Houston’s Best Houston Cocktail Bars

"Nestled in an unassuming building in Spring Branch is one of the coolest and most creative bars in town. While tables are available, the best seats in the house are at its bar, where a mixologist creates a spectacle using modern gastronomy to craft clear and clarified espresso martinis, envelope Old Fashioneds in tufts of smoke, and capture the essence of in a gin-based creation. For what is possibly Houston’s fanciest martini, order the Antoine Gibson. Made with gin and a vermouth blend, this ice-cold martini comes with a spoonful of caviar, accouterments, and a beaker of savory broth. Reservations are encouraged." - Brittany Britto Garley

"Known for its mixology theatrics, Diversion Cocktails will toast to Houston with its $18 Candy Paint cocktail. Made with rum, candy syrup, citrus, soda, and a lit cinnamon stick that resembles a blunt, this drink is served in a plastic Solo-like cup — a true ode to Houston’s OG’s. 16 Restaurants and Bars Serving Excellent Espresso Martinis

"Diversion’s clear espresso martini feels like a magical illusion but it’s more of a science. Resembling a normal martini, this espresso martini is clarified using around six hours of heat treatment and vapor condensation on dry ice before it's filled with nitrous that gives the cocktail a foamy texture. Bartenders continue the tricks, serving the martini in a frozen martini glass with chocolate-covered almonds on the side that resemble olives." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain

HOUSTON CITY GUIDE

"What makes Diversion different than your average cocktail bar is we execute our vision like a professional world class kitchen. Our bar chefs source the finest produce, clean, cut and process them to make our ingredients from scratch. We grow our own produce on our urban farms in the Heights & Spring Branch, totaling 10,000 sq. ft. We also visit the farmers market each weekend, & build relationships with farmers all over the state. We use our fresh Texas produce to craft cordials, infusions, tinctures, preserves, ferments, and vinegars. It is all made from scratch. If you look at the walls, you will see the various projects we conduct throughout the year as the seasons change."

Great service from the start as you walk into a very cool little spot. Hot towels while you enjoy a complimentary pallete cleanser. Chloe took great care of us. The drinks are very unique and we're all really good. The lab shots are edibles and both the margarita balls and the Cosmo ice cream cone were amazing. The green tea and gin ritual was a cool science experiment in front of your eyes and tasty if you want a hot cocktail. Look forward to going back and trying other cocktails.

Was looking for a new cocktail bar to try before our dinner reservation on Friday night and came across Diversion. I hadn't heard of it yet but I liked the vibe of the website so I booked a 6pm reservation. Upon check in/arrival I realized that I had accidentally booked the reservation for Saturday night instead of Friday! The host asked us to wait a moment while he tried to see if they could fit us in. They said that they could and led us to a table inside. The bar was empty but for a couple of other people that walked in when we did but it had filled out a bit by the time that we left. Apparently the reservations are typically for a "90 minute experience" which I will admit that I am still a bit perplexed by because the menu is a la cart. After placing an order for a couple of the mini tinis along with a tequila and an order of the margarita lab shots, our waiter arrived with warm towels and complimentary glasses of hot dashi broth. Cocktails arrived promptly along with a small plates of snacks. The margarita lab shots were a fun little explosion in your mouth and the tiny tinis were good. My husband also tried the negroni before we left and said that was good as well. Overall this new cocktail bar still seems to be getting it's footing but it was cute and fun if a bit on the pricey side.

Great experience for very creative drinks. Grew up shopping at Northwest Mall so was familiar with the area. Used to be, I think, part of Schepps Dairy warehouse. Don't let the exterior presentation discourage you - seems to be a great repurposing! Sign is small. However a very cool place! Super creative drinks and friendly staff. Very unique offerings but also standard bar options. Great option for those seeking a different take on drinks. Yes prices are on the high side but the quality and creativity are great. Limited food offerings but that wasn't the focus of our stop. Hope to return soon!

Google
Definitely a one of kind experience! Drinks are so thoughtful, complex and delicious. Presentation is fantastic. Service was great. Everything was wonderful. We stuck with a lot of the Indulgent drinks but I can’t wait to come back and try more of their standard cocktails as well.

Google
Very fun, intimate and delicious. The cocktails are very imaginative and are very much an experience. Everything was unique and tasty. They even created some very tasty mock-tails for my pregnant wife. Prices are high but these are more elevated drinks than just your run of the mill mix drinks or standard cocktails. We have been twice and loved it both times.

Google
It’s a very unique and, I think, innovative bar. At first I felt a bit overwhelmed looking at the menu and being a bit lost but the staff does a great job of explaining the concept and the drinks. The ambience is romantic. Low lights with the right amount of amber lighting. The restrooms are some of the best that I’ve seen, although I’m not sure if I would use the bidet. It was nice to have mouthwash and other complimentary things at your disposal in the bathroom. The drinks were great. It’s not an extensive menu but each item has an intentional story behind it. I recommend the candy paint; it’s an ode to Houston. Overall our experience was very good, the only issue was when we were trying to close out. The bartender left us with the card machine to check out on our own and as luck would have it, it didn’t work as expected and we couldn’t troubleshoot it ourselves. So it took a bit too long to check out despite being the only customers tonight. Regardless, drinks were great, ambience was great, and the concept is very cool. Would come back for sure. I hope it gets busier.

