Dogpatch Saloon Review - Dogpatch - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Dogpatch Saloon on the corner of 3rd St and 22nd is a good, chill spot to go when you and your dog are thirsty and want a drink. The dog-friendly bar serves beer and wine at reasonable prices and cocktails for $11 in a large space with tons of windows. If you want to save a few bucks, Happy Hour pints and well drinks are $2 off until 7pm. There is also plenty of elbow room at the bar and tables." - Lani Conway

Google
Awesome bar with a super chill vibe and great drink menu, imported wines, cool house cocktails. This neighborhood is great I met some really nice people 😊

Google
This is the cutest bar! It has a lot of natural light from the windows that wrap around both sides of the building that face the corner. The antique details in the woodwork and fixtures brings a warmth to the place. The liquor bottles are beautifully displayed to catch even more light and create a well stocked bar. They always seem to have new exotic craft beers on tap. It's my co-worker's choice for after work drinks.

Fun old style bar in the middle of Dogpatch. Good drinks nice place to relax

Dog-friendly low-key neighborhood bar with a few TVs and laid back atmosphere

Google
Yes, yes and yes. Good tequila selection. Great menu mixed drinks. Bartenders that have knowledge of mixed drinks and a spacious feel. It is a favorite place to take friends. Patrons seem cool and friendly too. It just feel good and isn't too loud. I def recommend.

Google
Literally the best spot, I brought my pup and we had excellent drinks with excellent service.

Google
Went in here for a few drinks with my boyfriend and will never return. I guess we weren’t ordering fast enough because the bartender kept flashing us the dirtiest looks (little guy with long hair) and it continued until we left. I’m a little upset my bf tipped him so generously because the little scum didn’t deserve it but we definitely stayed until we were nice and ready to leave- pipsqueak be damned.

Google
Such a great place. It's exactly what the name states it is, a typical saloon from the early 1900s. The bartender was great and the place I'd fantastic. It's great for sitting around and drinking. The only thing that I disliked is that the shots for the drinks are measured. Bars make a very healthy profit and for owners to do this is a huge turn off (well for me it is).

Yelp
Whenever we're in the area - especially now with Pier 70 being open, we stop by for a drink. Great vibe and always friendly service - special thanks to one of the bartenders (gentleman with glasses) for being so accommodating with my drink request last Friday. Can't think of a more mellow bar for a Friday afternoon drink!

Yelp
Love this joint. Great locale, great ambiance for a bar (love the seating near the stove...) and cool peeps. Bartenders are cool. You don't like this bar, I'm not sure what your want in a bar. Cheers.

Yelp
Walking in was like stepping into a train cabin. The details and stained window above entry were beautiful. It felt like walking into a speakeasy. The back corner had a cast iron fireplace/stove. It was cozy corner with wooden benches to sit around with a big group. I ordered Cocoa Dog, creamy and sweet. I was able to taste the banana. It was well balanced. Bf got the rotating IPA from ghost town brewing. We will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Cool and cozy little pub in a quaint corner of Dogpatch. No frills. There's a bar, a few booths, and some tables. Fits maybe 50ish people max. Staff was friendly, drinks were solid, I had a good time. Had the Waco Kid. Sweet and spicy cocktail consisting of mezcal, apricot liqueur, habanero & orange bitters, lemon juice and a twist for garnish. Grapefruit Radler is a nice fruity beer if you're looking for something weak (2%) and citrusy. All around chill place. Would come back. 4/5

Yelp
What's up with the bartender's shitty attitude? The little guy with the long hair? Stopped in here to grab a few drinks with some friends and pipsqueak made things kinda unbearable with his constant scowls in our direction. Somehow he made sure to give us a bunch of attention in the corner except when we actually needed his help. Were we not ordering drinks fast enough? Was his problem that someone in our group didn't drink? Don't care; won't return

Yelp
Awesome bar in Dogpatch, we stopped in around 6pm on a Friday and it was packed. The we ordered a gin martini and a gimlet and they were both delicious (and affordable!) I love places like this and I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
We stumbled here while walking in the neighborhood at night. Right away the place felt rustic and saloon-y. There were a lot of people here and the place was full. Many seem like they are locals of the neighborhood. The interior is cozy and there is also a fireplace corner to get cozier. I got the Icelandic vodka drink served in a mug and I felt like I was at a Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina. You have to trade in a valid I.D. to rent the mug. I definitely recommend getting the Icelandic vodka and rent the Star Wars-esque chunky tin mug. I hope this bar continues to serve this drink. Overall, this place felt cozy and service was great.

