The 20 Essential Hot Dogs in Los Angeles

"Bacon-wrapped hotdogs are an LA staple, but Dirt Dog’s are done up with style. A wide variety of toppings make each one uniquely delicious, as just about anyone within a two-mile radius of the restaurant’s address near USC can attest with locations six LA locations and one in Las Vegas." - Eater Staff

Where to Eat Around USC and the LA Coliseum

"Despite its not-so-appetizing name, Dirt Dog nails it with creative and hefty takes on the classic hot dog. Each version starts with a bacon-wrapped Nathan’s frank in a toasted bun that is then loaded up with toppings and sauces. The House Dog is the restaurant’s signature and comes with grilled veggies, house spread, mayo, mustard, ketchup, and bacon bits. Make sure to try the fries, which are coated in a chili-lime seasoning and also come in various renditions, including an elite-inspired version." - Cathy Park

My family and I visited Dirt Dog Inc. in Los Angeles a few years ago when it first opened. We really enjoyed their street hot dogs. Recently, we went back for another visit, and while the food was still really good, we noticed some changes in the place that made it less appealing. The walls used to be clean with their logo, but now they are all covered in dollar bills, and the bathroom had a lot of graffiti. The kitchen also didn't seem very clean. On the positive side, the service was good, and the staff was friendly. We got our food quickly, which was nice. Due to the changes in the atmosphere, I'm considering visiting other Dirt Dog locations to see if they're better kept and to recapture that appeal I experienced during my initial visit to this particular location.

Google
This is by far my favorite hot dog place in California. We were recently in Los Angeles for a vacation and we tried Vegetarian hot dog along with the dirty corn and fries and it was amazing. The restaurant itself is pretty unique with graffitis and people have written notes and signed on a 1$ note and those are all pasted on the wall. Its a different experience and if you are vegetarian, they will also make meat free hot dog which me and my wife we both tried and loved it. Overall very happy with the service and the food. Definitely visiting this next time when we are in Los Angeles area.

Google
This establishment offers a pleasant dining experience. During my recent visit to Los Angeles, I discovered this restaurant and was impressed by the quality of their cuisine. The hot dogs were particularly noteworthy, as they were both flavorful and generously sized. The portion of fries provided was also substantial enough to satisfy the appetites of two individuals. While the beverage selection was limited to basic options, it was adequate. I intend to revisit this establishment during my next trip to the area. Additionally, I observed an intriguing decorative element within the restaurant: the walls were adorned with one-dollar bills.

Google
The D.U.I hot dog is my favorite. The house dog was delicious. The chili dog Amazing. Do not leave without having the deep fried Oreos yum. Great vibes & customer service very helpful & friendly. It lives up to the hype. A must visit.

Google
This hot dog restaurant is a must for those who call themselves true Los Angelenos. When you walk in the 90s Hip Hop greets you with the gritty Urban stylings of the cozy space. Plenty of options for every hot dog Enthusiast. French fries are top notch! And the churros are the best I've ever had! Desserts are super delicious. Customer service is fantastic. You may go and have to stand in line but it's well worth the wait!

Google
Dirtdog is unique. It has such an "LA" feel to it. Graffiti everywhere including the bathroom and I will be honest, the restaurant has a very "lived-in" smell but it only compliments the atmosphere and I wouldn't change a thing. As for the food, wow it's good. I got the pastrami dog and it was to die for. These dogs are next level extra and I love it.

Google
Friendly staff , fun LA hip hop theme, yummy eats ! I had the snoop dog , corn on cob, fries, fried Oreos & a coke . Everything ran me about $30, I couldn’t finish it all lol . The snoop dog was soooo good ! I wish the corn was sweeter. Dine in seating and parking available. I would def eat here again ! Cool casual vibe !

