The Best Restaurants in Katy Asian Town

"This deep fried haven, located inside the H Mart food court, serves a Korean version of Japanese katsu, where meat and vegetables are covered in panko bread crumbs and fried. Appetizers and snacks include fried pork and vegetable gyoza, octopus tako yaki, and ika kushiage, a crisp whole squid served with spicy aioli. The signature main is the donkatsu, a battered pork cutlet brightened by zig-zags of a slightly tart katsu sauce." - Minh Truong, Mai Pham, Eater Staff

Surprisingly good - fresh salad and big serving, you just have to wait a bit because they take their time preparing it.

Google
Cafeteria style eatery in HMART but my family loves this place. The quality and consistency of their donkatsu (we have had the cheese, the curry, the regular) are always perfect over rice. They also always give us more curry or donkatsu sauce if we go back and ask for more. The employees at Donkey Yaki are always prepping or cleaning or aware of customers walking up. Very very attentive. It’s also super cold on this side of the eatery, so bring a sweatshirts. Oh, you can sub fries for their salad for free and we always do this. We come here about twice a month. It’s busy on Saturdays and finding parking can be a bit difficult as the entire KATY Asian town parking lot seems filled, so be patient.

Ordered here to try out the place. The food came out quick and the service was great. The price for the portions of food you get are fair. Will comeback here in the future

Google
This restaurant is awesome! It’s located inside the food court of H-Mart so it might be crowded at times but the food is *always* worth it. For me, the must have items are the donkatsu (Pork cutlet with katsu sauce and a side of salad) and the korokke (potato and corn croquettes). The price is similar to other restaurants in Katy Asia Town, but they are very generous with the portions. Highly recommend this place if you’re unsure of what to try in H-Mart.

Google
Located inside of H Mart food court, this little gem has all kinds of tasty Japanese dishes. The blistered shishito peppers were tasty and spicier than most.

Food is made when ordered. The ribeye beef teriyaki is cooked perfectly. Nice crispy edges and good flavor. Been here twice and love it.

Google
My wife and I went on a taste test of places in hmart and this place was enjoyable, albeit with a limited menu (I don't eat pork). We split two appetizers, the yaki tofu (fried tofu) and the korokee (fried potatoe croquet). Both were very well prepared and had a great flavor, the korokee reminded me of our trip to Japan. We would potentially come back for a snack but it's a smaller menu (for for thought).

Google
We came here after some putt putt. This is located in the food court of h mart. Water is self serve and dispenses from a water cooler. We got spring rolls, gyoza, potato croquettes, and cheese donkatzu. There was just cheese in katzu and a bit disappointing.

Yelp
Cool shop inside H-Mart offering a variety of Japanese inspired rice dishes. After coming back from Japan I was in the mood for some Tonkatsu so looked this place up. Great portions. Reasonable price. Food is decent. Overall good value. The rice felt like medium/long grain and didn't hold its shape too well. Which makes eating with chopsticks a bit awkward. Tonkatsu sauce here is mild in flavor and is non traditional. Not bad. Must be made in house. Just not as tangy with that stronger Worcestershire flavor I'm used to in Tonkatsu sauce. I prefer the traditional sauce myself. Korokke tasted like deep fried mashed potatoes, good crisp on the fry. I can't place my finger on it but the filling doesn't quite work for me. I don't think the sauce does much for the flavor. Overall good value with 3 for $5.99. A decent option of you're stopping by at hmart for lunch.

Yelp
Got the katsu curry. No notes. The portion was good and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the salad on the side. They were friendly - def try it!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our lunch here. It's inside the H Mart food court, and the air conditioning was pretty cold, so I'd recommend bringing a jacket. We got the fried squid and the curry cheese donkatsu. Both were excellent. The fried squid had an excellent savory seasoning blend. The curry cheese donkatsu had a perfectly crispy crust, melty mellow cheese, and flavorful curry.

Yelp
Was craving a variety of food; luckily Hmart cafeteria has plenty of options! The donkatsu was very delicious/crispy and Donkey Yaki was very generous with the katsu quantity given the price. My only gripe is there's not enough curry for the katsu and rice. Definitely worth trying this place!

