The 18 Best Mexican Restaurants On The Westside - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s fun to go to Don Antonio’s with a big group and eat in what feels like an underground cave, even though there aren’t any underground caves in Los Angeles. There’s usually a wait here, but time moves quickly when you have one of Don Antonio’s blended-to-order margaritas in hand (order it spicy and they’ll throw in some jalapenos as well). You’ll also probably end up eating too many warm chips before the food comes out, but that’s all part of the experience. Everyone seems to like the super burrito, but we recommend a combination plate involving enchiladas, crispy tacos, or chile rellenos." - sylvio martins, jess basser sanders, brant cox, arden shore

The LA Margarita Power Rankings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"When Don Antonio’s turned its parking lot into a potted plant-filled garden party, we deemed it the best place on the Westside to fill up on chips, salsa, and frosty margaritas. All of this West LA spot’s margs are made fresh to order, whether you order it blended to Icee consistency or shaken until colder than the depths of your freezer. And if Don Antonio’s pico leaves you craving a little more heat, order your cocktail spicy and they’ll throw in some serranos for an additional kick." - brant cox, sylvio martins

Don Antonio’s - Review - West LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s fun to go to Don Antonio’s with a big group and eat in what feels like an underground cave even though there aren’t really any underground caves in Los Angeles. As of 2020, they also converted their parking lot into a potted plant-filled garden party, complete with papel picado overhead. Regardless of where you sit, you’ll probably end up eating too many chips before the food comes out, but that - and the made-to-order margaritas - are all part of the experience. Everyone seems to like the super burrito, but we recommend a combination plate involving enchiladas, crispy tacos, and chile rellenos." - Arden Shore

Google
Don Antonio’s is one of those rare places where food, history, and family come together effortlessly. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed like old friends. We sat in the cave, which created a warm and intimate atmosphere that felt like a big family gathering. The history of this restaurant is present in every detail. It has been family-owned for generations, and you can feel that pride in both the food and the service. Adam, part of the third generation, was so gracious and attentive, carrying on a tradition built on heart and hospitality. The food and drinks were unforgettable. The margaritas were truly some of the best I have ever had, and every plate was fresh, flavorful, and made with love. We had such a great time that the drinks were flowing and laughter filled the night, leaving me with only a few photos to share. I will definitely be back to add more to the collection. Don Antonio’s is more than a restaurant. It is an experience, a piece of Los Angeles history, and a celebration of family tradition. With delicious food, incredible drinks, and hospitality that makes you feel at home, this is a place you will want to return to again and again.

Google
Don Antonio has a lot going for it. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food came out right on time, which I appreciated. The tacos were tasty, but I was a bit let down by the presentation, having them wrapped in aluminum foil took away from the traditional vibe I was hoping for in a sit-down Mexican restaurant. I expected a bit more authenticity in the plating. Also, a heads-up: the red salsa that comes with the chips is extremely hot, not for the faint of heart! Parking can be tricky too; unless you find a spot in the back alley, it’s tough. Solid food overall, but just shy of perfect.

Google
This place is over the top. We strangest off with Queso Funito it was a great appetizer. Queso cheese and chorizo. I had the Chili Reno and a Carna Asada taco both great. My wife had the Birra Tacos plate and my son had the burrito. Everything was perfect and fast. Service was amazing did not have to ask for more chips they brought them out and replaced with hot ones before we even finished. Very reasonably priced too 3 of us was $77. I would highly recommend Don Antonio’s to anyone.

Google
I love this place, go there all the time. Good margies, solid food, and there are great people working there.

Crystal T.

Google
Service was amazing; staff is very friendly. The restaurant is dated and dark. All that aside, from the reviews I was expecting fantastic food, but it was just okay. I thought the chips were very thick and salsa was spicy, but grows on you. The chicken tortilla soup is not good. The chicken was tough on the outside and the broth was more like tomato soup. We also ordered the enchiladas and we asked for chicken with green sauce and beef with red and we got chicken with red and beef with green. The food flavor isn’t bad, but different than what I expected or wanted.

Google
I came here for the first time today and sat at the bar. My carne asada plate was delicious and huge! The service was very friendly too. Highly recommend.

