Dive is supposedly the only rooftop bar and restaurant on Coronado Island. It's located on the top level of the Bower Hotel which is across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. Because it faces south, the view is mainly of the Hotel Del and then the ocean off in the distance. Enter the external elevator to the right of the driveway and press the button to reach the fourth floor. The bar was to the right when you exited. It had eight seats and across from that were a few round high-top tables. To the left was more seating, some of which was under canopy cover.
Because I came for dinner, a one-page menu entitled "Sunset Snacks & Supper Starts" was handed to me after I sat down at a high-top. Nine small/large plates, two salads, and three desserts were listed. I ordered the Dive Melt Sliders which featured a set of three mini burgers containing American wagyu, habanero jack cheese, caramelized onion, and mustard aioli. A side of Bower Fries came with the order. The thick cut spuds were sprinkled with dive seasoning, and a cup of herb aioli was provided for dipping.
One reason why my rating wasn't higher was that after a waitress placed my order, she never came back to check on me. Only when the bartender took the time to come around the counter to ask how I was doing, that was when I inquired about the status of my food. It was over 20 minutes from ordering to when I received a platter. The place was less than half full so the delay wasn't because the kitchen was slammed.
The sliders were okay, nothing special. I actually liked the fries better because they were extra crispy from being double fried. The aioli was the perfect dip for these fries. Based on the food quality, price, and service, I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dining experience at Dive.
