Where to Drink Boba in Portland | Eater Portland

"A newer addition to the Boise neighborhood, Ding Tea is known for their cocktail-style drink-making methods. A particular highlight on the menu here is the Hokkaido milk tea, available with a black or oolong base, which gets a touch of caramel-y syrup best tempered by ordering it “less sweet” — that way, the quality of the tea base can shine while also benefitting from the rich, molasses-y sweetness. The cafe space feels really open and boasts a colorful pink and blue mural that’s ideal for a photo op, boba in-hand. Ding Tea on Williams is currently offering takeout only with no seating inside." - Seiji Nanbu

Google
I had Ding Tea Williams cater a boba bar for my wedding and it was such a hit! I got so many compliments on what a fun addition it was and how yummy it was. The boba tasted great. We were able to get three flavors (we chose brown sugar, taro and strawberry fruit tea) and three toppings (we chose lychee and coconut jelly and boba). Their team gave me options of lids and cups to choose from and delivered and set up everything beautifully and clean up was a breeze. We also had unlimited boba tasting ahead of the wedding to choose our flavors which was probably the most fun part of wedding planning. Their team was fantastic throughout this process and I highly recommend coming here for every day drinks and wedding or event catering!

We had Ding Tea cater a recent fundraiser for the University of Portland Biology Club, and they were absolutely fantastic! The milk teas and boba were a huge hit—such a delightful treat. The boba stayed perfectly soft and chewy for the full three hours, which students appreciated. They were incredibly responsive via email and had everything (4 milk tea jugs and 2 boba tins) set up right on time. When there was a small mix-up with our order, they handled it so graciously and even gave us an extra jug of milk tea to make up for it (which we happily enjoyed!). Highly recommend Ding Tea for any event. They have delicious drinks, professional service, and thoughtful customer care!

I had the pleasure of working with Ding Tea Williams at a wedding. From a wedding planners perspective, they were very easy to work with, friendly and everyone loved the Boba treat. Fun addition to any event!

Google
Great place with great customer service!! I just had some delicious and perfect boba from them. Before I left a review that I bought a thing of Boba to make a cake with them and they got all chewy and hard. But they saw this and gave me a gift certificate to try again. I did and it was absolutely perfect. The clerk has a theory that it was because I put it in the fridge over night in the cake. So I think it was actually my fault that it got hard but I didn't know. Thank you so much for the second chance and letting me know the cause.

Google
This is the boba place that will ruin all boba from here on out. They really set the bar here on options and creative combos. The staff is always very pleasant. Been five years I think I've come in here and there and it's always a good time.

Google
Super refreshing Assam Black tea that you can customize with sweetness, flavors, boba and more! I got a small black tea with light sweetener, and light ice and it was a perfect refresher! You can also choose your tea type…green, oolong or black, probably 20+ fruit flavors to choose from if you like..

Google
I really like this place for flavored teas! I recommend the passion fruit green tea with passion fruit boba. Even when it’s super busy they are pretty quick. I come here at least once a week since discovering it!

Google
This local boba drink restaurant has a very nice and modern feel. I had the standard brown sugar boba with golden boba pearls. I like the idea of golden boba pearls instead of the classic black boba pearls. They taste the same but it is very unique. They also have many boba options which is fantastic. The gal who worked at the front was very knowledgable on the boba drinks. She told me that their drinks are heavy in sweetness. And they have the option to choose the level for ice and sweetness. I ended up with 50% sweetness and 30% ice which was perfect for me.

Yelp
Came to Portland for a vacation and needed a boba fix. So glad I found this place - it's way better than some of the spots in San Francisco. Very modern feel and there are so many combinations to explore. I tried the Hokkaido Black Milk Tea per the server's recommendation. It has a caramel taste but also the depth of a dark tea. I got half sweet with incredibly chewy golden boba. Super yum! I only wish the cup was bigger because it was filled up more than halfway with ice.

Yelp
hellloooo what's not to love. cute plants, cute interior, sweet helpful servers. love ding tea. i reccomend getting like 60% sweet for the strawberry green tea, i got 75 and that bitch is SWEET, perfect after the ice melted though. love ding tea, bless.

