The prices are phenomenal. Many good specials, having parking is a plus and service was good. However, that being said, the food was TRASH! I don't believe this place is still Black owned. I saw not one Black person in the kitchen, and the food reflected that. I ordered snapper, whiting, and fried okra. Everything was incredibly salty, and the fish tasted fishy, and it was rubbery indicating that it wasn't the freshest. Even the fries tasted old. They gave you a generous amount of fried okra, but again, it was salty. Many people don't SEASON their food, and all they're used to is salt/season salt; if this is you, then perhaps this will appeal to you. However, there's no excuse for serving old fish and frying it too hard. I ate a tiny bit of everything, and I just couldn't stomach it. I salvaged the coleslaw and threw everything else away. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits, and it was swimming in grease/margarine. We both agreed that the food was bad and we should have gotten bbq as originally planned 😩🤢

I first found them on Grubhub and now I order here at least once a week. I love the fried chicken here. It’s always made fresh and the seasoning is to perfection. The price is great as you can feed a family of 4 for $25. They have great deals for under $10 a person. I’ve ordered here many times and I love their sides as well. Red beans and rice plus the mac’n cheese are my go to’s. Also don’t sleep on the breakfast. I love the shrimp and grits as well as the pork chop and eggs. I enjoy the fried ribs and the Basa. It’s a must try that taste like home to me!

Be careful with them, I ordered sweet potato pie and noticed mold on it and in one instance my fish tasted sour as if it was spoiled.

This is a hidden hood gem Im Mexican but if you love you some soul foods this was really good, couldn't stop eating till I got full and took the pictures to share my beautiful experience. The area might be in the hood but it's definitely worth it. Gotta love the ghetto. East Oakland is my town

Everything at Dixon's is delicious! Food fresh hot, and tasty! Taste like real SOUL FOOD! That's why I keep coming back! Their food is consistently good! Best fried chicken in EAST OAKLAND! WHEN I say everything is good I mean everything!! Thank you Dixon's for providing Oakland with good food for the soul! 100/10

When we go usually its fantastic especially with the affordable prices and deliciousfood/options. But today the cooks in the back was not the regulars nd the chicken wasnt crispy like they wasnt coated properly and they are small the bread was hard. The prawns also disappointing The REDSNAPPER SANDWICH HAD BONES INIT. The Yams and Mac was the only good part <28 dollers. > we was order 75

The fish and chicken were fried perfectly, it was glorious. They have fish and grits, they really do. Nobody but them has this combo on the regular. The bbq is ok, the sauce is not hittn. The prices reflect a profound lack of greed. So rare and much needed. This ambiance is joyful and stress free. I wanted to kick it here all day and eat.

Great food in the fried chicken wings and fried catfish 2 way large. 2 way means 2 meats and large means 5 pieces of meat per serving versus regular means 3 pieces of meat per. They were delicious! The side like baked beans, were a miss. Tasted like chili, and yams were just OK, don't look in the back expecting to see your grandma on the side dishes. The red velvet was decent. The chicken and fish are the calling card for this place. Note the place is located in what some people view as a sketchy area. However, you should be fine but use your discretion. I will come again.

I started going to this place back in 2022 and the first thing I ordered was the fish ( basa combo and I love it ordered only that for about a 6 months. Then I started exploring some of their other options and realized that they were good as well. I like this place menu they are very creative with their combinations . The only problem is the over the phone orders they don't have that system down packed yet...

The breakfast was great. The bean and rice wasn't all that, fried ribs was okay it would have been better with some dipping BBQ SAUCE I did like that they heated up the peach cobbler however it was bland, The fried chicken was great. Service was fine at the time I went at 10am its was a 20 minute wait. I will go again probably try something different.

