Dock's

This place was not it other than the great art work. This place was not anything I would go back to. The food was just blah. I ordered the fish sandwich they said they were famous for. It was just okay. No seasoning really. The fries were not hot and had no salt at all. Nothing special about it. I got extra tartar sauce only to learn it was packages. We were a group of 7 who wanted to eat in the restaurant. There were not enough seats at all. The tables were all wobbly. There's not restroom for customers. I repeat, you cannot even wash your hands because there's not a restroom at all. I had to go next door to the hair salon and they so graciously allowed me to use their facilities. A friend got the banana pudding. Well, it tasted like lemon Oreo cookies. Nothing like banana pudding. The tea was good. I think that may be the only reason people still go to this place. For Chicago to be this food Mecca, we southerners were not impressed at all.

The catfish nuggets were the bomb! I truly enjoyed the meal!!! Nothing else to add at this time!

Dock's just ain't what it used to be. Me and my boy Richard F. used to slam Fishwiches from the location on 87th. Over time we went less and less. That location has the worst customer service and it takes FOREVER to fulfil orders. I was pleasantly surprised to see this new location. For +20 years I believe there was only one Dock's. I ordered delivery. They started off all wrong by forgetting my Dockberry shake. If you're a true Southsider, (not one of these Johnny come latelies that think it's a hip new trend to live South of Bridgeport) you'll understand this is unforgivable. I'll cast that egregious mistake aside because it could've been the drivers fault. Overall still 3 star worthy. Not delicious. Not bad. Dock's will forever be a legend, unfortunately their hayday is no more. Pro Tip: Skip the fries.

This isn't the Dock's of the pass. I was driving down 35th street when I spied the DOCK's sign. I drove around that long block to get back to the restaurant. If I could've seen the future, I would've keep on going. The sandwich was a great disappointment. It had no redeeming quality about it. The bun was falling apart, a sign of staleness, the fish was not flesh and the lettuce and tomatoes were limp. And the cold slaw was "OMG" (bad). I read same reviews that stated the meal was delicious, so Dock's management, if we are reading these bad reviews, make sure all the meals are good. There is no love or pride in the food preparation and it shows. If I lived closer to the store, I would've taken it back for some kind of satisfaction. The employees are destroying a timeless Name. Dock's use to be Fabulous, at all times..... I'm just saying. Do better. I'll be back.

It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday We stopped by the CCH location recently to grab some take out since many of my favorite haunts in the area have now folded. Ordered 2 Fishwich and 2 Dockberry milkshakes, $36.45. Everything costs more, so no point in tripping on that. We were 2 miles away and thirsty when I realized our drinks weren't with us. Pulled over, Google'd the phone number, went back to get what was missing - no drama. I guess I was looking for a 30 year old memory that could not be regained. Spongy bread, extra charge for cheese, even the shake didn't seem as thick as it once was. And no matter what you order, the combo is designed to set you back at least $30 minimum for two people. Just have to shake my head. Not mad, just disappointed. The thrill has gone. I'm done.

DELICIOUS!!! My 1st time eating Docks and everything was on point, so much flavor. Our fishwich was crispy and hot, the bread was soft and the fries were hot and crispy as well. So glad we stopped in on our way home.

When I go to Docks it's has more sentimental meaning then anything, especially on 35th street. My grandmother use to take me to Docks every Friday for the famous fishwish meal with the amazing docknerry shake. Never been disappointed..till last evening. I was so happy about the fact that not only black owned but that it was brought back to the now in Bronzeville. This my first time coming but last night was totally different. The fishwich was totally all over the place. Wasn't the amazing put together sandwich as before. What did you guys do to the fries? These crispy battered fries were the worse. What happened to the crinkles cut regular fries?? Please bring the ole fries back and give a little More loving to the famous fishwish!!!

