Dive 106

Two daytime visits. Perfect dive bar atmosphere. The bartenders were very nice and knowledgeable, drink food recommendations were excellent. Their service was fast and friendly. The food here is fantastic bar food. The burgers are excellent. Fries and tots crispy and hot, perfectly seasoned. Grilled chicken sandwich was also delicious. I was very surprised at the quality of the fries and tots. This place is great and will become a staple for my wife and I. Thanks for the great establishment for us to visit!!!

Ordered a simple soup salad and mac n cheese. What I received was horrible. The soup was super oily and separated. There was no salad and the mac n cheese was just messy. Nothing about this order was appealing and speaking to the management was of no use. I don't know how they received 4.5stars. This was definitely a 1 service.

Whether you are a professor, student or not, if you live anywhere near Columbia University, you really need to head over to Dive 106 (located on Amsterdam Ave. at 106th St.) for a great selection of beers on tap, cocktails, whiskeys and wholesome, fresh, and satisfying pub food. In my opinion, they have the best chili dog and wings around!! They also have a very nice Happy Hour and the bartenders are welcoming and cordial!! This is Not your typical dive bar, though. It is actually a beautiful space. The beautiful and decorative tin ceiling is the original ceiling from many many years ago. Rumor has it, the place has been a bar since 1949. The owners of the bar today, restored the ceiling back to its original splendor. And it really makes an impression! Don’t miss out!!

Good bar with friendly waitstaff and a good selection of beers and rotating drafts. There is a rather large menu (especially for a bar) and the kitchen is open until 2am. I didn't order any of the food though (dinner plans elsewhere). Will return to try it and enjoy the happy hour specials.

the WORST PLACE with the ugliest staff ever. didn’t even buy anything. terrible terrible staff. acted like we were taking up space cus we didn’t know if we were gonna order. definitely made it known that i wouldn’t even tell someone i hate to come here. wouldn’t even give us water while we made our decision. then they took their coasters back and gave us dirty looks. i WAS gonna order too… and i brought friends.

Nice place and the lady who used to lead trivia nights was awesome (the young guys sucks) but the staff is very unfriendly and we have tried so many things on the menu and nothing is good. Bartenders were very dismissive and unfriendly this last time and so we are done going here

Had been here for drinks and a quick bite. Not many options for cocktails so went for a frozen margarita which was good. We ordered fries which were nice and crispy. However we didn't quite like the chicken tenders in buffalo sauce. The chicken was not fresh, was dry and rubbery. This was recommended by the waitress so I was expecting something good but it wasn't worth one bite.

I've been a regular for 6 months and love the place. Any happy hour drink or food is a bargain. The people that work Tuesdays are awesome. The only mark that I could give is that the wings aren't on par with most other places i visited, however any Mexican specialty will knock your socks off.

Underwhelmed and disappointed with my visit to Dive 106. A few of the not-so-highlights include: The burger and waffle fries were overcooked and not flavorful. The inside of the bar was deafeningly loud. Our server didn't bring our drinks to us until we were almost done eating (no one checked on us after we placed our order). It was definitely not worth trying in my opinion, and I will steer clear of Dive 106 in the future.

Cool chill place very good Draft Beer selection. Friendly, feels like your local bar to enjoy drinks with friends. I didn't eat but menu looks good. I recommend this place for sure. I'll be back

I'm a regular, as in my party (of usually 6) goes to trivia every single week. Usually it's a good and undramatic time, but today I had an experience that left a really sour taste in my mouth. We came to join our party and wanted to grab a chair. In the past, staff has been really annoyed when we've asked for chairs so we grabbed one ourselves from the bar. At this point the bartender, Will S., comes out from behind the bar, literally yanks the chair from my partner's hands as if he is a toddler and is screaming "No no no!" Granted there is no sign anywhere that we can't move chairs, it's been done tons of times in the past, and we would have very happily cooperated even if he told us bluntly. But this was another level, Will freaked out as if we'd tried to kidnap his child. Then he saw that there was two bites of pizza left on our table and said you need to get out NOW cause that's outside food (my partner was finishing up the last bites of pizza). And stood there until we left. Again, it was literally two bites and we would have been super cooperative, but he didn't even give us a chance to respond. I understand that eating establishments have rules but I've never had anyone, let alone at a dive bar, be as rude as Will about communicating them. It's not like we were moving all of the bar chairs to our table or bringing tons of outside food to the bar (and also, I see other people bringing little things here and there all the time ) our party that we were joining had already ordered ample amount of food and drink, and we actually were about to order more from them when we were kicked out. Anyway I'm leaving one more star because there are other employees who are really nice (like Lincoln) but if your bartender (and may I remind, bartending is a client-facing HOSPITALITY role) is going to be a complete asshole to a customer who makes an honest mistake, you have a long term liability.

