The Most Intriguing and Romantic Hotels in Europe

"Located in Burgundy, France, this estate offers the 'Chambre Nature' with a retractable wall opening to nature views, encouraging guests to disconnect completely." - The MICHELIN Guide

Domaine de Rymska

"Set in the countryside between Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saône, this charming restaurant and hotel sits in the middle of a vast estate with lakes, a stud farm, and a farm that supplies some high-quality produce, including Charolais and Wagyu beef, eggs, poultry, fruit and vegetables. The chef's cuisine also draws on the finest ingredients, and sometimes finds inspiration further afield: sea bream ceviche with lime and coconut milk; scallops, mushroom gyoza and Noilly Prat sauce; mandarin, orange and Timut pepper. The beautiful space boasts exposed stone walls, a beamed ceiling and a fire crackling in the imposing hearth. Extraordinary wine list." - Michelin Inspector

This was our group of 4 couples’ stop in France. The Domaine is in an amazing beautiful setting, it absolutely beautiful architecturally and has such a nice staff. The food is great but service in the restaurant is a bit slow and lacking. Our group had such a wonderful time from lounging to biking the French Countryside.

In my opinion, this place does not deserve 5 stars. Food at the property’s restaurant is HEAVEN but that’s it. There’s nothing special or magical about this place. Service is ok, not bad, but don’t expect to feel the magic of a 5 star hotel. You have to bring your own luggage to the room and waiting times are huge specially for breakfast, I think they lack personale. Apparently we missed the time for room cleaning since we slept until 1pm, we went out at that time to visit the small towns nearby and when we came back the room was not cleaned (it just didn’t feel like great service) There’s not much to do around, I was very excited about the fact that the place has a farm and that they cook everything at the restaurant from the farm, but there’s no explanation about the farm, I wish they had a farm tour and more activities in general. It seems like a really good restaurant with accommodation in it, but not a 5 star hotel for sure. It has potential, but it’s not there yet.

Beautiful hotel in unbelievable surroundings. Rooms are nice and large. The team is extremely competent, friendlly and spent a lot of time and energy helping us with an usual situation (broken down car during a long weekend). Anne Sophie in particular shines with her proactivity and resourceful problem solving and essentially saved our weekend singlehandedly. The food was great, the service a little bit unusual for such a place but I really liked it in it's own right, I think it's great to employ people from the area even with a bit less formal training. Will be happy to come back soon. Just as a hint of constructive feedback the bedddings could be slightly better (recommending bassols for example).

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon, and it was one of the most special places we’ve been to. The surrounds, the serenity and the people are second to none. It truly is an oasis in the countryside and it’s a memory we will cherish forever. Thank you to everyone at Domaine de Rymska!

Lovely hotel in the middle of nowhere with beautiful accommodation and great staff. We were upgraded to a large suite with private jacuzzi - even the toilet seat opened itself for you! Very large bathroom which had a tendency to mist up very quickly (not good if you’re putting your makeup on). Room was a little dark but facilities beautiful. The food in the restaurant was delicious both nights - couldn’t fault it. We had to preorder breakfast which was a bit of a pain as you don’t know what you want the night before - but it was nevertheless very good.

The location is perfectly secluded and in a beautiful property. The room (Irma) was stunning, spacious, beautifully furnished, the stone bathroom was incredible and the terrace lovely. Definitely recommended to take a bicycle from the hotel for a ride in the lovely countryside around. Food was also very good with vegetarian options. Minor disappointment with the breakfast. Website claims that they use products from the farm but in full summer blast when apricots, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, melon are in seasons we were served a tropical fruit salad :(. Service was a little “countryside” like and lacked raffinement, not very helpful either: we had to carry our suitcases to the room on the upper floor without elevator, there was no staff to help even though we asked :(.

Recent three night stay in ground floor suite, separate building from reception/restaurant etc. Suite ok though a bit quirky (hessian flooring?)|Bar and restaurant welcoming and food generally ok. Except breakfast. They request you put order in previous evening, but makes no difference. Second morning waited 25 minutes just for that first cup of coffee. We did not say anything as just wanted to see how long they would take. Croissants were a good 10 minutes later.|Overall not a bad stay but the location is so remote that in-house dining is pretty mandatory, so patience is essential.

This was our second time to stay, and there is no doubt, this is a beautiful place to stay at when visiting Burgundy, and we will probably be back when we go that way again. Rooms are very well appointed, the bedding luxurious and the food is really good. The location is rural, but pretty spectacular, and while there are no "views" in a traditional sense as the property is located low in a dip, the immaculate landscaping, ponds and being surrounded by meadows with horses, cows and ducks give it a great sense of serenity. We stayed in one of the newer lovely suites and really liked the room. My quibbles are not major, but at a Relais & Chateaux charging over Euro 1000 per night for some of its rooms, it is all about the details: 1. the in-house restaurant serves top quality food, but at eye-watering prices. If I am paying top prices, I would expect the wait staff to be dressed in uniforms, and be very polished. Instead, the staff was very "junior", and dressed quite casually. 2. We had 6 glasses of wine amongst us from a limited list of wine-by-the-glass with prices between Euro 16-24 per glass of 2022 vintages, and the pour was the smallest I have ever had. I asked the sommelier to be a bit more generous with his pour, and he became all huffy saying that the pour was 200ml. No way was his pour almost 1/3 of a bottle - more like 3 sips. 3. The room information sheets about contacting the front desk and connecting to the internet were obsolete. The network and password were non existent, and the room phone being referred to, could not be located. 3. The fancy electronic toilet needs a simple instruction sheet. I am pretty good technically, but could not figure out how to use all the nifty features. Perhaps management could look at these small things, fix them and make Domaine de Rymska even better?
