The 38 Best Restaurants in Omaha, Nebraska | Eater

"Dinker’s is a neighborhood bar devoted to two things: good burgers and the Creighton Bluejays. One flattop grill is entirely devoted to crisping buns for burgers, including several well-known variations, like the Haystack burger topped with ham, cheese, and a fried egg, or the Bluejay burger, made with melted Swiss, smoked bacon, and a thick blue cheese dressing. Bring cash." - Sarah Baker Hansen

Google
Hands down one of the best wings I’ve had in a while. Their ordering system is a little tricky. They are cash only, 2 different points of sale. One for food and another for alcoholic drinks. You pay upfront and they’ll take your order to your table.

Rick O

Google
Good burger spot—cash only. My son got the triple-meat burger and said, “Now that’s a burger!” The fries were crispy and solid. I had the patty melt—it was okay, not as flat as I’m used to. The onion rings were a bit too greasy for me. Both burgers were well-seasoned and tasty.

Rob Hartung

Google
Definitely a place you should try. We’d probably go more often if it were closer to home. Cash only. Onion rings are great. Good fries. Good burger. Very much a bar vibe.

Nico M

Google
Was recommended this burger as it won some contests for best burger. The first two things to know is that you’ll need to drive here but there is plenty of parking there. The second is that they only accept cash. As you enter, first go to pay for food and then do the same for drinks. The burger was good but I didn’t find it amazing either: the beef patty is huge and it gets very meaty. However the egg and ham in the burger were a nice addition. Service was quick; staff kept refilling my drink which was very nice.

Google
Classic burger and fries type joint. Order at the back counter, cash only. Beefy burgers and excellent onion rings. Every time I've been here the service has been on point. Even when it's busy the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time and the staff keeps things flowing.

Google
Honestly best burgers in Omaha. Best onion rings. I am a foodie and this place slaps! It’s also cheap, however beware they are cash only. These burgers rival any of the expensive fancy burger places in Omaha. The atmosphere is very dive-y. Everyone is nice, they are decently fast and seriously amazing burgers. We live about 20 minutes from them and we will drive there just for their burgers. I’m the type of person whose favorite places are brunch places, this is the opposite of that. But again, it’s so good that I’m willing to forgo my fancy food for these delicious juicy behemoths!! 🤤

Google
Great friend mushrooms and onion rings with ranch dressing. Burger had all the potential of being one of the top in Omaha, but the patty itself didn't have the seasoned flavor, to me the meat didn't taste fresh. Wings were above average. Atmosphere was interesting, some say dive bar but it is much nicer inside. CASH ONLY Lots of history with celebrity visits, an Omaha favorite.

Curly Crossley

Google
The sign says the Best Burger in town. I don't know that I'd say the best, but it was really good. I would definitely recommend it. Their prices are some of the best I've seen and I would say bang for your buck probably the best on town. The staff were friendly. Our daughter wanted to return the baskets and the workers were really friendly about it and played along with her and even gave her a candy bar for "helping them clean up". Would definitely recommend it. Also, their fries were so good.

Yelp
This is where you come when you want to show someone where the Omaha locals go. Cash only, great staff, AMAZING food, and well stocked bar. Dinkers is SO good! It's definitely a dive bar feel, plenty of seating and multiple TVs with sports playing. We got the Hay Stack burger (egg, ham and a patty on it with cheese) and a kiddie burger with fries! The drinks are ordered separately at the bar and one fountain drink is $3.50 with unlimited refills!

