"This Greek-Cypriot restaurant is open for outdoor dining, delivery, and takeout every day but Monday and Tuesday. They have a special “summer grill box” that costs $120 and comes with about twelve different meats, dips, and vegetables. If you’re ordering the grill box for takeout, you can request that they cook it or not. And make sure to follow them on Instagram for other specials here." - hannah albertine

Went on a Friday night and it was cozy warm inside. I found parking on the street in 5 minutes. Nice time w live music at 9 pm and food was real good. This is what it's like overseas. Simple clean keto Mediterranean fair.

Dionysos is a very intimate Mediterranean dining experience. The food is perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. What sets this place apart from other greek / Mediterranean restaurants is their calamari. Each bite of that calamari is like a dream. I paired it with their house salad and everything was immaculate. The customer service is also top-notch. The food came out quick and the servers were attentive. All in all, visit this restaurant and experience for yourself what they can offer.

Google
Mousakka is incredible but server pretty indifferent about the very obvious smell of cigarettes permeating the back of the restaurant, causing me to lose my voice. Being watched over the shoulder while writing the tip is uncomfortable

Google
It was a Saturday night. before Halloween We were in Astoria and were going to go to The Bohemian Beer Garden but it was a total mess with screaming kids and wasted teenagers we couldn’t find a server. It was loud and crowded! Yeesh. So we did a Google search for a place to eat in the area and just a few blocks down we were able to find this lovely oasis of peace and delicious food. We were there earlier and missed the music which would have been fun.

Food is tasted ok. The roasted lamb was dried out and small portion. Waitress ignored us for over a half hour while she sat and ate her meal with another couple. Left all dishes all over table. Forgot feta cheese we asked for.

I’ve visited the restaurant last Saturday and the place was pretty busy. The food was good overall but not of the quality of restaurants back in Greece or Cyprus. The music was quite good but it was a bit uncomfortable to notice the old lady that I believe she was the owner persistently asking the female singers to go and grab some customers, a group of aged men that she looked to know them, and dance with them. That same lady on a couple of occasions came and pushed the chairs of our table, for providing more space to the specific group, without asking us and ignoring the discomfort she was causing. Finally, when I received the final charge on my bank account, it seems that they rounded up the final amount. It may be a few dollars more but that’s so unprofessional. Overall the night started good but ended with a big disappointment.

Google
the food was great but beware of them double charging you, specially as a big group. there’s live music but it starts around 10:30 so also prepare for that, since it’s way later than what they announce

Very pleasant service and delicious food! Due to current conditions, I was the only diner at the time, but my Christmas dinner there was excellent! Too bad the menu didn't offer dessert, but the quality and atmosphere were worth the trip back to Astoria from Forest Hills.

Yelp
Astoria's demographic might be changing by the day, but there is still plenty of Greek life in the neighborhood as evidenced by a place like Dionysos. It is a quaint, dare I say charming, supremely authentic Greek spot (#1). You know those Eastern European restaurants that don't get a ton of traffic on the weekdays but host all sorts of private parties for families and various local gatherings on the weekends? That's a bit how this place is: old school vibe, motherland approved. Maybe I lucked out each time while dining and and doing take out, but the food has been really good each time. I am hooked on their kolokithokeftedes (fried zucchini balls) and literally cannot stop ordering their moussaka or pasticcio. The roasted lamb is divine and their sheftalia (pork and lamb sausage) is as juicy as it is tasty. Even rhe spanokopita is good. Their seafood selection is also excellent and I appreciate they have their own take on cyprus mezzes. Service has been kind and their delivery js on point. I appreciate that their food is packaged well and is even well labeled. Prices are reasonable compared to other more expensive and popular Greek competition. I would reckon that folks add Dionysos to their must try list but yo their growing rotation of tasty Astoria haunts. __________ (#1) You can trust me, I'm not even Greek. (#2) If you can say this 3x fast without stuttering, you've won at life.