Google
These ARE the best dogs in Los Angeles! Today I had the House Dog on the traditional bun. Yum! It was juicy, delicious, and messy! I wish I had ordered a beer to go with it. I ordered a deep fried Twinkie instead. I was surprised with a complimentary deep fried Oreo and it was better than the Twinkie. The gal who was handling the orders delivered to the table was great. She knew as I was about to ask for water before I even asked. I wish I would have tipped more, as her service deserved it. The first time I came here I got my Mutt Dog to go. I will be back! I’m sure all the dogs are delish.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of hot dogs If I could eat hot dogs everyday I would. I've made it my personal mission to try as many hot dog spots in LA as I can. I've had dirt dog on my list for a minute now. Dirt Dog is more known for their inventive takes on hot dogs. They do the Mexican style hot dogs wrapped in bacon and add their own twist to it. I asked for a recommendation of the two most popular hot dogs and I was told the D.U.I. Dog and the Elote Dog. The D.U.I. Dog consists of 100% Premium All Beef Nathan's Dog, Wrapped in Center-Cut Bacon, Pastrami, Carne Asada, Cheddar, Chipotle Aioli, Cilantro, Bacon Bits. The Elote Dog consists of 100% Premium All Beef Nathan's Dog, Wrapped in Center-Cut Bacon, Corn, Lime Mayo, Cotija, Chili Powder, Cilantro, Bacon Bits, Lime. They give you the option of whether you want to choose a regular hot dog roll or a lobster roll. What they don't tell you is that a lobster roll is $0.75 up charge. I found that out the hard way. I bought two hot dogs which was over $25 with tax. No matter what toppings. It's crazy to think you pay $25 for two hot dogs. I understand you must factor in high rent, labor and food costs along with inflation. Still crazy to think! I liked both dogs, but I liked the Elote Dog the best. Both of the dogs had a lot of sodium so make sure you have something to wash down all that salt. I was trying to save money by drinking water, but the wife had to get something to drink since she wasn't eating the dogs. Fair play! We opted to get the watermelon drink and it tasted very fresh and delicious. The hot dogs are very filling especially when you get the lobster roll. I would say 1 dog was enough for one person. I ate two and I was very full and I'm a big guy. I'm looking forward to coming here again one day.

Yelp
I visited my best-friend in Cali, and she took me to this place to grab some food. The service was great and there was hardly a wait time. Everything was cooked fresh and super delicious. I'm a pretty picky eater and I have to say, this by far was the best hot dog I've ever had. I ordered the dirty dog, asada fries and a watermelon drink! Long story short that same night I door dashed some more Dirt Dog to my hotel ! I sent so many of my family members back home in Houston, the menu, IG page and pictures of our food. Please bring one to Houston, Tx. I'll forever be a customer.

Yelp
We enjoyed it a lot, very filling though. We wanted a bit of different ones to get a taste. I enjoyed the dirty chili dog the most. The elote was good too. The place was packed, pretty small inside for all the people who come by. Love the art though on the wall. I think only negative is how much you might burp after.. but otherwise it was pretty good.

Yelp
Dirt Dog has the classiest hot dog in all of LA - the Snoop Dogg Dog. All of their beefy goodnesses start with Nathan's 100% beef concoctions and then are topped to glorious indulgent heights. This particular dogg is wrapped in bacon, than has more fancy billionaire bacon on top, curtido, Henny-Q and the piece de resistance - gin & juice ketchup. Snoop Dogg's in the mutherfluppin houuuuuuse! I also tried their Elotes (Dirty Corn, as they call it) and was really pleased with it. Great flavor and portion size! Can we talk about their chicken nuggies though? If they aren't from McDonald's my goodness, they are a replica done well lol! Overall, I enjoyed Dirt Dog and won't hesitate rolling through again!
google avatar

Kay Y.

Yelp
Great elote dog and asada fries! My lovely co worker took me here and we came at the perfect time. It started to get so packed right after our food came. Chill ambiance and delish food. Friendly and nice staff too.
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
Super impressed with the quality and taste of these hotdogs! These are what all hotdogs should be, great size, full of toppings, and delicious sausage and bun! If I lived near by, this would be my go to hotdog spot; those close by it are really lucky! Highly recommend! The interior has a cool aesthetic and vibe! The staff was so welcoming and helpful!
google avatar

Brionna K.

