The Best Restaurants in Old Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Easily the most thrifty bet on this list, Dispensa is a popular pick among the area’s lunchtime crowd for its pared-down, takeout menu of classic panini. They’re all delicious, but the chicken cutlet and eggplant parmigiana options — with some added rapini — are especially perfetto. Complete the meal with an iced espresso and Italian sweet." - Eater Staff

The Best Takeout Options From Long-Standing Montreal Food Counters | Eater Montreal

"This Old Port hideaway has been serving affordable lunchtime fare to the area’s bustling office crowd since 2014. Expect pizza al taglio, calzones, and paninos stuffed with porchetta, chicken cutlet, or meatballs. There are warm dishes, too, like chicken parmigiana and cavatelli with sausage and rapini, plus a nice selection of imported Italian oils, pastas and canned tomatoes, if your pantry needs some stocking." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

First trip (don't judge me) and was pleasantly surprised! GREAT value and fast service compared to other joints. Tried the chicken and meatball sandwiches. Bread is great and flavour on point. Keep it up guys!

Google
This Italy away from Italy. Bread is wholesome but light (10/10), chicken was good and lightly seasoned and breaded (8/10), special add on ingredients including cheese and dried cherry tomatoes are super fresh and satisfying (10/10). It’s a small place with long lineup that moves fast just like in Rome.

Google
review for the cannolo only: filling not too sweet, dense riccota dense filling, substantial filling, had chocolate chips. came prefilled but the shell remained crisp. cream was a bit grainy but overall meets expectations!!!! 3.5/5 cannoli :)

La Dispensa is a true hidden gem. I first discovered it thanks to my wife, whose office is nearby, and since then it has become one of my favorite spots. Their coffee is fantastic, probably some of the best around, and the sandwiches are always fresh and flavorful. The poulet Pane sandwich is on another level, the bread is perfectly crunchy yet light, and the quality for the price is unbeatable. I go there several times a week, and I often recommend it to clients when they want a quick but excellent bite. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming, and even if it gets busy around lunch, it’s worth the wait. Highly recommend!

Google
Great Coffee, and the sandwich I got it early (10h30) because I know how popular this place gets. I wasnt able to wait until noon to eat it. Gobbled it right up. The bread is crunchy and fresh, the ingredients amazing... and 10$! Amazing!

We had Dispensa cater our grade 6 school graduation. The food was absolutely delicious. The sandwiches melted in your mouth, the pizza tasted authentic just like my Italian mom used to make. The tortelloni and salads were equally as amazing. Everything was so fresh and honestly to die for! How could I forget about the desserts, they were everything! I would recommend Dispensa for any event that you may have. Aldo and Anthony, the owners, are professional and very attentive to your needs. Thank you guys again!!

Google
My compliments to the staff and chefs. I recently discovered your store and the sandwiches are perfect every time. The ambiance is nostalgic and authentic to stores I've come across in Italy. Great quality and selection of Italian products. Keep up the great work.

Yelp
Great place for a cheap lunch. Their sandwiches are unreal. I usually come here when I don't want to go far away from work during lunch. The staff are super friendly and they make you feel very welcomed. I got the chicken sandwich this time and asked if they could make it/add some spice to it. They gladly said of course. The bread that they use for the sandwich is out of this world. It has the perfect crunch and it is always warm. The pesto is also really good, very tasty. As for the chicken, it is also delicious and crunchy. I also got the natural cola that I believe they make. It was also really good. It is a little pricy. However, their sandwiches are so cheap (relatively speaking) that it doesn't seem as so. Overall, I would highly recommend trying this place out! Just beware of the long lines during lunch

Yelp
Wow! I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet. I'm suspecting that it's the kind of place the locals want to keep a secret. Hugely popular and busy, Dispensa Cafe has been my go to coffee place since I moved into the neighbourhood this year. First off, it's an authentic Italian grocery/bakery/coffee shop/lunch to go establishment. The place is pretty small so it's the kind of place you get stuff to go. Man is their food fresh and high quality. Aside from a range of espresso drinks, they also have baked goods and prepared lunches, all prepared fresh daily! The best part is despite it being located in Old Montreal, it's actually pretty inexpensive. I regularly enjoy their $3 pastries, $2.75 lattes, and $5 veal lunches. As I've said earlier, the place is Italian. I'm not Italian myself but it seems pretty legit to me. The store also happens to be an mini Italian grocery. They've got a selection of pastas, sauces, oils, chocolates, cookies, cheeses, cold cuts, and drinks; mostly brands I've never seen at a regular grocery store. If you're in the neighbourhood and am in the mood for some good food and coffee take out I highly recommend you try this spot!

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had a better sandwich. Get the Mortadella! Great people, great prices, and AMAZING food

Yelp
Some of the nicest people to ever own a coffee shop in the old port. Inexpensive, tasty espressos and milk based drinks, they also have great, cheap sandwiches and pre-made lunches, I think they have the most inexpensive lunches around that area. They also have a small but solid cold cuts, cheese and dairy, and pastries section, and a small grocery store for the people who lives near there. One of the coolest find I've been to in the entire vicinity of downtown.

Yelp
Sandwich Gods... everything is excellent... service is best in the city - seriously. My favourite is porcetta with basil mayo and marinated rapini. But it's all fantastic.

Yelp
I go there about once a week and the place gets absolutely swarmed at lunch time. It's a very tiny counter but pretty much everything coming out of that kitchen is fabulous. Their big thing is the porchetta sandwich, which is heavenly. The salads and the pastries are delicious, service is fast and the prices are really honest. Hopefully this place stays the same!

Yelp
This place is a gem. Their sandwiches, pastries, cookies, and pretty much everything is delicious. What makes it better is that it is very affordable. Perfect to grab a quick bite during the day or a quick lunch. This place needs more reviews!

Yelp
A go-to lunch spot for anyone working in the area. I wish they were open on weekends! Very fair priced sandwiches, pre-prepared food and products imported from Italy. Staff is very friendly and although the line can sometimes go out the door, it moves fast because they are so efficient. It is like a smaller and better version of Cavillaro.

Yelp
Gotta be the best coffee shop/sandwich spot in Old Montreal. Great coffee, delicious food at unbeatable prices (especially when you compare it to overpriced tourist trap O&G). Not to mention the super friendly staff. 5 stars!!

Yelp
Great spot to grab a coffee or a quick bite for lunch. Also they carry a nice supply of Italien staples for cooking as well. The owners are there every day working hard and have a smile on their face to greet you. Much rather support a local business then go to starbuck!

Yelp
Great, super cheap place to grab lunch from! Their selection varies but their sandwiches and calzones are generally good and you can't beat the price and how nice the people who work there are. They always have smiles on their faces. It's also a little Italian market so you can buy a bunch of assorted Italian things. I don't drink the coffee, but I've heard it's solid.
