The service and gelato here are both equally disappointing. Apparently, sampling a few flavors means you are a tourist.... surprise, I was a tourist.
I traveled down to Austin from Dallas for the weekend with 3 of my cousins and we decided to give Dolce Neve a try. I asked to sample flavors and I couldn't seem to find a flavor I liked and the texture wasn't my favorite. I kept sampling flavor after flavor hoping to find one I liked but come to find I disliked all of them. In the end, I sampled a total of 5 flavors (Vanilla, Crema Dolce Neve, Whiskey and Pecan, Watermelon, Cherry) and decided to give up after that.
By the third sample, the guy working there started grunting and rolling his eyes because I asked to sample and said "yall must be tourists huh?" Yes, we were tourists and so what? Yes, to some, I may have sampled a bit too much, but I was trying to find a flavor I liked. In the end, 2 out of the 4 of us decided to buy from Dolce Neve and I wasn't one of them. The guy working there proceeded to make a big deal out of it and said something along the lines of me sampling pretty much the amount of a small size cup and was like "that's one way to do it..." Again, I only sampled 5 flavors and thought none were good, why would I buy a cup of gelato just for it to go to waste? If no one else in my group had bought anything, I would've definitely bought something just out of common courtesy, but because others in my group had bought something I didn't feel obligated to buy and was thus subjected to this kind of service.
To say the least, the whole experience was unpleasant. The flavors were not the best and the textures were not the smoothest.
