The 14 Best Bars In Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"Discount Suit Company is from the people behind The Umbrella Workshop and The Sun Tavern, and they take their liquor similarly seriously without being bores about it. Come after the Petticoat Lane market traders have gone home and impress your date with your knowledge of hidden basement bars when you take them down an unmarked flight of stairs. A warning: it gets busy." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

Best £10 Cocktails In London

"Discount Suit Company is a Shoreditch bar that takes liquor very seriously without being bores about it. Ranking high on our list of bars that will impress a date, especially once they try one of the inventive cocktails while some vintage rock ‘n’ roll is playing. The menu reads like our dream liquor cabinet—three-year aged rum, yoghurt soju, manzanilla sherry—but despite the quality booze the prices remain below that sweet £10 mark. Be warned, it’s small and gets very busy, so book ahead. " - heidi lauth beasley

5 Exciting Things To Eat & Do In London Between August 19th - 22nd - London - The Infatuation

"Life hack: pretend Thursday night is Friday night and you will eventually convince your brain that the weekend has come. Of course that is until you go back to work on Friday with a pounding headache, but c’est la vie. The point is, going to a funk and soul themed night at a Spitalfields basement bar sounds a lot more fun than staying at home on a Thursday, so head to Umbrella Radio’s takeover at the Discount Suit Company for drinks, dancing, and an early start to your weekend." - Rianne Shlebak

The First Timer’s Guide To Drinking In London - London - The Infatuation

"If you really don’t want to act like a tourist whilst you’re in London, then you should do these three things. Constantly complain about tube delays. Walk at an average of 10 miles per hour. And head to Discount Suit Company in Shoreditch, a great little basement bar that you’ll completely miss if you don’t know it’s there. Down an unmarked flight of stairs below an old Discount Suit Company sign, you’ll find lots of exposed brick, wooden stools, and some seriously good cocktails. Just be sure to book a table if you’re planning on coming at peak times." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver

Discount Suit Company Review - Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"The Discount Suit Company is another basement bar. The people behind it run a couple of other excellent London cocktail bars, so you can be confident that they take their liquor very seriously without being bores about it. Come here after the market traders at Petticoat Lane have gone home, and impress your date with your knowledge of hidden things when you take them down an unmarked flight of stairs below the old Discount Suit Company sign on the side of the building. Be warned though, it can get very busy down here, and it might be an idea to reserve a table." - Oliver Feldman

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tucked away on Wentworth Street, Discount Suit Company is a hidden gem with all the charm of an intimate speakeasy. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported into a cozy, dimly lit space full of character and warmth — the perfect escape from the bustle of the city. The service is top-notch — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. And the drinks? Outstanding. I highly recommend the Purple Noise for something refreshing and complex, with hints of fig and blackberry. The Bad Moon Rising is another standout — rich, bold, and beautifully balanced with a smoky-sweet edge. This place nails the atmosphere, cocktails, and service in one seamless experience. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates expertly crafted drinks in a setting that feels like a well-kept secret.

Google
Amazing service, really creative drinks, and fantastic speak easy vibes. My partner and I tried 4 very different cocktails and really enjoyed each one. They’ve got some good mixology magic happening! Also, really decent prices for cocktails in this city. Definitely recommend making a reservation on a weekend night!

Fabrizio Ori

Google
Competitive prices (£10 a drink, plus 10% service), very good cocktails, flawless service. Not too loud and not too dark. It might not be easy to spot as there is no signage, but that's done on purpose. Bookings recommended to sit at the table.

Google
The Discount Suit Company is a bar that feels like a bar. You walk in there and you feel like you're a detective in some noir film. It's always busy but never full. They'll find you a seat, preferably at the bar, and the bartender makes you feel like an old friend. Illuminated by the flickers of candlelight, the whole space is cosy, intimate, and mysterious. You order a cocktail, maybe a classic, maybe something unexpected and brilliant from their menu. You spend the night chatting to whoever you're with, and even though the place is busy, the whole of the rest of the world slips away. You can cover a lot of sins by manufacturing a beautiful ambience, and the DSC has ambience in spades. Happily though, no sins to speak of.

