Distant Worlds Coffeehouse - Review - Ravenna/Roosevelt - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Coffee shops in Seattle don’t always have enough space to spread out for a long Wingspan session. But at Distant Worlds, there’s a big side room that allows for gamers to chill and drink lattes with nerdy names (we especially like the hazelnut-flavored She-Ra tribute "Hey Adora!"). Just check the calendar, since there are often events going on like speed dating." - Gabe Guarente

Ordered the pesto grilled cheese with gluten free bread and vegan cheese - $14.89 - it was so small, I finished it in 4 bites. The vegan cheese was generic, sub par quality and the pesto was basically non existent. When i asked for extra pesto, they gave me a teaspoonful 5 mins (300 seconds) later, by then my sandwich was cold and the cheese rubber-y. They say their products are priced to give their employees a living wage, so does that imply they’ll skimp on product quality and quantity? I feel looted. And hungry. I can easily get a GF vegan meal from Next Level Burger right next-door for less than $14, with similar quality ingredients - its way more wholesome. Their coffee menu seemed good, but I didn’t try any.

Google
First off, 5/5 for coffee. It is incredible and excellent. I love their large selection of syrups. Large open area, it's very Seattle-core. It seems to be a boardgame gathering spot so can be busy on weekends. Friendly service, cleanliness is probably on the 4.5/5 side, quite a lot of crumbs on the tables when I looked. Wouldn't recommend their egg and cheese toast. It's nothing special and for $9 I feel you can get better food next door at the whole foods hot bar

Quiet, chill cafe. Blood orangeade in soda was amazing. All the art and pins/magnets/stickers for sale was really cute. You could pick up a book or board game here for some chill hang out time.

Google
Coffee was very good, I tried the house made honey cardamom flavor. Was just the right amount of sweetness , loved the drink No excessive tipping since the prices include the tips already .

I’ve been going to this nerdy coffee shop even through changes of management for the last 10 years or so. The people are gold. This space is queer owned and LGBTIA+ welcoming, it has a nerdy theme everywhere, and it is so fun to order a drink! They have rotating local art on the walls but also have a merch section with mugs, stickers, magnets, and more. They carry milk alternatives and have delicious bakery items. They’re tip free to support their employees and it’s refreshing to just see a price and not worry about calculating tip at the end. Finally, they have the best community events space. Check out their calendar in the shop for the ways they are connecting your local community. It’s all a short walk from the Roosevelt light rail station.

Fantastic locally owned geek themed coffee shop. Very Queer friendly, I always feel super safe here.

If you're worried about whether this will live up to your geeky wishes, don't, it's very geeky. Specifically has a millenial taste in geek stuff, Firefly, the Princess Diaries, ect. With lots of art to buy and a calendar of events. That last point is important outside of the fact that it's just nice to have community, the space is made to for people to hang out it, not just buy coffee and get out. Theres a big group hanging out at 9 30 on a monday laughing and having a good time, but in the other side of the café it's muffled enough to quietly read (or write a review). It's huge and cozy at once. But if you do just want to get coffee and go the coffee is very good and so are the pastries. I particularly like the coffee cake. It's got a very home made sense to it which is to me better than the kind you typically get at bakeries and obviously better than factory made. It's head and shoulders above the other shops nearby which all feel like Apple stores.

Such a unique usage of space. Excellent establishment to play a favorite game or discover a new one

Yelp
This is a neighborhood gem Its rare for a cafe to make a good matcha latte, and they have a variety of other drinks to offer too. They also sell a lot of local artworks! The staff is always friendly and nice to talk to. They also don't ask for tips since their workers get paid livable wage. I usually come here if I need to get a good study session in. Great vibes!

Yelp
Loved this eclectic, geek-themed coffee shop! I came here recently in between work visits in the area and am glad I did. I had an oat milk toasted marshmallow latte and loved it! So flavorful without being too sweet. They offer a variety of pastries, largely vegan options. And to some it might seem expensive, but they pay their staff a living wage and do not take tips - love! I hung out and read for about an hour and wasn't rushed out or felt like I was lingering too long!