We went there 5 min early and they asked us to wait outside in the heat, saying that they are getting our tables ready. They say that there is no space inside to wait. The tables were all empty. We were sweating outside since it was very hot. The service was good but some items took a lot of time to come even when there were only 3 others in the restaurant. Drinks were good and good was good. They should have bar seating for sure.

Yelp
Apparently Diversión Cocktails has shuttered its doors. I'm not totally surprised. I visited Diversión twice over a five month span. As good as the drinks were, I personally thought they were overpriced. Diversión was trying to give upscale vibes with a speakeasy feel, but I think they fell a little short. 1st Visit: We had a reservation for three. My friend and I were running late. I wanted to let them know, but I couldn't find a phone number. I sent a DM on IG and never received a reply. When we arrived, I realized that a reservation wasn't even needed because it was not busy in there (on a Friday night). The drinks were pretty pricey. They were divided by Indulgence and House Cocktails. They had a very small snack menu that had items like caviar and charcuterie. The Indulgence menu was just that. The cocktails were very creative. The Pho Cup'd (read it fast for the play on words) was an unusual cocktail that looked like a bowl of pho. I had the Backyard Bounty and L'Armandine and they were both very good. The bartenders checked in on us in the beginning, but towards the end of the night, they took forever. My friend was charged for a drink even though she was told it was on the house because she ordered the last one. 2nd Visit: I came with my friend and her significant other. We again had a reservation, but it wasn't needed. Many reviews mentioned how the building looked sketchy on the outside (which was true). On this visit, the parking lot caught my attention because it was in worse shape. Weeds were growing through cracks in the cement and it just looked like it had been neglected. I ordered a drink from the Indulgence menu called the Glow + Tonic. The drink was very pretty and it came with a nice presentation from the bartender. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't worth $30. My friends enjoyed their drinks too. We only had one drink and then moved on to another bar in the area. It's always a bummer to see a local business close it's doors, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to check out some of their cocktails.

Yelp
This place looks like it's nothing from the outside but it is everything!! The bartenders showed so much hospitality. This place makes immersible cocktails, not your ordinary bar. I highly recommend also make a reservation. They ask you what you like and make you a beverage according to your tastes. Love it 10/10!

Yelp
The outside of the building looks like it could be a strip club. Go to the door on the right side of the building. When you walk in, it will take a moment for your eyes to adjust. It is very dark and intimate. Once your eyes adjust, you can see that it is very nice and well decorated. I made a reservation, but it was early in the evening and probably wasn't needed. However if you come in later than 5:30, I would totally recommend a reservation. We were escorted to a dark corner of the bar. Unfortunately the music was a touch too loud for my taste and there was a large party talking over the music. We were handed menus and the menus are back lit. These menus light up. So cool. The cocktails are expensive. But this is for the experience and they are well thought out. I tried the Pho' cupped cocktail. It was served warm with pho broth, lime and jalapeño. It was really tasty and it really felt like a meal. It was nice to sip on the chilly day. My friend ordered the Smokey Old Fashioned. It was smoked and covered in a cloche and uncloched at the table. The area filled with a warm aroma of a wood smoke. We each ordered another drink. I had something that came with boba. Everything was really well thought out and tasty. Overall, this was a fun experience. Due to the cost of cocktails, this is a great first date or special occasion place. Not sure I would come here every week. I personally would like to have the lights turned up a touch, and the music turned down. It was dark and intimate but if I can't hear my date, that is a problem.

Yelp
Intro: I stopped by Diversion Cocktails with two friends on a Friday evening. We made a reservation a few weeks prior just in case. Located in The Heights, they have their own lot so parking won't be an issue. While not a speakeasy, Diversion Cocktails has speakeasy vibes and puts a large emphasis on craft cocktails. Ambiance (4.5/5): Don't judge a book by its cover. Diversion doesn't seem like much from the outside as the exterior looks like your run-of-the-mill bar. And it's not in the greatest part of The Heights. However, once you walk in, all of that changes. Diversion is elegant. Dimly lit. With both table seating, bar seating, and lounge seating. Beautiful all-around. If there are a lot of people there while you are, it can get pretty loud. Drinks (5/5): Now this is what you've been waiting for! The creativity of the drinks at Diversion Cocktail exceeds anywhere else I've seen in Houston. We're talking about some seriously sophisticated drinks. I started out with the Luau as I'm a sucker for tropical/tiki drinks. The presentation of this drink was exceptional. It's served in a tiki glass with edible foam. The tiki glass is set on a platter that resembles the beach. There is edible sand and decorations like seashells. Talk about going above and beyond! For my second cocktail, I went with the Pho Cup'd (get it?!). I didn't think it was possible but the presentation here exceeds the Luau as the cocktail is prepared tableside (sneak peek: there's some flambe action involved). A pho cocktail with pho broth and some of the various toppings you see with pho?! This was a first for me. It's a strong drink and unlike anything I've ever had before. My third cocktail was less elaborate but had a frozen pop as part of it. Also really cool! Food (N/A): While they have small bites, I was on a liquid diet while I was there. Overall: The drinks are expensive. Especially the super creative ones. But you're paying for the experience. It's not somewhere I'd feel comfortable going often but on occasion or for a special occasion, definitely! You won't find cocktails like this anywhere else in Houston.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this place, and we will definitely be back! We almost drove past it at first, because it is a smaller, minimally marked building inside a massive parking area. But it was so nice not to have to hunt for parking for a change! The front door looks speakeasy-style with a door knocker, but we walked in and there was a sign that said please wait to be seated. We did not have a reservation but were able to get a spot at the bar as walk ins. They have these cool bar dividers to help you feel almost like you are at a private booth even though technically others are seated right next to you. Each drink is carefully crafted and designed, with an intricate presentation. The bartenders and mixologists were incredibly helpful and great at explaining and suggesting. Please check out the pictures I posted for each drink we got to try - we enjoyed them all! I think my favorites were the District 5 and the L'Amardine (topped with fennel oil - so interesting!).