Google
BEWARE Gave the 1 star because this use to be my favorite restaurant. The recent price gouge with smaller portions is the straw that broke the donkeys back. It's not only $1 increase, a lot of items increased by $2 or $3 with a significant smaller portion. $9 for a carne asada taco you can eat in one bite. Used to be $7. Food still taste good but only got 2 stars for smaller portions. Smaller portions all around. Beans and rice are smaller. BEWARE Only your FIRST ROUND of chips and salsa is free now. Used to be endless free chips and salsa

Google
Amazing micheladas, fried mojarra ,.menudo, spicey salsas, fajitas and good service . The patio seating is great , inside the restaurant is dingy.

Min U.

Yelp
This place was all around excellent. The salsa was actually spicy. The food portions, food quality, and service were well worth the price. I will definitely be returning whenever I'm in the area again.

Yelp
I been coming to Don Antonio's for years and honestly, their food has remained consistent for over 2 decades. Their food is very delicious! Their tacos, tamale, burritos and their sizzling fajitas are some of my favorites to order. I do wish they would add rice in their burritos but I totally understand if they don't want to make it a permanent ingredient in their burrito dishes. I love their margaritas and their micheladas. They do tend to make them strong so be able to have a DD with you in case you're ordering more than one. The service is great. They're friendly and very good at explaining and suggesting dishes off the menu. I love the old dimly lit Spanish restaurant setting. Cherry wood furniture with Spanish accent walls and lighting. It truly makes you feel like you're dining somewhere in Mexico. I am a regular and will be coming back here soon.

Yelp
Couldn't forget my long time favorite, the shrimp taco with soft corn tortilla, avocado, and cabbage. 10/10 with the chipotle sauce. I think about her all the time. Today was a good day. Honorable mentions to the fresh hot chips and homemade salsa. Chile rellano and enchiladas also delicious. Amazing service as always! Love the cave room!

Yelp
I once heard a statistic that most people go to the same 10 restaurants 95% of the time they go out to eat. If this is true Don Antonio's is one of those places for me. This place is not a taqueria or one of those elevated Mexican restaurants with $30 burritos. It's more comparable to homestyle Mexican food with an allegiance to making food like my grandma makes it...or WOULD make it. I'm Mexican, but honestly my grandma never really crushed it in the kitchen in that way, so maybe it just scratched that itch. I'll also say this. It's difficult to find good Mexican food on this side of the city that's not from a taco truck, so it's nice that this place exists. I have been here dozens of times and have yet to have a bad experience. If you go, I'd recommend showing up on a nice day and grabbing a table on the back door patio area (not the parking lot one.)

Yelp
Don Antonio's did an amazing job again just like everytime I've been here! Came here for cinco de mayo. We were easily sat since we came when the restaurant first opened and was able to get a great spot outside. The food here is always amazing and the portions are great! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Luke B.

Yelp
Beware no more endless chips and salsa. Price gouge with smaller portions. Not ony $1 increase. Some by $2-$4 per item. Used to be my favorite restaurant. But due to the new price gouge and smaller portions I'll be in search of a new Mexican restaurant . So sad to let this place go . But I can't justify eating a $9 Taco in one bite .

Yelp
First of all, I have to give this place a high rating just on service alone. It was one of the best customer service experiences I've had in a long time. They anticipated our needs before we knew we had them. Bravo. Now, the food: Usually the chicken in dishes is so dry that I rarely get it. One I our party got a chicken enchilada and I had no idea a restaurant could nail good chicken anymore. So tasty. The verde sauce was delicious. We were told this was the place to get chile rellenos. For us, it was okay but the person in our group said it wasn't quite up to the usual level but I would try it again. Everything else was delicious that we tried. We enjoyed taking the two salsas, the one with your chips, and combining. It was the perfect combo. Enjoy

Yelp
If you're looking for good Mexican food, this is the place to go on the west side. I have been coming here for years and I am never disappointed. The tacos are delicious, but the enchiladas are always fabulous. The queso fundido is the best ever and the beans are as good as mine and that is saying a lot! Parking is not so great but the service is excellent. They have a great lunch special Monday through Friday you can't beat it. If you haven't been here, do yourself a favor and try it out. The Carnitas nachos are delectable and feed at least three people for a very decent price.

