My first visit to Dochi has been a long time coming! When it opened inside the Uwajimaya market in 2019, I remember seeing lines of people wrapped around the building just for these donuts. Now, after almost three years, I finally tried Dochi for myself.
They feature six flavors at a time, but rotate them on a regular basis. Around noon on a Saturday, we paid and received our box of treats in just a couple minutes. We ordered a half-dozen for $15 and got one of each flavor. It was mandatory that we tasted them all!
+ Coffee Red Velvet: My favorite by far! The frosting had a robust coffee flavor and specks of real beans. Red Velvet crumbles were sprinkled on top, but they didn't add much except for a little extra color. I would gladly order a whole box of just these.
+ Ube Glazed: The ube flavor was very mild. Although the dough is purple, it tastes like the traditional dough of the others. This is like their version of a classic glazed donut.
+ Ube Coconut: Same as the above, except topped with coconut.
+ Strawberry Pebbles: This one was pretty sweet, but I enjoyed it more than I expected! The pink frosting tasted like a strawberry Pocky stick and the Fruity Pebbles gave each bite a nice crunch.
+ Choco Almonds: Tasted exactly like it sounds, coated with a milk chocolate frosting and crushed almonds.
+ Matcha Oreo: While an unpopular opinion, this was my least favorite. The matcha was pretty subtle and I barely tasted the Oreo sprinkles, so it was a little bland.
I enjoyed the texture of the donuts which were so soft, springy and chewy. Except for the Ube, all the donuts are made of the same dough and the flavor is fully dependent on the frosting and toppings. Other than a half-dozen, you can purchase a single donut for $2.75 or full dozen for $28. I would consider prices within reason considering that these are a unique type of donut, but any price increases would definitely be pushing it. Dochi is absolutely worth a try!