Yelp
This is probably one of the best places to go to in Portland if you are really into boba teas. (I should add that I'm not a big boba fan, but my kid and her beau are, and the boyfriend used to live nearby and go here regularly. He said that the teas here are very customizable, and he likes that). We visited here recently for the boyfriend to get his "usual" custom boba drink. I was immediately impressed by how large this shop was, and how open and clean. The interior shop pallet is very pastel-y, with soft baby blues and pinks. I guess there were some new employees working when we visited, as my kid's beau's drink took a long time to make, and he said they were a bit "confused" how to make his usual concoction. But he said they eventually "figured it out". And he was pleased with his drink. As usual.

Yelp
The Feng Shui here in on point: crisp lines, open spaces, ambient natural light; clean, organized, elegant. The tea (and service!) is pretty good, too! A slightly overwhelming selection of fresh, flavored and milk teas, juices, tea, lattes, and coffee, all of which can be modified by level of sweetness, and the addition of boba, tapiocas and other jellies, seeds, and foams (cheese foam?! wut?!) based on your preference. We walked out with a matcha milk tea for myself, and a Thai Tea with boba for my wife, all for less than $10 bucks. In the world of customizable, consumable craft concoctions, I'd frequent this place over any Starbucks, any day of the week. There's nothing about our experience here that I would Ding them for; they executed their mission to a Tea! Sounds like a five-star experience all around, Williams!

Yelp
Ding duplicate ~ expected consistency with same menu, same quality & taste. Good boba chew. Adjustable sweetness level is a must and more tea than milk is recommended. Pastel pleasing storefront with a few tables to sip at. Service is bit DINGly with one person working the front and others stanDING talking about nothing.

Yelp
Got the Jasmine milk tea, half sweet, half ice. Really good!!! Tastes like real tea. Boba was chewy and fresh. Service was fast. Might be my new favorite bubble tea spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Came for a cool drink while on a stroll. Got a regular Wintermelon Green Tea ($5 + $0.85 basil seeds; slight sweet and half ice). It was slight sweet as expected, highlighting the wintermelon green tea flavor w a hint of sweetness so it's not bitter. (7.8/10)

Yelp
As a huge bubble tea connoisseur, I'm always craving some delicious milk tea. Having lived in the Happy Valley area all throughout my childhood, I have my go-to spots and fortunately had the chance to visit again when I was back home. This time, I visited DingTea. Their store is extremely aesthetically pleasing with several cute backdrops for that Instagram picture you've always been wanting. For my drink, I went with my usual order of Wintermelon milk tea. Wintermelon Milk Tea -I typically get this large, 75% sweetness, less ice and with black boba -This used to be my go-to order and my favorite drink. Having gone to other bubble tea locations, I've realized that DingTea's wintermelon milk tea is overly sweet.. While I have a sweet tooth, this drink has gotten to be too much for me. This is likely from the syrups they use that overwhelms the tea flavor in the drink that I've been able to taste when ordering the same drink at other locations. DingTea is a good location to sit and lounge around. Located close by to several food carts, it's the perfect place to catch up with friends or work. Depending on your sweetness tolerance, I'd recommend going 1 level lower on your typical order as DingTea's drinks are extremely sweet!

Yelp
This Ding Tea is always a good visit. I don't live nearby, but make a point to go if I'm in the area. The service is fast and the indoor seating is plentiful. Great ambiance. The tea is always perfect. Zero complaints.

Yelp
Loved the taro milk tea with all the fixings and golden boba! Perfect amount of sweetness.
google avatar

Yelp
The boba was delicious! We picked from their popular menu and all flavors were really delicious. Service was good just a tad bit timid. The ambiance was great as well! :)

Yelp
Always a special treat when I get to try Boba! I enjoyed the brown sugar milk tea drink, and then B got the Monster Boba as well, and they both were spot on! I got just how they are and really good, I may should have done less sweet, but it was a nice size portion for sure. Super new and nice spot in the neighborhood, parking was around the corner on the street, and really cute inside. Both gals were super helpful and very nice. Must stop in!

Yelp
I'm from Michigan and we have a few ding teas there so I was really excited to come to the west coast where I knew there would be more! Ding Tea's golden boba is always delicious and their milk tea is always refreshing. I get the guava milk tea with crystal boba back in Michigan and they made it a little different here but it was still so good. Ding Tea is my favorite bubble tea place ever The ambiance was very homey just like I'm used to and the person who rang us up was very nice! She didn't treat me like I was stupid when I asked for guava milk tea of the menu which I am so grateful for as someone with anxiety!

