Chicago’s Top Sommeliers Recommend Their Favorite Wines - Eater Chicago

"Domaine Weinbach is highly regarded for its Grand Cru Riesling, which is known for its high quality, bone-dry character, and ability to be cellared for decades. Considered the best estate in Alsace by some, it has entry-level wines as well as more prestigious options like the Schlossberg Cuvée Sainte Catherine, 2017." - Kat Odell

An Autumnal Road Trip Through Alsace Wine Country

"On the outskirts of town lies Domaine Weinbach. Call ahead to schedule a tasting in a small room cluttered with bric-a-brac that feels like the Faller family dining room—they’ve owned and operated the estate since 1898. Tour the cellars and you’ll see giant oak barrels as high as the ceiling, some almost 100 years old, filled with balanced Pinot Blanc and fruit-forward Muscat."

Sweet on Alsace

"Laurence and Catherine Faller, who run Domaine Weinbach, are inevitably described as 'the beautiful Faller sisters' by (male) journalists." - Lettie Teague

We had a lovely half-hour experience. The gentleman who greeted and guided us was very friendly and shared quality information about the wines. Needless to say, the wines were amazing—except for the orange wine, which wasn’t to our taste. Still, it’s definitely worth trying and experiencing for yourself

Fanny accepted my reservation request and she also turned out to be the person who led us through the tastings. The wines are beautifully crafted, many of them complex enough to hold for years. Fanny's knowledge of the terroir, the winemaking process, and each wine's characteristics was impressive! The tasting room is set up such that small groups taste at their own pace at different tables. Fanny has the ability to shift from table to table and jump from wine to wine without missing a beat, and without leaving anyone feeling neglected. Totally amazing. Highly recommend this beautiful estate!

Had a wonderful tasting with the son of the owner and received very interesting historical information about the winery. Tasted great wines and purchased a few, thereby waiving the tasting fee. Completely disagree with some of the negative reviews, because this winery was an excellent winery with very classy, humble and welcoming people. If you’re going to complain about the €65 tasting fee, because you can’t afford to buy €100 worth of wine to waive the fee, you probably shouldn’t be going there in the first place, because it’s clearly stated that is the price. I think some people just can’t wait to write a negative review. In this case, it’s a shame because this is a wonderful winery.

Welcomed in the kitchen, you feel at home. Great selection of Rieslings and Pinot Gris. Wines with tension and grip. Tasting is expensive but waived when you buy.

The wines were excellent, and the staff treated us with genuine kindness throughout our visit. We had the chance to taste nearly 10 different wines, which made for a truly satisfying experience. I highly recommend visiting this place—it’s absolutely worth it.

While I’m not an everyday wine drinker, maybe a couple bottles a year, I am a craft beer and food guy. I know basics about wine, enough to know what I want and what I like. I like what Domaine Weinbach has to offer. My wife and I randomly stopped in, they were extremely accommodating. We did a tasting in their kitchen, loved every second of the experience. The owner sat with us, talked about the wine, history, and just life in general. We even got to spend time with her son, who had recently graduated college back in the states, very close to where we’re from. We ended up buying a few bottles to take home, absolutely loved them. Holding onto one more for a special occasion. High recommend visiting if you’re in the region.

I’ve read about Domaine Weinbach but never before visited nor tasted their wines, but after an fantastic dinner at La Table d’Olivier Nasti we decided to ask for a wine tasting there. And boy what an experience. We got the pleasure of being guided through their wines by madame Faller and felt in love with the place and their wines. And my god the Riesling GC Schlossberg Cuvée Ste Chaterine is good. Probably the best white wine I’ve ever tasted. Today I sit and wonder why this was my first visit to Domaine Weinbach. Maybe my first, but definitely not my last.

High class vineyard with exclusive wines. Tasting room is small and intimate. Personal and informative serving.

Yelp
The Alsatians have a great thing going when it comes to food and drink. The merging of French and German eats and beverages make for some great product. Weinbach's Cuvee St Catherine Schlossberg is a grand cru riesling you'll find on the menus of Mini Bar or Benu and for good reason. It's a beautifully floral, light and crisp wine. Think acidic enough to balance the salinity but lightness of oysters, monkfish liver and squid. Also, great for toning down the heat of the touch of serrano chile but not so sweet as to overpower those flavors. For around $50US it's not the cheap sleeper but it's definitely an excellent price performance value regardless.