I come for the chicken! The macaroni is bomb too. The line is sometimes a slow wait, ordering for pickup does not ensure a faster process because no matter who you are they don't drop the food in the fryer til you get there

Was looking for a spot to grab some lunch & pulled up to Dixon's. There's quite a bit to choose from on the menu, seafood, chicken & bbq. The bbq smelled good but I didn't have a taste for it so I went w/the fried seafood. Oysters 4outta5 perfectly cooked Shrimp 3outta5 could of used a touch more breading Snapper 3outta5 good cook, no flavor Hushpuppies 5outta5! Crispy outside moist inside I can only imagine how much more delicious the food could be w/a lil mo seasoning. Service 5outta5 Ambiance 2outta5 (the area's a lil sketchy) I was satisfied & might patronize them again & try the bbq. We'll see...

I am so disappointed. I ordered barbecue the two-way and beside the food being cold I got two little ribs and a whole bunch of links that were not barbecued at all. I remember coming to this restaurant before and it wasn't like this. They're slowly going downhill and I think I'm going to take my business elsewhere from now on. Maybe the owner need to do a little quality control because it should've never happened. I waited 20 minutes to have cold food and be disappointed. I will not recommend this place to anybody if you want barbecue.

Came to Dixons as a second choice it was ok the place is pretty run down in a sketchy part of the neighborhood !! But i grew up in a hood!!! lol so I didn't feel outta place but if you didn't you may not wanna come here,the food was ok the wings were crispy and cooked through, the catfish was crispy as well but could have used more seasoning the fries were the best thing to eat they had seasoned salt and were tasty the portions were ok seen a lot of people actually in this place, the wait wasn't too long the girl at the register was kind it wasn't a bad spot but have had better.

Because I don't know how to fry chicken, there is an art to it, I checked out Dixons and was not disappointed. I think the bag keeps it crispy. Seasoned perfectly reminds me if my Moms fried chicken. Same thing goes for oysters and catfish. Sometimes you get catfish that's so thin when fried you get crispy something? The catfish filets were a good size so that when coated in cornmeal and fried you had crispy outside and lite flaky fish inside. This will definitely be my go too fried food spot!

We walked in and was pleasantly greeted! It smelled amazing. Mrs. Dixon came out greeted us and made a few suggestions. I got sole and wings, greens and Mac n cheese! It made me lick my fingers! I had plenty of tarter sauce, hot sauce and ketchup. Some places are so cheap and give you the bare minimum! Not here I had left overs. My daughter got fish and oysters, Spaghetti and greens. She said if she worked there she would be so so so fat because the food was so delicious. Not to mention we got to hickey punch and it was so cold Quinn start Thursday we usually get two or three cans of peas in the one tiki punch actually worked for us we we just got one each. Thanks Dixon keep up the great work we will be there

The young man behind the counter was very nice. Chicken wings were okay.The peach cobbler was horrible! Too much nutmeg & no crust. Took 2 bites & threw it away.

You really can't beat that delicious af 7.99 fish sandwich combo. Everything comes fresh and hot. It's such a good deal, like fast food prices for higher quality food. Loved that the sandwich came with two pieces of fried fish on it. They really don't skimp.

This is a classic hood spot. It's no frills, takeout. Fish, chicken shrimp spot. Frozen seasoned fries and they also have several side options. The food is decently priced for the neighborhood and the portions are average. I personally like to order the fish sandwich combo which is about 8.75 with fries and a drink. The fish/shrimp is fried in a classic Louisiana fish fry mix, everything is cooked to order. The chicken is decent also. Just very basic flavors but good enough to eat, I would say better than a local fast food spot. Call before you order so that you can just go pick it up.

It is definitely worth trying out Dixon's if you are a fan of fried chicken, great deals or both. It is a no frills dine in or more popular take out spot. They have everything including Chicken, ribs, fish, fries, and all the sides. They also serve breakfast and dessert. Today I tried the Fried chicken sandwich (that was just ok ) and the half fried chicken and fries. The real winner is the Fried chicken and fries which came out to $5. It's an incredible amount of food for the price. And although I have had more flavorful chicken, it came out freshly cooked and piping hot. For those looking to get full for $5 and eat a quality meal, its hard to beat Dixon's. The food is terrible shrimp fried to hard,rib tips no meat dried out if your use to eating garbage this is the place to go besides he have Hispanics runs the place now what soul food nasty!!!!

