"District 9 Draught Haus, a new German-themed beer spot will open just east of White Rock lake at 718 North Buckner Boulevard. The beer slingers are Dana and Andy Thompson, the latter being the guitarist for the now-defunct 1990s Dallas alt-rock band Buck Pets. Andy is a home brewer with a penchant for German lagers and bratwurst, therefore the new spot will feature 28 taps of lagers, maibocks, helles lagers, altbier, bocks and double bocks, along with German-themed eats. Look for District 9 to open in mid-November." - Alaena Hostetter

German and German-styled beers plus German-styled food. What's not to love about that? All that's missing is an oompah band and pretty girls in drindls! Arriving when it was quiet, I enjoyed a beer and then a meal. A fantastic pilsner poured in the proper glass. After that one was gone, I let the bartender talk me into dinner. I chose the "plated" schnitzel and she suggested that I have the mushroom gravy on the side. Wow, that was a great idea. I got to have bites of this wonderful pork plain and then have bites with the gravy. The small arugula salad on the side was ideal. A bit later, a second beer. So many to choose from on tap and in tins and in bottles but I chose a German import draft and it was perfection. From the world's oldest brewery, Weihenstephan Kristallweissbier. Just beautiful. Friendly folks and maybe they'll see this. Stephanie was a delight and Adam was fun to talk to. Sitting out front and watching the sunset while sipping a beer was most pleasant. As the place fills up, it does get quite loud. It's all smooth walls that reflect sound so some baffles would really help. This is such a friendly and fun joint. Clearly a local favorite and I can see why.

We ordered take out. It's been a while since I had German food. Absolutely delicious! I had the spicy chicken sausage, it's very flavorful. I'm quite impressed with the side of potato chips too, crispy good.

Google
Excellent! Great beer selection. I even found a blackberry cider that I really enjoyed. Small, well curated German inspired menu. Pretzel with pub cheese and mustard was spot on! Split the patty melt. Grilled so well! The pickles were delicious, our awesome waiter brought us a few extra. Thanks friend! Staff was friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was relaxed. Televisions going, music was loud but not too loud. Great spot to hang out for a drink and a bite!

Google
We’ve been meaning to try this place for a while and I’m glad we finally did! Great German beer, pretzel, and bratwurst. It’s not badly priced and service was good. Will be returning to try more!

Google
Place was amazing. Extremely hesitant at first, but that quickly changed after meeting the friendly staff. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Amazing beer. I am glad we ended up at this place and expect to return with more friends.

Google
Highly recommend this place!! Excellent beer selection, friendly welcoming service and the food is always great!!!

Google
An excellent space for German beer and food! The schnitzel sandwich is amazing! The pretzel is different and wheatier than ones I've had before but very good. Mustard is stone ground but not as horseradishy as I would've liked but that's a personal preference. Prices are also reasonable including good prices on growler fills and you can check the beer list online.

Google
This place was amazing the beer selection was huge, the food wait was a little long but it was sooo worth the wait, the portion size for the price is great, the staff is friendly, I’ll definitely be back with friends

Yelp
Great friendly service, good beer and chill atmosphere :). I want to go back and try some food

Yelp
Nice menu and beer selection. Would have loved to have actually ordered. Waited at bar and two people who came in after me went to the register and were served, so I assumed that was the protocol. Got in line there. Finally made it through the line and was ignored to wait on bar customers. :/ no one greeted anyone on arrival so was hard to tell what the system there was. Waited about 15 minutes without being spoken to at all. Understandable if it was packed, but it was not. Ambiance was good. Clean. Lots of wood. Not crowded at all.

Yelp
Good Food Great Service Excellent Beer Selection - Great place for Military Vets and us Retirees.

Tina N.

Yelp
Good variety of beer! Parking is easy. Vegan bratwurst and potato salad exceed my expectations!

Sandeep G.

Yelp
Good food, a great selection of beers on tap, excellent service, what else do you need? The restaurant is tucked in a strip mall on Buckner Blvd close to the Dallas Arboretum and offers German Food. The menu is limited but specialized. The best thing about the menu is that whatever your dietary restriction you will find something. Good find and hope to be back next time we visit the Arboretum

Yelp
If you feel like burgers, brats, and beer, this is the place to go. Old family recipe for the brats make for great brats. Also a nice choice of wines and fresh salad if bagged potato chips are not your favorite side.

