NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"It’s been a big year for Mexican food in New York (see: Santo Taco, Cariñito Tacos, Olmo, Comal). Next up is Dolores, a Mexico City-inspired restaurant in Bed-Stuy from the team behind nearby Winona’s. The cocktail menu has classic margaritas, but also the Devil At The Disco, with both vodka and rum. The food menu is made up of botanas (like aguachile verde), tacos, and large plates that rotate daily—think Thursday fajitas and Sunday enchiladas." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

The Brooklyn Hit List: The Best New Restaurants In Brooklyn - New York - The Infatuation

"At Dolores in Bed-Stuy, there's strawberries in your michelada, and the refried beans are so cheesy they could easily pass as queso. It's a fun, funky place that nails the whole we're-a-restaurant-but-also-a-bar thing. You could easily come to this Mexico City-inspired restaurant for just a drink and a snack at the bar. But the food here—like those refried beans, or the El Rey taco with short rib asada and guacamole swaddled in a flour tortilla—is best enjoyed in a dark green booth in the dining room. Come for a full meal on your first visit, try whatever daily special is available, and then return late-night to play some Mexican bar games and work your way through the rest of the cocktail menu." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, sonal shah

Google
My experience beginning to end. After 6pm there’s a wait but worth it. Grab a drink at the bar or enjoy one at one of the tables outside. The staff there are pleasant are really looking to get you seated. We loved the spicy tequila cocktail, short rib tacos, and pork tacos. The chips and guacamole were amazing. Chips came out warm and fresh.

Another new amazing place for the neighborhood! Dolores is a small restaurant so expect there to be a wait but it’s worth it! We waited and 1.5 hours and just went to a bar down the street. The Aguachile is a must get along with the beans.

I cried a few tears of joy - 100% authentic in flavor with fresh, quality ingredients that take you right to Mexico City. There’s a lot of love in this food. And we really appreciate that they don’t shy away from spice (la salsa si pica felizmente). The space is warm, welcoming, casual and elegant. Recommend the gordita de chicharrón, the Salida del Sol cocktail and a side of rice and beans, which are refrito style con queso and absolutely delicious.

An absolute gem...10s all round. The interiors are tasteful, spirited, and thoughtful. I love that it doesn’t feel overly “new”. It has warmth and character. Details I really appreciated: a clock over the bar (v grounding, no need to reach for your phone), a surprisingly delicate and beautiful restroom, and the food? Incredible. Possibly my favorite flour tortilla in NYC...super moreish—and every dish I tried was packed with flavor. Cocktails hit the mark, too. Highlight: they’ve got games, but not in the lo fi dive-bar way. Custom dominoes and dice, with drink holders built into the tables so you can play w/ abandon. Service was warm, casual, and on point. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood IMO.

Be warned, the wait can be 1-3 hours and they don't take reservations. The service was painfully slow. A few drinks and 2 appetizers took over 1.5 hours. The chips they provide with the guacamole is a laughably small amount, and they charge another $4 for a small bowl of chips on the side. The cheesy refried beans are flavorless. I only finished them because I paid $10 for a small bowl of them and I despise food waste. The drinks, however, are phenomenal and totally worth it. Wish there were more bar seats because that's all I really think this place is worth coming for.

Oh my! So tasty! I particularly loved the gordita - NOT a dish you see in NY that often. The chicken consome is also a perfect way to start to meal. It is pricier than an average taco joint but the portions are generous and you are paying for great service in a great space so it all makes sense! It does get very busy so go early to avoid disappointment. The decor is also sooo well done. Love the art. Just good vibes! And the drinks. Fabulous. I could go on and on. Just go.

DOLORES delivers on a great time, fantastic drinks and wonderful staff. The vibes are just right the Margarita is basically as perfect as one can get. Great addition to the neighborhood and worth traveling for!

Yelp
A great addition to the neighborhood! Drawing inspiration from Mexico City, the food here was phenomenal. Tables available inside or outside, but I wanted a bar seat. Service was prompt and polite with eccentricity! Had the lengua tacos and the croquetas. They didn't have desserts available but were told they're coming soon. I'll be back!

Yelp
DOLORES offers some great Mexican fare with an extensive cocktail list - they also have 'dishes/plates of the day, so be sure to check them out! We came here as a group and started off with: +the Mata Dolores Frozen - prepared with Probitas White Blended Rum, pineapple, orange, coconut, cacao, ancho chili liqueur, and nutmeg +the Arroz con Leche - prepared with Uruapan Charanda rum, Lustau Rose Vermut, Aappelletti, prickly pear distillate, guava, and rice wash +and, the Salida del Sol - with Tequila Blanco, orange, passionfruit, aperol, and Valentina For bites, we tried: +the Papadilla - fried corn tortilla stuffed with mashed potatoes +Sopes con Picadillo - blue masa, refried beans, and stewed ground beef +the El Rey - Caramelo flour tortillas filled with short-rib asada, guacamole, and salsa de arbol ahumada +the Lengua 'El Bosque' - braised beef tongue, onions, and cilantro (in which we opted out of) +the Chile Relleno - battered and stuffed with cheese, cuaresmeno peppers, chipotle sauce, and beans They will have 'Late Night Tacos de Canasta' on Friday and Saturday nights, so be on the lookout! The restaurant itself is cute and cozy, and great for little get-togethers and date nights; service was friendly and the whole ambiance was all about good vibes. Look for the lit up yellow sign with a bright green background - you won't miss it! +shareable apps and plates +extensive cocktail list +friendly service & staff

Yelp
I'm glad to see this place open in my neighborhood. They're CDMX cuisine inspired. We had Short rib tacos, chips and Guacamole, spicy margarita. Those were all great. Be prepared from some heat from the tacos. Since it was a late dinner I'll need to go back and try more of the menu. Great crowd. Pleasant staff.

Yelp
Cute place, good food. But why so many poorly behaved kids late at night on a Friday? In the entire time I was there (2 hours) there were 8 infants/toddlers on a Friday night last 10pm. Which is fine, but two families were playing Bluey/similar shows OUT loud at full volume for over thirty minutes while their kids freaked the fuck out and had a tantrums (mind you, at 10:30/11pm). If you want young people to wait 3+ hours for a table to be met with chuckee cheese decorum, probably not the best recipe for success.

Yelp
This was our second time at Dolores and we forgot to take pictures again, because we were so hungry! But the food is really worth the wait to get in- everything we tried was incredibly paired with the best salsas I've had in NYC. The drinks were outstanding too, if you get a chance to have a cocktail while you wait for a table DO IT. The Batanga is 10/10. It can get a little crowded, but honestly everyone there was really nice and attentive. We've had the bar and table experience now, and the bartenders and servers both were impressively fast and kind. Very happy to have a new spot in the neighborhood

Yelp
Everything I had here was fantastic, from the papadilla to the perfectly seasoned guacamole to the El Rey taco. Cocktails are great, and the bartender was super accommodating and just overall good vibes. The only downside is that it doesn't take reservations; as someone who lives in the neighborhood, it's a bummer to have an amazing new neighborhood spot that is nearly impossible to get a table at. It's worth the hype, just wish it was somewhere I could meet my friends at for dinner without having to wait hours for a table!