Yelp
We were visiting and I just kept seeing Diversion in social media. The concept is awesome and the drinks were delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more unique cocktails. Food-We did not order food(had an upcoming dinner reservation), but did order delicious drinks. Atmosphere - Where they are located looks sketchy but it's so worth it once you get inside. Our Uber driver even asked if we were sure this was the right place . We walked in to a dim speakeasy vibe. The menus were lit up so you could see well. We were the only customers there at our 6:30 reservation on a Thursday. Two additional couples came in towards 7:30. We sat at the bar chef counter, it was great seeing them make the drinks and just interacting. Service - The service was amazing. You can tell the bartenders are very passionate about their craft. They gave us more recommendations and were just very hospitable. If you've been to Aviary it's very similar.

Yelp
Diversion Cocktails was recommended by a friend, and I decided to visit the bar with my significant other. The ambiance was dark, and the wood was in a darker color. It was very much giving dark academia vibes~ Their bar was open and large for everyone to view the bartenders make the beverages. The top shelves were lined with Erlenmeyer flasks, and they also had a rotary evaporator. I think this shows that there is a lot of science behind the drinks they are making, and they go beyond the norm. I ordered the District 5, which consisted of cachaca, coconut milk, ube, whole egg, and strawberry. I also got the T. Y. Munson, which contained cognac, bourbon, apple, absinthe, caramelized tea, cherry bar, and grapes. The District 5 came with small popping bubbles, and it was a fun drink and was coconuty. The T. Y. Munson was on the "Indulgence" side of the menu and was pricier and was an experience. It was smoked and came with a bunch of grapes. Both drinks were strong, so if you're a lighweight like me, this will be the bang for your buck! Overall, I think the bar is unique and a perfect place for an intimate date or for you to experience drinks made by people who know the craft well!

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night. I made a reservation just about an hour before hand. Pulling up it was a bit sketchy lol a small trailer like building in a huge parking lot. Once inside it had a very speakeasy like vibe. It seems like. Sitting room only kind of place like can't just go up to the bar to order. We sat at the bar with Covid style partitions between us and the next couple. The bartender explained the concept (drinks are an experience plated dinner style) I feel like that was supposed to be the rationale for the exorbitant prices of some of the drinks. There were more reasonably priced drinks but still a bit high for houston imo. I'd heard about their clarified espresso martini but it seems to sell out quickly. I had the Natsume and it was played very cute and was very intricately flavored and delicious. It was also pretty strong. My date had the TY Munson that was like a sweet old fashioned with smoke. Service was very attentive, bathrooms clean, only took one star for the price range but I'd return.

Yelp
What a great cocktail experience! 5/5 highly recommended! It's a very dark and intimate place with unique drinks. It seems as they consistently change their menu so it was hard making a decision solely from pictures on Yelp & Instagram. We also had a few of their small places that were really good. My favorite part was when the menu lit up when you opened them. How cool is that lol
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
First and foremost, I have to start out by asking a few hypothetical questions.. When arriving at diversion's cocktails, will you feel like this is a sketchy place? Most likely.. Will you second guess this spot because it's in the most random area of Houston? 100%, yes. Yelpers, please hear me.. we live for gems like this! Somewhat sketchy exterior unknowing what the inside holds... Well, let me tell yall somethin'.. you'll be missing out on the very experience we search for in these streets! Right when you open the door, you feel as if you are in some sort of Narnia like place because everything changes all at once from a super sketchy random building to a dim lit, amazingly boujy bar that gives an extreme sense of intimacy and class. I was so glad I didn't wear my "don't be self conchas" shirt and ripped jeans. Me and my friend immediately loved it and sat at the bar. Please note that you have to actually make reservations to sit at the bar and be hosted by the mixologist, who is super well rounded when it comes to liquor. It's so interesting because it's basically like watching scientists work with chemicals. Intricately thought out, and each drink made with a lot of passion. I started out with the monsoon. I can't even begin to describe it, but if you like that little kick of spice, I would go for it. It's not overwhelming.. more so complimenting. Then I had heavy on the hail. Somewhat set up like an old fashion, but the flavors were very subtle and also very complimenting. We didn't go for any of the super fancy ones only because they looked on the bigger side, and we still wanted to head somewhere else after. After seeing someone get a drink that lit up into flames, I definitely want to go back and experience it! Every single myxologist is super informative and knowledgeable about everything. They are all definitely masters at their craft. Prices are not cheap, but the experience is so worth it. Another hypothetical question.. would I typically recommend going into shady buildings? Probably not.. Even though now that I think about it, I do this quite often. In this case, I 100% recommend doing so. Maybe just make sure you have the right place. I'm definitely excited about coming back and trying some more awesome mixed drinks.