Yelp
Great greek restaurant in the heart of Astoria with amazing service Food: the food was really good! The halloumi was delicious and well made! We got the mixed spreads plate that was also really delicious and the pita that came with it was also flavorful! For my main I ordered the chicken souvlaki with a side of fries! The chicken was not my favorite and I think that id rather go to a place like BZ grill for chicken souvlaki! Service: winning service! I loved our waitress she was so friendly and funny and made some great reccs! She also informed us about why theee weren't many people at the restaurant (several are fasting for lent) Ambience: it was empty when we got there at 1pm on Saturday! But they have a stage and a lot of tables! I can see this as a place where many from the community gather to eat and listen to music Price: for my main and splitting two apps we each paid about $35 which I think is fair! I also had leftovers

Scott S.

Yelp
Came here at an off hour yesterday 3PM with a friend. We were so hungry I forgot to take pics. Since no one was here the food came out pretty quickly. We ordered an octopus special with lemon potatoes and a chicken souvlaki with lemon potatoes. The lemon potatoes and chicken souvlaki was very good and I very much enjoyed. The octopus I think was highly under seasoned unfortunately, the cook was still good. Came with bread, pita and tomatoes, cucumbers and onion. Looks like they have live music some nights

Neil H.

Yelp
They are one of the few remaining Greek Cypriot restaurants in Astoria and are a solid choice for lunch; they are pretty spacious with a music stage. I came here for a business meeting and was not disappointed with the food and service. Yes, they are a solid recommendation. We ordered soup, tarama, and a souvlaki platter. They are better than Aliada.

Jacquelene D.

Yelp
I love this place the great food great music great atmosphere! My go to place for authentic Greek cuisine and music . Trust me the lamb chops are absolutely fantastic

Vianna C.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Greek food in the heart of Astoria with generous portion sizes. The lady (owner?) of the restaurant was very hospitable with a great sense of humor. I came with a few other friends who were visiting the neighborhood for the first time, and it was a lovely welcoming experience. There is ample seating indoors, and I wish we were there on a day with live music. This restaurant seems like a place with a fun, and lively ambiance. My only complaint was I thought the roasted lamb would look different in form than it did. Some parts were a little tough to cut through. We also made the rookie mistake of ordering appetizers that were included in their larger combo platters (located at the bottom of the menu). Had we noticed it earlier, we would have ordered that since it also came with a sampler of different meats and seafoods! But I guess that means an excuse to come back again someday.

Mike L.

Yelp
Went there on a Saturday at noon. We had reservations but there were no other diners the entire time we were there. Anyway, the restaurant wasn't fancy but it was pleasant and comfortable. We ordered several dishes but I only tasted the octopus and calamari appetizers and the seafood pasta entree. Everything was good , but nothing was so good that it would make me come back to have it again. The woman who served us I think is also the owner, she was attentive and helpful. They have a small stage so they probably have live music at certain days or special events. Overall a nice experience. I would go back again to eat there.

Yelp
I just had my 75th birthday party on April 15 2022 family and friends had a great time and the the food and wine and drinks and the music and service was great and the women singing were fantastic very good service excellent I had the best time of my life and everybody had a fantastic time and enjoying everything will recommend this place and come back again for dinner and entertainment for all

Suzanne R.

Yelp
A little authentic gem among many well established eateries in Astoria, right under the el. We went early and only 1 other table was taken- got worried. Realize that in this neighborhood dinner guests arrive after 8. It was packed by the time we left, live Greek musicians entertained. Omg! Amazing food. The best Tatziki we ever had! All salads outstanding, Lamb chops grilled, chicken Kebob, spinach pie - everything delicious & cooked to perfection!

Mitch A.

Yelp
I love live music. And you really have to try hard for me to have a problem with the volume of music. Last night was the first time I've ever asked for the volume to be turned down. I think our waiter tried to explain why he couldn't do anything about it, but I have no idea what he said. My ears are ringing today like they were after seeing The Who at Shea in 1982. We ordered a Greek salad to start, (good, although the tomatoes were very cold). Before we were half-way through, the halloumi and spanikopita were served. The halloumi was fine, but nothing I couldn't do at home. Spanikopita was special...maybe the best I've ever had. Again, before we were done, the branzino and chicken souvlaki were served. Both well-cooked and the lemon potatoes were fantastic. So; good food and very friendly people. The pace of the meal was way too fast, (maybe they were trying to have mercy on our ears?) Only major problem was seeing one of the musicians lighting up a cigarette as he walked back to the kitchen. That's a major fail.