I live in Bronzeville here in Chicago. When the pandemic arrived we had to stop going outside and could not use the store in the beginning. But as time went on Dock's started using DoorDash and we were able to get our favorite fish from them and what a blessing that was. Dock's never fails to give you fresh fish all the time and I remember the taste of the fish and the Dockberry shakes....nothing has changed except the locations. I remember the Dock's on 87th and the Dan Ryan and would always go there and then everybody in the neighborhood lined up outside their door when they opened here in Bronzeville. I am so glad I stuck with them during the pandemic cause I did not want to give up that wonderful fish I had come to know and love. Hope this helps.

First visit at this location. My usual Docks is of course 87th Dan Ryan. OK, so this location is very nice. Great design, nice seating, Great Wall pictures. The food comes out fast compared to 87th BUT the taste is not there yet. My food was just ok. It wasn't hot. It's as if they've cooked the food ahead of time; which is why I'm guessing they have a quicker turnaround. I ordered 3 fishwich and the lettuce was "dead" totally brown. REALLY!!! I'll give this location a little more time to get the taste right. Until then I'll go to Docks on 87th. Place my order go shopping. Take a nap then go back in and wait 30 more minutes.

I arrived 15 minutes after they opened and the line was already out the door. I ordered a fishwich and a shrimp tease. Pros: Food tasted great, was hot and fresh, and I received my order within 10 minutes (way faster than 87th street). Cons: Shrimp tease only comes with three shrimp and a fry as opposed to five, and the price for some items are higher ( I expected this due to location). I subtracted a star because the shrimp tease only comes with three shrimp, which is disappointing for what we expect from Docks.

The service was great , the cashiers were friendly the food was fresh. However, the catfish steaks were not seasoned well, and the portion were small(3pcs)steaks. Deep sea nuggets were ok. Not the same batter as the docks on 87th street. Overall, it was OK. I was really hoping that the taste was the same as I remembered(not so much). I will go back for a 2nd try. Hopefully, next time the taste will be as authentic as I remember.

I've have always loved Dock's and though it may not be what I remembered, I'm pleased with the service and the food. Of course this is the location on 35th and Prairie.

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery but it's really shameful to see people hijack a history of a restaurant they did not create to make a profit. The food isn't even as good. I can not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Any real Dock's patron from the old years should not support this when no recognition of the original black founder has ever even been recognized or noted. Really appalling to say the least. If you frequent this place just know that this it in no way shape or form the original in values, quality and history and is in no affiliation to the family and the founder.

It's 2:00 pm Friday afternoon. I order catfish; order #131. I wait. It's 2:19; multiple customers have come behind me, all have left with their respective orders. I inquire about my order. The young lady says catfish is dropped when ordered and takes 8 minutes. It's been more than 8 minutes. She then inquired of cook staff, I can hear the bickering.....the order was completely overlooked! The same young lady asks if I want refund. No apology! No regard for my time! Nothing! YES, I want a refund. I leave with my $9.14, no lunch and 20 minutes wasted watching other customers. I tried to call to speak with management, they didn't answer phone. I gave up after three (3) tries.

I ordered from grub hub. The sandwich was cold, my child's wing dinner was cold as well. Went to warm it up but he didn't eat it, i tasted a wing and it taste like they fried it in old grease. I'll stick with the original docks on 87th.

Nice quick bite to eat. I got the fish sandwich. It came with lettuce, tomatoes, and sliced cheese. It was delicious. The wait was a bit too long. Maybe next time I'll place my order a head of time to avoid the wait.

The food is great! However, they still haven't gotten their ordering system down pat yet. Orders are made in no specific order, first customer in, last out and vice versa and you could end up waiting 20 minutes, as I did, for a shrimp tastee (3 shrimp and a handful of fries). Come to find out, my order was sitting on the counter all along...no apology rendered. Also, the music is so loud that the customers can't hear their order being called. When you make suggestions on how to satisfy customers, they just ignore you. They also need either headphones or an on ordering system in the back so that they can stop shouting out orders to the cook(s)who spends a lot of time playing around. I Hope they get it together soon, because the food is really good!!

My mom and I ordered two fishwish sandwich combos. The fish was fried well. It just wasn't all that. My cashier was an older woman who was very nice. The restaurant was nice and clean. My order came out fast. I just wasn't impressed with the my sandwich. It wasn't bad it just wasn't all that and a bag of chips like I though would be. They also have shakes and bean pies too. I will try again just to see if it was an off day or not.