Yelp
Good Ol Don Antonio always on deck when needed. :) I was in the area for work and needed food. I knew if I had time this would be my stop. Ate at the patio on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon it was overly full since it was noon. My server brought me my water and chips and I was ready to order my combo meal of 1 crunchy taco and 1 enchilada. Didn't fail me always so good. Didn't have time for drinks this time but I'll catch you on the rebound. Thank you!
google avatar

Polly S.

Yelp
Interior atmosphere is surprisingly large and inviting with a nice outdoor patio. We were seated right away with no reservations. Chips and salsa came complimentary which is not always the case anymore. They had a non-spicy version of the salsa which is a nice option for kids. I got the diabla fish which I wasn't a fan of. The sauce was more like a ketchup but the fish portion was large which was nice. Hoping to try with a garlic option next time because there might be potential there.

Megan K.

Yelp
I have been craving good enchiladas and I found them! A bit pricy but delicious and the service was so quick and kind. the flan is amazing!!! The marg was nothing special but yummy all the same Old school ambiance and big booths. Would love to see them busier
google avatar

Belinda J.

Yelp
This is my first time at this restaurant. I love the old Mexican ambience. We had our food on the patio it was about 18 of us. Service was a little slow but the servers were very pleasant. I ordered The Carnitas and it was just really horrible, beans rice were good. The only reason I'm giving this Restuarant a three rating is the Cadillac margaritas were excellent. I had the chicken quesadilla for an appetiser and it was excellent. The tortilla was very good. The rest of my Party ordered the fajitas and they were very very good chicken and steak fajitas. Overall, it was a good experience. I will come back to this restaurant but they definitely need to take the Carnitas off the menu.

Yelp
After a long day of apartment hunting, I decided to stop by Don Antonio's, and it did not disappoint! I went for the Don Antonio Special, which is perfect if you're not sure what to get--comes with a little bit of everything. The crispy chicken taco was bomb, and the chile relleno was cooked to perfection. The tortillas were on the thinner side, which I actually loved--gotta cut the carbs somewhere! The dish was delicious, with a cheese enchilada included, and the presentation was authentic and well done. This was my second time here, and the vibe, whether sitting inside or outside, is just perfect. I mentioned to my parents that I would bring them here next time. I also love that they serve coffee, so I'm definitely grabbing another cup before we go. And the flan? To die for! Highly recommend Don Antonio's--this place is a gem! The Service is great!

Yelp
I used to frequent this spot when I was in college. If you're craving fried tacos and fajitas come to Don Antonio's. I got the 2 taco combo plate with rice and beans. The restaurant is like sitting in a cave. They make great margaritas and you can see and smell the trail of smoke when someone orders the fajita plate. The service is always great and I love that they give you mild and spicy salsa with the table chips. They don't take reservations but they have a bar waiting area.
google avatar

Jojo H.

Yelp
Amazing drinks and chips and salsa. I like my order, food was really good. Our waitress was awesome. And, love the look of the interior, the decor makes you feel like you're somewhere else.
google avatar

Monique P.

Yelp
Never disappoints--huge portions and the best ceviche I've ever had! The flavors are fresh, the service is quick, and it's always a satisfying meal.

Alexander A.

Yelp
One of the top Mexican food sit down restaurants in the west side, great food, fast service and it has this old monster type feel with the seating and lighting!
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Loved this place! Great for groups and parties. Reasonable prices and great food! Service was great and friendly

Maddie O.

Yelp
DAs is the best place around. If you're looking for BOMB tacos on a Wednesday (only $1.95!!) or a delicious michelada then this is the place for you. I can not say enough about this restaurant and their amazing staff. The ambiance is also one of a kind as you can choose to sit inside in the cave or outside on the quaint patio.
google avatar

Fancy G.

