Dolly's - Review - Bedford-Stuyvesant - New York - The Infatuation

"Dolly’s will expand your definition of the breakfast sandwich. They've got your classic egg variety on some kind of circular bun with cheese and meat, but they also make a rich, delicious cheesesteak egg sandwich on hero-shaped sesame milk bread with shredded beef, griddled onions, soft scrambled eggs, homemade cheez wiz, and provolone. And because this is a freakishly genius invention, it also comes with A1 aioli and a McDonald’s-esque hash brown on the side. photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte Pause Unmute The Bed-Stuy bakery, which used to be Bread & Butter but has since reopened with a slightly different menu, made a name for itself on social media with its purple sprinkle-covered ube morning bun. We’re happy to report that they've kept that around as an addition to massive chocolate chip cookies and honey buns that require at least three napkins. Come as often as possible, and always plan for a breakfast sandwich and at least one breakfast dessert. Dolly's opens at 10am, and a small group of bun enthusiasts usually starts forming around 9:45am. Food Rundown Cheesesteak & Egg Sandwich Why don’t more places do something like this? It works so, so well. photo credit: Kate Previte Ube Morning Bun The famous, purple-sprinkled morning bun has a flaky exterior and a moist, earthy center. After eating this, you'll surely be covered in purple sprinkles for the rest of the day. And you won’t regret it for a second. photo credit: Kate Previte XL Choco Chip Cookie If you get here around 10am, you can snag one of these cookies when they're still warm, and the pools of chocolate on top look deep enough to swim in. But whatever time you come, get one. photo credit: Kate Previte Sticky Toffee Banana Bread A big hunk of banana bread with a sticky toffee glaze and chunks of toffee on top. Great, but not as essential as the morning bun. photo credit: Kate Previte Soft Serve Dolly's soft serve is only available from 3-5:30pm or 6pm. The flavors rotate weekly (keep an eye on their Instagram), but we're not sure what could ever live up to the blueberry pancake soft serve we had on a recent visit. The combination of buttermilk soft serve, blueberry compote, corn flakes, syrup, and lemon zest (complete with a mini pancake topper) tastes exactly like the real thing, just better. photo credit: Willa Moore" - Willa Moore

How NYC’s Bakery Lines Became as Fierce as Streetwear Drops | Eater NY

"I followed Back Alley Bread from its Instagram start in 2020 to its first storefront, which just signed on at 53 Rockaway Avenue between Sumpter and Marion streets in Bed-Stuy; co-owner Autumn Moultrie describes it as a microbakery that stayed nimble by avoiding a single niche—selling angel donuts, Frito pie, and Jamaican patties under the same roof—and she says rising ingredient costs (butter went up as much as 40%) and limited storage made finding and financing a brick-and-mortar especially difficult because they couldn't buy in bulk." - Emma Orlow

I almost don’t want to post this but love supporting small businesses. The breakfast sandwiches are incredible. We got both the everything and BEC. The raw honey cinnamon bun with cream cheese frosting was so airy and not too sweet. It was so good that we had to get back in line to bring two more home. Dolly knows what she’s doing!

Ended up trying the cookies and creme brownie, sticky toffee banana bread and their chocolate chip cookies. I really liked how you could smell the items, especially their banana bread. When I went, everyone was in there for coffee. The place is quite small, so it does have that cozy vibe, however because of how packed it is, (which I would say is a good thing), it is a bit hard to move around in there. Overall, a pretty decent place, and I would recommend people try the treats they have in there.

Ordered two of the breakfast sandwiches, rice crispy and sticky toffee banana bread. Really liked the breakfast sando. The BEC fell a little short for me. I loved their coffee. The workers were so friendly and charming. Loved the music and the vibe of the place. Will love to revisit.

Google
Fantastic breakfast sandwiches. Tried out the everything with lox and bacon egg cheese. Some of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had, especially on the foccacia which leveled it up. Tried the honey bun as well. So good. Not too sweet no to heavy. Light and delicious but decadent as well. I unfortunately did not get to try the banana bread but I’m sure it’s also great. Got the chocolate chip cookie and the chai latte. These are whatever, you can skip. Their prices are unfortunately incredibly high. Spent about 50 dollars in total. Also the shop is tiny and a line did build while I waited and all seats were taken so I was constantly being bumped. I waited about 30 min for my food so definitely not a pop in before work spot but quite good if you have the time.

