D.C.’s Best Ice Cream Shops | Eater DC

"Around for 20 years, gelato chain Dolcezza is one of the first shops in the area to specialize in unique flavors and artisanal ingredients. Options range from the traditional straciatella to black sesame to Swiss tarragon. Order ahead to pick up pints at Fairfax, City Center DC, Dupont, Bethesda, and Hirshhorn locations, and its newest sits on H Street NE. Local delivery via third-party apps is also available." - Tierney Plumb

Really good Gelato. I got flavors i already like, and I can't complain. First time ever having Maple walnut flavored Gelato so I was happy to say it was really good. My other flavor was basic peanut butter ship, although I think i was given the wrong one cause it was like a chocolate chip and didn't taste peanut? Still was great. The only disappointment I had was not being able to see all the Gelato since it was in stainless steel bowls with a lid. Not the best presentation since they have a lot of flavors. That you can try. They also do coffee and tea, with some pastries items. Not sure if they are made in house or local shop. If not in house they definitely should network with a local shop since it doesn't seem like they have a huge spot for them. Seating was questionable, honestly. I saw window stool seating for like 6? And a table around the corner. This place is attached to something more, just not sure what. It didn't seem to inviting to look around for some reason. But not to say you can't? I just didn't. Aside from all that, the price was slightly high per scoop, but that's DC. They sell pints, but for $13.. no thank you. Doesn't seem like they have a big selling point or local tradition people fall in love with. Like specials, events or something to bring back the same people and grow memories. Kinda just a place to spot in for city convenience.

Just stopped by the grand opening of Dolcezza on H St., where there was a line already out the door for a free scoop to celebrate the opening. I tried the honey avocado orange flavor, while it was pretty tasty, I decided to go with my favorite, their tried and true mango sorbet🥭 This has been my second time in a line at Dolcezza in the last week, so take it as a sign that it’s that good! The City Center location is also very popular. Dolcezza’s new store on H St., NE is nice with seating inside and a small counter along the window for good people watching along H St. The menu seemed the be the standard Dolcezza menu of ice cream and sorbet with unique flavors like Black Sesame, honey-crisp apple, Thai coconut milk and Mascarpone and berries. I was SO HOPING to try their seasonal, passion fruit mousse soft serve, but sadly, it wasn’t on the menu.😩 The staff was friendly and welcoming. Street parking can be tricky given the location, but luckily there’s a public parking garage across the street. Look forward to visiting again to check out new seasonal flavors. I’ve been a fan of Dolcezza for YEARS! In fact I went to the first tour of their factory by Union Market when it opened back in the day, many years ago and got to try their sorbet right off the “line”. I can say that was a memorable experience meeting the owners and hearing their story about how Dolcezza started. If you’re in the H Street corridor and in the mood for a sweet treat and/or coffee, Dolcezza will hit the spot!

went here for dessert with friends. strawberry was the best i’ve ever had. will be anthologizing this as one of d.c’s best sweet little treat spots for when my google map contributions amount to a substantial literary work.

Highly recommend this shop. Good ice cream and ambiance, and SPECTACULAR employees. Really, the service will make you feel so special. Special kudos to Sonu (spelling?) for her patience and thoughtfulness with her kid customers. Standout experience.

Me and my girlfriend went here on a whim I chose their pinapple honey lime sorbet and my girlfriend got dolce de lece, the everything we tried was amazing with a very friendly staff. I didnt know that pinapple honey lime sorbet was my favorite untill that night, we enjoyed the gelato/sorbet so much that we went in for seconds, great flavors my gf also tried the black and white cookie which I had a taste and was fantastic. Will be stopping by again next time im in the city.

Grand opening, so my partner and I thought we’d check it out since we our favorite flavor is “Black Sesame” and we haven’t had it in couple of years. So we walked a mile to this new location just to find out they were out of the flavor and the teams said they weren’t sure when it would be returning that they were trying to burn through their other flavors. Make sure to call before going for a visit to make sure your favorite flavor is available, if they decide to get a phone line. Unfortunately, I’ll stick with my usual spot near The Dupont area for my quick fix.

I really like the gelato from Dolcezza, so when I saw they were doing soft serve at this location I had to visit. The soft serve was good, but the price was outrageous. It was $12 for this tiny cup. Don't get me wrong, it was good but nowhere near $12.

Friendly staff and delicious cold treats (as is pretty much standard for Dolcezza—special shout out to the avocado honey orange sorbet)! We loved the welcome event. Excited to visit often!