Yelp
Nice and clean boba shop. The service is fast and they are good at adjusting the sweetness of the drinks, which is essential for us. The wintermelon and taro were both great. Boba balls were well cooked and lychee jelly had good texture. Side note is that the bathroom could use some more attention from the staff, but I think that may be managed by the building.
google avatar

Jessie P.

Yelp
There are a lot of great detailed reviews so I'm just going to say my kids really loved their boba! I ordered a peach yogurt with strawberry popping boba and they had so much fun with them!
google avatar

Yelp
Fab tea environment was clean and fun! Super location and loved having a nice tea in hand walking in a fun neighborhood- high marks in all regards!

Yelp
Ding Tea Williams is delicious and delightful. Don't get discouraged by the lack of parking. Drinks are decently priced for delectable boba and milk tea. I drank the green milk tea and Brown Sugar Milk tea and give both spots 10/10. Dazzling boba consistency and dangerously addicting tea. Dependable boba spot to hang out with lots of seating indoors. Dis (this) review was a Decisively D-centered review.
google avatar

Cynthia L.

Yelp
I love bubble just as much as the next person, but my all-time milk-based bubble tea has hands down got to be a good taro bubble tea. I don't know of many places that put Real mashed taro bits in taro bubble tea and are Generous with their taro, but the fact that Ding Tea Williams does makes this place a 6 out of 5. All the boba were nice and bouncy and chewy. And golden boba? Thumbs up. The sugar-level was just right. My girls' lychee tea was super light and refreshing. You've got to take a visit party people
google avatar

Jieming L.

Yelp
Ordered the Oolong tea, 30% sugar, and 30% ice with grass jelly. It's a deep Chinese tea taste and matches well with the slightly bitter black jelly. Excellent for a summer day after some long walks in the city center. The server and most importantly the tea was very traditionally delicious. The menu looks similar to Kung Fu tea, but the tea itself is deeper. The pure ice tea option is at the top of the menu. And there's less of the milk and fruit tea confusion of it. Parking can be a bit tricky.
google avatar

Yelp
I was short on time and ended up going to Ding Tea before a Blazer game yesterday. Parking was street parking only but there wasn't an issue finding parking. Drink came out really quick and was the perfect level of sweetness for me. Location was very convenient to get to and the business was very clean.
google avatar

Jinny C.

Yelp
Love this place for their tasty teas and amazing level of customization! 5 levels of sweetness and ice you can choose, and plenty topping options. Ding Tea also has crystal boba, which I recommend if you like a lighter jelly flavor. Card accepted, bathroom inside the building

Brad P.

Yelp
Teas were lovely. The popping bubbles are fun and add a nice additional texture to the drinks.

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to finally try Ding Tea Williams. I haven't had bubble tea in a long time so the easy order layout was great. I tried a Hokkaido oolong tea and found it very tasty. The best part was being able to specify oolong tea as a base instead of black tea. I plan to order it again next time. Side note: the store is in a very trendy area with lots of restaurants so arrive with your taste buds ready for boba and other tasty treats
google avatar

Yan W.

Yelp
My dad ordered a hot small matcha milk tea with 30% sweet. I took a few sips too and I think it could be less sweet, even with 30% sweetness. As he drank more, the bottom was stronger but maybe next time I either lessen the sugar even more or try another drink. The matcha flavor was not bad but I personally like a stronger flavor.
google avatar

Magdalena H.

Yelp
Their monster drink is so good! Really cute little shop. Nice and friendly service too. Definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Oh wow -- I was really impressed with this bubble tea place and its drinks. I came on a nondescript sunny Wednesday afternoon for a quick drink. There were very few people in the shop, and when they were, they were fully masked and socially distant. The space itself is something like brutalism meets cute Taiwanese -- I love the contrast of the grey with the bright colours. Service was quick and warm, and they were all practicing safety precautions also (masks). I got an oolong milk tea with regular sugar -- cold -- and it was the perfect blend. It wasn't too sweet but you could also taste the quality of the oolong. My only chagrin is that the ice occupied a good portion of the drink, but otherwise, it was a really solid tea! P.S. Make sure you specify you want boba, since it is not standard -- I don't like boba, so it didn't really matter to me.
google avatar

Marissa B.

Yelp
Best boba I've had so far since coming to Portland. Service was great! The inside was super cute and cozy.
google avatar

Cate K.