Yelp
As always they never disappoint! Food was so delicious! Sunday morning with menudo was just perfect. Husband tried the Chile Colorado for the first time and he said it was perfect. And of course our waiter was so friendly and courteous as always! No lines great food great ambience just a perfect Sunday morning

Yelp
My first and last time at this dump was on April 26, 2025. I love Mexican food and have never had Mexican food that I do not like until I tried Don Antonio's. This has to be the worst Mexican food I've ever had, absolutely horrible. I ordered the beef enchiladas combination and a beef taco. Both were horrible, I took two bites of each and thought wtf! My friend and I also ordered the Queso Fundido. Let me tell you, there was nothing fun about that sh$t. I was expecting creamy Queso that I could eat with chips. Not this sh$t. I had to cut the cheese with a knife. I was DONE! My friend had her food packed up to go. I wasn't taking that sh$t home. Even the chips and salsa were not good. Jeeze! When the server came to pack my friend's food, it was clear that I had only taken a couple of bites of the enchilada and taco. He showed no concern and did not offer to take it off of the bill. The inside is tacky with seat cushions that need to be replaced. The entire experience was horrible. I will never go back. My friend suggested this place, not sure why because there are far better places to get Mexican food. Oh, the rice and beans are mediocre at best. Don Antonio's is a solid NO! Please forgive any typos, this was typed on a mobile device.
google avatar

Stuart B.

Yelp
This place has the best guacamole and the most delicious sizzling fajitas! They also make a great cerviche.I love the decor. The lighting is romantic and it has that fun old school Mexican restaurant decor vibe. There is a gorgeous aquarium at the entrance. The walls have Mayan-esque details, tiles, peacock art on the walls and stained glass windows. The big leather booths are super comfortable. They make fantastic spicy margaritas. And the service is excellent. Be careful as their fajitas are so fresh and good that they're addictive.

Sowri S.

Yelp
Today we went to Don Antonio's in West Los Angeles for dinner. All four of us are vegetarians and unfortunately they didn't have any vegetarian dish besides bean burritos and quesadillas. Even the chips were fried in lard. May lord be with them. The only saving grace is our server was who told us upfront that this restaurant has very little vegetarian food. VEGETARIANS: please do not go to this restaurant. My mistake that I didn't ask them when I called. Lesson learnt.
google avatar

Arvin P.

Yelp
I've driven by this restaurant so many times and have heard from a few people to check it out. I decided to have lunch here on my day off and had an overall really great experience. Multiple people checked in me throughout my meal to ask if I wanted more chips and salsa or drink refills. I really liked the decor inside too. From my short time there it looked like there were three main areas inside and an outdoor patio as well. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes!
google avatar

PriyaTaya M.

Yelp
Chicken fajita here is the bestttt. This is my second time here and I really enjoyed all the food we ordered
google avatar

Erin O.

Yelp
We love this family favorite! Delicious food, yummy margs, and smiling servers and a cozy atmosphere. Free chips and salsa. There's a reason they are always busy. *Park on the next block south on Barrington if Pico is full, get a chance to walk off your meal.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
Walked over here from my friends apartment in the neighborhood. We got a couple skinny margs, the fish taco plate and asada quesadillas. Pretty delicious greasy food and the salsa is banging. Staff was nice but our waiter could have been more attentive. Will def be back in the near future!

Parmida P.

Yelp
Cute and cozy outdoor space! Easy open seating and friendly staff as well (for example, one of our cutlery sets was dirty and they quickly replaced). Lots of meters nearby, and some free street parking as well. Free chips and salsa was fresh and delicious. The guacamole was bland, although fresh. Cheese and onion enchilada with salsa verde was tangy and very delicious, although a bit cheese heavy for our taste. Steak was very fatty and under seasoned, but refried beans were wonderful. Overall felt that the food could've used a bit more seasoning (lime & salt!) but we enjoyed the outdoor seating and comfortable dining experience.
google avatar

Daniela A.

Yelp
Stopped by while visiting LA to relive UCLA times! Food was amazing! They have complimentary chips and salsa with the freshest salsa you've ever had! We got the skirt steak and ribeye which both came with rice, beans, tortillas, and guac! The service was great and quick despite it being a busy weekend. They also have a full service bar so we delighted in a michelada and margarita on the rocks! The only thing that would make it better is if the tortillas were freshly handmade
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Nothing fancy or pretentious- just some good ol' Mexican food before the advent of Chevys or trendy, fusion Mexican cuisine became popular here in the City of Angels

Eva L.