Yelp
It is a lovely welcoming place.. Bartender Tabitha was wonderful and so helpful in my sampling of local gins. She vibed with both me and my adult children. 10 out of ten, will become a regular.

Yelp
Local bars like the Dogpatch Saloon are part of a vanishing class of drinking establishments: Friendly vibes where regulars and newcomers are all welcome, dog-friendly, low-key and sort of divey but also classy(??), expert bartenders who treat customers feel like familiar friends, and a great selection of liquors and beers on tap. Walking into this place kinda feels like coming home whether it's your first time here or your fiftieth.

Yelp
Sometime you wanna go... This is a perfect neighborhood/knows your name/filled with locals/ where the natives are bar. I had such a great time visiting. This bar has been around since 1921, so it is a neighborhood staple and something I always used as a landmark in this ever changing neighborhood. There are a ton of SF locals who visit, enough TVs if you like the sports and a brilliant bartender behind the bar with tons of knowledge. I came in while waiting for my table next door and almost didn't leave! Next time I think I will order food and bring it over to the bar, it was such a great ambiance and crew. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
Nice quaint bar in the heart of the Dogpatch. Came here for a friends birthday and was immediately struck by the homey, neighborhood vibe. The bar had a nice rustic old town vibe. The drinks were good and everyone there seemed to be locals just grabbing a drink. Highly recommend if you are looking for a bar in the dogpatch!

Yelp
A great place to grab happy hour drinks in a fun and laid back atmosphere. Super dog friendly and the bartender always has milkbone treats for those really good 4-legged customers. A neighborhood treasure.

Yelp
This place is a 5 minute walk from my apartment yet this past Tuesday was the first time I've stepped inside to check it out on the way back from Spark Social. The bar seating was packed for a Tuesday night. Looks to be a neighborhood favorite. My friend and I ended up sitting at one of the lower tables on the perimeter. She got a whiskey snap and I got a vodka mule that came in a neat mug (strangely the menu you asks to leave your id as collateral if you get the drink with the mug). I also front loaded with a shot of vodka that was generously sized to say the least. The cocktails were $11 which for a SF bar is a pretty good deal. The mule tasted standard. Hard to mess up. Her review of the snap: "really good but had too many rocks" Would come back again for a nearby drink and vibes.

Yelp
Today was at this bar not for the first time but a couple of occasions. I have been saved by a number almost all of them good bartenders. Allow me to complain against the lady who was there today 04/19/24 (Friday). She is slow, appears to save her friends only, she is rude, you get your beer after 15minutes, I have been observing her for while, she is terribly bad, like we get free beer. For that reason I have decided to go the DS on Friday afternoon when she is most likely at work.

Yelp
9-22-2019...3p.m...first time here A San Francisco landmark it's been here forever...Being a Frisco native I've taken this place for granted and passed it by countless times...so today after visiting my cake designer I glanced over while parking and noticed the game was on... I walked in, grabbed a seat at the bar and felt right at home...kool vibe, the game was on, and some groovy tunes was playing throughout the place... Dog friendly...hence the name Signature drinks... Kool vibes... I'll be back

Yelp
Great spot---very inviting interior and nice staff. Drinks are well prepared and reasonably priced for the area. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area

Yelp
Thought this place was a nice stop after a day of board games and pizza in dogpatch! Super cozy place - they open the windows in covid which helps with feeling a bit safer - and their gin and tonic is just $7.5 and really solid! I've heard once this is the best gin and tonic in town - hasn't disappointed. It's sweet yet has a kick.
google avatar

Yelp
For my references: Dig the ambiance. Was walking towards an event, but made an impromptu walk-in at this joint (my friend spotted someone through the window and obviously had a shy fan-girl moment). There's only one cider here and it's on tap.

Yelp
What a great bar so happy this place exists. Awesome bartenders really cool menu has a European old world vibe inside. Really enjoyed hanging out last Friday I even like that they have two very nice kept bathrooms that are gender neutral.

Yelp
Drinks after Chase Center, a decent walk, but gets you away from the crowds. Fabulous whiskey selection.