Christina C.

Yelp
It was my first time going here and I have to say I was very impressed with the food and service - Amazing service and amazing food. Our waiter was also very friendly. If you are looking for authentic & delicious Greek food, then I definitely recommend this place. I will definitely be back!

Ioannis P.

Yelp
Food is very good, greek music every Friday and Saturday good but the environment not healthy at all. Everybody is smoking after 12 am. No good at all.

Violeta L.

Yelp
Stopped in here last night with 2 of my girlfriends. We ordered 1 bottle of wine which was $55 a cheese plate for $50 & hummus $12. The check was $170. They like to add gratuity on their own and to be quite honest Service & food were not worth the $170 we spent. Nothing was fresh. We left the hummus and cheese plate untouched. Definitely will not be going back to this location ever.

Melanie R.

Yelp
This restaurant was very good. They served toasted pita and a dip which was very good. We had the house red wine which was very good. I had the horiatiki salad. I had chicken souvlaki with lemon potatoes. The tziki sauce was very good. For dessert they give you baklava and a spongy cake. We went on a Friday night for the live music which was very entertaining. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. There is also a Groupon cash back option for this restaurant.

Nancy T.

Yelp
The views from both dining room and outdoor deck seating are outstanding! Located directly across and short walking distance to Acropolis. Good ok and of course overpriced but it's the ambiance that makes it worthwhile experience

Jane K.

Yelp
horrible, calamari was so overcooked and like rubber I could bounce it and needed a saw to cut it. horrible horrible taste. the shrimp in pasta was drowned in oil and grease awful attacked by flies the whole time. Stay away

Marianne B.

Yelp
My husband was in the mood for Greek food on the way home from the Bronx Zoo so we hit Astoria before heading back to Brooklyn. I found Dionysos on YELP based off it's great reviews but mainly chose it because their online menu listed chicken fingers. Perfect for my picky 8 year old. We walked in to an empty restaurant and were greeted by a friendly Greek woman who seated us. We were soon served a basket full of delicious toasted bread & pita served with olive oil & ground kalamata olives. We devoured it. Our appetizers came out soon after but the best part is the server's rapport with my son. She visited our table often even as the restaurant's tables quickly filled up. I was impressed at her ability to cover it all. After a delicious dinner, my husband asked for a dessert menu. She never brought the menu, instead she surprised us with a dessert made from semolina (thought I forgot the name of it). It was delicious. We began chatting with her and found out she made it herself but the best part was that she was actually the owner. She joked with my son about having a cup of Greek coffee ... and then she brought a cup out for him to try! He ended up trying (liking it) and they even posed in a picture together. I loved it. It felt familiar. My mother was from Sicily yet the owner, Vivian reminded me of my mother (who passed). I appreciated that. When we were done we got up and walked over to say goodbye, she gave me the warmest hug and told us to come back again anytime. We absolutely will & I recommend you do too. Sometimes it's nice to just go somewhere that feels like home. Thank you for a great night.

Maria M.

Yelp
Our waiter Emanuel took great care if us! Altho I don't usually have Greek food, he took the time to share the menu and and made is feel comfortable. He recommended the fresh lavraki fish from Greece! Very delicious. My friends and I came late in the evening so we also enjoyed the live music and dancing!

DrizzyBaby S.

Yelp
First time coming to this place must admit there bread they gave us was really good. The seafood platter for two was great too it actually does fill two people depending what the other one likes. It comes with Salmon Grilled octopus Grilled calamari Lemon potatoes First time trying octopus and calamari grilled have to say the way this restaurant cooked it was worth it.

Gülcan C.

Yelp
The food here is average. This place is good for live music. The waiters did not wear mask at all and can not say they knew much about their job either. The crowd is mixed with family and some random single guys come after 10pm and it was kind of uncomfortable to dance cuz they keep staring at you and come to talk etc. I can not say very modern place. I do not think I would go again.

Michael K.