Yelp
This place is so cozy and has so much room if you need to work on your laptop. I especially loved all the board games that you can grab and play. The coffee I ordered was decent, I look forward to visiting again!

Yelp
A bustling geek-themed coffee shop across from Whole Foods. I've tried a few things here, including Rocinante, Inigo Montoya, and Polgara. I don't have a particular favorite as they all more or less taste the same to me. Because most cofffee in Seattle is strong, the flavored lattes here feel much more sweet and watered down. I like how they have ample seating and lots of geek merch to purchase. I feel that every time I visit it only gets busier, but there's plenty of seats to go around!

Yelp
Adorable coffee house on Roosevelt Way NE just a couple of blocks south of N. 65th Street. Their cupeth overfloweth with amazing vegan options!! The vegan version of their egg breakfast sandwich was "on point", especially as we added the eggplant bacon, really providing the sandwich a lovely "crisp". If you get this sandwich, I highly recommend you add the eggplant bacon, you'll thank me later! We also couldn't resist the temptation to try their Irish Savory Hand Pie, delicious flaky crust, while the inside was melt in your mouth soft and lovely. I'm a big time sucker for a good Golden Milk and theirs (I had them add Oat Milk) did NOT disappoint. Admittedly, I felt a bit guilty to take my first sip ... lest I ruin their lovely coffee art work, but my gluttony eventually got the best of me and ... gulps ... were to be had! The ambiance was awesome, so much to look at, artwork for sale, board games to fly, various themes are represented ... Star Wars, Firefly, Star Trek, etc. Overall, very charming coffee house with delicious food and coffee!

Yelp
Homely coffee shop in Greenlake. Large communal set up with large tables, so likely you will have to share. Pros: -Love the eclectic decor -The Golden Milk Latte ($7 for 12 oz, +$1 for hemp milk) was delicious. -Good, fast Wi-Fi. Cons: -Strange, Musty Smell

Yelp
Sweet little spot, has lots of character. Not a ton of seating but they're not usually too too crowded. My iced mocha was good, but getting an iced drink in a mug was kinda weird lol.

Yelp
The food was awesome! I tried the raspberry lemon loaf. I also really loved the drinks I had - the tardis and the pogari. They also can customize things pretty well too with milk and sizing and such. The servers were very helpful and kind. They also were great at recommendations and very friendly. The ambiance was pretty cool - lots of folks meeting up or working or playing games. I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
I came here for a tarte pop-up event and ended up spending an extra hour or two hanging out at the café, finishing up work. The staff was super friendly, answered a few questions I had and overall quality of my latte was. I love the charming ambience, the café, and all the fun geeky memorabilia. There were plenty of tables and a decent Wi-Fi connection, perfect for remote work. I also noticed they had a bookshelf full of board games, which would seem like a great place to meet up with friends. Can't wait to come back here.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, pretty chill, but they did kick out half the shop's seated people for an unexpected event one and a half hours before closing. I understand hosting events and reserving space, but it was a sudden "we have an event coming up and need you all to clear this area." No signage or notice beforehand which was unfortunate. Had to find another cafe to finish up work but had I known, I would have just went to the other spot. On the bright side, street parking is plenty available. Wifi available with a medium level of seating. Iced Matcha - besides the experience, the iced matcha was just alright. The matcha was not ground finely which left some larger particles of powder. They do allow you to opt for sweetened matcha but I went with unsweetened. Outside of the powder, the matcha flavor was decent and there was a fair balance of milk to matcha.

Yelp
This is a geeky-themed coffee shop with both themed and classic cafe drinks, appealing to patrons of all interests. For food, there are vegan and vegetarian options. The main room has cozy couches and a few small tables with plenty of natural light, while a room to the side has large tables perfect for groups. Plenty of folks taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi as well. I got the golden milk latte ($6) and the Hot Chik'n Sandwich ($12). Latte was delicious and with an impressive layer of foam -- hard to do with plant milks! -- but I found the sandwich small and not quite living up to the "hot" designation. Par for the course for pre-made fake meats though, and Seattle overall. I wish they could have provided condiment packets, even some mustard would've livened things up. This place has a great local "third place" ambiance. My only complaint about the vibes was the baristas' attitude. They seemed overall unhappy to be there, which I get as someone who works in the industry, but one doesn't need to say it *so* audibly and within earshot of customers!