Yelp
number 1 thing I want to say is this place is so good! I didn't wait long for my bubble tea and they were super nice to me when I ordered. They had a lot of cool flavors and my boba was buss.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
My first time at this location! The interior of this shop is gorgeous. I love the paintings on the walls. I've been to all the different Ding Tea locations in the area and this one seems the biggest. It wasn't busy when we went, but maybe it was an off time. One thing unique about this place is the exclusive drinks that can only be at this location. If I remember correctly, the special drinks were strawberry shortcake, fruity pebbles and dalgona coffee. I got the strawberry shortcake which is essentially a strawberry green tea with salted cheese topping.

Kylie A.

Yelp
LOVE their boba! Literally miss this place so much whenever I leave Portland! Prices have definitely gone up but I guess thats whats happening with most places right now. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Stephen K.

Yelp
Ding Tea is quite good overall. The boba is perfectly cooked and very flavorful, and the flavor of the milk tea is probably the best I've ever had. The value seems to be lacking, though, in that the "normal ice" level (what I opted for), is basically your beverage cup being filled to the brim with ice, and then topped off with more ice after the tea's poured in and settles the ice previously added. I honestly don't know if this was a mistake or not because If I'd opted for extra ice, there's no way they could possibly have added any more, unless they didn't seal the cup afterwards. This makes for a very small amount of tea, which is very disappointing. I'll get mine with minimal ice the next time.

collin m.

Yelp
Delicious boba AND they don't mind Teddy hanging out with us inside! The staff is friendly and the space has A/C for those hot summer days.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
There are so many tea options that it's becoming difficult to distinguish between them. One of the milk teas we had was good, but no better or worse than competitors. They do allow you to vary the sweetness level which is nice. A pretty place with an emphasis on minimalism. No food options that I could see. Pleasant, but stoic service. This neighborhood is a bear to park, so much that we sometimes opt out.

Yelp
Taro mash with green tea milk tea topped with burnt sugar cheese foam + bobas = #amazingness . My #alltimefavorite Taro drink
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
Let me start by saying every single person on their team is so very eager to help you decide on a tasty beverage. This gets bonus points from me as I like the conversation and learning about various options, which are plentiful. My usual order is jasmine green tea (prefer a little caffeine) w/black boba. Stepped outta my boba box the other day and tried the beverage suggested - I was going for something completely different and wanted the cute rounded cup - Mashed taro w/burnt cream & Golden boba won that day. Thank you for being one of the best boba spots I've personally tried and for the genuine customer service. I would give more stars if I could
google avatar

Erin F.

Yelp
Amazing. Such a joyful addition to Williams! This boba is definitely superior to others I've had across the city and the country. Pros: - Beautiful aesthetic, clean, masked/safe - Teas, coffee, and boba options are delicious - Price is right! - Staff was beyond helpful and patient Cons: - Parking can be rough on Williams Overall, this spot is great and I'll be coming again and again.

Yelp
WOW! Was looking for a good brown sugar milk tea boba place in Portland and this place caught my eye. It had good reviews so I thought I'd try it out and I'm so glad I did. Their brown sugar boba milk tea is REAL good. I got it with 70% sweetness and it was perfect. Also chose slight ice. Very, very good quality brown sugar tea. It was creamy and caramel-like but not overly sweet and syrup at all. I also tried their jasmine green milk tea with boba and that was nice too although next time I'll get it sweeter as I only chose 50% sweetness.
google avatar

Sheila C.

Yelp
I've never been to this area before. I ordered a Lychee milk tea at 25% sweetness and it was perfect. The boba had a nice consistency. Parking could be an issue in Williams but I just parked a block and a half away. It felt safe when I was walking to the shop around 5pm and again at 7pm on my way out of the area.
google avatar

Jené L.

Yelp
Yum!! Never tried golden boba, it was absolutely delish and refreshing Came here after some disappointing food at the Saturday market... thanks for the redemption

Ani L.

Yelp
Such good boba! Highly recommend. The employees were very nice and helpful. Cute ambiance inside.

Yelp
Whoa this place is so good! And they're so fast that they got annoyed that I didn't try to claim my drink when I was there because I didn't realize they were done. They asked if I was waiting for a drink and I said yeah but the time wasn't up yet. Apparently, they finished it before I got there! They didn't like that I waited patiently and instead told me that "next time I come in and it's not at the counter, to ask them" (hey I just don't like to rush people but they have a point). So I yelled, "THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BEING SO FAST!" S'all good. I loved my delicious fruit juice boba and I love that they were FAST!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
This is a really cute location. I stopped by during lunch on a Sat I believe. It was pretty quiet. I was surprised that not only the signature milk tea (50% sugar and 25% ice) good, but it was also super cheap in my opinion. Try them out!