Yelp
Good food and friendly staff. Loved the LA themed decor! Parking is tough which is a huge disappointment but I would deff go back again for the food!
google avatar

Yelp
Gross food napkins and antacid will be needed. The name describes the environment perfectly haha

Yelp
Came here late night! For one, service was absolutely amazing!! Was our first time here, and we asked for recommendations. The cashier working late night was nothing but amazing! She gave all her favorite menu options, and we loved all of them. Additionally, she offered a USC student discount! Will be back because of this one cashier. Hard worker & deserves so much more! Very hospitable. This place has a unique ambiance, with tags and cash all over the walls. It's a theme I have yet to see an establishment take on, and it's honestly quite the vibe!
google avatar

Renwick P.

Yelp
My first time eating here after hearing so much about this place. I got the DUI dog and it was FIRE!!!! A must try, you can't go wrong with pastrami, carne asada on an all beef dog 10/10 for me.
google avatar

Poleth O.

Yelp
I love coming to LA and trying a good street dog. They don't make them like that where I'm from. Unless we'll you make them at home. With no line and cutting close to the closing hour. We ordered some of their signature hotdogs. I ordered the chili dog that was delicious. My favorite part though was the brioche bun. It was fluffy yet crispy. Our fries didn't arrive till after our meal. We even tried the yummy fried Oreos before our fries arrived max Overall, a cool spot for a street dog. I would try it again!
google avatar

Maureen C.

Yelp
So yummy and great flavor! They have nice quality of sandwich. Great flavors and everything was so fantastic. Freshly made hotdogs with lots of stuffing. The Patty Melt Dog sandwich and Elote dog was really delicious. The staff was friendly and recommend us great food. Nice customer service.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
After trying Dirt Dog for the first time, I know see why this joint is such a popular choice among both USC students and locals alike! The Patty Melt Dog was simply to die for, as the warm cheddar cheese, bacon bits, and loaded fries all came together and simply melted in my mouth for an incredible mix of American goodness! The Mutt Dog was slightly less impressive, but still good nonetheless, incorporating the flavors of both the Green Dog and the Red Dog to deliver flavors that are both sour and savory. Finally, the Filthy Fries were a real treat. The fries were thick, crisp, and juicy, and the added guacamole, cheddar, Chipotle Aioli, and sour cream were an excellent touch to make them unlike any other fries I've ever had! A nice, hole-in-the-wall type joint, Dirt Dog is a great place to swing by for a quick and filling bite!

Yelp
We ran across this place in IG and my son absolutely wanted to go. So we went. The service was mediocre idk if that's a cali vibe or what. But they weren't inviting or friendly just kind of like "hey what do want". The area looked a little sketchy But my car was still there when I came out. Parking was terrible. The decor in the restaurant was cool. Food was good. We went for my son and he loved everything!
google avatar

Pedro Q.

Yelp
Dirt Dog is the only place that gives outdoor vendors a run for their money. The patty melt is my all time favorite. The service is amazing they're always ready to take an order and get the food to you quick. When the hotdog crave comes in Dirt Dog is always first place on my mind.
google avatar

Connor Y.

Yelp
So the first thing you notice at dirt dogs is the vibez you walk in and music is playing and the seating is very comfortable. The service is really good though sometimes you run into a decent line you still order pretty fast and the food doesn't take to long to come out. The Elote Dog is my personal go to. Its like the Mexican corn but on  hotdogs and its really good. The bun was nice and toasted and the toppings on it has a great balance in flavor savory spice and sweet. The House dog is just the classic take on a hotdog but what makes it different and stand out is the house sauce and its really good and it comes on the pretzel bun that is also toasted.  The bacon was  also cooked to near perfection. Overall always a solid experience. 3.5 Stars  .5
google avatar

Bryan L.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for the longest time so I was glad to try it out. I saw it from all the ig photos of their elote and fries. Inside feels divey with all the black and stickers on the wall and corner booth seating. I got their elote and some carne asada tacos. I don't usually like a lot of cheese on my elote but it still tastes good. The bacon and cilantro add an extra depth. The tacos are pretty good but a little dry. Service is pretty fast and friendly and I would recommend coming here to see what the hype is about.

