15 Best Sugar Shacks (or Cabanes à Sucre) Near Montreal | Eater Montreal

"An orchard and winery in the warmer months, Domaine Labranche first found its footing as a sugar shack in the 1920s selling bottles to Montreal grocery stores. Operating until April 18, the sugar shack experience here takes place in a comparably smaller dining room, but sitting elbow-to-elbow is part of the fun. Hearty meals of crêpes, baked beans, pea soup, omelettes, ham, bacon, and pork rinds get served with maple desserts galore, and diners can expect to be handed a full wine list coming from the shack’s own cellar. Prices are $42 per adult and anywhere from $11.50 to $30 per child depending on age." - JP Karwacki

Awesome place for a family trip to the sugar shack! Highly recommended for a traditional quebecois breakfast. This is a very old site with history dating back to first contact with the Mohawk in this area. This is located in the heart of old ktown ... This place has everything you can ask for to eat and the maple syrup is sooooooo good. Check it out and let them know jackbrown9120 sent you and win a prize 🏆 ... #spicyadventuresKTOWN. Domaine Labranche is one of the few Cabane à Sucres that have meals that cover most dietary restrictions. They have omni, vegetarian, vegan, Gluten-free, and lactose free. We had the vegan meal and it was delicious! The staff were friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere, with a beautiful fire pit to lounge around. The one thing that would make it better for families is if there was slightly more for kids to do. Maybe an obstacle course or something. Overall loved it, and would return!

As this location has a large gluten free menu, it was super interesting to go and try! Although the options are amazing, there is of course no guarantee of zero cross contamination, keep in mind if you are celiac. This is a great place to go with friends and family and the staff is very very friendly and helpful! Cozy and cute atmosphere too!

Fantastic experience. Maybe not super heavy on the educational component of how they harvest the sap. But boiling room was neat, and there is strip pulling on the snow. Great for groups, large or small. Vegetarian food was delicious. Small gift shop sells syrup and wine from the property. Small petting zoo/barn and playground for younger children. Driveway is gravel / dirt, so be prepared for mud. Had a great time!

Was very glad to find a vegan menu at the Sugar Shack. It’s too bad they don’t have traditional bacon, sausages and ham, but vegan !!! The scrambled tofu and beans were very good tho. Loved the pea soup too:)

I recently organized an event for our retired school administrators at Domaine Labranche. From the very beginning things went very well. My dealings with Catherine Landry were always pleasant and efficient. Everything was well organized. We were very warmly welcomed when we arrived. The food was very good and there was a lot of variety. I chose this particular sugar shack because of the extensive menu and vegetarian options for our members who are vegetarian, as well as distance from Montreal. It was about a 20-30 min drive for most of our members, which is very reasonable. The service was great; if we ran out of anything, it was quickly replaced. The cabin itself is lovely, with old French Canadian charm, and was bright and clean. We left very happy and well fed! We were even given a 10% discount at the boutique. We are hoping to organize another event in the fall for apple picking/wine tasting. I would highly recommend Catherine Landry and her team at Domaine Labranche for your next Cabane a Sucre event.

Domaine Labranche exceeded expectations with its diverse food options catering to vegetarians and vegans alike. The family-friendly setting, complete with a playroom, small farm, and horses, makes it an excellent choice for families with children. The friendly staff adds to the positive experience. Highly recommended for an inclusive and enjoyable outing.

I decided to come here this year as they are one of the few places where a vegan option is available (thank you so much 🙏) It's a nice place, sugar shack "feeling", but like a lot of places in Quebec, they have a mini farm and personally, I don't like it. Marinated cauliflower and beet salad were super good! Not too sour, not too sweet. We didn't receive our fruit ketchup, but got it when asked. The pea soup was yummy, well seasoned. For the main dish, potatoes were ok, baked beans also ok, The scrambled tofu was a deception. It was weird, watery and bland. To compensate, the dessert, omg! The maple syrup "grand-père", absolutely delicious!!! A huge win! Last year I went to Cabane a Tuque and comparing both, this place deserves a Michelin star haha and it costed me 35% less than the terrible experience I had in 2022. So if you are going to Cabana a tuque, consider this place ;)