Yelp
Ever since we visited the Aviary in Chicago, we've been on the hunt for good creative cocktails in Houston and we thought we'd find it here. First impression is that the place is in a very unassuming spot. The surrounding area is a little rough. I wouldn't expect this place to be here if I was just driving by, but I guess this kinda adds to the speakeasy feel. You walk in in and you're met with dim lights, a nice looking bar - definitely a relaxing feel. The bar was relatively empty when we walked in. We were promptly greeted by our server. The menu has a light which is blinding at first, but fitting for the place since it's dark. They have a lamp you can turn on if you needed anything which I thought was a nice idea. Since I wanted to try something creative, I ordered from the "indulgence" side of the menu ($30-$70 range) and got the T.Y. Munson for $35. We were a party of 5 and drinks came one by one. My drink was served on a little elevated wooden platter with a dome cover to keep the smoke in, and the server opened the dome to let all the Smokey goodness out. The drink was definitely smokey, bold and the presentation was theatrical. Now why 3 stars? Throughout our time there the place got full. There was only one server running around the place looking like a chicken with her head cut off. All of our cocktails arrived relatively quick except for my friend's beer, the easiest thing to probably serve in that place. My sister in law ordered another cocktail later on but never arrived after 25 minutes, so we asked to cancel it instead. Overall, the experience didn't match the price tag. They may have focused more on the theatrics (decor, nice bathroom etc) rather than the overall customer experience. I would have been willing to pay for an expensive drink or two if the service was at least prompt throughout our time there. So unfortunate since the drinks were not bad. Sad to say we probably won't return.

Yelp
Diversion has a private chill update vibe. It is very intimate space with amazing bartenders Tammy and Minh. Hopefully I spelled their names correctly. We ordered the Glow & Tonic and Our Version. Our version was one of the best coffee martini I have ever had.

Yelp
Intimate, cute, dim, romantic spot. Amazingly crafted drinks by enthusiastic bartenders. Matsume - 10/10 Clarified Espresso Martini - 12/10 (the most visually impressive cocktail I've seen) Candy Paint- 7/10 (off-balance citrus tones) T.Y. Munson 9/10 Antoine Gibson 9/10 Full reel: @BoughettoFoodie

Yelp
Nice first date spot! Music is loud, 80s. Dark, dimly lit, lace curtains..very vibey. Cocktails are unique and flavorful - REALLY enjoyed their take on a gin martini (Antoine Gibson), the Natsume (really earthy, sweet), and the Backyard Bounty (a little too sweet), but didn't care as much for the Pho Cup'd (super interesting beef pho broth meets gin + orange liqueur). Cool presentations!

Yelp
One of the spots I definitely wanted to try when we were planning our Houston trip!! When we pulled into the parking lot, the hubby thought I had the wrong address (YES it looks like a random building in an abandoned parking lot, but trust me go in!) I recommend going with just 1 other person so you can sit at the bar and watch the bartenders work! ---pho cocktail: the hubby's all time favorite food is pho so he was very excited, and the cocktail DELIVERED! The ingredients surprisingly worked very well together, such an out of the box idea! I also enjoyed my refreshing cocktail and the bartenders were so friendly, they gave us a list of suggestions for food while we were in town!

Yelp
Love this speakeasy! Only open Thursday - Saturday. Must make reservations ahead of time. The cocktails are pricy, but it's worth the experience. The ambiene is perfect for date night. Plenty of parking outside. Ordered the backyard bounty and L'Amardine. Loved the fennel oil in the L'Amardine.

Yelp
Made reservation for August 30th over a month in advance, got confirmation email when booked, and another the morning of the reservation before seeing the Yelp stating they are closed permanently. A bit disappointed that we didn't know ahead of time and that there is no where on social media or their website saying they have closed. Also, annoying that they are STILL accepting reservations and sending confirmation emails for the reservations. Was excited to have a clear espresso martini but I guess I'll just go KMS I guess

Yelp
Solid date spot. Great service. The menus light up when you open them. Each of the drinks were entertaining and delightful. The luau was fruity and had a delicious pineapple foam. The gin and tonic was a beautiful drink with dry ice on poured on top. The smoky whiskey drink was done really well.

