"This DMV chain offers all of its taco fillings — the grilled chicken is a winner — in burrito form. There’s also a mojado upgrade to get burritos covered in spicy salsa. Takeout and delivery, with dine-in at some locations." - Gabe Hiatt

Good food, good prices. Customized to individual liking. Even had choices including impossible meat. Eat them quickly before they get soggy.

Pretty average taco shop. It is fast casual, and I would say similar to Chipotle in a way. I tried a few different items: the build your own bowl with pollo asado, beans, rice, and vegetables, as well as the tacos with black beans, lettuce, and chicken. All of it was just average. Nothing impressive. I thought the portion for the bowl was very solid and filling. The chicken was decently fresh and well cooked. The vegetables were also pretty fresh. It didn’t have a ton of flavor, but not awful. The tacos were also just okay. It was kind of soggy, the lettuce added a bit of crunch to it. The chicken was once again, decent but not that flavorful. Nothing really special about these. All in all, it’s an okay spot for a quick meal, but not at all impressive. I won’t go back the next time I am in DC.

DT = shrinkflation. Don’t come hungry. $13 for three finger sized tacos. When they handed me the food I thought by the weight of it, they gave me the wrong order. I confirmed that yes, there were three tacos in there. I would have given it one star, but the six bites tasted good, it was easy to order, and reasonably fast service.

The food it’s delicious and the personal is so helpful and kind 👍🏻 I highly recommend this place

Google
Grabbed an early dinner here, and was overjoyed to find out they’d serve breakfast burritos later in the day. Service was pretty quick (loved being able to build our order at a kiosk), and the dining space upstairs had enough seating for the two of us. There was a bit of debris (dropped napkins & such) on the floor, and a few of the tables looked like they hadn’t been wiped up after a prior guest, but the kitchen (which you can see from upstairs) looked clean and well kept.

Google
Came for breakfast tacos based on reviews. Nice to have so much choice in toppings but the breakfast taco and burrito were dry dry dry!! Gotta smother it in salsa to be able to eat it without gagging. Disappointed. Generally tasty but probably won't come back unless I really need to scratch the taco itch and nothing else nearby.

Google
The breakfast taco here is the go-to attraction for me. This reminds me of home made breakfast tacos from San Antonio TX. I stopped in (but had to double park) and got 3 to go with chorizo- yes! The service was great and fast too. Self-service drink station made things quick also. Plenty of room to sit and enjoy as well.

Yelp
I was browsing the DoorDash app for some burrito recommendations near my house. I came across District Taco's famous breakfast burrito loaded with chicken, potatoes and eggs. It had great reviews. I ordered it with a side of spicy salsa. Delivery was great. The burrito was huge. Stuffed with lots of amazing things. I absolutely love the combination of chicken, potatoes and eggs in my burrito. They had rice and beans in it too. It was absolutely worth the price. It almost was worth two meals for me. Spicy salsa goes so well with the burrito.

Yelp
My friend and I were excited to come here since it's a local chain not found in NYC. We were really disappointed by this place, and it's not fully the restaurant's fault. We both ordered the three taco set. I don't know why it appealed to us so much. The bowls and burritos were cheaper options. I think we were intrigued by the unlimited toppings part. Unfortunately, the tacos came out subpar. Your custom choices would apply to all three tacos. The only difference is choosing what protein for each of the three. I got flour tortillas which were fine. My friend got corn tortillas and said they were really rough and dry. Unlimited toppings sounded like a cool idea, but it's not practical. The tortilla is only that small, so there's a physical limit to how much can fit. They wrap it well in foil, but it's messy when you open it to eat. There's some parts of the taco with certain toppings but not others. My "favorite" protein was the guac, because it provided much needed moisture throughout the taco. My other choices were: pollo and chorizo which were both dry and lower quality meat than Chipotle (how else to reference it?). The worst part of this experience was the seating area. It's upstairs with approximately 40 seats spread amongst square and long tables. I'm not familiar with the target customer for District Taco, but there multiple groups of 10+. Why did they think they can fit here and why are they not finding larger restaurants for their group? They somehow manage, but my friend and I got stressed out seeing such big groups in this cramped environment. We don't have anxiety, but I can imagine it triggering discomfort in other people too. There wasn't enough air circulation in that second floor either.

Yelp
I am writing this review because they were mopping the tiled floor during open hours (early afternoon). They had the wet floor signs up, but it's not like you can stand there until the floors dry. They do have two mats on the floor, but not enough to walk through without stepping on the wet floors. My daughter fell hard and cried. We waited for my husband to get out of the restroom and watched several people almost fall. The lady mopping seemed irritated, motioning to the sign as if it were possible to get through without stepping on the floor. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The food was blah, not terrible, not good, mediocre at best. The tiny dining area upstairs and restrooms were dirty. No A/C - better off sitting outside.