Google
This place is wonderful. A great, relaxed atmosphere, superb staff and a good list of original and classic cocktails.

Google
Went on a spontaneous night out, its hard to find, but brilliant, As you walked down the stairs you are surprised how speakeasy this bar is, limited seating and standing space, Cocktails were very nice, definitely would come back. Probably would book next time. we had 4 rounds and were welcomed quite well.

Emily Cook

Google
Really awesome hidden gem! We now visit anytime we are in London. The cocktails are very well made and as well as the cocktails on the menu they make the classics. Best cosmo I have had for a long time.

Alexandra Ștefănescu

Google
Fantastic cocktail bar with decent prices and top class drinks recipes, very intimate vibe & very helpful staff, it has an uncanny speakeasy vibe so make sure to book in advance, it will be worth it!

Yelp
Cozy basement bar with top-notch bartenders, who are just as adept making the classics as they are with those on the menu. Can get packed on Thu night and the weekends, but the tight-knit staff keep things humming along.

Yelp
A great hang. Visited from the states on the recommendation of a local. Happy that we did.

Yelp
Walked in at around 10 PM on a Friday and the place was packed, but my boyfriend and I were able to grab bar seats soon enough. We tried the Big bird, Cafe Oaxaca, DTV (guest cocktail) and Al pastor cocktails, with the last one being the highlight. I believe they accept reservations, so would try to book ahead next time to get a table. Drinks could have been better, but amazing vibe! 4.5 stars.

Yelp
Very cool speak-easy type bar in the basement of this old store. The menu isn't the biggest but it has some very nice options and the ones we went with were all quite well done. The prices also very nice for the experience. The bartenders themselves were pleasant and crafted a nice pre-dinner drink experience. The space is a skosh small but it fits the ambience well. We had a reservation and snagged some seats at the bar, which suited us well. Would not be good for more than 2 people, likely.

Yelp
Intimate little speakeasy type of feel. Stopped by for a good drink. It is a nice spot to stop by for a good cocktail and a bite to eat.

Yelp
This is a fun, swanky little speakeasy in the heart of central london with a unique cocktail menu (affordable, btw!) and good service. Overall tough to beat. We arrived as a large group unannounced and they were able to get us seated. We ordered drinks and some small bites. They were out of a couple cheeses on the cheeseboard which they were happy to substitute. Their olives were delicious. Overall we liked the drinks we ordered. I did find mine a bit sweeter than I had hoped, but I've found that to be the norm in london. Overall would go back. This would be a great first date spot.

Yelp
Such an amazing experience! We came here right at opening with a party of 2 on a weekday. We were luckily able to get a table despite all the reservations. It has big speakeasy vibes with the non-descript entrance, the basement location, and the dark lighting. There are also spools of thread hung around the ceiling which is a cute touch. The menu here is super interesting and creative. (Unfortunately forgot to snap a pic of the menu!). The drinks are also very affordable, ranging from 9-11 pounds. The drinks were all delicious and we would've stayed for more than 2 drinks if we didn't already have later plans. Would definitely recommend this place for those who love cocktails!

Yelp
Drinks are pretty good and the vibe is very chill. The service was good. It is a bit far out but it's close to the tube.

Yelp
"Cleaver, Sophisticated, and Unique" are the three words that come to mind when I visited this Speakeasy. To walk down a street a night where many businesses are closed and at the next corner lies a building named "Discount Suit Company", you think you are lost. But inthe corner of this establishment are steps that take you into the belly of this place. As you descend, it is dark but there is enough illumination for you to find yourself in this hidden gem. The crowd is excited. The bartenders are pouring fantastic drinks. The DJ is thumping between old and new school. You have reached Nirvana. Of course I had to have their signature Old Fashion. I recommend requesting what Bourbon you would them to use. The bar is fully stocked. I can't articulate enough how cool the vibe and service was. It was most definitely worth the visit. I look forward to the next.