Yelp
Awesome place to have a party. In facts it's mostly parties. And that's a good thing, just be ready to relax, go with the flow and have fun - at least on Saturday night. We had 26 people and they made it very simple and stress free. Everyone had fun, the food was excellent, and the restaurant team was very easy to work with. Not to be master of the obvious, but, this is a very Greek place. Greek is spoken, the awesome live music is Greek the food is Greek the dancing is Greek and there are many great Greek families. They made our not-Greek family very welcome and even taught us a few dances. In a world where NYC is filled with restaurant groups all copying each other to complete sterility, Dionysus is a breath of fresh NYC air.

Christian M.

Yelp
Ordered a mix grill large size this weekend for a groups of 6. They gave us an assortment of meats, lots of pita, unfortunately very little lemon potatoes and a whole bunch of bread. The grilled meats were very flavorful and appeared to be of good quality meat. I'd like to dine in next time and try something else from their menu.

Jenn H.

Yelp
Excellent service and more importantly the food was amazing. This place had a family homemade food vibe. I highly recommend this restaurant. My boyfriend and I will def come back again.

Will H.

Yelp
A little on the pricier side for me but everything seemed pretty fresh. I came on a Wednesday night and expected it to be a little dead but I didn't expect an empty dining room. The waitress was a little sassy and dismissive but service was quick. Up sold us on the large Greek salad which really shouldn't have been more than $7-10. Seafood platter seemed pretty decent and the kofta was ok. I think they have the potential to be a good restaurant but they've perhaps priced themselves out of the market.

Anon M.

Yelp
This is the kind of restaurant NYC needs more of -- wonderful service (our waiter provided service that felt more like being welcomed into a home where you are to just eat and trust that it'll taste good -- and it did), reasonable prices, and a great atmosphere. I'll go back in a heartbeat. And if possible -- save room for the baklava.

Jeff G.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service. Spicy feta, lemon potatoes, branzino...everything was very tasty. Good to find another solid Greek restaurant!

Jessie D.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Cypriot cuisine. Ordered the ravasaki for appetizer but the waiter brought us some fresh baked pita and bread with hummus while we waited... the hummus and breads were AMAZING! Had the grilled octopus with lemon potatoes and the Meat poikilia with lemon rice. The grilled octopus was so fresh and delicious and beautifully presented. They were having an event later today and were already setup but they accommodated us anyway. Service was great, our service was very attentive and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. Will definitely be back!

Luke A.

Yelp
We chose this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews, and the Yelpers did not disappoint. The food and service was both top notch. There was a live band playing music, and people dancing. Great place. We really liked it.

Maci B.

Yelp
Delicious food! We ordered different plates and we enjoyed all our meals! It was a pleasure to come here and be waited not too long and attended very well. Thank you!

Tanesha M.

Yelp
Had a Christmas celebration with coworkers. It's our second time here. Loved this place very cozy & intimate. Food was great and staff were super friendly and funny.

Ann L.

Yelp
Was here yesterday for New Year's Eve they had great food surf and turf great shrimp and freshly made spread the food was mouth watering it is always a great time her with the live Greek music definitely recommend to try

Nicky N.

Yelp
Food was ok nothing great Had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated Only a few servers so that was kind of annoying Sat by doors so there was a cold breeze coming in. Food was overrated Calamari was frozen not good at all. There dessert was ok probably best part of our dining experience

Narvaez B.

Yelp
Amazing place, great food, bar, service, very friendly! Very traditional Greek food! Nice prices affordable! Friendly owner

Bozenka K.

Yelp
Went there yesterday for my mom's birthday.. we got there probably too early because the place was almost empty, the lighting was way too bright and we had to wait around 15 minutes till anyone would come and take our order. From the appetizers we liked the eggplant dip and hummus.. but the fried calamari had no flavor at all. The chicken in the kebab that my son order was so dry that really could not be eaten, my bronzino fish which I ordered as a fillet was really without any seasoning... My mom liked her meat platter that she shared with my dad..but was nothing really that would make you come back to this place. The things that I liked was great funny waiter, and of course live music which actually made our evening fun experience;) but for greek food I really think that there are much better restaurants in Astoria..

Cinthya C.

Yelp
Amazing food, excellent attention, nice place. It's definitely one of my favorite Greek places in New York! Viviana and Emmanuel are the most charming and caring people you can't miss when coming here.

Kathleen D.

Yelp
We were really unimpressed with the service and the quality of the food. We ordered moussaka and a pasta dish with meat sauce, both of which were flavorless and bland. I usually don't like writing negative reviews, but I was surprised this was our experience based on others' comments and ratings.