Yelp
My visit to Dirt Dog was about a month ago. I came with my mom sister and our kids. We all had hot dogs, (my son and I had ours without bacon and i really appreciated that they were able to accommodate that for us) and fries. The service was quick and the cashier was super helpful, answered all of our questions respectfully and patiently. The hot dogs were delicious, bun perfectly toasted, veggies were crunchy, perfect amount of condiments. The fries were hot and crispy. The decor was an incredible experience. I appreciated the respect for the artists. There were also deep fried oreos, the kids loved those!! I didn't get a chance to try them but they were definitely approved. Great place with great food and phenomenal service.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good but very salty. The service was good and the restaurant is really nice but like I mentioned the actual sausages are salty for my preference

Roze G.

Yelp
It was my first time coming to dirt dog and it did not disappoint the fries were so good and the hot dogs were delicious . I would definitely be coming back to try other items in the menu they have so many delicious hot dogs was hard to choose . Customer service was really good everyone was friendly and welcoming Jose o was able to guide us through the menu and was super helpful !

Yelp
Visiting from Memphis this afternoon delicious and tasty adventure . Great hospitality and service. And cool graffiti vibe.
google avatar

Alina L.

Yelp
Yummm and pretty filling!! Love the interior of the restaurant and how chill it is! Would recommend their Elote Dog and DUI fries!

Jovial X.

Yelp
Good for a quick fast food bite. The fries are good! Ambience is a bit noisy but that's the vibe~not annoyingly noisy!

Yelp
Found out about this chain while at a Kings game months ago. So when we were planning on going to another game, we decided to go to the first one ever opened. This place offered more choices than the one located at Crypto Arena. We ordered the s Filthy Fries as an appetizer, and it was Da Bomb! The fries were so crispy and tender on the inside. I ordered the Elote Dog...my mouth is watering just this review! It had the perfect balance of corn and cotija on top the all beef hot dog in a lobster bun. Best decision ever. My husband ordered the House Dog and he sure enjoyed it! My kids got the Dirty Chili Dog and Mini Corn Dogs Meal. They absolutely did not complain! I loved that they were not skimpy on the toppings. Just look at the pictures!! We're going to try to make it a tradition to come here first before going to another Kings game. Love this place!

Senita E.

Yelp
Omg the crane Asada tacos, elotes, hot dogs everything fire here the best omg the cook Ruth is AMAZING

Diamond H.

Yelp
They don't answer the phone at all!! I called to get clarity on something but hey serve before I order via door dash. I called 12 times and NO ANSWER at all!!!!!

Greg R.

Yelp
Hours need to change for this place. Came at open (10:30 am) and door was locked. Waited til after 11 and doors were still locked. Tried calling a few times but no answer.
google avatar

Moonnica C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! I can't wait to come back for more. Incredible prices honestly felt like for all the stuff and being in LA, you would think it'd be more
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Well it's my very first time here the food was excellent but there is just one person that made my experience not good ,very rude she is a young Mexican girl with braces .This is a learning and coaching issue that needs to be addressed I'm from the Inland Empire, my son seen your business on Tik-Toc and we were out prom shopping for my daughter so he wanted to come and give business to Dirt Dog but when you have a person greeting with an attitude and not friendly and making derogatory comments when she is bringing our food that is very unprofessional.
google avatar

Adrian P.

Yelp
I'm stuffed! Everything was great. The bread used instead of hot dog bun was delicious. I like a variety of flavors when I eat and all the ingredients used in the hot dog and fries hit the spot! I also tried the fried oreos and it was perfect. Next time I'll try the churros with horchata ice cream. I tried the garlic fries...another great tasting item..make sure you ask for their garlic dip for the fries..you will not regret it. Pricey but so worth the price!!!!
google avatar

Odalys L.

Yelp
Service was off the bat, they're super sweet and very caring when you first enter, take your order and even after. The food was amazing, the cooks know what good food is about. Outside is sketchy but the inside is chill and good to stick around.
google avatar

Molly D.