Yelp
Food these days is a hit and miss. Stay away from the CWS burger, had a sour taste. Dinning, was terrible, we sat by the kitchen, at first it was okay and then they got busy. They had the line to order food between the two rows of tables, so what I had was 25 to 30 people surrounding my table while I was trying to enjoy my meal. I couldn't get out to go get myself another refreshment and that endless soft drinks. The waitress couldn't reach us. There were so many people around us very noisy incredibly loud just not a pleasant meal. I asked one of the waitresses to move the line in front of the kitchen and she said we can't do that because then that keeps us waitresses from being able to get our food. My response to management; where are the ropes to separate the order line from the food pick up line! Overall the food was good but I was pissed off and forgot to tip the wonderful waitress! My message to management, be customer centric. This was my first not the best dinning experience. Dropped from 5 to 3 stars because you're better than this!

Yelp
Great casual place to eat! Burgers are good, and their menu spans into salads and sandwiches as well. They do NOT take cards. Cash only . ATM available inside. Service is great.

Yelp
I don't live far from Dinkers so probably should frequent it more often. Hit it up maybe once a year. Cash only but super friendly people and just a nice laid-back place to go. You have to order your food at the food counter and usually order your drink at the bar counter. No big deal. people love their burgers. I'm sure they are A-OK. I am just very picky on my burgers. They do have a decent BLT which is what I lean towards when I do visit. I prefer miracle whip on my BLT you and I may smuggle it in when I go. Fun place to stop in! Always friendly people.

Yelp
Love them for their inexpensive and delicious burgers. They also have a bar, and serve other foods. We go for the burgers. Parking isn't large, so be aware. If not timing it right, one may have a hike. It's not fancy, but it does feel good, to me at least. Seating is casual for dining in. Large tables that are possible to share with others, if one is inclined to be civil. I haven't seen waitstaff, and order at the counter. Doesn't daunt me. I want those burgers. That I get a beer is double bonus. Naturally, we will return, specifically for the burgers.

Yelp
I enjoyed the ambiance slightly more than the average food. Easy to tuck into and feel right at home - prompt and friendly service if you're feeling a barstool or table service. Remember to order & pay cash at the register. I went with the Heystack burger for $10 and a side of homemade onion rings. Unfortunately the onion rings were forgettable. Freshly prepared for sure, but lacking in flavor in both vegetable and batter. Underwhelmed. The burger was average with the beef patty being slightly dry, the fried egg was well executed and the bun was soft and tasty. I'm hesitant to concur it's the best in Omaha however. I was expected a little more for lunch, could be a slow Tuesday but overall if you're looking for a decent burger near downtown this place warrants consideration.

Yelp
If you're looking for old school, mom & pop, neighborhood bar & grill with crazy good burgers, this is it. Nothing fancy. Just fried, fresh, & famous.
google avatar

Teresa M.

Yelp
I have lived in Omaha for 20 years and never been here. First, the young man bussing and doing everything was so nice. Couldn't believe we had never been there. Told Us all about the place and the food. The homemade ranch and onion rings are delicious. I got a bacon cheeseburger. I thought it needed more seasoning but it was an overall solid burger and really fun atmosphere. Cash only, lots of room in there.
google avatar

Alli G.

Yelp
I just love Dinkers. Their burgers are so dang good! Love the ambiance. It is cash only but there is an ATM!
google avatar

Charley B.

Yelp
This is one of those dark neighborhood haunts where your eyes take a few seconds to adjust after walking in. Once your eyesight returns, you'll notice a long room with a cash register at the end. That's where you place your order. (Note: They're cash only.) A few minutes after I ordered, a staff member delivered a bacon cheeseburger and side of chips. A few minutes after that, I had a happy plate.

Yelp
I've been here and ate here many times. The Blue Jay burger did not disappoint. The fries were very good and crispy. Cold beer and great bartender. Fun night.

L H.

Yelp
Best place in town to get a BIG classic burger. Cash pay. Will leave full. Good place to watch games too and several TVs with sports on. Bar service can be a little difficult to get served, but have been several times and always have a good time.