Judy P.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood bar with a great selection of beers on tap. Friendly bartenders and a fun vibe especially on Wednesday night when select wines by the glass are 1/2 price. I've bumped into neighbors, former students, former coworkers and new friends here. Great prices. Good food. Lotsa FUN.

Ian B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to drop in for a beer. 40 rotating taps, always something to try in a variety of flavors/types of beer. The bartenders are great people and fun to talk to. The place has the look and feel of a pub, with German beer-themed posters / art. The burger is one of my favorites in Dallas. I recommend subbing out the thousand island for the rooster sauce if you like a little heat.

Jimmy K.

Yelp
Great place for a tasty beverage or bite to eat. The bar offers multiple options for beer on tap and their menu board is easy to read the different styles of beer. The pretzel and schnitzel sandwich were fantastic. There are several tables inside or some seating at the bar. The staff is friendly and informative.

Scott B.

Yelp
A nice selection of beers here plus a few wines for non-beer drinkers. The community Snickerdoodle ale was refreshing. Cold pour and worth a stop just for the varieties they offer. Decent looking food, but I didn't try any. It's located in a strip mall with plenty parking.

Yelp
We dropped in on a late Saturday afternoon for a beer around 3pm, we wanted a bit of a snack since it was between lunch and dinner so my husband ordered a soft pretzel with the pub cheese and mustard and I ordered a dessert since I have a sweet tooth and their beer selection is always on point. His pretzel came out nice and hot, fresh out of the oven and the pub cheese that it comes with is so good....I always sneak a piece of his pretzel with cheese when he orders it. One of these days I'll get my own. Now on to my dessert, I got the Apfelkuchen, pronounced "apfel-kooken" for those not fluent in German like me. It is a completely lovely apple cake that is filled with apples, cinnamon and sweetness. This cake is served cold and although I love a warm dessert, this cake was perfectly chilled and all of the flavors still sing. I love how the top of the cake has apple slices that fan out, the cake itself is very moist and dense, served with a bourbon whipped cream that was a perfect companion to the warm spices present.

Yelp
Came here for the vegan brat! Checked out the bathrooms first & they're clean! For some reason I thought this place would be bigger but it's decent size, cozy, but plenty of tables of various sizes and plenty of bar seats. Service is friendly & prompt even though it was just the bartender & cook when I was there. There are 25-30 beers on tap & a taste is offered if you're not sure about a full glass. The vegan brat is by Beyond so it was solid - served on a pretzel bun with plenty of mustard & kraut on the side & served with chips. I also ordered a side salad (make sure to specify no cheese or croutons for vegan) which, for the $7 price, was larger than I expected. No frills on the salad but the tomato slices looked like they'd been deseeded which was odd. Balsamic vinaigrette was the only vegan option and it was just so-so. Overall, a good lunch for a decent price & I'd come back.

Yelp
Been so long since I had authentic style German Food since I left Wisconsin. But now I know where to go!! Great Place!!

Lovelife D.

Yelp
Great food and sharables like hot pretzels and cheese boards. This is a very casual unique Dallas jaunt. I like the German European twists on things and they have a great selection of beers and wines on tap. It's a fun casual smaller place and we love it. Good customer service too. The simple food of mostly thoughtful sandwiches are prepared like the chef is making it for himself or a good friend, with care. We really enjoy this place and have brought our out of town family and friends when we have the choice of many other spots.