Yelp
Easily one of the coolest cocktail bars I've ever been to! I am all about fun, low-key settings for a night out with the homies and Diversion Cocktails seriously hit all the marks. The entire experience was a pleasant surprise from the very beginning. My friend couldn't figure out how to make a reservation so we decided to try our luck on a Saturday evening without one. The exterior is so inconspicuous, we almost missed the place and questioned if we even got the right location until we stepped inside. We were warmly greeted by Minh, who swiftly seated us and walked us through the bar's light-up menus-- super smart addition for their dark, vibey space. Between the four of us, we started with two speciality cocktails and two house cocktails. Each drink was fabulous and the specialities were so creative and unique. Pricey but well worth the indulgence. I loved the ube flavors and fun textures in the District 5, and we all enjoyed the lil show that came with the Natsume. Minh took immaculate care of us the whole night and gave awesome recs for the guys' second rounds of drinks. We were also treated to a fun "family pour" at some point-- completely unnecessary, greatly appreciated. To wrap on a completely random note, I was also really impressed by their bathroom lol. Says a lot about a place when even the bathrooms are perfectly maintained and designed. I will 200% be back next time I'm in Houston!

Yelp
saw this place on Instagram and went to go check it out. Kids are locked in the parking lot is overgrown. Looks like nobody's been there for a while. also no phone number or email to make reservations. It looks permanently closed.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Still a great spot for an intimate drink made by some of the most creative bartenders in Houston. The outside is unassuming but the drinks are very much the opposite.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
The building is so nondescript and not what you expect at all when you see photos of the drinks. I kinda dig it though. Drinks are pricey - cocktails start at $16. The ambiance is great though - romantic setting, darker interior, fun music, almost a speakeasy vibe. My cocktail was good and not amazing (same with my friend who paid $25). I should've called to see how often they switch up their drinks because I was super excited for the cereal milk one but unfortunately they don't offer it anymore. Might be worth trying sometime in the future.

Yelp
You'll need to make a reservation to go We showed up and were not greeted very welcoming. My friends convinced them to allow us to have a drink at the empty bar. There was 1 table and the rest empty. They finally agreed but the bartender wasn't very happy to have patrons. Nonetheless we were excited to try their fancy cocktails that we saw on Yelp reviews but their menu change regularly. We tried others and they were very good. The overall ambiance is great but the bar only sits parties of two. The restrooms were very clean and staff provide all kinds of items for a donation. They also have a bidet which was impressive. We would definitely go back for the great cocktails

Yelp
This place was fantastic! Found it through Insta and decided to go with my best friend. The immersion cocktails are absolutely incredible! The farm to cocktail also present flavors that are exquisite and unique. Reservations are usually required. If you plan on going. There are only about 10 tables in this place. I asked the question about how long each table usually stays, and she says they generally only let tables stay for 2 hours. That may seem like a long time, but it really goes quickly. The drinks are masterpieces that take some time to create, so really, 2 hours, you will probably get through 3 drinks. We were able to stay a little longer, but this is a place that I'd like to stay longer than the two hours. (And they will let you know your time is up). Overall, the team are friendly. We really enjoyed talking to them between drinks. Munchies were delicious; however, I underestimated how filling the immersion cocktails were, especially because those come with stuff to eat too! Definitely bringing my husband back to this place next time we are in Houston!! Oh, and ladies, something amazing about the ladies room here.... But I'll keep that a surprise!
google avatar

Yelp
Been here on several occasions and would recommend getting a res if possible. It's been hit or miss when I've just walked in. Super lovely to hit either at the bar or main area, and I loved the dividers between tables. It made for a very intimate feel. They have immersive cocktails and standard ones. I would recommend the immersive if it's your first time. One was a tiki drink that came with edible sand (crumbled cookie), seashells for garnish. Another was a martini that came with pickled beets and a spoonful of caviar. During the holiday season, there was one that came with popcorn and an iPad that played a Xmas movie. They used to have a welcome drink, but they didn't serve that the most recent time I visited.