Yelp
My group of three wanted another drink after having brunch nearby. Since Dogpatch Saloon was across the street, we decided to stop by on Saturday, March 4th around 3:45pm. Basically all the tables and bar seats were taken, but we managed to find a free table in the back past the bar. *Dogpatch Sazerac: cognac, absinthe rinse, peychauds bitters, angostura bitters, down, lemon twist ($10) *The Last Frontier: bourbon, solerno blood orange liqueur, amaro averna, orange bitters, up, orange twist ($10) *Whiskey Snap: bourbon, ginger-honey liqueur, lemon juice, barrel-aged bitters, rocks, cherries ($10) I think I got The Last Frontier. (Or the Whiskey Snap, but judging from the description and pictures, I think it was The Last Frontier.) I actually liked my drink the best. It resembled a manhattan. I found both The Whiskey Snap and the Dogpatch Sazerac to be too sweet. Especially the Whiskey Snap with the ginger honey liqueur. All drinks were good for sipping for the hour or so we were there. The bar itself was very chill during the day. And very bright. The windows let in a lot of natural light. I didn't order our round of drinks, but I did go up to the bar to get a glass of water. The bartender was sweet, but it did take a bit of time to get her attention even though it was a slow afternoon. The bar did have a couple of TVs on on both ends of the actual bar area, but we couldn't see them from the table we were sitting at. Convenient for a drink if you're having brunch across the street. It was a good stop for just one drink.

Yelp
Popped in here on a whim looking for a little dive bar action and ended up coming back again later that night! Tabitha (I think was her name) and I bonded over the KC Royals and Jager shots. She was a doll! Great bartender. We were disappointed she was off already when we came back later LOL. Love that they are dog friendly too!

Yelp
I always kick myself when I visit the DOG-patch and forget to bring my dog. Oz the Husky would have loved it here! The bartender agreed as she showed me her dog. In one trip, Dogpatch Saloon became one of my favorite bars in the neighborhood. Actually I haven't found a bar around here that I didn't like. On a random weekday, I came here for an early happy hour with a friend, and I was the only one in the bar. The bartender was friendly and welcoming. She knew I wanted to get some work done, so she pointed me to an electrical outlet at the far end of the bar next to the window. It was a toasty San Francisco day, so the open breeze was welcoming. I ordered a beer and got a good amount of work done (on my hotspot) before my friend arrived. We had a few more drinks and such a good time. There's a wide selection of beers and liquors. We had a fun chat with the bartender about whiskies. Regulars poured in and the saloon filled up quickly. There was a lively and free atmosphere. I can't describe it in words properly. It's just exactly where you want to be for a good time. I felt so happy once I left, both from drinks and company, and definitely because of how awesome Dogpatch Saloon is. Thanks for a great time!

Yelp
Ordered two drinks, they said 20 charged us 33. We protested, they said we added a drink, and it was definitely not true since we only had Two drinks... We paid it to not deal with it, but still. Drinks were fine though.

Yelp
Probably my favorite bar in the dogpatch. The kind of place you can go and see familiar faces (both canine and human) and really feel like you're in a neighborhood. They have great beer on tap. Cocktails OK, compared to some of the other options in the neighborhood, but still just a great time. I love bringing my dog and hanging out on the booths with the window open, which is great just about any night of the week.

Yelp
This place was okay for a drink in an area that is well on it's way to being overly gentrified. We came in for a drink on a weekend after giving up on finding a place to eat ( every spot in the area was crowded with " campers ", people who come in for one drink or an app and never leave ). The bar was fairly full, with most tables and seating being taken by folks. We found spots at the bar, but felt that the place had a very heavy hipster feel to it, so we weren't planning to stay much longer than a drink or two. The reason this review is two stars is because of a single incident that happened while we were there. A group came in that included a young black woman and her small white dog. Immediately upon getting inside, the bartender who was ignoring our request for the check ( and instead spending his time flirting with a girl at the bar right next to us after her friend left to use the restroom ) turned to the young woman and asked her to leave the bar. When you are dealing with the area of the Dogpatch, I think that sensitivity is extremely important. It's an up and coming neighborhood that is attracting a lot of young and hip folks, but just on the other side of Evans is the Bayview which has a relatively bad rep. It was a little off-putting to see a bartender, in a bar that was predominately filled with white folks, go out of his way to ask a black woman to leave as soon as she walked in when we had been trying to get his attention to pay our bill for last couple of minutes. After the young woman left the bar, he and the other male bartenders continued to discuss the situation with patrons in the bar. They spoke about how she had come in with a pittbull last year and caused a ruckus, going into a lot of details, but somehow still asking each other " that was her right? The girl with the pitt? ". Again, she was with a small white dog. Now, I really don't believe this was about race. However, as someone who has worked in hospitality, it really looked bad. Even if it was someone who was banned from the bar, it was extremely unprofessional to continue to discuss the matter with patrons who were not present and have no business hearing about it. It also made the bartenders look extremely uninformed as they continued to question whether it was the same girl. So, do you not know if that girl was the same one? Did you just kick out and humiliate someone that could have been innocent? It didn't seem like you cared much. You have the right to refuse service to whomever you want, but you need to be professional about it. You need to do better and be better, and I will not be coming back again. I will also not be recommending this location to anyone.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. If they had better TVs I'd have given them five stars. Oh, and my dog loves the place.