Yelp
Food was fine One employee was kinda rude Smelled good tho (ambiance) Overall hella over priced (18 dollars for a drink and a bowl)

Yelp
This place has definitely gone down in quality and portion size and went way up in price! This used to be a lunch staple for me. I had the app and would rack up points and looked forward to coming here. I've since deleted the app, and I'm not planning on redownloading it. It had been a while, so I recently stopped in to grab lunch. During lunchtime, it wasn't busy at all. That never used to be the case! I got a chicken bowl to go. The bowl was very skimpy, and the chicken lacked flavor. Won't be coming back and wasting my money in this place!

Yelp
My recent visit to District Taco left me with mixed feelings. Opting for the Beyond Meat tacos, I was eager to indulge in a flavorful plant-based option. The self-checkout process was efficient, perfect for a quick stop before catching a movie. The relaxed ambiance is a good place to stop after work for something quick. However, my anticipation was met with disappointment as the tacos lacked the robust flavor I've come to expect from Beyond Meat, especially since I frequently prepare it at home. What compounded my disappointment was the lack of filling in the tacos themselves. Instead of being generously packed with ingredients, they were predominantly filled with veggies, leaving me wanting more substance. On a positive note, the queso provided a redeeming quality, boasting a satisfying taste that complemented the meal. However, the accompanying chips fell short, lacking the essential seasoning of salt to elevate their flavor profile. While District Taco offers convenience and some commendable elements, such as the queso, there's ample room for improvement in terms of flavor balance and consistency.

Yelp
This place is actually in the running for best meal I had while in DC! I got a steak burrito with all the fixings. It was excellent. The steak was still extremely tender and flavorful while having crunchy char on the edges. The salsa options were all very unique with really decent heat for the two hot varieties I tried. The price is a bit high, $14 for a basic burrito and an upcharge of $3 for steak, but that's to be expected for a restaurant only a couple blocks from the Whitehouse. The place is pretty tight, but there is decent seating upstairs. The staff is actually very friendly, which is very rare for DC, so it was very noticeable that they cared about the cuatomers even though they were all likely tourists. TL;DR: Great food, a bit expensive.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying I love District Taco! There is nothing that compares to it where I live and I totally took advantage of that while in DC! It's quick, easy, and delicious! I love to order the three tacos with three different meats in each one. The amount of topping choices is also fantastic. There are so many customizable options. I especially love the Mexican chorizo meat. It has a perfect consistency and an addicting flavor. They also have a great freestyle machine to make drinks with. Not only do they have outdoor seating, but they also have another floor you can eat on. Sometimes it's also super convenient to get it to go as well, which they do a ton of business with it seems. If you are a fan of Mexican and craving it while in DC, I highly recommend District Taco. It will not disappoint.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Def recommend the fish tacos! I enjoyed them so much I almost forgot to take a picture. Their sauces are great! You can tell they are freshly made.

Yelp
I really like District Taco! It's a great option for when I want a delicious filling meal with little to no meat, and dairy free. Ive enjoyed the bowl, tacos, and the occasional chips with queso and guacamole. My friend ordered the alaskan pollock (fish) and didn't care for it-in which she described as lacking seasoning. My orders are always well packaged and sealed. And the numerous toppings offered are always fresh and tasty. I prefer them over chipotle because I don't have to order cheese or sour cream to make it tasty. highly recommend!!

Yelp
There is about 3-4 kiosk to order food from upon entry. It's very easy to navigate on the screen, and if your not tech savvy there is an employee that can assist to take your order as well. The hubs decided on the three tacos for $11, and I opted to build a taco. I would consider this our snack lol. The kiosk allowed us to customize our tacos, choice of meat, toppings, and salsa. The only meat that didn't have additional cost was bacon and chorizo. The pollo asado, carnitas, carne asado, itza, and grilled fish was a bit extra. My choice of meat was the chorizo, and the jefe way meaning it had vegetables in the topping. My better half meat choices for his three tacos was pollo asado and carnitas. Once the order has been paid and submitted it goes straight to the kitchen. They will call your name for pick up. The only seating available is outside the eatery with a few tables and chairs. Good luck on getting one when it's busy. The employees aren't one to have conversations so interactions are low. I have to say the build your own taco is a perfect size for those looking for a quick bite. It's not too small or large. The chorizo was flavorful and seasoned well. The jefe way of fresh veggies, shredded cheese on a soft warm flour tortilla was heaven. The hubs parted with one of his pollo asado tacos to me, and I must say the flavors, smokiness, tenderness of this chicken was addicting. Tacos are not for the carb conscious, and you can lose your keto battle eating this because you NEED the warm tortillas lol. We will be back especially of how good the quality of ingredients are, and the quickness of receiving the goods!!