This place needs help. I just ordered my family and I some food, and I must say I should have went to Sharks. I ordered a catfish nugget combo and my daughter a 4 wing combo and I literally had to argue with about a can pop a can pop!!! Mind you the pop was not the problem but the principle of the matter give me what I pay for!!! I was told when I called in that my order would be ready in an 20 minutes but that was a fib try an hour and mind you I ordered a combo and did not receive no coleslaw I will not be returning no time soon

Grew up on Docks as a special weekend dinner treat from my parents, moved out this way and was thrilled to see Docks is still around. Got Docks for Good Friday and the fish was well seasoned and fried right! I ordered online for pick up using the Yelp app, and from reading the reviews and seeing the amount of people waiting when I got there was happy I ordered ahead.

My husband ordered me a fishwich with extra tartar and that didnt happen the sandwiches dry. They didn't even give packages of tarter sauce. The fish wasn't fresh/not even warm, a butt end tomato and a 25 minute wait. This fish was prob6in you food window since the morning off that what it tasted like. This is unacceptable you just opened 4 days ago...not happy about it. Would you want this as your sandwich? If I could give 0 stars I would. Had we not been as far I would've brought it back for a refund.

I really enjoyed my fishwich which was on special on a Wednesday, it was so good. The bread was a bit heavy but other than that the walleye was great. I can't wait to go back, it's right around the corner from my place. The food came up fast and fresh. The staff was helpful as I had never been there before.

This place has the best fish dinners!! The breading is always so flavorful and crispy. Comes super hot and fresh even when ordering delivery. The wait is over an hour, but it's well worth it.

Great Food! Always loved Dock's. Glad they made a comeback from the shack they had in the 87th street mall. Nonetheless, I placed my order, and thankfully it was done correctly and on time. Keep up tbe good service.

Service was great. Got sick shortly after eating half of a sandwich. The fish seemed fresh. Had to be the grease that it was cooked in.

Came for lunch today and had the fish sandwich. The sandwich was amazing and fresh. Also ordered some fish nuggets which were also great. Got to speak to the owner and he was a great humble guy. Would definitely recommend.

I spent 50 bucks at the new dicks on 35th St. I've been anticipating the restaurants open. I loved docks as a kid. I was very disappointed. The fish was old, well pass the serve date, we tossed it, and to top it off the service was crappy. I won't be back.

This probably the best fish restaurant in Illinois. Dock's fish was on our dinner table almost every week growing up. Fish is always fresh and cooked perfectly. I love the fish nuggets, but the Fishwich sandwich takes the cake (with a Dockberry Shake of course)!! So happy this location on 35th was opened.

It's amazing to see them back! This has to be the best fish in Chicago hands down! The line was packed out the door but I still got my shrimp and catfish dinners hot and fresh! I will definitely be back!

We waited until all the hype and kinks slowly disappeared to make a dash for this new location. I went on a Saturday night and it was not as crowded as I thought it would be. The cashier was pleasant, service/wait time was expected when food is cooked to order. We ordered a fish & shrimp combo and an order of deep sea nuggets. The food was hot fresh and well-seasoned. We were impressed! We won't be back soon but definitely in the future.

Delicious and fast! So glad to have ability to order ahead. Had the jr fishwich, and partner had the fish and chips. All good! Yummy dockberry shakes, banana pudding and red velvet cake. Will be back soon!

The food is really good and the service is too! Very clean atmosphere and the nice guy ringing me up reminded me of one of my favorite uncles LoL! I knew then the food would be good! Try them out, you won't be disappointed. It was also a plus to find out it is a black owned business.

I want to first start off saying the young ladies at the front were very polite & helpful. Even the young lady that was being trained. Didn't wait more than 10mins for my food which is totally acceptable. What is unacceptable is the laziness of the prep crew. How do you slice tomatoes & not take off the brown part of the top & bottom? Of course I would get a large chunk of both on my sandwich. Also onion rings left a lot to be desired. They should choose a better frozen brand. Sandwich was tasty.

