D.C.’s Best Ice Cream Shops | Eater DC

"Around for 20 years, gelato chain Dolcezza is one of the first shops in the area to specialize in unique flavors and artisanal ingredients. Options range from the traditional straciatella to black sesame to Swiss tarragon. Order ahead to pick up pints at Fairfax, City Center DC, Dupont, Bethesda, and Hirshhorn locations, and its newest sits on H Street NE. Local delivery via third-party apps is also available." - Tierney Plumb

Barrel House Hosts Array of Pop-Ups Before Full September Opening | Eater DC

"Opening mid-March at the foot of the Apollo apartments (600 H Street NE), this will be the sixth area gelato and coffee shop from the local brand, offering the usual 20-flavor gelato menu, pastries from Pluma Bakery, and coffee from Unido, plus a new soft-serve option with two rotating flavors. The opening will feature creamy new flavors of pistachio, made locally with stone-milled pistachio butter, and dulce de leche as a nod to co-founder Violeta Edelman’s Argentine background; additional soft-serve flavors coming soon include lemon meringue, sambayon (an Italian custard popularized in Argentina), and single-origin chocolate. The owners also announced that another location will be opening by the end of 2025." - Emily Venezky

I’ve been a fan of Dolcezza for the longest time since I arrived to DC in 2018, but this location in particular won my heart completely. Apart from the shop’s very cool design, its manager John took amazing care of me as I took pictures for an article related to the story behind the business. His attention to detail, his care for the craft and his attentiveness really made my visit outstanding. Thanks to him and all of the staff for a really pleasant visit

What an awesome spot! John the GM is incredible at latte art and the entire staff was amazing! Raven and Amira were so helpful with explaining the best combos of the new fall flavors (hint: it’s the pumpkin spiced gelato & Swiss chocolate OR the dolce de leche & apple crisp sorbet)!!! They also let me try them all, thank you Raven & Amira! & John for the amazing PSL & beautiful latte art!

Really good Gelato. I got flavors i already like, and I can't complain. First time ever having Maple walnut flavored Gelato so I was happy to say it was really good. My other flavor was basic peanut butter ship, although I think i was given the wrong one cause it was like a chocolate chip and didn't taste peanut? Still was great. The only disappointment I had was not being able to see all the Gelato since it was in stainless steel bowls with a lid. Not the best presentation since they have a lot of flavors. That you can try. They also do coffee and tea, with some pastries items. Not sure if they are made in house or local shop. If not in house they definitely should network with a local shop since it doesn't seem like they have a huge spot for them. Seating was questionable, honestly. I saw window stool seating for like 6? And a table around the corner. This place is attached to something more, just not sure what. It didn't seem to inviting to look around for some reason. But not to say you can't? I just didn't. Aside from all that, the price was slightly high per scoop, but that's DC. They sell pints, but for $13.. no thank you. Doesn't seem like they have a big selling point or local tradition people fall in love with. Like specials, events or something to bring back the same people and grow memories. Kinda just a place to spot in for city convenience.

It’s located in the first floor of an apartment building, and customers can use the seating area in the first and second floor with the apartment building. It’s really beautifully decorated, creating a very nice vibe! I would love to come back.

Wow what a flavorful experience in the ice cream world. With a city under attack, h st street team welcomed us with gracious posterity. Their willingness to advise and reflect offered us a world-class trip through taste. Thanks Raven, Jon , and Alkie. They weren’t just ice cream purveyors, they are community service agents of hope.

This was my first visit to Dolcezza. I stopped in right before closing and was afraid the staff would be annoyed (because let's be honest, if I were them, I probably would be) but they were not at all. They were so kind and welcoming. They closed at 10 and it was about 9:40 when I dropped by. They let me try the flavors I wanted and I ended up getting a scoop of pistachio and dark chocolate brownie crumble (I think) and it was delicious. 10/10 highly recommend. I ended up hanging out for a few minutes enjoying my gelato and reading a book before they closed and it was a great experience. Can't wait to return!

So happy this location opened! On top of their always superb, interesting and original flavors that I've loved for more than a decade now, the staff at this location is truly the best. They're so enthusiastic about the flavors, combinations, helping you try out different samples etc. Truly a gem of a location. And now they have seating out front too

Just stopped by the grand opening of Dolcezza on H St., where there was a line already out the door for a free scoop to celebrate the opening. I tried the honey avocado orange flavor, while it was pretty tasty, I decided to go with my favorite, their tried and true mango sorbet🥭 This has been my second time in a line at Dolcezza in the last week, so take it as a sign that it’s that good! The City Center location is also very popular. Dolcezza’s new store on H St., NE is nice with seating inside and a small counter along the window for good people watching along H St. The menu seemed the be the standard Dolcezza menu of ice cream and sorbet with unique flavors like Black Sesame, honey-crisp apple, Thai coconut milk and Mascarpone and berries. I was SO HOPING to try their seasonal, passion fruit mousse soft serve, but sadly, it wasn’t on the menu.😩 The staff was friendly and welcoming. Street parking can be tricky given the location, but luckily there’s a public parking garage across the street. Look forward to visiting again to check out new seasonal flavors. I’ve been a fan of Dolcezza for YEARS! In fact I went to the first tour of their factory by Union Market when it opened back in the day, many years ago and got to try their sorbet right off the “line”. I can say that was a memorable experience meeting the owners and hearing their story about how Dolcezza started. If you’re in the H Street corridor and in the mood for a sweet treat and/or coffee, Dolcezza will hit the spot!