Yelp
I am a die hard hot dog lover, I will eat hot dogs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if it's possible. So I know when a hot dog is good and lemme tell you. The one that I had was AMAZING. I know some people aren't keen on having so many toppings on certain foods but I'm a foodie so I don't mind at all. I ordered online and picked up when it was ready. I ordered alot of food and it was all so good! Traffic sucks so I can't go as often as I would like but I'd definitely recommend
google avatar

Lucie G.

Yelp
Great customer service with a smile. Awesome hip hop on the stereo. GREAT FOOD. I had the vegetarian Elote Dog, garlic fries, and Dirty Esquites (Mexican corn in a cup). My boo had the regular Elote Dog and loved it. Everything was insanely good! Even their Diet Coke from the fountain tastes on point! Good prices, too!
google avatar

Oyenbhen O.

Yelp
FOODS GOOD That's pretty much all I have to say. They didn't get five stars because my friend said the pastrami on his dog was not cooked to his liking (kinda thick and rubbery) but that is someone's preference. I thought the dog was delicious and the bread was nice and fresh. The dirty esquite was also very tasty and creamy. Lots of flavors in there and cheese. I'm pretty sure the horchata ice cream was just vanilla bean with horchata sauce which was upsetting but the churros were delicious! As a churro lover, I am on the hunt for the nest churro in SoCal. Check this place out! This meal cost about $30.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
I ate it cold but it was sooooo good. The bun wat toated & buttery the pastrami was good & just enough mustard to top it off
google avatar

Edgar R.

Yelp
This place was the highlight of my trip back in November. I'm going back to LA soon so I thought about leaving this review just now. Service was A+ and food was also a solid A. Will be back there next week when I visit again.
google avatar

CG N.

Yelp
After the dodger game, my daughter suggested this place. I neverrrrrrr heard if it but I seen the post and pictures and said welllll why not??! The front doesn't look appealing to some and it looks "basic" but as soon as I walked in..... man ..... I felt the culture, the nitty gritty street art and graffiti and greeted by warren g "regulators " on the stereo. I felt it! This menu is out of this world when it comes to hot dogs and I love the choices! The creativity is there and it gives you that Los Angeles late at night let me sober up after the club at 1:30am on Hollywood Blvd. lol. Definitely give it a go and try the fried Oreos!!!! I'm glad they only give you two because if not, oooufffff! Talk about high cholesterol.
google avatar

Alexis G.

Yelp
Really good hotdogs saying this as a non hotdog eater. The fries are to die for honestly better than the hotdogs but the hotdogs are pretty up there. It does take a little while to get your food but service is good. Employees are attentive and even offered us a free soda for the wait.
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
Dirty place ,too expensive.no parking....POPEYES is in the same shopping center and other business leaves no parking available. Food it's not good for the price and service not professional at all. Floor dirty and too long for service.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
So tasty... enough said! What... I have to add at least eighty-five characters to this review? Ok well, just know this place it worth to take a walk in downtown LA. The Hive Gallery is right across the street.
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
To live and die in L.A. it's the place to be This place is a whole vibe. Love the mural. Love the dollars on the wall, love the food. The dogs are quality, the bun is perfect, and the variety is endless. It's fair to say I was in love before I tried the food but that really took it over the top for me. I could chill here for hours. If you're a dog fan, highly recommend!
google avatar

Danny E.

Yelp
Ok maybe something less tasty! Smile more. Friendly environment but like the sun burning my shadow.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Food wasn't so good, snoop dog hotdog was not as good as I expected, carne Asada fries had no seasoning pretty bland for my pallet, Oreos were fire but they asked if I wanted free ores I had to leave a 5 star review that's why I'm putting a 5 star review
google avatar

Craig B.

Yelp
Don't be put off by its location. The food is worth hunting for a parking space. Very creative and delicious hot dogs and the garlic fries are a must. If I lived in the area I would be coming here weekly for lunch.

Steve S.

Yelp
Service was amazing! Jose was very friendly and gave my wife and I great service. The food came out quick and was delicious. I can't wait to come back.

Sameer S.

Yelp
Great food and service, always good. It's my first time at this location but visited the others throughout LA.
