Yelp
I was looking for somewhere in the Algate area for a pre Yelp event meet up with fellow Yelper Yvonne L. Not knowing the area well, I searched Yelp for cocktail bars in the area. The reviews for this place seemed very positive, so we thought we would try it out.
The Disciunt Suit Company is a little basement bar on a quite corner of Wentworth Street. Although it's a kind of Speakeasy place, it is really easy to find, due to the large quirky signage. The stairs leading down to the bar were dark and pretty steep, with no hand barriers, so I was pleased I was starting my evening out here rathere than finishing it.
We sat at the bar and chatted to the bartenders, who were very enthusiastic when talking about cocktails. The cocktail menu is limited. This is due to the menu being their signature cocktails, but they said they could knock up any other cocktail if asked.
I went for The Grapes and Grain cocktail. It consisted of Gin, pisco, Velvet Falernum, grape juice, lime and honey water. It was a really cool and refreshing long cocktail. I liked it very much. Yvonne L. decided on The Royal Rhubarb made up of Rhubarb vodka, cherry aperitif, vanilla syrup, Prosecco and rhubarb bitters. Again a very refreshing cocktail. I finished off with an Espresso Martini, which was really smooth and hit the right spot.
The place itself has a nice feel to it. All the tables had reserved signs on them. The bartenders told us that there are no more than two behind the bar at any one time. I should imagine a long wait to be served when it gets busy.
I really liked this place, but not sure I would come here for a late drink when I'm told it gets packed out. I would come back though if I were in the area for something, wanting an early evening tipple.