Scott B.

Yelp
Coolest bar in SF hands down. Used to have good jazz on Sundays. Great neighborhood vibe.
google avatar

Brett P.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. Great service and excellent whiskey drinks. Both the old fashioned and manhattan rock.
google avatar

Aj C.

Yelp
The bar was all right. I have to say that it was super dim for me and my eyes were not having it. My boyfriend and I ordered a Moscow Mule and it was an all right drink. I love it when bars serve it copper cups! Seating was a bit difficult too so you may have to stand up for a bit to find a seat.
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
My dog and I love this bar. Great staff, great drinks, great regulars! This bar has been more or less my living room for the past 6 years. Hands down my favorite place to drink. One of the best things is that they let you bring in food from the surrounding neighborhood restaurants! Oh and the dogs of course!

Swapnil T.

Yelp
Classic dive bar with some old school decor. Hard to hear if you sit far from each other but otherwise it has great drinks and a lively atmosphere

Zoe H.

Yelp
You could not pay me to go this bar again. I had not had a single thing to drink - and was helping me friend who had too much to drink in the restroom. I came out to get her water and back again to look after her. When I got her safely in an Uber, I went to the bar and grabbed a drink. The bartender yelled loudly for everybody to hear that "I think you've had way too f*ing much to drink". I hadn't had a sip of anything other than water and it was humiliating in front of an entire crowd of people. People need to learn to respect one another and talk to each other as humans.
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
Decent bar with quite a few beers on tap, but there is nothing too interesting. The tables are grimy, the acoustics not great (you have to yell to your companies) and since there isn't a comparable place in the neighbourhood, it's really crowded right after work on Fridays. It is reasonably priced though.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
Well I'm not a fan of dogs in general, or in food & drink establishments in particular. So I'll leave that part aside. I get that's their thing. Other than the dogs, the place has a warm pub vibe with an interesting variety of patrons. My Manhattan was perfect, and the corner booth was a perfect spot to share a snuggle with my sweetie. I'd come back.
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
True to its name, very dog friendly. One of the few places in the city you can go without having to deal with babies or young children. Lots of great drinks. Happy hour rates are really affordable. The ambiance shows the history and longevity of this place. Food can be ordered from a neighboring restaurant. They have half-beers (or mini beers) for those wanting a bit more but not the full glass.
google avatar

Henry L.

Yelp
Not bad for a bar that opens late! The decor instead is quite interesting--it feels like an old west bar, which is consistent with the name of the place. The wait staff is somewhat friendly--a little slow to serve but in general pretty friendly. For a Tuesday night, and in a relatively less crowded district, this place actually had some customers even late into the night, which is a good sign! In general, a pretty good neighborhood bar.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Recently moved into the area and was looking for a bar to call home. I've definitely found it at Dogpatch Saloon. The weekdays before 7pm is happy hour and there's no place in SF you'll find a $4 pints of beer, especially with the same selection as this place. The place gets crowded but rightfully so. Sit back find a space or seat and watch the games or chat with friends while grabbing a few drinks. The mixed drinks are also great. Good pours and great service. You'll definitely find a lot of locals and great people to talk to too if you're solo.

Thao N.

Yelp
No star if I could. Honestly the worst experience with the bartender on a Saturday afternoon. Racist lady bartender and gave us nothing but the terrible time.
google avatar

Johnny W.

Yelp
Wow, I can't believe it took me this long to finally come here, considering I live some five blocks away. Under renovation when I first moved in to the neighborhood, these folks finally re-opened earlier this year, with a new look that's still very befitting the saloon namesake - there's even a piano towards the back! But, contrary to what I expected, they serve up a pretty solid menu of fancy cocktails, with... well, a lot of liquors I hadn't even heard of before. I ended up trying their Grey Whale, which was okay, and their Whiskey Snap, which was fantastic. So, hey. Fancy $10 cocktails (the price is right), dog-friendly, and within walking distance of my home, so I can stumble back in a drunken haze? AWESOME. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - I've never seen this place super packed, so, given that, the venue is spacious enough that it shouldn't be too hard to get around. Most of their seating is either counter seating, or couch seating, so those of us in wheelchairs can just slide in to the sides that don't have any seating at all. The bar itself, of course, is the usual counter height, so you'll face the usual difficulties there. Bathroom - Didn't check them out.
google avatar

Nyla K.