Amazing coffee shop. Warm food and great service. The drinks were refreshing and the pastries were reasonably priced. Went around Easter time and must say they had seasonal eats as well. Must try anytime in New York

I don’t care where in New York City I ever live. I will always come back for Dolly’s. 10 out of 10 every single time. Autumn puts love into everything she puts out.

I love this place... i will continue coming back all the way from LI. They make the best pastries and ice-cream...everything else is good too but those are my go to. I love all of them

Yelp
Hands down Dolly's Coffee Shop, formerly known as Bread & Butter, is one of the most inventive and tastiest stores offering an array of baked goods, signature coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere. I've been lovestruck ever since they opened their doors and I am happy to say that this team truly values quality over quantity. I love just about everything and if you're looking for suggestions to get you started, I'd recommend the XL chocolate chip cookie, the angel donuts (served warm), the morning ube bun, and the sticky toffee cake. Warm service, tasty treats, and delicious coffee; choosing Dolly's is always a good decision.

Yelp
God tier focaccia. Must get the French onion focaccia. It's buttery, fluffy, slightly crunchy, and sweet from the caramelized onions. The jalapeño cheddar was perfectly spicy and cheesy. The croissant grilled cheese was insane. The croissant was almost like a biscuit meets croissant in terms of texture. The tomato soup was sweeter than I had expected but I loved it. They for sure improved their cookie from the last time and made it ENORMOUS which I loved. It would be even better if it was CHUNKIER instead of so thin but it still had a wonderful chew to it and was gooey from the chocolate. Both the soft serves they offer are amazing. The Brooklyn blackout was packed with Oreo and brownie pieces and the ice cream itself had a slightly coffee/bitter cocoa edge to it which I loved. The banofee cheesecake ice cream was most comparable to banana pudding. Would've loved if the caramel and cheesecake base was spread more evenly throughout but otherwise was great. Will be back for their breakfast items

Yelp
I've come by a few times over the last few months to shuttered gates. Thinking they had sold out and closed for the day. Looking for my favorite bakery and this morning, I was surprised with a new name and rebrand. I'm incredibly grateful that it's the same owners with the same inventive delicious offerings. It seems they don't bake bread like they used to, hence the name change/rebrand. I can still get my ube lattes and buns, as well as all the other delicious confections, I hope the vegan peppers and sausage focaccia makes a return. Thanks guys for staying around. You are loved.

Yelp
I am absolutely in love with the banana bread in this cozy coffee shop. It is by far one of the best I have had. The service is very attentive and any questions are welcome. I recently tried the steak breakfast sandwich and it was pretty good. I did not love the cheese used on the sandwich, it was a bit wet. Other than that, the flavor was great. I will be back!

Yelp
This spot has a lot of potential. The food is yummy, but the service is crazy slow and the space is cramped.

Yelp
Tried this spot for the first time today and it was absolutely delicious! I had the grilled cheese croissant with tomato soup and my husband had the butter pecan bar, both were absolute slam dunks and the coffee was good. I am taking a star off because the interior is not serving this business well. Overall this space looks huge but with a very small area closed off for the front of the store. The tables were extremely small and it was uncomfortable to enjoy our food. Everything was served in a box and put in a large to-go bag, it would be nice to simply have things served on a plate. I returned my paper bag after I saw someone else do the same, I see a lot of unnecessary waste. It seems a lot of people were waiting around for food, they need to speed things up somehow. The displays for the pastries are very tall with wood doors on the back which make the space feel very claustrophobic, replacing with glass would open the space up nicely. Unless there is a high volume baking side business, then the kitchen does not need to take up so much space and hopefully they can re-allocate space to the storefront for more seating. And they should consider an open kitchen. There is so much potential here, I would like to see them succeed very much. Since they are new maybe they are still working out some of the kinks. Regardless I will definitely be back, I might just have to get it to go which makes it hard to become a regular go-to spot.
