Cake Slabs
Hong Kong Milk Tea-ramisu -
Good milky black tea flavor. The chocolate sponge cake was moist and had a good flavor, however I think a different cake would have paired better with the ceylon ganache to let it shine. It almost felt like the chocolate cake was competing with the ceylon ganache for attention. Very light coffee flavor for the coffee buttercream, where it tastes more like caramel or some other milk tea buttercream. This cake was the sweetest of all the cakes I've tried. Also, tried the leftover cake today and strangely liked it less than yesterday when I first tried the cake at room temperature. This was my least favorite cake out of all of the cakes I've tried.
Hojicha -
Really good hojicha cream flavor. Vanilla buttercream was really good. Good vanilla cake, but texture was a tad dry, but overall a good cake!
Chocolate Salted Caramel Black Sesame - Good dark chocolate flavor. However, the salted caramel flavor was missing for me. Chocolate cake was soft and moist. I have have tried this cake before and it's really good when the salted caramel brings the chocolate cake and black sesame together in a delightful flavor twist. They all kind of sing together.
Earl Grey Lavender -
Lavender ganache was very good. It was very smooth and velvety. Yes, it is a good, strong lavender flavor for those who want to try this cake. Vanilla buttercream was very good too. With the Earl Grey sponge cake's texture was slightly coarse because of the ground Earl Grey tea leaves mixed in the cake. But this played very well with the lavender ganache and the vanilla buttercream almost tasted different because of the strong lavender and Earl Grey flavors. As an Earl Grey fan, I approve! Absolutely loved this cake! This cake tasted better the day after too. This one was my favorite of all the cake slabs I've tried. Checked the website, but it seems this cake wasn't offered as a whole cake except for the cake slabs. Would love it if they kept this cake on the menu as an option for those who want to order a whole cake.
I think the cake slabs were a great idea to introduce Domi's cake flavors for those who haven't tried them and don't want to get the full cake nor pay the full price. Hope they will continue to offer cake slabs. Enjoyed all the cakes!
Location -
Two locations for pick-up. The Temple City location was very straight forward when I picked up last time. But the Arts District / Santa Fe location is difficult to find! The building numbers are not visible either. Maybe it's the GPS, but I always got lost here and never found the exact location for pickup. There's too many turns to find this place, where it is located at an industrial building. Later, I was told that it is on Santa Fe Avenue. So best to park on that street once you arrive. Text them as soon as you arrive and they will bring out your order to your car, which is always nice.
Customer Service -
Minimal interaction, since this is mainly ordered via website. You do have a timeframe to pick up your order and if you run an hour late with no contact, they can cancel your order without a refund. So please be mindful and contact them ASAP via text to let them know. I was running late myself and I've texted them my situation and it turned out fine. When I came to pick up, they were having a hard time finding my car, as I was parked in a different street when all I did was follow the GPS. Ha. But everything turned out fine and good. Glad they do bring out your order to your car.
Pop-Ups & Farmer's Market Residencies -
They do not have a brick + mortar bakery shop, but they do have pop-ups and have weekly Farmer's Market appearances if you check out their website. At the very top in white letters, you'll see "Check Out Our Upcoming Events Here." Also, if you look at their homepage, you'll see a small white dots above the logos, The Strategist, Eater, Food Network etc. Click on the white dots to scroll and you'll see the links for "Pop-ups + Partnerships" and "Farmer's Market Residencies."