Between jiving to House classics and having the munchies, Dive was what we needed after a Circle Line House Party docking close to midnight that Sunday before Labor Day. Since many of my 'Late Night Food' Yelp searches turned out to be blanks, Dive's 4am hours sounded really nice. Turns out, hours weren't updated and they close at 2am instead. Still, the 2am closing worked for us perfectly because the West Side Hwy was smooth sailing at midnight and we got here in no time. I can definitely see 106 as having a 'woo-hoo' crowd and one I would avoid. But in our case and the time we came in, it was fine. Forget about what you know about a 'dive bar': bad service and equally bad food. Not here. Our late night- or rather wee-in-the-morning meal was affordable at this UWS watering hole with unpretentious service from Wally at the bar in a funky lived-in feel playing Bohemian-Funk music mixed with 80s British Pop. Not that I'm allergic to mayo- but I ONLY eat mayo with Dominican potato salad because it only calls for a small amounts. So when I told Wally to leave out the Wasabi aioli in my ahi Tuna Sandwich, his lightbulb went off and came over to tell me that there's also mayo in the coleslaw. Thank you for looking out, dude. Hubs enjoyed his burger in full force as well. By the look of 106, you'd you'd expect peanut shells crunching under your shoes. Nope. Just come for the food and the feel.

Live jazz outside on Sunday afternoons (3-6pm)! I know Dive 75, but didn't know there were others in this local chain until I walked by - glad to have one in Harlem. The fried pickles were great! The frozen margarita was okay, nothing special. There a few different ciders on tap but none are particularly dry. Plenty of craft beers on tap, most $8 or $9 per pint. Service was good, and food/drinks all came out quickly. Two individual (all-gender) bathrooms at the back, which is lovely but I imagine a long wait on crowded nights.

Surprisingly excellent food for a bar. Great choices, many of them delicious. Great ambiance (I mean..in a dive bar way) and a great staff.

Love this place. We come here after our soccer games nearby and the staff is always super friendly and welcoming, they remember us every time, and the atmosphere is always on point. The food is actually surprisingly good, and we are very happy we found our spot.

While I'm more of a fan of Dive on 96th street, 106 has been more my speed lately. Inadvertently, all roads lead to the same place as both bars have the same owner. On our last visit here, Leo was the lucky guy chosen to be our server extraordinaire. Leo was friendly, funny and most importantly efficiently fast at getting our drinks and food out in record time. It's no secret that I like a good dive bar and Dive 106 falls in that category. Come alone or with a few friends and have just the type of experience that you want. No one bothers you here and the food is your standard bar fare. The prices are reasonable, if memory serves me correctly. People are friendly-- at least when sitting at the bar was still a thing. They earned an extra star from me for offering mezcal, a variety of tequila options, lots of beers and a specialty cocktail called "WAP" (featuring mezcal!). No jukebox, but a good mix of music. Bathrooms are small but it's standard for a dive bar in and out. Nice, casual spot for this area of the neighborhood.

Props to Dive 106 for being exactly what you expect, a dive bar with drinks and no frills. Steer clear of the cocktail with coconut water and you'll probably be fine! They're a bit lax with covid protocols -- like I said, what you'd expect from a dive bar!

This place saved the day after our unpleasant experience literally across the street, and on my birthday celebration with friends. I normally would have looked up reviews of a place first before deciding but we really needed to just go somewhere else. Imagine our surprise when we were welcomed right away and attended to immediately, despite the place being busy. Thank you, Max! :) Upon settling in, we all agreed that we like the place, so out of curiosity, I looked up their reviews, and wow, 5-stars all the way! Living up to people's reviews it seems! Overall, we really loved the vibe of the place and the staff, it just makes you want to stay and enjoy the rest of the night. Fast forward to almost 4 hours later, you can imagine how many more round of drinks we've had, plus we enjoyed their nachos with grilled chicken and yummy fries! The music was great and as the rest of the evening went on, the place became even more packed! Service and staff didn't slow down and we were attended to from start to finish. You just earned 5 new/more customers and regulars, Dive106! We're definitely coming back! =)

The place has an outside area and the server was very nice ... they have a mostly beer menu for drinks but a handful of specialty cocktails and I don't like beer so I went with a watermelon lemon aid omg so yummy but when I ordered the second one they ran out of the watermelon vodka and suggested the apple one that was ehhh not so great but I drank it lol ... shared a burger and a fish sandwich it was good ... standard bar and bar food

First time for me and I will be back for sure! Great menu and beer selections. Food arrived hot and tasted great. Team was responsive and there when refills were needed. The Ahi Tuna Sandwich with the spicy mayonnaise is my favorite so far.