I hadn't been in I many years decided to take my mom after church for the barbecue and chicken special well I was disappointed because my mom wasn't satisfied with the food so I had to cook sunday and that wasn't in plan I thought Dixons would come though for us I wish yall luck because things have changed alot.

I like the food but they are stingy with the sauce. Whenever our work orders through DD, the workers don't read any of the special instructions. "Special," as in "tartar sauce for the fish" or "no bread." They don't give any utensils either. These people are weird about their tartar sauce. They aren't even cheap either.

The is well prepared and seasoned to perfection. Ambiance is okay. If I can suggest 1 thing is that they answer their phone so that my food can be ready when I get there. I highly recommend this place of business

Food...chicken was good, nice and crispy, but way too oven-hot for consumption. Service...relaxed to say the least. Ambiance...none whatsoever. Rather horrid, actually.

OK they got 2 stars because I couldn't leave one I went there today and it's a shame that there was a sister in the back, short hair glasses fried chicken too fast, serving it to people raw and had an attitude, and the 2 young women at register didn't speak English could barely work. The register she act like she had an attitude so I start to take it back to her but I said she must need the money. so again, she's ripping off. The community selling people raw chicken. I was shocked but then I wasn't surprised because place wasnt clean.. I won't be going back. REMEMBER TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BITE FOOD.....

The other day, I was cruising thru deep East Oakland and happen to pass Dixon's at 90th Ave x International. I ordered a "3-Way Combo" and a "Fried Ribs & Party Wings." The 3-Way Combo: You pick 3 items and a side. I went with chicken, prawns and fish. My side was potato salad. How was it? The fried chicken was okay, it wasn't freshly cooked. But it was seasoned just right. It's not overly salty like KKC (Krispy Krunchy chicken). The prawns were plump and juicy, with a nice flavor. But the fried fish was very good. It was cooked fresh. BTW, I had to wait 20 mins for my order, and I was told nicely that they had to fry the fish. That fish was fresh, flaky and moist. The flavor was delicate, but the crispy crust made is worth the wait! Fried Ribs & Wings: The Party Wings were pretty good size, and nicely seasoned. But the fried ribs were delicious! I don't think I have ever eaten fried ribs. I was afraid that they would be dry and overcooked. Very impressed.....you bite into this meaty sparerib and it's juicy and fatty. The meat is tender and nicely seasoned. Service: staff were friendly and respectful. Dixon's is listed on DoorDash. If you're not familiar with "deep" East Oakland, maybe you should have your food delivered. Just a suggestion. Support Local Business!

Heard about Dixon's from my neighbor. She's a frequent customer and says the fish is really good. I prefer snapper over all the other fish varieties so maybe that was my issue. Upon arriving, it's a decent size parking lot big enough to fit about 7-8 cars if parked decently. Inside, looks like a little hole in the wall, hood spot honestly. Could use some remodeling or some care at least. I already knew what I wanted, so I ordered the family deal snapper for $27.99 which included 2 regular fries and 6 slices of bread. I also added 5pc lemon pepper party wings. The wait was pretty long, I realized I should have called first. I must admit it was a constant flow of traffic so I was sold that this was going to be some great fish/chicken. As I got home to open the food, first thing I noticed were how big the party wings were and they were drenched in seasoning. Looked like basic seasoning I could get at Safeway or something. Next, the fish had just come out of the grease and it was all just thrown on top of each other to the point where some pieces were so soggy from the oil and the breading was falling off the fish. Like why would they just throw all the pieces in the boat at one time and bag it. It was giving lazy. Flavor on the wings was better than flavor on the fish. The fish lacked flavor all I tasted was salt. My son didn't even finish his fish but said the wings were good. The fries were typical frozen Ore-Ida fries. I honestly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know. Maybe my expectations were high but it was just not good at all. My husband and I had a stomach ache a little after eating it. Just an overall lackluster experience.

The food was very good, we had the Fried Chicken, Fried Red Snapper w/fries and greens. The fried food was crispy, not oily or overcooked. We wanted to try the desserts but they were all sold out. So we will definitely make another trip. The cashier was nice and the restaurant was small with limited parking. Definitely worth a try.