Yelp
Enjoyed our visit after a nearby Jack the Ripper tour. Wouldn't make a special visit for this bar, but it was perfect post-tour. Our party of 4 all enjoyed our drinks, and I always adore a bartender's / dealer's choice. Staff was very friendly and personable.

Yelp
Amazing. Must make a reservation as this place fills up but once in, there's no attitude or rush or hype. It's good service, excellent drinks and no frills atmosphere. You come with good company and drink high quality beverages. I ordered the Mexican sextape but wanted it spicy and so they re interpreted it and it was so good I had 3 rounds of it and expect them to update the menu for it! Prices are also "discount" too, what's not to like?!

Yelp
Hands down one of the best-handcrafted cocktail spots I have EVER been too in my life. If you don't know what you are looking for, you won't find this spot on the first try. Thankfully I went with a friend who was a regular. I don't know if I would have ventured here alone by myself. Climb downstairs to this dimly lit bustling narrow cocktail bar. We managed to find a couple of seats at the bar as another group was leaving. Lucky timing. This tiny place was packed. Watching the bartenders is like watching a show. They are very passionate about their craft. They put their time and passion into each drink. It is inspiring. The drinks are reasonably priced for London and extremely tasty.

Yelp
This has to be one of the best places I've had cocktails in my whole life! It is an underground bar and it has the best, most inventive drinks! You go behind a curtain and you are now in this amazing underground atmosphere! The staff is so nice and we even got upgraded to seating when we went two nights in a row! The candlelit atmosphere and the underground feeling make this place really special!

Yelp
best bar i have ever been to, hands down. a friend who works here brought me in on one of her off days and i cannot recommend this place enough. it's small and doesn't have signs outside and you walk down some stairs to get to a dimly lit (but very cozy) room with a bar and a few tables and leather chairs. I would never had discovered it if my friend had not shown me it, and boy am i glad she did! Paul and Micky (Miki?) we're amazing throughout the night and the drinks on the menu were the best drinks i've ever had at any place. Service was incredible and everyone was so friendly and upbeat. my friends and i played cards and chatted with the bartenders l, and i will be making a beeline for this bar once i get to London again! The drinks in the menu sound pretty interesting but once you taste them they are mind blowing, i'll definitely be looking to recreate them at home but it won't be the same as the ambiance of this place is unmatched. would give more stars if i could! Thank you!

Yelp
Without doubt the best bar we sampled in London, a refuge from dull pubs and sloppy Soho clubs. Look for the abandoned looking black corner building, thankfully with a large sign on the side, and approach the door with the bumping beats blasting through. In the basement is an intimate, dimly but warmly lit cocktail oasis. They take reservations for the small number of tables, but even without, we were able to snag a spot at the bar around 8 on Saturday after only 15 or so minutes of waiting. The drinks, all £8.50-9.00, are uniformly outstanding, truly well mixed, and varied. My love was in love with the airfix, a gin based drink with orange, lemon, and peach bitters. A fruity but not overly sweet delight. She also loved a dirty martini. For me, they made an incredible Toronto and a unique cocktail called the big sandy, which was a bourbon based take on an old fashioned with cardamom bitters. So good. The block or two surrounding the place is dead quiet and abandoned feeling, but don't skip it!

Yelp
Amazing place with a great staff. This is like a speakeasy type cocktail bar, located inside a place you would not expect to find a bar. There is not much around it. I took a cab there once and the driver seemed rather confused that we wanted to get out. They have great drinks and are happy to make you anything you want and recommend stuff for you to try. This place was so great we went back two nights in a row when in London.

Yelp
I have always been a sucker for "hidden" speakyeasy-esque bars. That being said, most of those venues seem to focus more on the image and less on the drink quality. Discount Suit Company had the best cocktails i've ever experienced. When first walking into the bar (which you only would if you knew it was there), it is very small, cozy, and understated. I tried the Smogcutter and the Grapes and Grain. It is immediately clear that these drinks were made with very fresh ingredients, were mixed perfectly, and had amazing garnishes that really add to not only the presentation, but enhance the flavors of the drink. I was only in London for a short stay, and would have returned to try the whole menu if I had the time. I will definitely be returning on my next trip to the UK!