Awesome place with an interesting and extensive beer list, great laid back vibe, delicious food and wonderful staff. I've been here twice- once to check out the place and then a second time for a beer club meetup-- and both times were great. French fries are really good! The most recent time I had a patty melt which was amazing (and filling) and it was much better than the brisket sliders I had on the previous visit. Beers are always great. Just about any style you want, you can find. Many from local brewers. The staff is great also. Both times I've had great service and it was because they were so nice that we arranged the meetup there. At the meetup, Howie was definitely the man. He kept everyone full of beer and was very entertaining as well. Very cool place.

Pretty cool neighborhood bar I came to Dive 106 with my beer club and the place was packed. The service was pretty good, especially from one bartender. The folks at Dive even hooked us up with a humus platter with pita chips. All in all, I more than likely will return to booze and chill.

Ordered a regular burger and veggie burger, both with fries. Food got here very fast which was great. But somehow the burger+fries were cold and soggy by the time they got to me (within 15-20mins after ordering). Also both burgers were average at best. This was my first time ordering from this spot...No plans to order from here again.

Very chill bar with plenty of beers on tap and a friendly atmosphere. The owner has a few others in the UWS and this is the latest entry. Clean, relaxed and efficiently run... easily my favorite of the bunch. Plenty of screens available to watch your favorite team play. I didn't have any food, so I may give it a try next time I go. Recommended.

What an excellent service - and food has never been better! Been coming here for few years on and off and honestly every single item on the menu blew my mind! From swordfish sandwiches to sliders, onion rings to habanero wings, burgers to pretzels, so many different rotating beers on tap (plus the bottles and cans), and let's not forget the craftsmanship of the homemade cocktails and phenomenal bartenders such as Jemma and Will. Even annoying Howie is a bright star that lights up the place and my fire! And in conclusion, I just need to say, best quesadilla in the WORLD!

Dive 106 opened and instantly became the best beer bar in the immediate area. These guys are terrific. This location is less cramped than the others with a bit less cool shit, however there's still a fish tank and they have a bit of outdoor seating. Service is also quirky and wonderful as usual. Tap list is almost as stellar as the other places, with Hill Farmstead, Hudson Valley and other beer geek breweries regularly represented. Beer bottles are weak in comparison to their other places, but hopefully this will change over time. It already has the same vibe as the other places, along with similar specials as well; it's already a neighborhood watering hole, and the worst part of moving recently is no longer having it around the corner.

This is a usual spot for me. I went to trivia tonight and was barely served for the three hours I was here. When we asked for the check -- knowing it would be split among 5 people -- I received unnecessary attitude from the guy bringing the check. There was another server, a female, hustling the entire time covering inside and outside. Unfortunately she was not responsible for our table. I've been here so many times with more than 4 people, but today, it's a policy for this establishment to not split the check up for 5 people who couldn't even order as many items as they wanted to. Are you kidding? "Well, that's what most restaurants do, if it's more than 4 people," with an attitude, walking away. Why would you risk losing regular customers? Finally, the veggie fake chicken sandwich, our go-to, was unexpectedly lackluster. The sandwich wasn't hot enough to even melt the cheese on the sandwich. Don't expect great service, good service, or service in general when there are only two servers for the entire place. Then expect attitude when you ask to split the check like you always do when you come here at least once a week.

Highly recommend, don't let the lack of reviews fool you. Open late and a large menu that all sounded good. Also boasts an impressive special's and drink menu. The patty melt and French fries were great! Plenty of food, totally stuffed. Great ambiance, would be my go-to local bar. Great bar for watching sports games. Good music, on the louder side but didn't bother us at all. Tony our hostess made us feel like the only people in NYC and was great about checking on us, making sure we had everything we needed! I was shocked to find out this place has only been open 1 year. It feels and looks like it's been a staple in the neighborhood for decades. Also really enjoyed the huge fish tank right above our table!