Yelp
Great cafe to work from home! Polite staff and wide selection of drinks, both hot and iced. Very big space inside, quiet, and nice background music.

Yelp
We wished time would have allowed for us to get a full meal here as the vegan sandwich options looked delicious! Nonetheless, we grabbed a wonderful baked granola bar and enjoyed it for 2 days. Also picked up some coffee to go. Both were great! Nice relaxing setting with interesting items on display.

Yelp
Distant Worlds Coffeehouse is a themed coffee shop. They have a website with menu, which is a big plus in my book. Their specialty beverages are named after characters from books, movies and TV shows. I tried two "fandom in a cup" beverages: Tardis (blueberry, Irish cream) $6 for 20oz Princess Leia mocha (rose, white chocolate) $5.25 Both beverages tasted really good; blueberry mixed well with Irish cream and rose flavor was very subtle in Princess Leia. Both drinks were not overly sweet. The baristas were friendly. The cafe had a couple of bookshelves with books and games. They also have stickers, posters, and mugs for sale. I think they are dog friendly, because I saw dog treats on the condiment table, but i am not sure.

Yelp
The coffee's good, the baked items are alright, and if you want inept baristas, this place is for you. I ordered at the counter right away, and my coffee took 10 minutes to make. People who came in after me were served first, so when I asked if my cappuccino got lost, the response was a dismissive "I'm making it right now." At least she didn't add "You're welcome".

Yelp
Everything about Distant Worlds is worth the visit. The coffee is delicious, there's vegan pastries you can't find anywhere else, and the staff is the opposite of the Seattle freeze. So much kindness and joy every time I come here.

Yelp
Stopped in for a drip coffee. The coffee was delicious, and the atmosphere was nice. It's specifically a great place for getting work done.

Yelp
This is a really great place to study, read, or meet up with people. They're open 8-6 every day and there is a good amount of seating but it did get full on a Saturday afternoon and strangers had to share tables. Their menu is very extensive with tons of fun flavors to try. I had the coconut macaroon latte but as a mocha instead, which was delicious. There's free wifi and also tons of free board games to play.

Yelp
The TARDIS latte here is goated. It is a great drink with slight blueberry notes and backed by great coffee. Highly recommend the shop for a sit-down to do work or play a few board games with friends. Roosevelt folks are blessed with Distant Worlds

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and I work across the street from Distant Worlds, but this was my first visit. Imagine my delight to discover that this is a nerdy queer owned inclusive coffeehouse AND their coffee is great! The person who took my order was very nice and helpful and the turnaround time to get my drink was quick! The whole place is very cozy, with large and small tables and a cozy upholstered chair nook to enjoy your time. In my time there I witnessed strangers willingly and happily sharing their tables with others, and others switching tables to give larger parties the ability to sit together. Very friendly welcoming environment... I can't wait to run over on a workday to get a quick pick me up when the afternoon slump hits!

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. Extremely rude owner. My partner was excited to show me a coffee shop I had never been to and she was incredibly out of line. My partner asked her how her day was and she said "not great." Okay, maybe she's having a bad day. However next, she scoffed when he asked for iced tea and acted like he should've known they stopped serving that in September. When my partner ordered a cold brew, she asked what size and he said regular not knowing the sizes. She said "that's not an answer" and sarcastically laughed. I declined to order anything because of how rude she was. While waiting for the cold brew, she was screaming at the top of her lungs for someone to grab a pastry that evidently someone didn't hear was ready. I would never recommend giving this place your money.

Yelp
Nice little queer coffee shop at an unexpected corner :) Very reasonable prices for Seattle and they recently just switched to a tip-free system.

Yelp
Distant World's windows just hit different. The natural lighting in that puppy is better than the amazon rainforest.

Yelp
Great ambience, it's very cozy with lots of art. The drinks are very nice, and service is prompt! I will absolutely be coming back here :)

Yelp
Very cool place. Staff was friendly and good music. on the radio atmosphere was nice and coffee was really good. Parking out too bad for Seattle standards. I definitely plan to go back.