Yelp
I ordered the Ribeye Beef Teriyaki with rice and fries. Normal fries, decent not bad. The beef was tender and flavorful. Overall a decent lunch. I would order again.
google avatar

Anton G.

Yelp
The order supposedly comes with both green salad and a cup of miso soup, after receiving the delivery there's no salad or the miso.
google avatar

Lauren N.

Yelp
Ribeye Beef Teriyaki: I really enjoyed this dish! The beef was cooked well and had good flavor, though a bit more sauce would have made it even better. The rice was nicely cooked, and I liked the accompanying salad. The sauce that came with it was tasty too. Overall, it was a good meal, but the beef teriyaki didn't offer anything particularly unique. 8/10 Miso Soup: The soup was yummy and served hot, indicating its freshness. It tasted like a classic miso soup and had a good portion size for the price. The tofu and seaweed in the soup were enjoyable. 9/10 Service: The cashier was friendly and provided great service. 10/10

Yelp
Got donkasu. It was good. Meat is thick and good. This place is good. Kasu sauce was good as well. Substituting fries for salad works well with kids. Service was good. Will go back.

Yelp
We were coming in from a 4-hour drive and didn't want to cook, so we searched restaurants in the Katy Asia Town area. I wanted Donkatsu as I'd enjoyed it in Japan a couple of months ago. I found prices that ranged up to $18. We paid maybe half that amount in Tokyo! I saw Donkey Yaki's price ($11) and high rating and read reviews before deciding on it. Usually, food court restaurants are just average. Well, this place is really good for what we ordered and paid! My husband had the ribeye and I had the curry donkatsu. Both came with sauce, salad dressing, rice and a crispy salad. My husband wanted more beef, but my plate came with TWO pork cutlets! My sauce had the right amount of curry, but they can make it spicier for Texas tastes. The only things that could make it better are a side of the (red) pickled veggies and a good shake of those rice crispy looking garlic bits!

Yelp
Amazing food and superb customer service at a reasonable price! I come here very often and I'm never disappointed. I definitely recommend!!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
If you like donkatsu this place is highly recommended. Good portion with very crisp katsu, one of the best in town. My wife always orders cheese donkatsu and the cheese inside is incredible! Must try it! It is located in the Katy Hmart, so it has the food court vibe and you will absolutely love the food here!
google avatar

Lizzie H.

Yelp
We were really impressed with this place! Highly recommend. They cook the food to order so there is a wait but it's well worth it. It's located in a food court. The place is nice and clean. The server was friendly and took our order and then went to cook it. The takoyaki was really good. I've had it many times and enjoyed this one. I really loved the curry cheese donkatsu. The curry sauce was super yummy and a little spice. The donkatsu was fried to perfection. Can't wait to return!
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
This is in the HMart but it's delicous and well priced!! We tried the takoyaki (careful it's really hot!) and katsu curry and both was delicious. You can also ask for more sauce if needed free of charge. The katsu also comes with a salad & delicious Japanese dressing (or can be switched out for fries at no extra cost!). Service was fast and friendly. Can't wait to come back and try their other dishes especially their tornado potatoe swirls on a stick.

Yelp
Delicious little spot inside the Katy H Mart! Stopped here to grab a bite while I'm in the area and I'm glad I did. You order at the counter in the food court and they give you a number -- it only took about 10 minutes to get my food during peak dinner time. I got the curry donkatsu with korokke (potato and corn croquette). Curry donkatsu was really good -- the cutlet was nice and crispy but the overall dish was just your typical curry katsu and didn't really stand out to me among others I've had. Donkatsu is served on a bed of rice and they give you the curry sauce on the side to pour over the cutlet. The plate comes with a side salad topped with an Asian dressing, and this worked well to balance out the savory flavors of the katsu. So all in all, a big portion for $10. The korokke on the other hand was absolutely amazing! I've never had anything like it before. Honestly wasn't expecting much besides a fried potato ball but there was lots of flavor on the inside and they give you a dipping sauce on the side, similar to Raising Cane's sauce. My only complaint here is that the amount of dipping sauce they give is hardly enough to suffice for the three croquettes that comes in the order. Overall a great find inside the Katy Asian Town H Mart and I'd be interested to try some of their other specialties like the cheese donkatsu!