Marlene L.

Yelp
OMG!!!amazing food amazing....and the hospitality is even better!!! Love LOVE this place reccomend it 10 fold

Panos A.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! A must if you're visiting New York and want good, authentic Greek food with a great staff and lively entertainment. The bakaliaros skordalia was perfectly fried, with a rich, garlicky spread that tastes exactly like you would find in Greece. The horta and lemon potatoes were delicious and combined with the bread, pita, and olive tapenade, made for a great meal that I will absolutely return to have. You definitely must come check it out! Make sure to visit on weekends for live music!

Scott W.

Yelp
Been here several times. Always love their food and have dined a Tammy local Greek restaurants and this is my favorite one. It may be less popular than others but definitely deserves a visit and is Great Friday and Saturday for live music

Lauren S.

Yelp
Honestly, there are so many good Greek restaurants in the area, I probably would never had checked this place out if not for the Groupon I bought a few months ago. But I am so glad I did! I came here with my family on a Saturday night and we all enjoyed the food and live music. I would recommend everything that we ordered: the large mezze dips, the pork Cypriot dumplings, the whole branzino, the grilled octopus, the moussaka, and the lamb. There wasn't a weak dish. I especially loved the taramo that was included in the dip selection. The pork dumplings were fried to perfection and flavorful. The whole branzino was light and flaky, the moussaka had a nice thick and smooth bechamel sauce, and the lamb cut like butta. We got complimentary little Greek desserts at the end too. The only negatives were the layout of the restaurant, which made it impossible for guests to go to the bathroom because of how tightly packed we were and the bread and pita, which were a little stale/ too hard. All of us appreciated the friendly and welcoming staff and great, authentic food.

Joannie P.

Yelp
Decided to come here with a Groupon. It was my first time trying Greek food and loved it! The owner served us the drinks were strong and the food was fresh and delicious. The owner was very attentive and always asked if we needed anything and asked our opinion on the food. I have a taste for the food again and will come back again.

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Had a late lunch and asked what they recommended. Just happened to catch food coming out for dinner. So we had the roast lamb with lemon roasted potatoes and veal shanks with orzo. Flavors were spot on and the chilled retzina brought it all together. Will definitely be back! Opah!

Ginapm121 ..

Yelp
It was our first time here and we received great service and delicious food! Highly recommend.

Cristina E.

Yelp
From the moment you walk in they make you feel at home. The tzaziki is super fresh and delicious. I loved the greek salad very good portions also. Emmanuel is super kind, very spiritual and great energy! He made our dinner and experience here a lot better. He is awesome! And makes sure you leave pleased and with a smile on your face.

Grayson W.

Yelp
We have eaten at Dionysos a few times now and have always had great food and service. I highly recommend the lamb dish. Come on a Saturday night for great entertainment.

Danielle K.

Yelp
Traditional and delicious Greek food. We had Greek sample menu, which is a little bit of everything. Everything that was served was magnificent. Very authentic and very tasty. Definitely recommend this restaurant. We will be back.

Chris C.

Yelp
I agree with a past reviewer that this place is a hidden gem! It is an outstanding restaurant in Astoria -- We've been many times and have found the food and service to be excellent. The Meze option is a complete feast, and delicious. In fact, we prefer this restaurant to any of the others in Astoria -- in fact, it is our number one referral for Greek food to our friends visiting the area. Our server Manos was a delight and charming. In the past Vivian has been extremely warm and friendly, but not so much on our last visit. Nevertheless, we would definitely return again.

Nick P.

Yelp
Booked the whole place for a private party nice place . owner is very nice . music is great but the staff is very rude and lazy be carful with personal Items they like to steal and the waiters like to play stupid .Waiters stole favors behind the bar and personal bottles i brought and that I paid for. Also waiters charged my guest for beers where I had everything included it sad because my family has been going there for years . STAFF MUST GO

Jessica K.

Yelp
Awful Service. Had a group party here. Waiter was rude forgot to take one persons order and forgot another persons meal. Very upset! Food was not great and cold! Waiter was rude and had attitude when I asked for more water after he had forgot several times!!! Will never be back!!