Yelp
This place is a delight for the white rock area. Every other restaurant in this outlet strip is either fairly heavy or gonna take some time to receive your order. I came here on a Saturday around 3pm. There were at least two customers in the place at all times. Their beer selection caters specifically to what youd see in Germany, from German brands like Paulander to traditional style beers like hefeweizens, doppelbocks, and even a generous selection of wine. Food wise, this place is quite scaled down. Theres a chance you may not be in the mood for anything on the menu, but from what I had, it was all a solid presentation. I ordered a meat and cheese plate, which comes with a pretzel, some nuts, and pickles. For my partner and I, this was just the right amount of food for an afternoon snack. I was tempted to order their beef stuffed grilled cheese sandwiches, but I knew I would feel bloated. They have a modest offering of sausages, and the cheese that come with it match with everything. The pretzel was way better than I thought it would be! Soft on the inside, with a delicate, but sturdy exterior to give off this pillowy chew. For the moment, they also have an apple pie/cake callled an Apfelkuchen. We ordered it cause there was no cream involved. This dessert was fantastice! Apparantly they collaborate with a bakery, so this is made locally. It comes out cold, but its quite refreshing on a hot summers day. I can imagine its also delicious warm, but its quite pleasant even when cold. Soft, gooey, yet still has that glutinous cake feel, all surrounded by fresh apples. While I feel like I have to be in the right mood, or just finished biking, this place is a great option for a casual weekend afternoon hangout.

Yelp
Great food and even better beers! Reminded me of my family's home town in Germany. The schnitzel is amazing and the patty melt or Rachel's cousin are the top items. Beer cheese is meh, but the pretzel is good. Also best prices for take home growlers around!

Bret T.

Yelp
Uncommon oasis, but as a father of 2 and enjoys a nice selection of beer and my wife a few great selection of wine, this is an amazing place to gets drinks and dinner. Great German brats and Bavarian potatoes are the way to go! The staff is always awesome and at the ready. If it's to catch a game on the screens or have dinner I highly recommend this establishment!

Jen P.

Yelp
My son and I stopped in to this pub to have a beer and warm up after a cold 20 mile bike ride around White Rock Lake and the surrounding parks. When you first walk in it seems rather dark and dive-y, but the more you look around you see that it is anything but. The staff makes it even more comfortable and friendly, which is a huge bonus. We weren't really planning to order food but when the people at the table next to us got some it smells so good, and looked so delicious that we had to order. My son got a brat and I got a pretzel. We also split a beer cheese soup. All three were 100% delicious. I would go back to this pub anytime I am in Dallas visiting my son and he said that he would be back on his own before then! Severe selection was above par and we each had two. Both of mine were Hefeweissen with that rich, wheaty banana note so common in a GOOD Hefeweissen! Can't wait to go back and bring my husband because I know he would love it as much as we did!! It also seems like a good place to stop and watch a game.

Yelp
I continue to get surprised by the hidden in plain sight spots that have great craft beer. @mictar post a picture of German spread and I wanted to jump through my phone. I begged can this be the next location for. @_dfwab_ meet up. Munich Germany was my first international trip. Probably the first time I had beer (sorry Mom), but High School Senior are of age there. Sadly, the only love I came back with has been the love of tulips. It took years later what I had the opportunity to drink. Kölsch style is one of my 1st picks when browsing a beer list. @district9dh also has a nice spread of German nosh to pair with a beer. It was filling and that was a small . Pictured is Fruh Kölsch Cologne, Germany 4.8% It was night and refreshing beer and subtle sweetness. Then, our friends at @intrinsicbrewing in good ol' Garland, TX had a wonderful Uka Uka Pineapple/Coconut Sour IPA 7.5 A knockout and so lovely. These Sours slipping in IPA element is winning me over. Just slick and on the verge of me putting it on my beer DNA #Craftbeer #beerstagram #notjustbeer #blackgirlbloggers #dfwblackbloggers #dallasblogger #dallasfoodieblogger #dallasfoodie #drinklocal #casalinda #whiterock #kölsch #germanbeer #beergeek #instadallas #instadfwffdallasisdallas #thingstodoindallas #garlandbeer #intrinsicbeer #ntxbeer

