Disco Birdies may sound playful by name, but make no mistake--this is an establishment that treats its food with precision and care. My recent visit exceeded expectations at every turn, delivering a meal that felt both indulgent and thoughtfully composed.
First I would like to note that every dish paired exceptionally well with the champagne we ordered the bottle. It was a very strong example of what a great grower champagne can be. The standout of the evening was the fried chicken sandwich. Beautifully crisp, not greasy, and exceptionally well-seasoned, the chicken was paired with a bright, tangy white sauce and house-made pickles layered on a perfectly toasted bun. Every element served a purpose--nothing was excessive, nothing was missing.
We also shared the chicken bites, which arrived piping hot and evenly fried, accompanied by a cool, herbaceous ranch dressing. The texture was spot-on, and they made for a satisfying small plate without feeling heavy.
A light mixed greens salad provided balance to the richness of the meal--simple, fresh, and well-dressed.
But perhaps the most unexpected delight came from the French fries topped with caviar. Crisp, golden shoestring fries served with a generous dollop of high-quality caviar and a subtle crème fraîche-style sauce--salty, creamy, and utterly indulgent. It's a dish that could easily be mishandled elsewhere, but here it was elegant and composed.
Service was smooth and attentive, and the overall ambiance felt intimate without being pretentious. Disco Birdies isn't trying to reinvent fried chicken. What they've done instead is quietly refine it, elevating the familiar into something memorable. A welcome addition to Brooklyn's dining scene--and one I'll return to without hesitation.