Yelp
Sooooo...... My friend asked my hubs and I to join a couples dinner and drinks afterwards. She had seen pics of Diversion Cocktails and wanted to check it out after... She didn't realize it really isn't a bar. Days before our dinner date, I check out the site and I told her "Uh.... looks like we needs reservations." We were able to get reservations for the 6 of us around 9ish but at the bar and only by three reservations of 2. They were able to seat us all together at the bar and took away the dividers in between the couples. We got there about 15 minutes before our res but still had to wait. They made the entrance super narrow so it was awkward if someone in the back needed to get through. We had to wait for others to leave so we waited for about 10+ minutes. Hubs and I sat first and had to wait for the rest of the bar to leave before they sat our party. But I suppose since we said we were together, they didn't serve us did our entire sat. By the way, the bar only seats 8. The rest of the place had about 6-7 other tables that sat 2-6 people. Anyways, we all finally sit and the bartender shares some details about the place but honestly I didn't hear a thing 'cause the music was loud. The menu was really cool - it lit up when you opened it. The left section had super fancy (and rather expensive) cocktails. The right side had less complicated drinks and some food. We proceeded with ordering Cereal milk ($25!) and Bone Marrow ($35!). Cereal milk was tasty BUT super strong! It was a unique drink that came with homemade cereal. With the intensity of the drink, I definitely needed more cereal. It probably took me an hour to finally gulp the rest of it. I wasn't going to waste $25. Bone marrow... I do give this one props on the uniqueness of this "drink." But it's not a drink.... more of a giant popping boba filled with liquor. They do instruct you on how to consume it but I accidently popped it too early in my mouth which led me to feel the stings of the spiciness burning through my nose and had me with tears dripping down my face. The "drink" came with 8 balls. Hubs probably had 4 but I could only finish 2. I had to waste part of my $35. It came with some bone marrow on toast to accompany the "drink" - which I thought was ok. Hubs did order the Catalonian fish sticks which is panko breaded mackerel. He ate it first and said he loved it but I probably wouldn't because mackerel has a distinctive flavor. He was right. Mackerel is too fishy for me, but if you love it - then you'll probably love this dish. We also ordered a round of tequila/strawberry/tarragon shots which were tasty. I was able to sip some of my friends' cocktails as well. The Mescal#2 - we could not drink... It's described as "Gently smoky" but it was too smoky for us to drink. There were two other "less complicated" cocktails that was ordered (don't remember which ones), but only one of the two cocktails were enjoyed. Overall, I want to like this place but I don't think I would come back. Yes, the cocktails were cool and unique but I can't pay for a cocktail that costs way more than most of my meals.... Unless it was something that was just THAT GOOD but this wasn't OMG good. If you are expecting to come to a bar and possibly check out other people, this is not the place for you. It's a hang out for couples and small groups of friends that want a place to have a drink and have long conversations (well, they cap you at two hours so not too long). When booking the reservation, it was interesting that it said please give an hour for the full experience. If you calculate the wait time and the time it takes to consume one drink, then yes you need the full hour. I did however enjoy the restrooms. The toilets were heated. Yep.

Yelp
Located well off the beaten path on Longpoint dr., this is not the part of town where one would expect a nice cocktail bar. But looks can be deceiving and I'm very happy to see restauranteurs venture out beyond the usual suspects (Heights, Galleria, EaDo, Downtown etc) to highlight some of the more up-coming areas of Htx! Nestled in a space next to Degust, Diversión is more a cocktail experience than a regular bar. Reservation only, there are tables for 2, 4 and a large high top that seats around 8 (my guess). We sat at the bar and I recommend this option to enjoy the bartenders at work, churning out sometimes lavish and sometimes understated cocktails with expert craftsmanship! From the menu tried their twist on an old fashioned, a tequila cocktail with stone fruit and grapefruit notes and a intriguing take on Pisco with Matcha that was just sublime. In the end we went with bartenders choice on an off-menu whiskey cocktail that came smoked and tasted amazing! I believe Diversion regularly rotates the items on their menu and along with the amazing taste and service - that's reason enough for it to be high up on our visit-again list!

Yelp
The concept is nice and sophisticated, however, for the area I don't think it's a hit quite yet. Spring branch is changing obviously for the better but $35 plus a cocktail, no food on the menu other than caviar and a $50 charcuterie board. No thanks. Place is very small, limited seating, reservations required, which we weren't aware of and when we walked in the bartender was not inviting. Would have changed my mind had it been more inviting.

Yelp
Spotted this place online as a unique experience I had to try. Was able to book a 10pm reservation at the bar. It's an awesome experience from the moment you enter, with a great and classy ambiance, very attentive service, and most importantly creative and delicious cocktails. To start, I had to try out one of their immersive cocktails. Spotted the tiki inspired Day at the Beach which reminded me of a zombie, and had an interesting edible chocolate shell-- which by the way the staff hand creates and has to inspect to ensure no cracks or holes.. Also had some small bites with the fish sticks and charcuterie and cheese. Both small portions good enough as a small snack. Place has a good amount of parking, with the entrance being slightly nondescript on the right side of the building. The location itself is easy to miss-- a bit plain industrial building, which is also a little out of town (which is a relative concept.. meaning the super busy night life part at least). Personally drinks and experience were amazing, and well worth coming out here!

Yelp
best drinks in houston! no one does it like diversión. it's a dimly lit place but perfect for a date night. I'm so glad I was able to snag a spot last minute on a busy saturday night. there is so much creativity & thought put into their drinks. the times I've gone, I usually go for their more interactive drinks. i'm not much of a drinker but I enjoy drinking when it becomes an experience. diversión gives me exactly that. the candy paint had everything I'd enjoy in a cockatail & the added cinnamon stick blunt was so cute yet clever. I really wanted to try the espresso martini but i'll wait for next time! the bartenders - tammy, minh, & devin - are all amazing! we thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the bar while they did their thing. can't wait to come back to see what else they create.