Yelp
12/30/20- Finally got to try this newly opened (in June) Ding Ting while I'm home for the holidays! Really loved the modern and clean store layout. Such a cute boba place! -Strawberry Yakult (less sweet, less ice)- This drink was WAY too sweet for me at this sugar level. The cashier told me that their drinks are made on the sweeter side so it's good to know for next time. I ordered lychee jelly in this drink and the jelly also has some sugar syrup (extra sweet). Otherwise, the strawberry was fresh and I always love the slight tanginess of yogurt from the yakult. Since this drink was so sweet, I added water to it (not ideal) and made two yakult drinks from one. The sweetness was much more bearable after that. -Passionfruit Tea (less sweet, less ice)- Even though the drinks are made sweeter, the black tea actually balanced the sugar at this level. I loved the passionfruit tea and would have ordered this instead if it wasn't so late in the day. The tea was quite fresh and strong! -Store ambience and experience- Super cute store with a clean, modern feel. It would be a really lovely place to hangout and chat with friends once the pandemic is over. The cashiers are very nice and our drinks came out quickly too. Great service! I'm going to have to come back and try their milk teas next time. Remember to order less sweetness on your drinks since they're normally made on the sweeter side!
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
I'm glad I returned to try a couple other fruit tea drinks - peach and mango - with grass jelly. Really liked the grass jelly and appreciate the owner's kindness. Although the boba was disappointing and parking difficult, this shop's many other options like grass jelly, acceptable price point, easy online ordering, and customer service might bring me back.
google avatar

Jenelle B.

Yelp
DING TEAAAAA is nearby! So glad I don't have to drive to 82nd for some legit boba. Before the williams location, my husband and I would drive to 82nd all the time to that Ding Tea location. Parking - could be be better but we usually luck out. Might need to drive around the neighborhood if it's busy. I love the space and wish we we're actually able to enjoy it more. Freakin COVID. HAHA We've been here multiple times already. Thank you Ding Tea Williams Crew!!

Kiril A.

Yelp
My personal favorite is the monster boba latte. It's amazing! My girlfriend loves the taro milk tea. Dairy-free options Sweetness and ice adjustable levels
google avatar

Keizzel C.

Yelp
The go-to drink for me has got to be the wintermelon green milk tea with golden boba 100% ice and less (75% sugar). Their golden boba here is A-1 and they definitely don't skimp out on the portions in your drink! I've also tried the peach fruit tea, coffee milk tea, signature milk tea, etc. and they're quite good as well but the wintermelon has to be my fave of all. The location is new, clean, and has art decorating their walls. staff is friendly and during Covid they have markers on the ground to keep up with social distancing guidelines and don't allow more than 3x groups in at one time. They do have a couple tables and benches for you to sit while you wait/enjoy your drink but I generally just opt to go. Since there can be some lines and wait time during peak hours I would recommend ordering online and just picking up so you can get in/out as quickly as possible.
google avatar

Kate A.

Yelp
3 stars for passion fruit tea. Please DO NOT order Lychee. It is so yucky. Customer service was 0 star. We went there few times a week for a month because it was closest tea shop around us, but never feel welcomed. 2 girls were there, 1 was making drink, and the other one was just standing next to her talking. They didn't great us as we were waiting for them. When our drinks were done, they just let them the counter then turned away! WHAT??? The other time, the girl who was talking my order let us repeat 3 times because she was busy texting. We were speechless. Rudest customer service ever. More stores to tell but the review is so long already.
google avatar

Tara R.

Yelp
I was craving boba something fierce on my day off and needing to stretch my legs, despite covid. I wanted to minimize my time inside around others, so, I ordered my tasty beverage online while walking to the new boba place somewhat near-ish my place, which happened to be Ding tea. They had my beverage ready to go. I was even able to pay online which was nice. Grab and go. Got my boba fix and some great customer service all in one go. So glad they opened up a shop nearby.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
I love this place the staff is amazing especially Diana, and the rest of the staff is full of kind and great people! The drinks are at a very fair price and I've only had to wait when the line is out the door. I'd heavily recommend the "winter melon oolong milk tea" and always ask for recommendations if you're feeling adventurous, the staff is more than happy to show you their favorites
