastas and the fries. The pomodoro bucatini was lovely! Nice hint of spice and I love the crunchy in there! We were least excited about the fries & spaghetti w/ meatballs. The noodle part was good but the meatballs were not tender, and bit dry. Even so the things we liked, we really liked, so we will definitely be back.
google avatar

Ja'Nelle S.

Yelp
We stopped in at Dimo's Italian Specialties to try the Fonduta burger for Portland Burger Week. The burger was delicious and I loved dipping it in the cheese sauce. I found the cheese to be slightly too salty for my taste. The restaurant was clean and interestingly decorated. Customer service was friendly and quick. They have seating inside and out, as well as a small parking lot. I would visit again and try something else on the menu.

Yelp
Hands down the best sandwiches in Portland. If you don't already eat here every day then I suggest you get off your phone and go now.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
What a treat! This place has everything I love; sandwiches, a pastry case, excellent beer list, and creative cocktails Dimo's Italian Specialties hasn't even been open a full month yet and I've already tried three sandwiches and a couple things from the case. Joy! The sandwiches are on the more expensive side, but they are BIG so you're definitely getting your moneys worth. I could eat the bread on it's own; so good! They also sell handmade pasta, sauces, soup stock, wines, cooking oils and a bunch of other pantry items.
google avatar

Leslie N.

Yelp
Long wait but if you call ahead and pick up it's not too bad. Our go to pizza on the weekend!
google avatar

Lesley O.

Yelp
I went there on a weekday in the afternoon. It was not busy. The place is very accommodating with many tables. They have a nice bar to sit at with beer on tap. I ordered the special prime rib sandwich with dipping juice. It was large and terrific. That is all I purchased and it was $20.00. It was worth it I would like to get a pizza and sit down with a beer next time.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
First off, I was really looking forward to trying this spot. The lady working the front was very nice and informative. The sandwiches were $17. $17 for a sandwich should be illegal. Both were just okay. Bread is nice but the sandwiches were not that great. Pretty soggy and underwhelming.

Charlie U.

Yelp
Amazing place! Great people and even better food! Had the best meal and the quickest service!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Sandwich had potential but it needed some salt and tasted like it'd been warmed rather than made fresh. Also, the bald dude at the counter was an absolute asshole. So if you're into hours old, basically tasteless food served by an asshole, boy are you in for a treat.
google avatar

Jon Y.

Yelp
The food was fresh and the service very friendly when I went for lunch. Parking is limited in the lot.
google avatar

Russel C.

Yelp
Best (only?) eggplant parm sub in town, though it might be better as takeout than dine-in as the crust softens up a bit during travel time. Haven't tried dine-in, but looked like a comfy space and will be visiting again without a doubt.

Liam ..

Yelp
Went for dinner service. Variety of options, we liked what we ordered. Two tops near front door are drafty and prone to getting bumped/jostled. Biggest drawback, put the prices on the menu. This isn't the economy to be not sharing information about cost and likely portion size.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
This place is incredible -- it's like Diimos Pizzeria's fancy older brother. The vibe is on point and everything on the menu, from the grinders to the pastas to the prepared case, is legit delicious. I don't think there's a bad thing on the whole menu. Also super vegetarian-friendly -- lots of eggplant instead of chicken on the grinders.
google avatar

Damianne B.

Yelp
They have a nice looking supper club in the evening but went during the day. Had the special of the day meatball sub. Let me tell you...the flavors, the texture of the bread, the spicy yet mellow red sauce. Forget about it. I wish I could have gone again and again. Everything was fresh and homemade and you can buy ingredients there to add to your own cooking. Just go if you love sandwiches!
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
We went to grab pizza, but the wait was about an hour, so we went next-door instead. It turned out to be such a special night for our family. The service was unbelievable, and the food was so delicious. We ordered a la carte and enjoyed a salad, two pasta dishes, and two mains. Chef's kiss! We ate and laughed with our daughters, and honestly we felt like we were on a trip abroad. It was absolutely phenomenal!

Nancy B.

Yelp
I count myself fortunate to have been to Dino's Supper Club twice since they opened. The food was delicious, the service outstanding, and the feel in the restaurant lovely. They're working out a few kinks in when and how dishes come out from the kitchen, but that did not impact our good experience. Our dishes included the prosciutto plate, the endive Caesar (amazing!), the meatballs, the lasagna, the rigatoni, and our table's favorite, the bucatini. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to a return visit.
google avatar

Jay N.

Yelp
Best Italian American resto I have ever been to in the world. I grew up on the east coast and I've eaten copious amount of super awful "Italian" meals. Every east coast joint needs to make a trip to Dimo's to get schooled on perfection. Bravo!
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
Good effort and good vibes but unfortunately not great follow through. We ordered drinks and waited 15 min for them to arrive. 20 min later they were empty and we still had not ordered food. Our poor waitress was alone in a section with ever growing six-tops. I had a clear view of the kitchen with two slow moving dudes with golf shirts and baseball caps with no aprons or sense of urgency or professionalism between them as the tickets piled up. After an hour and fifteen minutes passed I told my husband, "if we don't see food in the next 10 minutes we should go" then, as though they knew, the hostess delivered "some bread to get you started" but we had started over an hour before. Then we were finally brought the salad we ordered and it was soaked in chili oil. They forgot our pâté so we told them not to worry about it- but then ten minutes later they brought it anyway with dark brown burnt crostinis. At that point we had been there for 90 min and knew we had to soon pick up our kids from the grandparents so we got the check and canceled the rest of the order. They comped us the clam pasta which was nice of them to do- and also a tiramisu which seemed to have been aggressively thrown into the box. Anyway- it seemed to have a lot of promise- but clearly not a lot of practice. Bummer! Hope they learn from growing pains. There are so many worthy restaurants to try in this city it was disappointing to try something so nice-on-the-internet but lackluster in effort irl.

Rick P.

Yelp
New place slammed today but friendly people good food sandwiches are good sized to split

Nancy P.

Yelp
Overly seasoned and so much stuff piled on top of things it was even disgusting to look at --sloppy unappealing food the exception and saving grace their bread -- and thank goodness because that was my dinner! We won't be back

Rafael D.

Yelp
Holy Smokes!!!! Wow to much flavor to explain!!! Hot Italian was a true experience!!!

Brother H.

Yelp
Absolutley outstanding. They are still working out a few kinks but the food was excellent as was the very knowledgable staff. The bucatini was my favorite of the four entrees our table ordered. Very reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended.