Yelp
Tiny little cocktail club that can be pretty hard to find (look for the dilapidated signage on the building and then go to the staircase to the basement on the left). The first time I tried to go, it was way too loud and way too packed (it was a weekend). Second time was a weeknight, which was way more manageable. Grabbed some seats at the bar, and eventually at one of their leather couches. Cocktails run from your classics to some more involved ones. I always accidentally order tiki drinks, and this was no exception. However, they were delicious! Bartenders were great. The vibe was good (music wasn't eardrum-bursting this time), and the space is cool. Definitely recommend heading over on a low-key night.

Yelp
Visiting London it was a goal to find some of the speak easys/hidden bars throughout the city. The bar is located on a random, unassuming street with a broken down sign above to guide you toward the entrance below. This bar was jam packed on a Saturday night and as you can imagine it was crowded, hot and very sweaty. Despite all of that it was a great time. I loved that there was a DJ and she played good music all night. The cocktail menu was vast but with simple drinks that were delicious. The vibe was chill but fun with lots conversation and dancing. We managed to sneak a spot in the back to get away from the larger crows up front. The fellow bar-goers were approachable and made for a fun night. I could easily see this being a go-to spot, especially on weeknights when it isn't so crazy.

Yelp
I was looking for somewhere in the Algate area for a pre Yelp event meet up with fellow Yelper Yvonne L. Not knowing the area well, I searched Yelp for cocktail bars in the area. The reviews for this place seemed very positive, so we thought we would try it out. The Disciunt Suit Company is a little basement bar on a quite corner of Wentworth Street. Although it's a kind of Speakeasy place, it is really easy to find, due to the large quirky signage. The stairs leading down to the bar were dark and pretty steep, with no hand barriers, so I was pleased I was starting my evening out here rathere than finishing it. We sat at the bar and chatted to the bartenders, who were very enthusiastic when talking about cocktails. The cocktail menu is limited. This is due to the menu being their signature cocktails, but they said they could knock up any other cocktail if asked. I went for The Grapes and Grain cocktail. It consisted of Gin, pisco, Velvet Falernum, grape juice, lime and honey water. It was a really cool and refreshing long cocktail. I liked it very much. Yvonne L. decided on The Royal Rhubarb made up of Rhubarb vodka, cherry aperitif, vanilla syrup, Prosecco and rhubarb bitters. Again a very refreshing cocktail. I finished off with an Espresso Martini, which was really smooth and hit the right spot. The place itself has a nice feel to it. All the tables had reserved signs on them. The bartenders told us that there are no more than two behind the bar at any one time. I should imagine a long wait to be served when it gets busy. I really liked this place, but not sure I would come here for a late drink when I'm told it gets packed out. I would come back though if I were in the area for something, wanting an early evening tipple.

Yelp
Are cocktails supposed to taste like medicine? well my smogcutter and the picadura tasted similar. The range of cocktails is a bit limited as well which was disappointing.. maybe I have been won over by cooperate cocktail bars... so I started to explore if they did a any other drinks. Yes,they did. phew. the Mai Thai was as expected. the Singapore sling was a bit too bitter but it didn't taste like medicine. The place is small but very comfortable with lots of atmosphere and great music.. I think you need to mellow in and give yourself some time here to begin to appreciate it. maybe it's the drinks speaking but I began to like it by the end of the night. Service is very good with the ability to order food and drinks at the table. I think it's worth a visit bit it might be best you don't order from. the cocktail menu.
google avatar

Suz Y.