Went to get some chicken and fish. The fish was ok but the wings were really really small. I got a 3 peice and it didn't really equal to 1 whole wing! Need to do better!

This place is screwed up. I ordered on line and I was notified it was ready but I had to stand in line behind everyone ordering. No way to just pick up food that was prepaid. What a mess. They called grub hub so I went over and it was my order. The fried chicken was slightly spicy. The 8 pieces were 2 thighs and 2 drums a breast and 3 small wings. I had the hush puppies which were the size of small brussel sprouts but tasted okay. The snapper dinner comes with 8 smallish pieces. My wife said they were dried out. She liked the greens and fries. The food was a solid 3 stars but the signage and online pick up were 1 star.

This weekend (Superbowl weekend) was my first time at Dixon's. The fried fish & chicken was amazing!!! This is now my go to spot for fried fish or chicken. The party platters were plentiful. I can't wait to try the side dishes. Great food, great prices and excellent service. This is a hidden gem. No more overly priced and NOT SO GREAT JJ's or Krispy Krunchy Chicken.

If I could give zero stars I would. When I first tried their food it was good. I tried the party wings the fried ribs and oysters. Everything was perfect, the flavor was on point. After my second time eating there the food became Blan no seasoning and undercooked. This last time my family and I said let's give them one more try because they said they had a new cook the new cook is all bad whoever was cooking their food before maybe about 3 or 4 months ago should still be cooking. The two large oysters plates I got was horrible. I'm never eating there again complete waste of time and money. Mr. Dixon should be shame!

Greens were watery and no pork in them. Sheeesh at least throw some turkey neck in there. Fish was cooked well but lacked seasoning. Not bad but not worth 75 for three people. 1# chicken n fish on Mac is better but I'd give them another shot.

Since it was my 1st time there... the young lady on the registered assisted me she had excellent service... it didn't take long... now as far as my plate I had the 3 way.. prawns, red snapper, catfish... it was season very well, NOT SALTY, prawns was off the hook... I needed more of them.. then the fish hit my spot... Service was great... food was great... place was clean... I would go again great spot for some fish...

Back in the day this was the fish spot to go to and then they re-surfaced. So excited! They started off great. However, my last visit is my last visit. I ordered the fried ribs which used to be great! What I got looked like the scraps from a trimmed pork chop. No meat - all bad. To make matters worse (if that's possible) the french fries were half cooked and greasy. Seriously disappointing.

I'm big on fish. And I was so disappointed , because everyone was telling me how good this place was. I must say this place was not it. Maybe it's just me but they could have been rushing but I'll never eat here again

Great business & customer service first of all. Family oriented I love supporting good black businesses & this is one that's a pillard in the community good soul food for a reasonable price. You can can come to grab a quick lunch for work or a nice size dinner that the whole family can eat without burning a whole in your pocket. For that alone I will continue to support this business

So glad my husband and I stopped here! We were driving and I saw the sign! My husband asked the people walking in front of us if this place was good and they said YES! The young girl at the counter was very polite. The food didn't take long at all and it was delicious! We ordered the fried ribs, red snapper, chicken strips, and fried chicken. Definitely will be coming back with the kids!

The pineapple coconut cake was ok, and that's about it. The greens were like doctored up greens out of a can. Hush puppies were a terrible, but I've had them in New Orleans so you can't really compare. Mac n cheese, noodles were overcooked and the cheese didn't seem like real cheese. The chicken was dry and not fresh at all. We didn't receive the drink that was supposed to come with the combo.

First time here! Food is good. We ordered a 3 way combo with fried chicken, oysters and prawns ($22.93) fries instead of potato salad although I was itching to ask for a sample. Boo LOVED the food and said, "I'll be going here from now on." I don't eat chicken but the prawns were delicious, next time I will request the oysters to be fried a little harder but the flavor was still good. There were only gentlemen working and all were polite - we will return as I want to try the potato salad and Boo said he wants to try the fish.