Yelp
One of few really good Mexican restaurants around. Chips salsa spot on, beans and rice , taco full of meat. Encyclopedia could have had more meat kinda skimpy. Love the way my Cadillac margarita came with tequila in a shot glass to share. Be back soon
google avatar

Johan S.

Yelp
Love this place for so many reasons. Food, service and Cadillac margaritas are wonderful.

Ken D.

Yelp
I love the outside patio so I can bring man's best friend. The waiters made sure he was well cared for. Five stars just for that. The food here is solid Mexican food at reasonable prices. The service is excellent, they were very welcoming and many team members were involved to make sure we had everything we needed and our water glasses, chips and salsa stayed full. I had crispy taco and a chili relleno, both were very good.

Rafael R.

Yelp
So for 10 years I've passed by this place and never stopped because of parking . Yes parking is crazy in that area , but we finally stopped and I had the Antonio's special and it was good but the big margaritas were really good. So I asked for a drink menu and they told me that they don't have one but they have a full bar . That was kinda weird. The place is dark cave theme I guess but it a great local spot the vibe was good will probably go back and try their fajitas ..

Paola G.

Yelp
Food was delicious! And the service is amazing!!! Carlotta is such an amazing and kind person
google avatar

Mia K.

Yelp
Muchas gracias, Don Antonio! I don't like Chile Rellenos. Turns out I've only had bad ones til now. Great service, a little pricey but you get huge portions. Their two item combos, $16, are a great deal. The salsa is quite spicy but we were undaunted cuz their chips are fresh and light. You can always get a margarita, though they are weak. They were busy for dinner on a rainy night. My friends recommended here for happy hour but they no longer have that. They do have lunch specials until 3pm for $11. We celebrated a friend's birthday with a Mexican custard dessert that I didn't like but my friends did. The interior is dark but still welcoming with many cozy booths. We were stumped by most of the trivia questions on their napkins. The outdoor is festive and great for warmer nights. We found street parking easily. Interestingly it's right next to another Mexican place. Would come again for the service and convenient location.

Kay L.

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant I have been going there for 35 + years the food is excellent, the service & atmosphere are the best. My waiter Rosalio is like family to me.... The prices are very reasonable & the food is always served hot... Everyone is treated with respect.... A five star ***** Restaurant.
google avatar

Ane V.

Yelp
My client ordered 3 plates. Taco, Chile Relleno and Cheese Enchiladas. It came with refried beans and rice. The Taco was finished. The taco shells where crisp and delicious. Chile Relleno - my client find it too spicy. She'll ask for a salsa verde next time. Cheese Enchiladas - It was okay. I have tasted better. We will give it a chance though. We will order again or go in person.

Yelp
One of my very favorite Mexican restaurants in LA. I grew up in San Diego and have lived LA for many years now so I have had many great Mexican meals and would say this place is definitely quality. Service was quick and everyone did a great job. It's impossible to make reservations so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a 7:30 Saturday dinner. They don't have a parking lot so you're only option will be street parking or neighborhood parking behind the restaurant. To start I chose a cup of the Albondigas Soup and honestly loved it. I could've easily ordered the bowl and definitely would get it again next time. For my entree, I chose one of my favorite dishes: The Chile Colorado. It was well cooked and it was a large portion size. For dessert, we chose the Xango and it was terrific. A great end to the meal. Overall I would recommend to any fan of Mexican food and I definitely plan to be back many times in the future.
google avatar

Lucy C.

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinner at Don Antonio's yesterday. They have a good selection of kids' menu, which is always a plus for us dining with little kiddos. We ordered a combination plate (crispy taco and enchiladas), Tostada supreme with chicken, kids mini beans and cheese burritos, kids quesadillas and a side of fries. Everything was delicious. We also ordered Xango with vanilla ice cream dessert, which was also amazing. Service was great, food came out quickly, and we were seated quickly. Only downside was finding a parking spot. They only have street parking on Pico, which was packed in the evening.
google avatar

Alexandra S.