Yelp
As the name says... Saloon and it's pretty much what you expect. The best seat in the house would be by the bad near the window or somewhere near a fan cause that place gets toasty! I can see how this is a favorite neighborhood bar with the neighborhood feel and very "local" scene. This place is down the road so I could definitely see myself walking down and getting a beer.
google avatar

Michal S.

Yelp
Best bar in Dogpatch, one of the best in whole San Francisco. Relaxed atmosphere, easy to meet new people. Great selection of beers and whiskeys. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Five stars for making great drinks, offering good ambiance (i.e. old-school clean dive bar), and charging $5 for a pint of beer. If you're looking for a trendy new spot, a sports bar, a biker bar, a velvet rope, or a total dive this is not your place. If you're looking for a casual bar that has plenty of room to sit and talk with friends, casual ambiance, a bit of culture, and great drinks - this is absolutely you're place. I honestly don't know the price of mixed drinks here but for about $8-9 you can get yourself a solid old fashioned - honestly one of the best I've had. There are generally a great mix of people, from dock workers getting off-shift, to hipsters, to young professionals, to middle aged couples having a post-dinner drink after Serpentine or Piccino - it's a very eclectic mix. I'm happy to call this my neighborhood bar!
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Pretty chill bar - not too divey or pretentious. Would come back here to grab a drink, though the ambiance is not super quiet if you're looking for a place to carry a conversation. Dressed up or dressed down, you'll fit in (thanks to the dimmer lighting). There was a good sized crowd - not overly packed for a Saturday night. Drinks are decent and pricing is about average (~$9 to $10 each).
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
This is definitely one of my favorite bars in San Francisco! The overall aesthetic is pleasing as the bar itself resides in a neighborhood reminiscent of San Diego's North Park area. As a very OUT trans-woman, I was reluctant to even venture inside after hearing people say what type of yuppified San Francisco "elite" matriculate the establishment. But, clearly all that talk was nonsense as when I walked in there were no neggy-vibes from either the patrons or staff. As far as drinks go, I was super pleased with my Sauvignon Blanc and its pour.. .. the music was lively and even while there was a Giants game playing--the overall scene wasn't rowdy and annoying and testorone driven. Dogpatch Saloon is the cat's meow..
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
Nice local spot with a laid back, divey/pub feel. It can get pretty busy, but it's not usually difficult to find seating as it's a pretty big space. It's a pretty diverse crowd too (as most divey type bars tend to be) which makes it feel laid back and welcoming. They had a few TVs with sports on but it didn't dominate the vibe, which I appreciated. It's a little noisy, but not over the top. The cocktails were fantastic! I especially enjoyed the Waco Kid, which was a spicy tequila-based drink. It was strong with well-balanced flavors, and the price was definitely right for SF at $10! Draft beer selection was on the smaller side, but had good variety and interesting local options. Would definitely come back to hang out and try more of the cocktails!

Yelp
4 stars for the relaxed vibe and a great Saturday afternoon for day drinking with good friends 2 star for unnecessary rudeness by the female bartender (wish I had gotten her name) which I didn't realize until later My two friends and I walked in after brunch around 2:30 pm to grab a few drinks and ran into old friends who live in the neighborhood. My iPhone battery was dead so I asked the said bartender if she had a charger and she willingly obliged. We bought a bottle of wine and settled at a table. I had to message another friend who was supposed to meet us so I asked the bartender if I could use my phone and once I was done asked if she could charge it again. All through this I didn't sense any animosity from her and we even made small talk about her squeezing fresh citrus for cocktails etc., Two hours and several drinks later when we were getting ready to leave I walked over to get my phone and she had an audience around her...and when I asked her for my phone back..she made an offhanded comment about "and now the peanut gallery is here" There was a guy in the group who caught my reaction and smiled quizzically wondering why she had said that. It all happened so fast and I had an Uber waiting outside so I didn't process or react. But her comment really bothered me and I wish I had reacted openly or asked her what prompted that comment. I kept wondering what I had done or said to have her say that. I hope my race or gender didn't prompt this as I am south Asian and female. It would be a shame to lose a neighborhood watering hole in sf for underhanded racism and rudeness

Yelp
Friendly staff. Great customers. Excellent drinks. Cool building. Will definitely visit again.

Yelp
The service is pretty slow , I don't regularly wait 20min to have my ID seen and let sit again. All in all rustic and dog friendly. But at a mild hour very slow