Huge fan. Have visited a good few times to drink, as one does in a dive. Great beer selection, cool cocktails, lively neighborly vibe, solid and personable service, nice little outdoor area, and great hours. THEN, I went in Sunday around 3 pm (nursing a gnarly hangover) and FELL IN LOVE with their fries. Like we're getting married. Thin, plenty of salt and pepper, crispy, just greasy enough. I didn't even want ketchup or mayo!? Only one very kind but clearly frazzled employee was staffing the place when I came in (to nurse my gnarly hangover). I sat outside and was told he'd come out to serve me, but I ended up going in to ask for anything I needed. Told him about my (gnarrrrly) hangover and he suggested The Patty Melt. I'd give this 3 stars. The sliced bread was very thick and buttered, but toasted too hard so it was a lot on the teeth and super dense. Sauce on both sides made the sando easy to break in half and plenty moist. The patty was VERY juicy - cooked med-rare by default, which I always want. But the flavors were heavvyyyy and the patty was a little dark (flavor-wise). Surprised to say I'd have liked some lettuce and tomato to cut the richness. It was too much, but certainly satisfying. I won't stop going any time soon. Food, drink, FRENCH FRIES, vibe, and location are what I need. Hangover or not. Absolutely my new normal.

A classic dive bar - the neighborhood watering hole where everybody goes at the end of the day. It's Cheers, It's the Regal Beagle, it's Moe's Tavern; It's not stuffy or hipster - it's familiar and comfortable and it's the place you want for an excellent beer selection, really good bar food and a great time. That is what Dive 106 is all about. To start, the beer selection here is amazing. They have over twenty-five beers on tap, everything from Stella, and Guiness, to Zero Gravity Green State Lager and Pipeworks Glaucus Belgium IPA. In addition, they have good canned options, like Shiner Bock. Wine and cocktails are also available, and the food menu is pretty extensive, with lot's of interesting offerings: Kimchi Turkey Sliders, Sea Scallop Sliders, Giant Pretzel Muffaletta and a Pate & Cornichon Sandwich, to name a few. Of course you can also get the 'standards', like Buffalo Wings, Charcuterie Platters, Swordfish Tacos and a variety of burgers. I personally recommend Billy D's famous bacon onion dip, as well their, Greatest Patty Melt Ever sandwich. Both are amazing and really hit the spot. This location has been a bar since the early 1900's, but the newly designed Dive 106 combines the best of the old-school charm with a modern neighborhood vibe. I love the classic red nickel ceiling tile and 'antique' chandeliers. Combined with the tv monitors, large fish tank and diver decor, Dive 106 offers an air of coziness and intimacy which makes one want to stay awhile. The service here is very friendly, and Howie makes everyone feel welcome and appreciated. It's clear that the owners and staff understand - 'It's all for sh*t if the service sucks'. One of the best bars in the city, I wish Dive 106 was in my neighborhood. No question about it, Dive 106 gets my patented, FOUR THUMBS UP!

I'm a fan. Easy, good service, good vibes, good music, good beer, good food. Good at checking vax status. We wanted a chill night out to play cards, drink pumpkin flavored something (pumpkin cider FTW) and some good comfort food and we got just that. Neighborhood gem. Big heated outdoor area too!

While we was visiting New York and we wanted to visit a local watering hole. My friend and I stumbled upon Dive 106. We loved the place! The drinks were yummy and the locals helped us out on some places to see around the city where shows have been filmed. I checked in on Facebook saying it's my birthday and I was enjoying my time. Then one of the owners reached out to me and sent me a special gift for my birthday in the mail. I recommend this hidden gem for food and drinks! Great environment and a place I would visit again. They have a wide range of draft beer selection at a reasonable price. The bartender was polite, friendly and attentive. Food is good - I tried the beef brisket sliders and patty burger. Looking forward to trying the edamane and peanuts next time. A nice local place to go after work!

Service and food were great. We were here for a birthday gathering. Our drink cups were always refilled expeditiously, I had four, most of us did. The lobster Mac and cheese was awesome. Wings, quesadilla, chips/salsa, and everything else I tried was very good. I can see why this place is always packed. I will be back

Awful service! They asked me to pay before I ate then it took 3 servers to get my appetizer order correct.NEVER AGAIN. Bye bye!