Yelp
I've commented here before but am commenting again bc you can't reply directly to other posts. The woman who gave this one star clearly doesn't know Mexican food. At all. And you can tell by what she expected when she ordered the Queso fundido - which is delicious and authentic and what it should be - not whatever version of Texas Mexican velveeta she was expecting. There isn't a bad thing on the menu, though the highlights are the tacos, chile colorado, and enchiladas. There are 3 rooms, 2 patios, each offering their own vibe, all comfortable, all w/ their own esthetic. The drinks are fantastic and generously poured. Been coming here since before I could talk so I'm not about to just watch someone talk down on them and not try to correct it.
google avatar

Jenny E.

Yelp
I ordered the carnitas chimichanga. There was a lot of meat in it, but I thought it was just alright. Overall, I would give the food a 3, but for the amazing service and kind staff, Don Antonio's deserves a 4.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
"You haven't been to Don Antonio's?" That's what I told my buddies when we met there recently. I said it's a great tucked-in old school Mexican joint with a nice patio outside and great curved booths inside. We took a patio table under a heat lamp and kicked off with a nice smooth Don Julio and some tasty guacamole. I asked for some hot salsa and they brought out a delicious two legged kicker. It tasted so good on our food and chips. Quesadillas tacos burritos tamales we had it all. Rice and beans. Margaritas tasted nice and were generous. Food was perfect OG style in LA. We all enjoyed it and stayed late to become members of the clean plate club, an honor bestowed on those who appreciate good food in a classic LA restaurant that deserves your attention. Really. Just give it a go like you would when you want Mexican and typically go one or two places only. Make this one next. During day time spring weather the patio is an awesome spot for large groups after work or with a bunch of friends. And then, get ten plates of super nachos, five pitchers, and a bunch of napkins. And then when you're there, you can say to your compatriots, "You haven't been to Don Antonio's?"

Yelp
I love Don Antonio's, it is my favorite restaurant since the 80's, I used to work nearby and we would often go after work a couple times a week, the chicken fajitas are the best. I often crave them, but everything is good, reliable and consistent..

Sienna A.

Yelp
Really enjoy this place. Workers always really nice, and it's very satisfying to see the steaming fajitas come out. The setup is really cool, on the inside it kinda looks like a cave. Outdoor seating is nice and shaded.

El H.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant since 2006. Not the best Mexican food in LA by any means but it's always solid. It's a neighborhood gem with good margaritas and a staff that's loyal and I like familiar faces. I will say that their tortilla soup is the best I've ever had in my life. It's a great soup base with lots of flavor with very good slices of grilled chicken and cubed cheese and nice big pieces of avocado and crispy tortilla strips. No corn thank god and no thick creamy broth. It's the way tortilla soup should be in my opinion. Always gonna be a DA's fan!

Curt B.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in the valley. My go to is the albondigas soup although they're famous for their chicken tacos and I can't argue with that. Really good quality and it's a nice hang. Keep it open forever please California.

Great Mexican food. Good service. Nice ambiance. Decent wait time. Great place to eat with friends.

Yelp
Gave this restaurant another chance and went in during the week to get tacos and drinks. The tacos were the same as they've always been, nothing has changed from my visit 10 years ago so nothing new to Yelp about there. Two stars for the tacos. I ordered one chicken, and two potato tacos al a cart as well as a margarita. The wait staff was friendly enough however, I noticed something scammy after I got my credit card statement. I had paid with a credit card and left a cash tip so I drew a line through the tip area on the signed receipt. I also kept a copy of the exact same receipt to remind me of the transaction and good thing I did because the waiter WROTE IN AN ADDITIONAL TIP AND ADDED a $10.50 tip to the balance. I immediately called the credit card company to dispute the "add on" charge then called Don Antonio's and spoke to the manager letting him know of the dirty practice of one of his waiters. NOT COOL. Guaranteed he gets away with it on the regular and I'm not the first person he's tried to scam for extra money. Most people just sign the slip and leave, then likely wouldn't recall exactly what they spent. The loser who tried to steal my money has probably made a killing adding his own tip amount into the total. I ALWAYS keep my receipts until I see the matching charge on my statements. People are SHADY these days and although it wasn't much, if every dirtbag pulled the same thing every time I went out to eat, it would be significant. I can't stand people that steal, pisses me off. Look at your receipts when you pay with a cc at this place. Thieves work there and will gladly steal your money.