Yelp
I saw the "New Yelper" love for this place and with my love of good German beer and Gasthaus food, this became a destination to give it a try. My taste buds were begging! It is almost hidden if you come in from Buckner. The parking lot is huge! The signage is very visible once you get into the lot. As you walk in, you can see the 36 taps on the wall. The menu board is on the adjoining wall to the right with names, breweries, alcohol percentages and pricing options. Also on on the wall are the food, snack and dessert options. I was more than a little disappointed to only see 2 German brewed beers, Bitburger Pils and Paulaner Salvator. They are well known to Americans. I settled for the Lakewood bourbon barrel Temptress. I'm more of a Pilsner drinker, and I've tried to drink the Bitburger Brauerei dry too many times and still burnt out a bit 36 years later. No Bitte ein Bit for me... Seriously, they do have many of the top regional favorite small breweries on tap. The local ones were well represented. Just none my snobby nose and tongue get excited over. The food menu looked interesting. I opted for the pork Schnitzel sandwich with butterkäse and Jägersoße (buttercheese and mushroom gravy). It was good, but the roll over whelmed the flavors. Perhaps more gravy and mushrooms could have offset as it was somewhat dry. The prices are not cheap, but reasonable for the quality. The service is very friendly, accommodating, and prompt. The staff is obviously wanting to build the business. The establishment is clean and modern. Of course it is quite new. While not authentic German, it will keep most American beer drinkers coming back for more. The owners are putting an effort into making this one make it. I'll be back to try the wursts and snacks for sure!

Denise H.

Yelp
Loved our meat & cheese board. It was a first try as a German approach Board so overall it was interesting. The only con was the cheese. It is more of a cheese wiz flavor instead of a beer cheese which would have been a better cheese dip for the pretzel. The schnitzel was well breaded and cooked. The side of arugula was a refreshing and made the overall meal feel light while drinking our craft beers.

Mariella T.

Yelp
Friendly staff, vegan bratwurst tastes exactly like how bratwurst should taste like. Accommodating to tv channel changes when watching sports (euros)! Great food and atmosphere

Jazz F.

Yelp
Great food for takeout! Salad was really big. Everything was perfectly packaged and ready on time.

Bob L.

Yelp
I've only been to District 9 three times since they opened even though it's within a few blocks of my house. Mainly so because our neighborhood is blessed with an abundance of great places to eat. And, to be honest, all I've had is the beer and the Reuben. So, that's both the limit of this review and it's scope. First the beer. They don't skimp on the beer. Most recently I had the Reissdorf Kolsch from the birthplace of kolsch, Cologne, Germany. And although there are a number of good kolsch style beers out there (I'm talking to you Oak HighlandsBrewery) it was very satisfying to have the authentic "real deal." Kudos for that. Their other beers seem to be on a similar level. A good mix of local, regional and international brews. Next the Reuben. Perfect. Served on toasted marble rye with a hint of garlic in the butter ( or was it my imagination?). Tender corned beef both tasty and a little salty. Plenty of dressing and including kettle chips and a pickle slice. One of the best Reubens I've ever had. Service was friendly and efficient. And since it was a to go order due to the COVID-19 pandemic I appreciate that the to go box was sturdy and recyclable. All in all a top notch experience. I'll be back but I'll have trouble getting past the Reuben.

Robert D.

Yelp
Great experience. Very friendly on the phone when making a reservation and equally friendly staff in person. Food and suggestions were fantastic. Can't wait to go back. Fun vibe inside and the best German food in town!

Vincent R.

Yelp
Second time here; bartender remembered what I drink! He greets most people by name which speaks to both great service and regulars. Despite being very busy service was amazing. My togo food was carefully packaged-sauces on the side without asking. Side salad is so inexpensive and the tomatoes aren't mushy and the greens were crisp and no sign of brown or knife fatigue. Absolutely recommend!

Cathy K.

Yelp
We tried this place out when it first opened a few years ago. They were totally overwhelmed and it took about 45 minutes to get our food. Under the circumstances we were understanding. Fast forward to today. We thought we'd give it another try since we are big craft beer fans. The beer was good and served promptly. We ordered food at the same time. Again..... the food took forever - about 30 minutes this time. People who arrived after us were served before we were, and it was not a busy night. My companion had to go to the bar to ask for the check and pay the bill. With so many craft beer places to choose from, District 9 needs to step it up. Unfortunately we won't be back.

Kim W.

Yelp
Potato pancake, D9 Pork Schnitzel Plate, Sausage and Cheese Boards Great food will Definitely go back

Amy C.

Yelp
Great environment, staff and beer. They always go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great experience. If anything, I wish they had some good lighter food options but Rachel's Cousin is a 10/10

James S.