Yelp
The cocktails were good. However, the service left a lot to be desired. My partner and I went on a slow Friday night. They were amply staffed and yet we were seated at a dirty table. The waitress was knowledgeable but forgot to get our second round of drinks. It was a disappointing experience. Would not recommend based on our night there. *EDIT: Someone reached out to me soon after posting this review to remedy the situation and to let me know steps were taken to make sure my experience did not happen to others.

Yelp
Great cocktails but I think everyone should know that they just changed management and the drinks are completely changed. No longer had those interesting drink concepts but more standard speakeasy type craft cocktails. Everything was very tasty but complete 180 change from prior menu so if people are trying to go for that they will be very disappointed. Menu is about half the size now as well. I don't think very different from any other speakeasy you can find in houston now. I hope they revamp the menu to include more of the more Intersting concepts they had prior because as it is overpriced for what they are currently offering. Taste wise would give 4.5/5 stars Misleading advertisement and loss of prior very cool drink concepts I would give 2/5 stars

Yelp
It was excellent!! The drinks and ingredients were intriguing. The ambience was amazing. It was dark but not too dark that you could not see anything that was happening. My sister and I tried just about everything on the menu. The Pho Cup was amazing along with the show to prepare it. The Peach Tree was great (make sure you have two people for this one), the Luau had a bite to it with Tequila and "roasted pig" and top finish everything off we tried the Glow and Tonic which is a spin on a traditional Gin and Tonic. My sister order everything on the food side except the caviar lol. Tammy, our server was so attentive to our needs and educating us about the menu items and what to pick. Overall I'll be back again!

Yelp
I almost don't even want to write this review because I'm a selfish beeyotch but W O W the entire experience was out of this world. We came for an after dinner drink. Very random area in spring branch, speakeasy vibes. Entire lot so parking isn't an issue Walking inside there's a big room divider (so you cannot see the full experience) and a velvet rope to check in. We didn't have a reservation and just thought let's see. They were able to accommodate us after a teeny tiny wait The moment you walk in past the velvet rope... Prepare yourself for over stimulation. I was in awe between the lit bar, the black curtain partitions, even the aesthetic of the employees. You feel like it's a secret club. We were sat in a cozy corner and were greeted by the server who was lovely! Explained everything to us. They rolled over a cart, which was an experience in itself, warm hand towels and a complimentary aperitif to cleanse before your drinks! We ordered tiki #1 and bourbon #2. Both delish. They finished our time here with complimentary cookies and a candy each. To wrap it up I love this place and want to come here all the time. The prices for the drinks don't even bother me because A) they were good drinks and B) they know what they're doing here

Yelp
I found this place via random Google searches, and the unique drinks caught my eye. Similar to another reviewer, I was unaware they rotated their menu, so I went in wanting to try the cereal and milk, haha. We arrived on a Friday night without a reservation and were able to get seated. The ambiance was a wonderful surprise. We loved the dim lighting and decor, and the menu lights up, which is awesome with the lighting situation. It made for a nice intimate date night. We tried ordering food, but learned the kitchen had just closed, so we were so pleasantly surprised when the waiter came out with our order a while later. I ordered the Rumorosa and my husband ordered one of their numbered drinks. We both enjoyed our cocktails and were so intrigued by the creativity it takes to create them. We would definitely return to try out more of their imaginative creations.

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my 5 year anniversary with my wife and let me tell you the experience was phenomenal. The atmosphere was very intimate and dimmed. It was a packed night with only two bartenders and one server running around. I didn't think we would get served in a timely manner, but boy was I wrong. The server, Tammy, greeted us instantly. We sat down and she was screaming with joy when I told her what I was here for. She gave us recommendations based on our preference and to my surprise they were all delicious. My wife got the Natsume and I got the T.Y Munson. As for food we got the lobster rangoons. Overall my experience here was great and would come here again.

Yelp
This place is so awesome. Everything was fantastic. Our favorite was the TY Munson but even the mocktails were delicious. Highly recommend this entertaining and clever cocktail bar.

Yelp
What a fun fun cocktails experience! Definitely make reservations - if you are coming yourself or one other, you can sit at the bar. We came as a party of four so we were seated away from the bar. But no worries - the staff was attentive and the table has a lightbulb that you will twist and light up so the staff knows you need their attention. They also provided menus that light up when opened - how 2021 is that? Most restaurants have a dark ambience and require you to use your phone flashlight to view the menu. We of course tried all the immersion cocktails and basque cheesecakes. This is definitely an experience you need to try!

Yelp
We came here for a post-dinner drink and it was quite an experience. For starters, it's in an odd location, kind of in the middle of what looks like an empty lot. No valet, which is nice, as they have a huge parking lot. We didn't have a reservation so I was prepared to be turned away at the door but thankfully they had an open table for two. The interior is beautifully designed and decorated. Tables are separated by hanging black lace curtains (not sure if this is the norm or a COVID measure). Lighting in here is dark and intimate. One of the coolest features is the backlit menu, which was very welcome considering the low lighting. They leave you with a jug of water at the table and you turn on a light bulb at your table when you're ready to order/have a question. I like this system because you can have your privacy without the servers constantly checking in on you. I ordered the Day at the Beach and my husband got the Bourbon #1. They give you hot towels, which I always love, and a complimentary aperitif as you're waiting for your drinks. The Day at the Beach is a tiki-inspired drink in an edible chocolate shell - definitely unique and tasted good as well. My husband enjoyed the Bourbon #1 as well, although he thought whatever powder they put on the glass was too much. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and service was top-notch. It does feel like a bit of a production so it may be a bit too much for some - definitely more of a special occasion place rather than somewhere to have a quick drink. The one downside, I will say, is I found the music in here too loud. For such an upscale place and considering the clientele, I would have preferred lower background music rather than loud music blaring on the speakers.