Yelp
Tacos were bland and fell apart while eating. I'm from Texas sooo texmex is a specialty. The nachos were good ate them from my fiancé. Service was slow and seating was limited. Definitely a quick bite or Togo kind of place.

Daniel R.

Yelp
A totally serviceable taco/burrito place not far from the White House/Freedom Plaza. While it isn't particularly unique or outrageously tasty, it does the trick in a pinch!

Krystie D.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about District Taco. Walking in, the store is clean with large menus and order screens to get you going. They seemed busy and the staff was working like a well oiled machine. After ordering, sat outside where there are about 4 tables. That's when I noticed I was missing my guacamole. Talked to an employee and was immediately given my missing topping. So I appreciated the quick help during busy time. Now the food. It was just ok. Maybe it was the toppings I picked, but I didn't really get a lot of flavor. The small chips are a good serving so if eating alone or as a side for two, it's definitely enough. The portion on the bowl was great, so you won't leave hungry. Just wish there was more flavor. I'd try again with different toppings to see if it was a fluke. Overall, I didn't leave hungry but thinking it could have been better. ‍

Connor R.

Yelp
Great tacos, and very friendly service. Marinated chicken and Al pastor is always really solid.

Caroline L.

Yelp
Decent tacos, overstuffed and messy (the way I like them). Had 3 breakfast tacos and was pleased - but I had ordered jalapeños and they were left off. A good grab and go lunch spot

Andrew S.

Yelp
I ordered three tacos. Two chorizo and one carnitas. I was disappointed to be honest. They lacked any kind of real flavor which was surprising. I didn't even eat the entire last taco (Carnitas) because it was bland. I had them made with onions and cilantro with a side of salsa. Not enough salsa for all three tacos either.

Jon W.

Yelp
The tacos were okay, a bit moist/soggy due to the way they were wrapped and served. The service was also okay, a bit chaotic and it took about 25 minutes to get our food. The interior space has seating, but it seemed to fill up fast. I recommend takeaway for that reason. For the price and reviews, I expected more. I found the food to be underwhelming and overpriced.

Becca M.

Yelp
LOOOVE district taco omg. it's definitely kind of just a normal taco place but it always slays tbh. also, THE GUAC IS SO GOOD but i stay spending too much money here, especially since guac and chips is like $7 ouch.

Quin B.

Yelp
I randomly found this place at night when I was very hungry. I am so glad to have discovered District Taco. The restaurant was fairly quiet at 9pm and my desire was to have a good burrito. There are several computer stands to create your order and pay. I chose the burrito and selected pollo asado along with my preferred custom add-ons. I was served my burrito wrapped in foil and placed in a paper bag. I sat upstairs and unwrapped my burrito with excitement and took a couple of pics. The first few bites were amazing. The chicken was deliciously savory and satisfying. All of the several additions to my burrito worked well together as they competed to see who tasted the best. The burrito kicked my hunger in the a$$ and I only wish there was a District Taco where I lived.

Sandy S.

Yelp
The food is incredible, thanks to Yelp for the great reviews that landed us here for lunch! There are so many choices...protein, veggies, salsa, etc. Everything is fresh and is delicious! I'm addition, we had chips and queso to accompany our flavorful burrito bowls! So yummy and definitely a must visit!

Dominic C.

Yelp
The best thing I had were chips. The tocos were mediocre at best. They have touch screens to order. So you are better off ordering online. It was small and loud, very loud inside. Had to walk up stairs to sit if you can find a table you may have to share one with others. If you like tocos skip this one.

Athena A.

Yelp
Tacos in the city! District taco has been on my radar for some time now. I finally got to try what the hype was about. It's pretty good. There are tacos, breakfast and lunch or dinner, chips and salsa, nachos, and burritos. You order at the kiosk, grab your table and wait for your order. You can order ahead or at the counter if you choose to. The tacos are more of a build your own concept. There are a few favorite options to choose from if you're not sure what you'd like. There's a plethora of options to build your perfect taco. From bacon to chorizo, to pico to guacamole and more. There are three different salsas with their level of heat; 1, 2, 3 hot peppers to identify the level of hotness. Be sure to ask someone how hot the levels are. I skipped the spice this time. I went with carne asada tacos with pico, lettuce, tomato, corn and sour cream; in corn tortilla. I added a side of chips and guacamole. The tacos were delicious. The guacamole seemed fresh and tasty. Now for seating. There's outdoor seating at the front of the restaurant off the street and more indoor seating upstairs. Some people don't know about the seating upstairs and I think it's important to note. The customer service was good. I'd like to go back and try their nachos.