Chloe M.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh food, generous portions, incredibly fast & friendly service, nice ambiance, and an unforgettable experience. 12/10! best restaurant in Katy!

Yelp
There were 4 restaurants at the Katy H-mart Food Court. I found teriyaki at Donley, I got it. The teriyaki was amazing. Half of the plate was salad. It made me feel like eating healthy food. The price was reasonable. I liked it.

Yelp
If you are at H Mart debating stopping by for dinner, DO IT! We came across Donkey Yaki in the H Mart food court area and decided to try both their korokke (Japanese panko battered potato & corn croquettes) and curry donkatsu. I was super hungry and had no expectations. Wow, this place was a huge surprise! The korokke was delicious & so much more flavorful than I could have imagined. I absolutely loved the pork, which had a crispy outside almost similar to tempura and a juicy inside. The curry sauce itself was so good too. This order also came with a salad which we didn't even expect. The girl who took our order was very friendly. Also, the prices were very fair! It will be hard to go to H Mart in the future without coming here.

Yelp
The squid is our favorite it is sooo good Tofu is one of my favorite minus the sauce maybe next time is should order it on the side

Yelp
My favorite new H Mart food court restaurant!! It's Japanese fusion so it serves up different teriyaki and katsu dishes. The potato croquettes were incredible- super soft and fluffy interiors with crispy breading and a delicious curry dressing. I had the cheese curry donkatsu, which is pork and mozarella cheese katsu covered in curry on rice with a salad. The portion sizes are huge, definitely enough to share. The salad was really tasty and fresh with a savory dressing. Service was friendly and fast. Free miso soup with a yelp check in. Stamp card- you get one stamp for every 10 dollars spent and after a certain number I think you get an entree? Will be back for sure!!!

Yelp
Me and family decided to order a dish from a few of the food court restaurants and just try them all. 8pm on a Sunday evening they ran out of the Curry Cheese Donkatsu. It must be very popular. I settled for the CURRY DONKATSU. The portion size was pretty big. I can't imagine finishing a whole entree by myself. It's a great sharing size. Visually it was colorful and clean. The pork katsu was lean and crispy. There was a salad with a variety of vegetables to make it healthy. I didn't feel heavy eating this. It's a great price to portion ratio. If I'm ever in the area I would wanna come back and try their Cheese Donkatsu My cashier was very nice and helpful. Pro-tip: I'm not sure if any of the windows would give out sharing plates because we were eating family style. I asked Donkey Yaki for two small two go boxes. We ripped them in half and used them as bowls. It worked perfectly!
google avatar

Sunnybear Q.

Yelp
We tried chirashi bowl and bento box at noon. It comes with miso soup and salad. You don't have to choose one of them with your lunch entree, they offer both. Miso soup is salty, I think they put too much miso in it. Salad is fresh, the source tastes the same as it in other sushi restaurants. Chirashi bowl is my favorite. Very fresh fish, overall it tastes good. The only thing I was a little disappointed is it doesn't include salmon roe-ikura. Bento box impressed me. Large portion, tempura even includes a shrimp. California roll looks pretty. I recommend this place!

Yelp
This place is truly a hidden gem. First let me just say how personable and kind the owners are. I have only ate here twice and I can say with utmost confidence that I will be back time and time again. Just today, because I locked my car keys inside my car, I was unable to enter HMart without a mask to pick up the order. The owner was kind enough to bring out the order for me to the front (HMart doesn't allow customers to come inside without a face mask). Now onto the food. It's delicious! The food is fresh, flavorful, and they serve generous portions (you get what you pay for, bomb a** food). I have ordered the katsu, beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki. All of the items I've ordered were fabulous. A). Beef Teriyaki ‐ well seasoned, great blend of marbling and meat, teriyaki sauce is not overly sweet. B). Chicken Teriyaki - well seasoned, I could eat this dish without the teriyaki sauce provided. C). Donkatsu - the breading provides enough crunch without being soggy or mushy. The meat stays moist. The sauce provided is flavorful, definitely reinforced their statement that their sauces are housemade. Lastly... the most unassuming item, the salad. Holy cow was I surprised. The salad dressing is out of this world. Tangy, sweet, I could eat this with anything. I sometimes use the left over to pour over the rice. Oh! I almost forgot.. the rice served here is deeeeeelicious. Idk what grain they are using but it's perfect. Not to hard, not too soft, just right! All I can say is if you're in Katy and you're looking for some reasonably priced food that does not compromise on quality, flavor, and service, Donkey Yaki is your restaurant. It is nestled inside HMart along the back side of the food court.
google avatar