Yelp
BEST BAR EVER after going to so many across the country including NYC!!! 10/10 vibe, 11/10 taste, 12/10 creativities. Very low-key type of location with very low-key type of exterior and exclusive dining area. Intimate set-up: There are about 5-10 party capacities at their tables and 4 party capacities at their bar area. The exclusiveness reminded us Bohemian in NYC. Vibe: just look at the pics. Drinks: the creative thoughts and the level of attention-to-details really blew our minds. 10/10 is an understatement. Service (6/10): it was my girlfriend's birthday and I dropped a note for it on my reservation. Unfortunately, there were no candles that were prepared for her to blow. Just nothing. I've not come across a bar/restaurant that doesn't prepare at least a small cupcake if someone says it is his/her birthday. A bit disappointed, I will give this a 6.

Yelp
What an experience and a must try! I have never had an experience so amazing and unique. Our party enjoyed the Cereal Milk, Cava & Caviar, Vodka Watermelon and Mint Jell-O Shots, Tequila Strawberry and Tarragon Jell-O Shots, Duck Carnitas, Sweet Corn Tempura w/Elote Aioli and Szechuan Crusted Fried Chicken Strips with Dashi Aiol.

Yelp
I love cocktails with a fine presentation! The Service at Diversion Cocktails was exceptional from the LED menus to the tapas style food, I'm already craving more! Need your waiter? Just turn the light on. They'll come running . Check out Diversion Cocktails in the Houston area soon. Thank me later. Featured Cocktail: "Showtime" (it even comes with a table side movie!)

Yelp
I can't wait to go back, the drinks are AMAZING! This version of a dirty martini was just absolutely the best, I can't say enough about it!

Yelp
It's the best kept secret for small quiet place to have a great cocktail and have a unique experience with someone you care about. The service was perfect and the bathrooms are amazing!

Yelp
When I say this a cocktail spot this is one of the top in house. The service is top notch and the switch up in drinks really displays different styles. I hate when I go to a place and every cocktail is similar. This is 100% a date night ambiance type of place.

Yelp
This is a hide away place but the ambiance is awesome. When you walk in it gives old time vibe. The waitress and bartender were awesome and very informative. It is very intimate setting and the presentation is phenomenal.

Yelp
Made reservations to check this place out after dinner and loved the experience we had here. The ambience is definitely what sets this place apart from other bars. We were a little skeptical when we pulled into the parking lot but when we walked in we were definitely impressed. When you walk in they have a sign showing all the safety protocol they take such as taking your temp when you walk in, staff being tested etc.. Each person is given a black envelope for their mask which was a nice touch. We tried bourbon #1 and my husband said that it was the best old fashioned he ever had. We also had the day at the beach and it was such a pretty presentation. I highly recommend making reservations on Resy as its a pretty small place and at 7:30pm most of the seats were taken already. And make sure you make reservations to sit at the bar!

Yelp
I'm really hoping this bar has longevity! I would love for them to expand on their already classy drinks and bar bites. Not too much to get sloppy but to stay neat and swanky. I do adore this place! The nice thing about this place is it's in an empty unassuming lot that you have to trust is where you're going, lol. On the outside it's bleak and the sign isn't that big. On the inside it's sexy and swanky and surprisingly chill. I went with a group of ladies on a Thursday and enjoyed almost having the place to ourselves! There is PLENTY of parking in that big lot but do yourself and others a favor and Uber to this place if you're going to drink! The drinks are nice and thoughtful. With that in mind they do sneak up on you. One minute you're sober and the next you're swaying. We all got different drinks and got hit at the same time almost ;) Delicate and strong, complex and delicious! I ordered the Cava and Caviar. The drink came with blackberry and strawberry notes with caviar served on a preserved strawberry that was divine. I should have ordered more caviar but I didn't. It was delightful! Two of my friends ordered A Day at the Beach which was a citrus drink with lemon foam served in a homemade chocolate cup. They thought it was delicious! One of my friends ordered Tequila #2 that had an herb oil on top and she really enjoyed it. All of their ingredients are sourced from local farms and all ingredients are homemade. You can see the ingredients displayed all over the bar. Very nice!!!! We also ordered a charcuterie board and a couple of Basque cheesecakes which were delicious!!! Very nice accompaniments to the drinks. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger said, "I'll be back".

Drinks were so awesome and Devin & Minh where awesome. Devin made a me a special Smokey drink I've been waiting. So glad I found this hidden gem.
