The 12 Best Mexican Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Don Maguey’s mole is so thick, you could use it to lay bricks. But then you’d have people licking your walls all day. So let Don Maguey layer it on their enmoladas and enjoy it on a plate like a civilized person. Start with the aguachile first. There are sweet pops of pomegranate dispersed between big chunks of shrimp and fish. You can skip the tacos. The housemade tortillas hold up as well as your excuses for why you smelled like cigarettes when you got home from high school house parties. Not well." - virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer

We showed up on Sunday and weren’t expecting much—Don Maguey is tucked into a pretty rundown strip mall. But inside, it’s a whole different vibe—small, cozy, and full of colorful, festive decor. Edelso took care of us and nailed it with the service. Super friendly and gave us solid recommendations without being pushy. We went with the fish and shrimp tacos, and both were excellent. The seafood and the fish were fresh, the tortillas tasted homemade, and everything was seasoned just right. Glad we stopped in. It turned out to be a great little spot.

Tucked away in the heart of NW Miami, this Mexican restaurant is a true hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, the cozy, vibrant atmosphere set the tone for what turned out to be an amazing dining experience. The waiter was incredibly attentive—warm, welcoming, and full of spot-on recommendations. She guided us through the menu and made sure we had everything we needed. Now let’s talk about the food—absolutely savory and delicious. Every bite was bursting with authentic Mexican flavor. You can tell they take pride in their recipes and ingredients. From the tacos to the mole, everything hit the mark. If you’re in NW Miami and on the hunt for legit Mexican food that feels like a local secret, this is the spot. Don’t sleep on it—you’ll leave full and happy.

Satisfied! The mole was delicious, not too thin and not too chocolaty.. the chilaquiles were also good. Really enjoyed the sauce. The michelada was classic and spicy as well as the Al pastor tacos. Good presentation and taste. Will return. And they give you chips and two salsas to start- a must/game changer.

We had the chicken mole with Mexican rice and refried beans, the steak burrito and churros with vanilla ice cream. Everything was fantastic. It is a casual place that is great to bring people visiting town. The place was pretty clean with decent service.

Everything was great. From the food to the service and the atmosphere. Oaxaca inspired. Also tried the Oaxaca mole but forgot the picture 😔. Might I also add that it's very fairly priced. It's hard to find delicious authentic Mexican food in Miami, but we finally found it. ♥️

Don Maguey Mexican Restaurant is a hidden gem, but fair warning: don’t miss the entrance or you’ll have to do a loop to get back—though that’s not the restaurant’s fault. The parking lot is a bit tight and limited, which can be frustrating considering how good this place is, but again, that’s more of a location issue than anything they can control. Once inside, we were greeted warmly by a kind waitress. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, no worries—they speak English too and make everyone feel welcome. The menu is small, which I appreciated—it’s straight to the point, and surprisingly, they offer vegetarian options, which is rare for many traditional Mexican restaurants. It’s a nice bonus for those who don’t eat meat. Prices are reasonable, so don’t be intimidated by the bill. They do include a service charge, but considering the experience and food quality, it feels fair. Overall, I highly recommend Don Maguey for anyone looking for a quick bite or a casual meal that still delivers memorable flavors—great food, good people, and a spot worth revisiting.

As a California girl living in Key West, it’s not always easy to find truly authentic Mexican food, but this place was incredible! The flavors were spot-on and genuinely authentic. The service was top notch too. Our server was friendly and attentive. I’ll definitely be stopping by again on future trips to Miami.

We just stumbled upon this on YouTube yesterday, and decided to take the drive from Boca Raton. Absolutely worth the drive. The food was absolutely authentic and the presentation was subpar. Absolutely recommend if you’re looking for a Mexican dining experience. Our waitress name was Kelly, she was very informative and attentive when placing our order. We were very happy to meet chef when he came to visit our table.