Allyson B.

Yelp
Unfortunately this place is not good anymore! Lived here 8 years and used to recommend it. Just went for lunch and both me and my friend's tacos were cold and hers they even forgot her meat. Our chips were also stale. Not going back

Dennis J.

Yelp
Pretty decent place to get quick bite when you're in a hurry, but don't expect to be blown away by the flavors. My food was pretty average and basically flavorless, not bad but not great. The place is clean and the workers are nice.

Logan B.

Yelp
This place is excellent. Tacos and burritos are delicious. Not busy, easy to order. It takes a bit to get food but they also have a freestyle machine, which rocks! It needs more options though, like mello yellow or Mountain Dew though. And it's close to the JW Marriott which is great. I'd definitely go here again.

Ann R.

Yelp
Pros: - Easy to order from kiosks - Food was prepared quickly and correctly - Food looked beautiful and tasted fresh; I got a guacamole bowl with various vegetarian ingredients - Good value Cons: - Got a spicy salsa but it was not spicy at all. Overall the food did not have much flavor.

Abe C.

Yelp
Food was bland, like a white guy who has never met a Mexican tried to make a burrito bowl. The service was a tad rough but overall fine. The vibe was cool. I'll give them that. Overall, I am disappointed with District Taco.

Jen S.

Yelp
Came here for a quick bite. This was close to my hotel. I just wanted a taco! I got my taco. Chicken taco the American way + sour cream. Delicious. From observing : it's a very busy place. Not that good for groups, however if you're lucky , you might get here early when two tables leave. Then you can have a small group. Coke products. Thank you. There is one nice long communal table if you're eating by yourself. Service is efficient and friendly. Tacos are delish.

Kendall R.

Yelp
This place was great! My friend and I came here for lunch and we managed to get in right before the crowd. I made my own salad with chicken, rice, cheese, cilantro, sour cream, and corn. Then chicken was charred, which I like but some may not. It was a really fresh bowl and they had it ready within a minute of placing my order at the kiosk! Be warned though, the only seating is upstairs and there's only spots for about 25 people or less. There were lots of families waiting for a table which made the upstairs feel pretty crowded and difficult to maneuver through. All in all, if you have a big group, plan on takeout.

Verina B.

Yelp
Was not impressed by this place. Payed $18 for a not so full bowl. Flavors really lacked even with all the different toppings. Good for a quick lunch I guess.

Maya N.

Yelp
I recently went to this establishment when I visited DC. To say I wish I went to Starbucks instead is an understatement. When I arrived there was a short line to the kiosk. It only took 5 minutes to get my order in. I ordered a bowl with rice, chicken, and cheese. This is my usual order in chipotle, and I didn't want to mess around too much with a different order before walking around. I waited for around 10 minutes before I got my order. When I got my food I walked to Starbucks and met up with a friend. I opened the container and was astounded to see a mere half inch of food. The ratio of rice to cheese was around 1:3. There was 2 inches of empty space in the container. I liked the cheese with the chicken, but the chicken left things to be desired. Every piece of chicken had a piece of charred meat to go along with it. I ate around two thirds of the bowl (which took around 2 minutes due to the lack of food) before throwing in the towel. I probably could have gotten a burrito and a better outcome, but I don't think that a bowl with three things should be too hard to make. Overall, the experience was a 3/10. Mostly because I liked the layout and the fact that I could order my food myself. However, if I had been able to see them as they made my order, I could have asked for more rice. This post isn't to scare anyone, but I would advise against getting a bowl with chicken, rice, and cheese. It will not end well.

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Made our first visit to District Taco yesterday. The menu kiosk was easy to navigate and the store was very clean. We both ordered the nachos. It took them no time to have our food ready. The nachos were delicious and the portion size was very large. We will definitely be back.

Barbara C.

Yelp
I've come here a couple more times recently - they've added self-ordering kiosks which makes the ordering process easier if you like using them and don't have questions for the staff. The food is still pretty good and very flavorful and, from what I can tell, pretty fresh, and they make the food relatively quickly. I also love that they have "Itza" as a vegan protein option. I guess it's their own seasonings on Beyond meat substitute. It's extra expensive which is annoying. My other small annoyances are: 1) They don't drain some of the excess liquids from the salsa and/or vegetables, and they wrap up the tacos super tightly using paper that falls apart quickly after getting wet. I had my tacos at the restaurant, so it's not like I was traveling a while before I could eat them. I ate them right away. But it was an extremely messy affair as the paper holding each taco fell apart from the liquid from the salsa and vegetables. 2) Guacamole is listed and offered as a protein on their menu for all their items. Guacamole is NOT a protein and it is ridiculous that it is offered as such. I get that guacamole is expensive like a protein, but nutritionally is not equivalent. I HATE WHEN PLACES DO THIS. Charge for it separately if you must, but don't list is as a protein.