Yelp
Nice place to grab a beer and food. Good variety German and local craft beers. Really liked the Hacker-Pschorr Helles and the Reuben sandwich. Prices were very reasonable and the service was friendly. Will definitely return when I'm back in D. Don't forget to bring your growler, believe most fills were $12-14 for 64oz.

Brad J.

Yelp
Can't recommend enough. The staff is great. They walked us through the beer menu. I gave two insights to my taste and received 6 recommendations. That happens at a lot of places. However, here at District 9, the bartender gave me 6 recommendations in order of what I would be most likely to enjoy, and 4 were beers I've never had (and I REALLY like beer). I loved the new recommendations. We had the large shareable plate, which equates to a German-style charcuterie. As a fan of meat and cheese, this was perfect. The sausages were great, the pretzel was amazing, and they had perfect pairings of cheese and fruit. The atmosphere was casual. There is a bar top for a quick beer, or you can grab a table and high chairs for your family. Beer drinkers will be in heaven with, what I would contend, is the most diverse selection in the area, but for those that prefer wine, they have 8 great options for the local vino. To top it all off, this place is in a parking lot with the area's top treasures. Please come support this local business and all of its deliciousness. Footnote: the bartender "prophesied" the orders of us and 2 other couples.

Nayna A.

Yelp
Love District 9! We get takeout from here a couple of times a month and the folks there are always super kind and give great recommendations on new things to try on the menu. The pretzel and pub cheese are incredible along with the schnitzel. The beer selection is super and we make sure to always get a growler when we go too! So happy we have this awesome spot in East Dallas.

Debz N.

Yelp
We are so glad this place is in the neighborhood. My hubby loves craft beers and so this is especially great for him. He loves to fill his growler here. Their food is DELICIOUS and I'm gonna say it.. Their Reuben is the best in the city for real!! My hubby loves a Reuben sammich (I like them but am less inclined to order one) Well, twice now I have had one from here and it is UH-MAY-ZING. Seriously, Id put it up against any other in town for the win. Try it, see if I'm wrong... (P. S... I'm not ) Oh and, got a sweet tooth? Dana's chocolate pot is amazing. I think it's a family recipe? (if I remember rightly) They need us more than ever now, order pick up if you can (so they don't lose a bunch of money to the delivery service)

Kenny F.

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a Friday evening to try it out. It was pretty packed, found the last 2 seats at the time, but quickly more opened up throughout the night. I had the pretzel and Rueben sandwich, both were fresh and hot and very tasty. My friend had the bratwurst in pretzel bun and Chocolate Pot de Creme. The wurst was juicy and good flavor and the chocolate was very rich and perfect size portion, not huge! Then on to the beer selection. Think trying to order the right food was hard, their selection was spot on. I ended up with BrainDead Gemütlich (Märzen) 5.1% - 16 oz, Manhattan Project Wise Monkeys (Belgium Golden Strong) 10% - 12 oz, Founders Backwoods Bastard (Bourbon Aged Scotch Ale) 11% - 9 oz, and Prairie 2018 Christmas Bomb (Imperial Stout) 13% - 9 oz. When we decided it was time to go, I bought their large growler (64 oz) and took some Pegasus City Big D Jamboree (Festbier) 6.3% - to go! Definitely will be back for more!!

Nic Z.

Yelp
This place is just around the corner so we visit it when we can. They have a good selection of beers to choose from. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. They even have vegetarian options. I like the vegan bratwurst and the sauerkraut.

Chris M.

Yelp
It's a big NOPE for us. When we walked in we were not even greeted. The waitress was nice enough when she did get to us even though it was not busy. We ordered the schnitzel plate and all we received was something that should have closed this place down: a luke-warm pork chop with dandelion leaves as a salad and cold mushroom gravy. Still, we ate it, but sad to say the schnitzel was only seasoned with black pepper and some salt. I was stationed in Germany and know what schnitzel taste like. There are two other places that actually do it right, but unfortunately this is not one of them. We should have ran when there were burgers on the menu. Anyways, it took forever to get the receipt.

Nora H.

Yelp
Still loving this place. Quite literally the best grilled cheese and tomato soup I've ever had. Ordered it to go and it was still HOT when I got home over 10mins later. Love that they have rotating soups. Can't wait to order again!

Steve S.