Yelp
We visited the area and decided to try the local favorite. It is cash only with an ATM on-site if you need $$. We ordered: 1. Fried mushrooms - these were prepared well, and the mushrooms inside were fresh. Get a side of ranch for dipping. (4.5/5 ) 2. Steak sandwich - this is a hidden gem. We ordered smothered and medium rare. The meat is super tender, surprisingly so, and seasoned well. (5/5 ) 3. Chicken Sandwich - perfect ratio of crispy chicken to bread. The person who ordered enjoyed it. (5/5 ) 4. Haystack burger - this may have been the most recommended burger. We ordered the egg runny. (5/5 ) 5. Husker burger - this burger had great flavors and overall pretty good. These thicker patties are pretty good. (4.5/5 ) 6. BLT - great ratio of breading to bacon. The person who ordered enjoyed it. (5/5 ) 7. Bacon burger - the person who ordered enjoyed it. (4.5/5 ) 8. Onion rings - the prep on these are unique and tasty. Would recommend ordering. (7/5 ) 9. Fries - these were really good, but the onion rings were the . (4/5 ) The ranch here is phenomenal . We would return again to order some repeat dishes and try new ones.

Yelp
Dinkers Bar is a local gem that a friend told me about recently. It's a totally awesome venue! Tip: No credit cards accepted; payment is cash only The atmosphere is chill, the food is over-the-top incredible, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. It doesn't get any better than this :-)
google avatar

Jay N.

Yelp
I met a friend at Dinkers for dinner. I was impressed with the cleanliness and well decorated it was for a bar. I ordered a husker burger and onion rings. We dint have to wait too long for the food. The burger was excellent. It was larger than anticipated . It looked nice and tasted great. I would order it again. The onion rings were a greasy brown mess. Most of the breading fell off the onions. The breading and onions were dark brown . I would not order again. Next time I'll stick with fries

Yelp
I don't know what it is about icy nights, but we always seem to end up at Dinkers, and neither of us are complaining about it. Nestled in its own little hole, surrounded by traffic, is this gem of a place. Cash only and they do have an ATM inside! We tend to lean towards their Haystack (god that warm fried egg and ham) add ranch. I could bathe in their onion rings. They're flaky, buttery, and you can see onion vs the overly breaded ones most serve, that tear up the roof of your mouth. Here? No such thing! Sidle up to the bar, grab a Boulevard, side of lemon, folks play some pickle nearby (clearly it's popular there), enjoy the people-watching, and all that for $23.50 (we tend to split entrees). If you're brave and come east of 72nd St, I definitely recommend coming out and trying them. Come spring/summer, their little outdoor patio will be the place to be, for sure. Oh. And no loud music.
google avatar

Lisset E.

Yelp
Friendly staff. We had a group of seven and they were able to accommodate us as soon as we arrived. Ordered the Jalapeño Burger and onion rings. Both were flavorful. Order food at the counter and drinks at the bar. Cash only. Parking is available

Yelp
I first went to Dinkers today, and it was really good! I was thrown off at first about whether or not to sit down and wait to be served or where to order, but thankfully a regular at the bar asked if I had been there before. First off, BRING CASH or expect to go to the very back left to use their ATM. They are CASH only. Secondly, you go to the far back right to order at the counter and pay. You then get a number on a stand that you will take with you to put on your table. It was not a long time after we had ordered, that someone brought over our food. One of my ranches spilled out and the guy bringing our food out apologized. I said it was fine and not to worry about it as well as asking if he'd bring another ranch please. He did as well as check on how we were doing later on. My burger was seriously so good. I got the bacon cheeseburger deluxe style (with tomatoes, lettuce, mayo). The pickles they put on the side are incredible definitely homemade like their ranch and onion rings (and basically everything according to their menu). My boyfriend got the cheddar jalapeño burger and fries. He also really enjoyed his food too! I tried his fries and they were super crispy! The bar is on the right as you walk in and then if you keep walking down there is the kitchen/ordering counter. The whole rest is seating. I really liked the atmosphere there. It wasn't too loud and they had cool neon signs with old newspaper articles hung on the walls. I really enjoyed my experience at Dinkers and I definitely see myself coming back! Great burgers, sides, and very friendly people!