Jannie B.

Yelp
Okay so I did the 3 taco- 1 grilled Alaskan fish pollack - 1 chorizo and 1 steak. All with the corn tortillas - they did two corn together which was fine. I also got the small chips and queso (pictured) As someone who has lived in Texas and Ok- I love me some tacos! However this flew a little flat into because they gave me the tiniest side of salsa. Where I come from salsa is poured to you from a never ending salsa reservoir! That was disappointing. I hope they see this review and take note otherwise the meat was great quality- just could have used a lot more salsa on an otherwise dry taco.

Miguel L.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, I just wish that they would include more hot sauce in each order and that they offered lime.

Lynne B.

Yelp
A higher class Chipotle. It was ok. Did the job to give us energy for walking D.C. The ambiance was loud! Chairs moving across the concrete floors startled us a few times.

Jeana B.

Yelp
Amazing! My fish tacos were delicious. I wish we had this back where we live. However, there is limited seating during rush hours.

Olivia P.

Yelp
This is a fast foo Mexican restaurant pretty comparable to Chipotle but the food doesn't seem as fresh. I enjoyed my burrito because it was decent substance, but nothing tasted authentic. It is a very Americanized take on Mexican. Everything lacked flavor and spice.

Bill R.

Yelp
I would have given 5 stars, but they get 3 Stars. The food was hot and delicious. The staff extremely friendly and accommodating. The prices are inline for this area. The small issue I had was I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I had the jefe way which included sour cream. Who ever built my burrito put all the sour cream on one end. So when I got to the last quarter end of my burrito it was flooded with sour cream and un eatable. I had to throw it out. I paid 15 dollars for the burrito and I had to throw away 25% of it because the person just threw in the ingredients without the thought of blending my burrito ingredients for an enjoyable 5 star experience. Bill.

Isaac R.

Yelp
This place is something similar to Chipotle, but you order through a kiosk, and they have one cashier in case you have difficulty using the kiosk. This place is close to the mall so you will find it busy. I ordered an Asada bowl with everything and 3 tacos. Their grilled fish and chorizo were really good; it is a must try. Their Asada was ok. I assume their chicken will be good, too, because it's also grilled. Unfortunately, to find parking is tough. I was at Macy's and parked my car on the street, so I walked about a block.

Bryan T.

Yelp
Was looking for a quick bite and this place didn't disappoint! Self ordering kiosks are my favorite and made ordering easy. I got a burrito and a drink which was $23, the burrito was thick and full but I still think that price is a bit steep for what you get. The staff was very friendly and the food came out super quick. The restaurant was clean and open and it appeared to have seating upstairs but I took it to go. If you're looking for a quick good bite for tacos or burritos then this is the spot!

kerry m.

Yelp
Food wasn't seasoned very well and really skimpy on salsa. Chips were cold when we purchased the chips and guacamole.

Christina L.

Yelp
Fresh ingredients. Fast service. Lots of menu options. Friendly staff. I had a veggie bowl, my kiddo had a steak bowl, and my husband had a steak burrito. All were very good!

Andrew G.

Yelp
District taco is somewhat like Chipotle in that you have a wide variety of ingredients to choose from. This particular location appears to be suffering from the DC labor shortage, particularly in the fast food sector, in that the small staff of two seemed overwhelmed with takeout and delivery orders. Nonetheless, they were able to put my order together quite quickly. The only reason I did not give them a higher rating is that overall, the tacos were quite small and bland. DC has plenty of local, non-chain taco stands that are much better.

Makayla K.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito was FIRE! We sat outside and loved being a quick walk from the Eastern Market Metro station.

Mackenzie B.

Yelp
Food and service are always good! I love the quesadillas. Maria P was so nice at the Metro Center location!

Juan N.

Yelp
Wrong list price....California Burrito Yesterday, I bought 2 California burritos in Washington,Dc location. The price is $12.29 for each (include carne asada). My complaint is about the misleading publication in the price list of California burrito...in the list the price includes carne asada...but it is not right ...because You need to pay extra $2.20 each for the carne asada...

Kaire H.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is amazing. You have to see jesseleth. She had the best costumer service. I would 10/10 come again. I love this place and she makes it so much better! If you see her please give a good tip!