Yelp
A not so hidden speakeasy thanks to the sign & bouncer. Low-ceiling, dark, small basement with vintage furniture in the main area and some small side tables across from the bar. The place was packed on a Friday night! If you are claustrophobic, this is probably not the place for you. They did have about 4 bartenders, we didnt have to wait too long to order drinks. The menu had about 6 specialty drinks, all £7.50, in addition to some beers and others. The drinks were definitely good and not too strong. I assume they change up their menus, so will have to come back to try more. The best thing: they have a guy there just spinning classic tunes on vinyl like The Supremes. Some may say they are trying too hard to be hip, but I would love to have that job!

Yelp
This is one of my favourite places I like to take out of towners to -- after a delicious meal on Brick Lane, we head to Discount Suit Company (sometimes before too!) for a nice little surprise. As others have said, not what you expect of what you get on to Petticoat Lane Market, a nice little cocktail bar at the bottom of the stairs. A beautifully presented menu with beautifully presented drinks (and beautiful bartenders). Get there early for seats (the couches are super comfy)
google avatar

Mit S.

Yelp
This place is rubbish! Don't come here! OK, so for those of you who didn't believe the first line of my review, OMG this place is sooooo cool! It's so discreet you'd have no idea it was there unless you went looking for it, but it's totally worth looking for. You go inside, through some black curtains and down some stairs, and you're suddenly in this lively bar with decent music, friendly staff and just the greatest atmosphere! It's good for meeting friends for a drink, the cocktails are good and reasonably priced for the area, and you feel like you're in your own secret hidden bar. This must have been what it must have been like going to a bar during the prohibition in the USA last century, and I'm sure that's the idea. So err, don't come here because I don't want the place to become too popular and prevent me from ever visiting, as has happened with the likes of Duck & Waffle... but absolutely do go there to check it out because this is an experience everyone has to have at least once! But keep a seat free for me :D
google avatar

Lyndsi V.

Yelp
Thanks to the excellent reviews we decided to go hear for some excellent cocktails. My boyfriend and I had been traveling for eight days and were tired of bad wine/cocktails. This place was just what we needed. It was inexpensive and the server was so nice to let us come in without reservations. He found us a spot and was very attentive and kind. I've lived in New York for 11 years, I've never had a cocktail quite so delicious!

Danielle M.

Yelp
Had a delicious gin drink here on their comfortable leather couches. Super cool bar with an entrance thats easy to miss underneath the discount suit company store. I never wanted to leave, the ambience was exactly what we were looking for and the prices were reasonable.

Aimee K.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a few cocktails and was impressed. Wonderful music, creative and generous cocktails and cozy ambiance. Will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Snuck in last week for a drink or two - top notch craft cocktails with fresh ingredients and great drink-masters. Intimate underground old school ambience. Great for before or after dinner drinks with your favorite person. If you're a fan of underground/speakeasy style, put this on your checklist.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
I'd heard about this place as a speakeasy - I love those, so I was pleased to realise I was in the area last night. However, it was a bit disappointing. While I was expecting to have to search for it a bit, the entrance was very obvious - I'm sure people who weren't aware of its existence would have spotted it easily. Unlike, for example, the Evans and Peel Detective Agency, it didn't really make much use of the gimmick and there wasn't much thought put into it, seemingly. Meanwhile, the space was cramped and the music was too loud to talk. Basically, it seemed to keep the worst elements of speakeasies without retaining the things that make them exciting in the first place. I wouldn't bother.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Cheap, tasty cocktails; friendly barmen; the ability to make reservations(they managed to fit 8 people onto a table that was meant for 6); and a bouncer who makes you feel like you're someone special because you are getting in the door. What more can you ask for in a cocktail bar? As I walked from Aldgate Station, I was slightly worried I was walking in the completely wrong direction, as I just couldn't imagine a cocktail bar like DSC in the area (I guess that's why it's a speakeasy). As I turned the corner, I saw the Discount Suit Company sign with a lone bouncer stood below it. I was running a bit late, and as I walked up, the bouncer said "part of leslie's party, right? we've saved you a seat"..and ushered me right in. Although, the bar itself is a bit dim and cramped, I felt it added to the charm, and I never felt overly crowded. I'll definitely be returning to Discount Suit Company soon.
google avatar

Nicholas S.

