The Best Restaurants in Outremont, Montreal - Eater Montreal

"Having hit the scene in the sizzling summer of 2017, this Congolese rotisserie chicken spot is confident in its spicy recipes. Beyond the chicken, sides also hail from the Congo and Côte d’Ivoire, including attieké (fermented cassava — a nutty, starchy root vegetable) and alloco (fried plantains with chile and onion). They’re worthy add-ons to your quarter, half, or full chicken order." - Daniel Bromberg

I absolutely love this place. I have to literally stop myself from going there all the time. Everything they serve is top notch but the chicken is from another universe. I cook well myself but I'd break a bank to get my hands on that chicken recipe. The lady at the counter always has the biggest smile on and is very pleasant, big kudos to the chef at the back for the great work. Thanks for representing Africa well, I'm so proud of our food whenever I visit. Keep up the good work. Amazing service, immensely delicious food and at good prices. Very highly recommended

I have to be honest. I got a whole chicken from DJ poulet and a whole chicken from one of the most famous Portuguese chicken spots in Montreal for a tasting test. Portion: DJ poulet chicken was significantly smaller (2/3 the size) Price: DJ poulet was 20% more expensive for just the chicken Sides: DJ didnt have all the sides available but the plantain was so good! Freshly made to order. The rice was ok, meets expectations but nothing to talking about. Taste: PJ poulet wins by far. I was shocked but it was delicious. And this was unanimous for the whole group. This is my go to spot for charcoal chicken. Overall: call ahead and order your chicken and enjoy the best charcoal flavoured chicken!

Yummm! We want to go to Africa after having this yummy food 😋 I got quarter chicken combo with attieke and alloco. My husband got the combo with rice and alloco. Everything is so tasty. We add a little extra salt to our food, so we had to add a little just to the chicken, but it had such good taste. Even the salad that comes with it is so flavorful. Hot sauce 🔥love it! Next time we would order half chicken (we have a big appetite). Really affordable too. Definitely recommended!

Delicious food! I’ve been here multiple times, the quality is always impeccable. The food is delicious, chicken on charcoal, the service is amazing. The people are just as hearty as the food! I greatly recommend this place!

Went there once at lunch, it was quite busy but not packed. A few people ordered one after another. The service was slow because of that, 30min+ and only gotten water after a good 10-15 mins. The food was good, the price is decent. The inside is a bit ghetto. The staffs are nice. The chicken tasted the nice charcoal and it was still a bit juicy/flavorful. My complaint is the wait time to actually get food. The place is not very big and some 18 seats to sit down. Don't do a big group event here.

Loved DJ Poulet. Awesome food from West Africa with really friendly service. I wasn't too clued up on what to order with my chicken so was recommended attieke (yam couscous) and alloco (fried plantains). Both were amazing. Big thumbs up - definitely will return!

Google
Best discovery EVER! I have never been more impressed by chicken in my life (and Montreal has a pretty solid chicken scene, re: Ma Poule Mouillée, Romados, Poulet Bronze... so many) but DJ Poulet makes your tastebuds play symphonies! The chicken is moist and flavourful and the sides are SO good! Service is also great! They do get really busy though and it’s a smaller space so keep that in mind. They only really have a couple of menu items but honestly that’s how you know this place is amazing! They take great care in their chicken!

Yelp
Their chicken is out of this world! Super flavourful, tender and has that awesome bbq taste but cooked inside (if that makes sense!). It's a fantastic gem in the Outremont area and I was so happy to have discovered it while randomly walking around. Décor of the restaurant is super cool, waiters are really nice and tell you about their menu (especially their super tasty sides). Sometimes it's a little bit slow but I think that's when they're overburdened with too many people or delivery orders. I can speak to both delivery and dine in. Both are great. They don't have much in terms of what they offer but what they do have, they do exceptionally well! They have a secret spicy sauce on the side that is SUPER awesome. It's hard to describe it apart from saying that it's spicy but it's so much more than that. I highly recommend ordering it. Our favourite side is the cassava couscous and the plantains. So. Good. The chicken is the true star of the show. As I mentioned earlier, it has a Smokey, tastes like it came off a bbq outside. It's also slightly spicy but not too spicy at all. It has a unique taste that makes you want more. It's really something that I think everyone needs to taste, especially if you are a fan of all the unique ways chicken can be cooked!

Yelp
Had to give DJ Poulet their first yelp review!! Menu is super simple here which makes deciding on what to get fast and easy. Any quantity of chicken includes 2 delicious sides. Staff is smiley and welcoming. Definitely a bargain for the quality + quantity you get. Definitely recommend checking this place out!!! Jonah

Yelp
Update: I went here again and was excited to go back but was very disappointed. The rice wasn't even close to being the same. It was like Uncle Ben's that was made yesterday. Bummed!!

Yelp
There are a lot of great chicken restaurants in Montreal: Portuguese, rotisserie, etc. I think DJ Poulet is a great addition to crowd. This African restaurant has one main course on the menu: chicken. And they do it well! You just choose how much you want. And for a few bucks more, you can choose a couple of sides...and you should! I had a 1/2 chicken with a side of plantain and manioc and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken is so well seasoned and the plantain perfectly cooked. It all left me wanting more!

Yelp
Since I couldn't get delivery, It had been a couple of months that I'd been drooling over their Insta stories. I mean, they know how to work that camera on that juicy chicken , but I was finally in the area to pick up and try. Ordered the whole chicken combo and the guy at the counter (I'm thinking Dj Poulet) made sure it was well taken care of since it was my first time. And Yes... it was good chicken! You can really taste the charcoal! But not overpowering, just perfect and juicy...even considering that I had to re-heat it at home. They smother it with a special fragrant oil (instagram). The spicy sauce that came on the side was the bomb. I would say it was more like a spicy paste, but that was nowhere near an issue. The rice was delicious, kind of like a seasoned sticky rice. I could have eaten tons of it. The plantains were good too! But man, that chicken is the star! And at a fair price. Can't wait to go back and grab me another bird from the Dj.

Yelp
The awesome food and staff at DJ Poulet make having a meal an outstanding experience! They are truly masters of chicken and know how to cook an above average bird. I had fun at the restaurant and highly recommend trying the plantain!

Yelp
Juicy chicken! Not portugese! Good price and great service!
