Dog Ears Café & Bookstore may be best known as a community hub and literary café, but locals in the know rave about its classic char-grilled hot dogs, served up with a side of literary charm. One of Buffalo's independent bookstores, and the only not for profit, the drinks, food and atmosphere are all absolutely wonderful. One of my favorite places in the city!

It's okay. The sandwich I had was good. The drink I had was okay. The bookstore aspect was cool. However, I wanted to order a latte but after working as a barista in the past, I couldn't get over the caked on milk on the steam wands. And I watched her pull a shot, it was an extremely short shot, then she poured a little water in it and served it. No thanks. If they got help on the Cafe aspect this place would be an easy 5 stars. The food was good (though there was something on the menu I asked for she said they don't even carry anymore). The prices are really good. The bookstore was cool. The Cafe left much to be desired.

I really would like to love Dog Ears, but it is just far too dirty for me to feel comfortable dining there. There are dead flies in the window sill, the floor is dirty, tables are not wiped clean, and there is so much clutter all around (i.e. flyers and signs). I write this review not to be discouraging, but to offer some constructive feedback to the owner. It is a South Buffalo staple and could really shine with a bit of elbow grease.

Lovely cup of coffee. I ordered three children's books. I love that this is an independent non-profit booksshop. They are so kind and knowledgeable.

Suz has made something lovely and inviting here. A great selection of diner hotplate fare and wonderful coffee and tea options. The bookstore curls around with the seating for the cafe, and because it's a house-turned-store, it feels very comfortable and homey. When I came by, it was fairly quiet, and Suz was able to meet my requests for some food adjustments with ease. It's just a pleasant place to hang out. The bookstore is a non-profit run by volunteers who love books, so they can help you find whatever you need. Because buying local is preferable, I suggest seeking books on Amazon, then coming to the local store to have them order it instead.

Always a great experience! Good food, fun atmosphere and you get to support a non-national chain local venue.