I see you, Dive 106. You're a shining beacon of light in the wee hours when everywhere else is closed because of "not wanting to run their staff into the ground" or "you guys should really stop drinking so much it's probably not healthy for you." Dive 106 has a great beer list, a crap ton of TVs that somehow had interesting things on at 3:30 AM, a great jukebox situation that we probably overused, and super friendly staff. Also, you know, the whole graveyard shift thing on a Saturday night. Considering how smashed and loud my group was, I'm grateful these guys put up with us, providing much needed alcoholic coffee drinks (gotta be sharp at 4AM), and additional beers to take the edge off of said coffee drinks. I'll definitely be back next time I'm south of Harlem.

The staff is always knowledgeable about the beers. I like the Kentucky Bourbon wings.

This place has been saving the day in a post COVID world. Great outdoor setup and the staff is very friendly. Just watch out for the bike lane. Wings and mozzarella sticks are solid.

Update: The owner reached out to me privately to discuss and provided a full refund. I appreciate the level of care and will be back soon. I'll start off by saying I generally like this place - the food is usually good and they have a large beer menu. Despite having good ingredients, it seems like the staff or kitchen doesn't care about the food - I ordered takeout and received the wrong order - I received a side of fries instead of salad, the Pretzel Caprese Sandwich came on a normal bun instead of a Pretzel bun, and the brisket sliders "topped with caramelized onions, & served on GranDaisy Slider Rolls with a side of sliced pickle and coleslaw" was just dry meat on a bun.... no onions, pickles, or coleslaw - see the photo. I hope this place can put a little more effort into their food & service, because they could really kill it. Until then, I'd skip it.

Dive 106 is much much better than you're average dive bar. They have great beer, a wide selection, and you can get a pitcher on any of them to save a few bucks. The big thing people won't know though, is they have great food. I think they should change the name to include "bar and grill" or "bar and restaurant." They have a $9 lunch special which is a phenomenal deal. They also have a regular menu and a specials menu. I've had the chicken sandwich, wings, spinach and cheese dip, nachos, salad... it's all really good. The chicken sandwich is my favorite in the area. It's on ciabatta . The fries are also phenomenal. And they have a cute seating area outside with strings of lights. Highly recommend this place at any hour of the day.

GET THERE EARLY, like before 10pm if you want to sit and watch the game your boys. It's very small and tight. No walking room. No dancing room . VERY BIG TVS .EXTRA LOUD MUSIC to drown out your thoughts, my loners.

What a gem!! The best lunch menu north of 96th St! $9 for a handmade burger and mountain of fries! The picture doesn't do justice to the flavor. Laid back atmosphere for a quiet but extremely friendly lunch. There are 12 other $9 lunch special meals. You can do a nice looking salad instead of fries but I'm fat so that's a no go for me. Vegetarian options are also available for as part of the deal. The Wicked Weed Hop Coco Porter was perfect. If that's not your thing there are 27 other draft lines and cans too!

Great food, great drinks, even better people. Best neighborhood bar hands down. Howie makes everyone feel welcome. The multiple TVs make it great to watch a game, but aren't so omnipresent that they make it difficult to talk to people at your table. Get the patty melt, it's incredible. Dive 106 is a gem. Leo, Nate, Romie, Alexa, Gemma, Wally and the rest of the staff are absolutely phenomenal. Quick service, outstanding customer experience, excellent menu and a complete bar make this cozy, friendly spot an excellent place to spend an afternoon or evening in. Sit in for some sports, participate in some trivia or just kick back and enjoy a few drinks, the Dive 106 is the best place in the area. My favorite spot, nothing compares to it. Perfect place for a drink with friends or a quick bite after a long day. Dive 106 is fantastic. The neighborhood's best bar with a great staff and a electic beer selection.

Dive 106 is the best place on the upper upper west side for a chilled cider, crispy fries, and new friends. Always a welcoming vibe full of fun folks and super sweet bartenders! If you're flying solo or with a squad always a great place to stop by at some point in your evening :)

A jewel of neighborhood bars! I've been a few times now and each time I ended up making new friends and loving the atmosphere. The food is amazing. I could believe how fresh everything was from the quesadilla to the sliders! The chef really takes pride in the food and it shows. And what an incredible beer & whiskey selection. Can't wait to go back where even after one stop the bartenders know your name. I suggest the dry rub wings, a special offering from bartender Billy D! Also, the bartenders know their stuff so ask for a beer taste of something new. Hey, maybe I'll see you there.