Yelp
Good burgers and fries. Cash only but if you forget there's a ATM opposite the order area.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
This is an Omaha dive. If you eat meat they're known for their haystack burger, which is a delicious mess. I no longer eat meat so I got the fried egg sandwich and I was very pleased. I believe they use Rotella's as their buns and bread which is always a good choice. Everyone was satisfied with their food. I dislike the fact they don't accept card. But this place has a very casual vibe so there's no waiters and you order at a cashier. I went at a horribly busy hour and there were no seats. They let a block party have two huge long tables which ate up about a tenth of the restaurant- just seems like a bad idea on a Saturday night. Refills and drinks must be ordered at the bar which is inconvenient when there's a five person line ahead of you.

Yelp
THE ONLY REVIEW YOU NEED. I am somewhat of a burger connoisseur. So, the "Omaha's Best Burger" claim clearly needed to be tested. You gotta know what category you are in to correctly rate a burger. The way I see things, there are 3 burger categories: Category #1: the cheap fast food burger (think McDonalds) Category #2: The bouje fast food burger (think In-N-Out) Category #3: The craft burger (think pub) Dinkers' burgers are an anomaly and may force me to create a category between 2 and 3. It almost feels like a fast food joint in the way you order. However, the burger comes out quick and hot. To really get the full Dinkers experience, the buyer must order multiple patties.Every patty added makes the burger better. Fries are great and the beer selection was top notch.

Eddie S.

Yelp
Great "dive bar" food that is priced reasonably. Burger was good a bit messy and the fries could have been better, not seasoned and were not the best
google avatar

Analisa W.

Yelp
Basically grew up here so this place is obviously one of my favorite places in Omaha . Ate here with my dad on Friday and it was amazing still had leftovers that I ate for lunch on Saturday still delicious the next day !
google avatar

Lee P.

Yelp
No photos of the food but "Omahas Best Burger" holds some truth here. The burgers are juicy, flavorful and definitely worth a trip to the less travelled side of town. The fries were great, and service is fast, friendly, and enjoyable. If there is one thing that everyone should know before going here. It is a cash only establishment. So make sure you bring some dollar bills. It's worth the stop at an ATM
google avatar

Timothy Y.

Yelp
Loved this place. Let me preface this by saying I'm from New Orleans and I love neighborhood bars. This place was great! The burger was delicious. Maybe a little more seasoning but that is probably my NOLA taste buds. Onion Rings were fantastic. I was there in the early afternoon so I wasn't drinking but I can't wait to go for a happy hour or evening.

Romilia P.

Yelp
my man's food tasted like straight up meet with no season. I asked the cook nicely if we could trade the burger for another since he only took 1 bite and he rudely said no. I left it at that, I also notice that he was drinking out of a black cup and was making strong faces which makes me believe he was drinking on the job. He said "this is strong" after drinking it. Drinking on the job is crazy lol
google avatar

Jose G.

Yelp
I'm not sure how you screw up a simple burger and French fries. This was my first time here and I actually showed up after the lunch rush. Their famous haystack burger should've been beamed the hockey puck burger. It must of been put on the grill to sit there and die!! The buns, must of been left out to marinate and harden. I asked if I could get some fresh fries and onion rings and left to fell like I was the one who fried them. Overall, my personal experience wasn't good. If you want a hockey puck burger, soggy fries and onion rings, this is your place. Edit to the review lol, I can't believe I even saw this before I leave. The chef opens the nut bar and stick his entire paws inside the nut bin. There's clearly a scoop To get whatever you sell to the patrons. His greasy paws claw into the nut bin and pulls a handful of nuts into his mouth.

Michael G.

Yelp
Dinkers is an icon that lives up to it reputation. Its a timeless burger and beer place that takes you back to the basics, just relax and enjoy

Cheryl L.