Yelp
Best reuben in Dallas, perfectly balanced with all components, with a generous pile of meat- all yours for $13. $5 local draft beers, and clean, bright interior- this place is a winner, testing the support levels of a marginal neighborhood location where they mst become a destination in order to succeed. Alfonso's has pulled it off for decades, and District 9 has a solid shot of doing the same.

Michael K.

Yelp
Dropped in for a beer and snack. Excellent beer selection, but I expected more German beers to be available. Bratwurst was served in a pretzel roll with a side of chips, sauerkraut, and mustard. Overall very good experience, nice interior and service. BTW, John R. Is an idiot for leaving a one star review. Seeing as he's never left a business a review giving greater than one star, that should tell you all you need to know. Suck it John, and have a nice life.

Mark M.

Yelp
First time been here it was excellent food beer waiter great will be back

Rikki E.

Yelp
After coming back from Oktoberfest in Munich, we've been craving some great brats and beers. We tried District 9 Draught House on a Sunday afternoon and it went from a few people to a great crowd in just a short time and the bartender did an incredible job keeping everyone happy and refilled with quick service. We ordered the pretzel with mustard and cheese along with the pork schnitzel sandwich and some cold beers, all were awesome and exceeded my expectations. The sandwich was big enough to split between 2 of us. The menu is short and sweet offering some great brats, sandwiches and snacks. They have an awesome selection of beers available. This place is a perfect fit for the neighborhood super laid back and casual with a cool atmosphere. We will definitely be frequent visitors here so happy to have this in East Dallas!

Bryan W.

Yelp
Not sure how 1 star was given. The place is very nice inside with very clean RR. The Reuben was solid. Good beers and staff was great!

Dena F.

Yelp
There were zero space aliens. I mean--District 9 was a great movie and I expected there to at least be one bonafide UFO type alien in the place. It was just a bunch of German food and beer. There was a ton of beer! And a cider. But the stand out is the pretzel. I'm a huge fan of the soft salty pretzels served with pub cheese (kinda like Cheez Whiz, maybe what Cheez Whiz is trying to do but better.) We had said pretzel on the smaller meat and cheese tray: one werst, 3-pc each of two cheeses, apple, nuts, mustard. I didjn't ask if the sausage was housemade, but it was good enough that I'd believe it, if they told me it was. We also had the pork schnitzel sandwich--big enough for two people easily. It was really yummy. Loved the butter cheese and gravy. I should have asked for more gravy on the side. Service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and joked around with you. They were super busy and still made time to be really personable. Parking is great since it's in a strip mall. Place is tight, so if you can go a little early, I recommend. Also, you order at the bar. Belly up to the register and order your food when you are ready. The only thing I would like them to add is horseradish butter. It would be amazing on the kettle chips that come out with the sandwich. I know a place on Lower Greenville that has said butter and it would be a nice touch. And yes, I know they are located in District 9. IT WAS A JOKE, MAN, CHILL.

Weston W.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible neighborhood spot for tons of beers and terrific German food/ sandwiches.

Sherry M.

Yelp
Guys- this place has the best Reuben I've ever had. Really chill vibe, great selection of beer and tasty grub.

Blankette G.

Yelp
Neighborhood pub within walking distance from my home in Old Lake Highlands. Friendly, neighborhood style tap house with some really unique offerings. They also have German style food pairings, braut, pretzels, some other tasty vittles! I love their root beer floats! I really think the staff here is welcoming and kind, the patrons are friendly neighborly approachable folks and you can bring your kids here for a grilled cheese or a hot dog! It's more family oriented, they always have a couple of different games on the television and they rotate the beers many of whom are local. You can also buy these huge bottles to take very home if you'd like, reasonably priced and a super great idea for gifts. I'm enjoying Draught Haus and stopping by more often now that it's getting warmer a cold beer is really gonna start hitting the spot. I love how it is not too crowded there too, just right!

Yelp
They have a huge selections of beers. The guys who work there know their beer well and are able to make some good recommendations. I've enjoyed both the schnitzel and brats here. The Henry's ice cream is so good. It's handmade by someone local. Sometimes we come here just for the ice cream.

Yelp
Great selection. Great people. Family run business that makes everyone feel welcome. Seriously, this is the best growler bar in Dallas.