This was my first time having Dock's and I throughly enjoyed it. I got the Fish Wish Sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and tarter sauce. I definitely recommend this option. It had two pieces of fish and it was a hearty sandwich. My husband had the Shrimp Po'boy, it wasn't the best. Not a lot of shrimp, but a lot of bread. It was a small sandwich compared to the Fish Wish. He also had the wings...stick to the Fish Wish...leave the chicken to Harold's. I usually enjoy coleslaw, but this one doesn't seem to be kept well. Our friend ordered the sea bass nuggets and I would get those again! Definitely a good choice. Overall, it was a good experience. I would go back.

The fishwich was delicious! I ordered it with cheese and fried hard and they made it to perfection. Everything was piping hot and fresh out of the grease. The deep sea nuggets were breaded just right and a good amount of food for the price. The ladies working were very cordial and made sure I had everything that I needed. When I come back home again to visit I will definitely come back to Dock's!

Fish was over fried and sliding right out of breading . Never seen that before . The fries were old and stale , bread was hard and dry . Also no condiments were prepared and packed . Also overall really loin and obnoxious at counter screaming at staff . I won't be back - the Chatham location taste better and is better quality .

When did Dock's start giving out SWAY....I am mad as HELL!!! I have ordered 10 pieces of fish before....and I got the same fish....like the fish in the FISHWICH sandwich....today I ended up with SWAY....If I stayed close by....I would go back and get my money back!!!!!.....That's lowdown....and you know it.....I will never, ever go back to your place of business....and the word is OUT!!!!!

The fries were cold, shrimps were not fresh. Slow service. Considering this is one of a few Dock's in the city, I expected more.

Iam so excited to find the best fish sandwich, it's was ReAly tasty service was good . Can't wait to go back again

Sorry to write....whiting fish wasn't good. Fish fried hard Not like fish Docks use to have. But the front line customer service was good.

The fish was under seasoned and tasted as though it was spoiled and immediately led to me and my husband getting sick. I was sad because the reviews had been amazing.

Just checked this docks out opening week. Great employees and the fishwichs are delicious definitely recommend this location in the city.

This location is amazing! It's a great alternative for those who live further north of 87th. The food is always fresh and cooked perfectly! My faves are the jumbo shrimp, fishwish, and Dockberry shake. It's also black owned, and the owners are amazing as well! 5-star customer service all around! Check them out!

Went to the Dock's location on 35th and Calumet and was very surprised to see it there first of all. Ordered a Fishwich and a shrimp dinner and was going to leave and come back. I'm used to 30/40 minutes on getting my food from the other location in Chicago but they asked me not to leave and it would be up shortly. To my surprise, I received my food in about 10 minutes and it was excellent! Will definitely be back and knowing it is much quicker, I can go there for lunch!

This is like my third time eating at this establishment. The first time I ordered a fish sandwich which was good. The second time I ordered 2 sandwich combos, shrimp combo and 3 cakes. Again, it was good, only thing I would say is to fry the fish a little harder. I went into dock's 8/18 (Sunday) I ordered a large Sea nuggets combo and a berry shake. I placed my order at 3:38. Lord Jesus, I didn't receive my food until 4:38. The girls behind the register play Entirely too much, I guess they couldn't keep their focus because boys where in their faces. Anywho, they kept forgetting people's orders and messing up orders. this guy placed his order before me and never received it. The girl at the register had a bad attitude, she was arguing with the customers. I'm a very patient person, I sat there a little longer Observing what was going on. I walked up to the counter and asked to talk to the manager the girl at the register looked at me and rolled her eyes I said "sweetheart I've been waiting an hour for my food there's no reason why you should have an attitude with me," I waited 10 more minutes for my food that I know for sure they forgot. When I got my food I had about 8 french fries at the bottom of the bag, They were cold so she gave me two fresh fries, Which I still was getting attitude. And my shake was watered down. The food wasn't bad it's just the service. They need a lot of help And some structure. This could be a great Establishment, But they need to learn customer service Is everything. I'm taking a break from this place until they get it together.