Yelp
Dinkers does not need my recommendation - everyone in Omaha loves Dinkers! It's a fun bar/grill with good food. Just bring cash - they don't accept cards.

Tim K.

Yelp
First time we ate at Dinkers. The things we didn't know before we went: - Cash only - there's an ATM in the bar so not a big deal. - You order and pay for the burger near the back of the bar at the grill. - You order and pay for drinks at the bar. Food came fast. The hamburgers were very good. Mine could have used just a little salt. I liked the place but it's not really somewhere I'm likely to go to again unless someone I know wants to go there.
google avatar

Cassidy J.

Yelp
This cheeseburger rocked. Was it a fancy burger? No. You know what I don't like? Fancy burgers. Burgers are perfect just the way the are with the classics -- yellow American cheese, pickles, onion, tomato and lettuce (maybe extra pickle for me ;). The onion rings may have been falling apart but did they taste good? YES. I will say the fries were just fries not bad by any means but the onion rings were where it's at, dip them in their delicious homemade ranch if you're feeling really bad. Glad I finally tried this place and glad they served really good burgers. Some times the hype is just hype but this place was delicious.
google avatar

Jerry K.

Yelp
Great burger and onion rings. (Maybe a little too much mayo -- didn't really want mayo. Alas.)
google avatar

Lana B.

Yelp
A little disappointed for "Omaha's best burger". The onion rings were definitely way better than any other frozen onion ring. It was clear they were homemade- crispy, fresh onion, and greasy (in a good way). The burger was what got me. Maybe I had too high of expectations, but my burger was over cooked. It was seasoned nicely but was dry yet somehow very greasy. The service was super friendly and prices were average. PSA: they do have happy hour 2-5. This would be a good place to play Keno.
google avatar

Mia E.

Yelp
Pretty good with variety. Got the wings and bacon double cheeseburger. But you need cash they have a ATM though. Probably best place in Omaha if you want burgers and wings. I think rays wings are better. Burgers here are better
google avatar

Francis A.

Yelp
This was a delicious juicy burger. I ordered the Haystack which comes with a slice of honey ham and fried egg. I had imagined it was going to be a thicker slice but it was thin. Don't be fooled, the slice of ham had enough flavor to match perfectly with the burger. I also thought the fried egg was going to be runny but the way they make it is perfect. The onion rings are amazing. They put a nice batter on it, which isn't too thick. They fry it just right to create a nice crisp and crunch too it. The saltiness of the fry and the sweetness of the white onion is umami ‍
google avatar

Chad C.

Yelp
Let's put it this way: Dinker's probably has never heard of Yelp. They are cash only, no frills, and there's really no "service" to speak of. But do they make one fine burger? A resounding YES. The patty has so much flavor that it stands alone, yet they have a few different options of burgers (bacon, jalapeno, pastrami, etc). My favorite is the Hat-trick burger with fries. The fries arent great, probably just average, but they aren't so bad that they detract from the wonderful burgers, and that's all that matters to me. Everyone loves the onion rings, but I'm not an onion guy, so you decide. Cash only, been this way for 15 years, so if you're complaining, you are 15 years behind the times. The ATM is conveniently located inside the bar with a $1.75 surcharge. Order at the counter, get your drinks at the bar, and enjoy a great burger and whatever sport happens to be on the TV...hint: probably Creighton or Nebraska.
google avatar

Tony B.

Yelp
Don't forget get the cash. Not because you'll get service worth tipping, but because it is a cash only establishment. Burger was okay but very dry. Their Onion Rings are the star here.
google avatar

Larry T.