Yelp
Me and two friends were having dinner in Shoreditch last night after which we decided to find a cocktail bar. A quick check on Yelp revealed we were just a few streets away from the Discount Suit Company. Having already stellar reviews we headed off. Though very craftily concealed (look for the corner building with the name emblazoned high above) the narrow staircase led down into a cosy, sultry looking speak easy style bar that was comfortably busy. The staff were very helpful and good humoured and we very much enjoyed our selection - imaginative, tasty and on the cheaper end of the London cocktail spectrum. I would most certainly return!
google avatar

Martina F.

Yelp
Not being local, we actually had a hard time finding the place at first, but when we found it we didn't want to leave! Amazing cocktails and really great staff. The place is a small basement bar and got pretty packed, but it had a really nice vibe to it. Would definitely go there again!
google avatar

Zeynep K.

Yelp
Discount Suit Company is your perfect cocktail bar with great value cocktails, friendly bartenders and awesome music (nodding my head to DJ's selection of Depeche Mode and Ray Charles). The only down part is the space, it can get quite tight if there are more than 25-30 people in the bar, so be early and grab a seat.
google avatar

Thomas A.

Yelp
Sister bar to the Sun Tavern in BG, the Discount Suit Co seems to capture the similar feel of cocktails in a reclaimed space at a nice price. Drinks on the list made by your skilled bartenders for £7.50 and a host of classics as well (or if you need inspiration, they encourage you to chat to them for advice). Small, cosy and dim. Perfect for a nightcap or a full night of it.
google avatar

Jurge V.

Yelp
I love this place! Always very busy, and for a good reason! Excellent cocktails, fab DJs and a really cozy atmosphere. Love the olives they serve ;-)
google avatar

Travis B.

Yelp
This place has great cocktails and great atmosphere. You wouldn't guess it in the bottom of a creepy basement.

Blaize L.

Yelp
This is one of the best bars in London we were able to find. It's literally a bit difficult to find, but worth it. Drinks were GREAT, especially for the price!! Bar is underground, has a very well-done speak-easy atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Music superb. Should be s must-do on your London list.
google avatar

Whitney R.

Yelp
This is a really fun speakeasy located between Liverpool Street and Aldgate. You enter downstairs and transformed into a cool basement bar with exposed brick and lots of inventive cocktails! Keep an open mind with the drinks - they aren't your typical cocktails but most are good. The bartenders are very accommodating and the cocktails are lethal. It's small and typically packed on a Saturday night, but since it was Halloween, it was easy to get into. A really cool experience!!
google avatar

Bruno S.

Yelp
Amazing hidden cocktail place. Might be a bit hard to find, and it does look sketchy as you go down the stairs, but that is part of the experience that makes this one of the best kept secrets in east london. The bartenders are fantastic and if you don't like what you see in the menu, they are absolutely fantastic in designing cocktails on the spot. Great for bringing a date! Terrible to come along with your pals, it would just ruin the vibe. Highly recommend! Prices around 8-10£ for a cocktail.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Brilliant bar, brilliant location, fantastic service. Can't get better in London. Definitely book in advance on a Saturday night for a sofa as will get very busy. Top notch place

Caren H.

Yelp
Amazing place--I'm a sucker for a cool cocktail bar in the speakeasy concept. Walk down the stairs and be surprised about what you will find....an authentic yet refined basement that rocks the theme of the "Discount Suit Company". Cute menus, great cocktails, lovely glassware, tables and a bar but they don't cram you in, good service and creativity. LOVE. Oh, and 7.50 for cocktails of this caliber? Hallelujah!

Riki T.

Yelp
This is an absolutely brilliant cocktail bar. Tommy, the bartender, is a guru. The house drinks are delicious, but why stop there? Ask Tommy to create something "off-the-cuff" and you will find yourself in a transcendental haze of booze and conviviality. I cannot recommend Discount Suit Company highly enough. If I were on my deathbed, I would skip the last meal and come here straight away. Six stars.