Yelp
Sue and I usually go here for the burgers. She the regular cheeseburger. Me, the Jalapeno burger. I can't see to get away from that. Today, tho, we weren't that hungry. Portions are large for our, older, appetite. Instead, I ordered a large order of onion rings (to split), some of our fave. Sue ordered a mundane fried egg sandwich. She was raving on it, while I was raving on the rings. Tried a bite of her sandwich and WOWED over it too. Have never had a bad day here. Yes, it is a dive. So what? Good food, good service and, oh, yes, Stella Artoast on tap.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Pretty much the best burger and best onion rings you can get. I could eat it every day. Just a plain ol bacon cheeseburger w grilled onions... incredible. Every time i bring someone to my hometown, I take them to Dinkers to have the best burger of their life!

Larry F.

Yelp
Family of nine at 3 in the afternoon. Found this place on Yelp on our drive on I80. Service was fast and excellent, we were in and out in an hour. The burgers are amazing!! The staff is very friendly, they were very happy we chose them. It's only a couple minutes off I80 and the prices are very reasonable.

Rick T.

Yelp
It's a fun place with great service, like stepping back in time (Dive Bar). I will return. I had a Pork sandwich and onion rings.
google avatar

Holly C.

Yelp
We've eaten at Dinkers many times. The food is fresh and delicious. It is always packed! They only take cash, I believe. You have to go up to order and get refills at bar, etc. they do bring you your food. I would recommend any of the burgers. I had the chicken sandwich and it was very good! Love their rings. You can pretty much imagine any hamburger, what you would like to have in it, and I bet they'd make it for you! Wonderful Arnold Palmer, too!
google avatar

Scottie D.

Yelp
Have been driving past this place for years seeing the sign. Saturday i finally decided to come check it out for myself. True neighborhood bar vibes and I like that you can go order at the counter whenever you're ready. I had seen the pictures online but the burger was even bigger in person! I went with the ultimate triple decker dinker burger which was the biggest burger I've ever had in my life! Overall the flavor was good nothing too fancy just a traditional classic burger. I can see why some say it's the best in town. They don't skimp on the portions you're definitely going to leave full! I will be back soon to try out some of their other burgers, get down there if you love a good burger!
google avatar

Dennis T.

Yelp
Not sure how Dinkers is considered the best in Omaha. Below average at best. The meat was dry and tasted "reheated". The burger looked MUCH better than it tasted. Fries and onion rings were solid, but overall I was extremely disappointed. Maybe I caught them on an off day and should give them another shot. It will take a lot to convince me to try again. Based on my experience today, there are far better options in Omaha. Stella's, Charred, Bronco's.... Five Guys, Smitty's, Sickie's...Runza, Sonic, Freddy's....you get the point. Dinker's is all talk and no walk.

Susan H.

Yelp
This has got to be one of the best places to get a burger in Omaha! Great bar, friendly staff and a great place to meet friends. Had several birthday outings there. So much fun!
google avatar

Jerrad R.

Yelp
We went the week Saint Patrick's Day. It's not much on the outside or inside really. It's got a long bar and the kitchen area against the North wall and quite a few tables across the middle and South walls. It's a much larger space than you'd guess from the outside. We got there about 11:30 am on a weekday. It was busy then and filled up really quick. There are quite a few menu items. I had the special that day which was a cheese burger plus BBQ sauce it came with fries. You order drinks from the bar. The sandwich was a good portion. The burger was well done, not my preference, and the fries were just warm. From order to service around 15 minutes. Overall I'd say the meal was good but not great. I will try them one more time when hopefully the place isn't so busy. As far a price it was about $12 to $12.50 all in.
google avatar

Lizzy L.

Yelp
Burgers and onion rings were delicious! A great spot for a night out! Service was excellent!

Asono D.

Yelp
Great food and great atmosphere. I got the "Ultimate Triple Decker" and the crew yelled out "TRIPLE WALKING!" Which I think is a really cool staff thing to commemorate when someone orders this legendary burger. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
This is a gem of a spot. Cash only, and you have to order all drinks at the bar and it's in a totally out of the way spot. It's awesome. Burgers are terrific as is everything else I've had here.