Michelle O.

Yelp
The curry pork katsu with cheese was good. It takes several minutes to make but is worth it. The cheese hot and melty. The pork is hot and crunchy. The salad is pretty good. There's a lot of different vegetables in it. The lettuce is pretty fresh. There was only one leaf that was a little wilted. The rice and curry parts were good.
google avatar

Yeney L.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable. So far I've tried the beef ribeye teriyaki, the chicken teriyaki and the tako yaki, and would highly recommend it. Absolutely fresh and delicious every food time

Kristina S.

Yelp
We have tried everything on the menu and it's all really REALLY good. Our favorites are the Beef Ribeye Teriyaki and Curry Donkatsu. You can't go wrong with the Tako Yaki as an app and we finally got to try their new item, whole fried squid. It was HUGE and comes with 2 dipping sauces. It's a must try! Best spot in Hmart! Always delicious and big portions!

Robin K.

Yelp
Everything we've ordered from here is amazing! Try the fried squid! It's huge and delicious! The best Donkatsu and Teriyaki dishes also, generous portions and fresh!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Went to Hmart to see what food they had for lunch. And notice they a food court. Well out 5 places I picked Donkey Yaki the food was delicious!!! The server/cashier/cook was amazing she was very helpful and gave me some recommendations.. Will go back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Okay y'all... This review goes out to one dish, and this dish speaks for itself. Anyone who visits here should order this dish and prepare to be blown away! Curry cheese donkatsu was by far the best Korean dish I am now in love with. I originally came to H-Mart and ordered from a different food court restaurant, and later walked around and saw this interesting dish from a different menu. My friend and I sat down and I brought it up to him that the Curry cheese donkatsu looks bomb. He decided to get up and order it anyway, after we had already ordered a huge feast elsewhere. Oh well, it was my birthday and I get what I want. GOOD LORD I AM SO HAPPY HE ORDERED IT! WE KILLED EVERY LAST BITE OF THAT CURRY CHEESE DONKATSU, AND TOOK OUR OTHER MEAL HOME. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! Super crunchy on the outside, cheesy and meaty on the inside, with the taste of curry... GTFO... Only coming to this place now when I eat at H-mart. Forget the other places.
google avatar

Tracy N.

Yelp
It is inside the H Mart. It's a cafeteria style atmosphere so it's first come, first seating in the cafeteria. Has many table and great for large parties that way everyone can pick and choose other restaurants. Customer service is nice and quick. Pricing is average. Cheese curry donkatsu was delicious. Very flavorful and love the cheese fusion inside. Large enough portion and the salad dressing that comes with the salad tastes good too. Karokke is like a Japanese style hash brown with corn and potato. Crispy and flavorful as well. The sauce that's drizzled makes the karokke taste good.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Located inside of HMART Geso Karaage (fried squid tentacles) - Super tasty!! Nice change from chicken karaage. The breading wasn't too much, it was crispy, and the sauce was really good Curry cheesy katsu - Pork cutlet with curry, cheese with lettuce, tomatoes and corn. I really like this dish. The curry sauce was great and flavorful and the corn and salad was a nice addition. There was cheese but it didn't have a cheesy taste if you get me lol. The dish was overall good, you don't see many of these types of cuisine around Rice beef teriyaki- good and flavorful tender meat Service was good. Guy at front was nice
google avatar

Anna P.

Yelp
Late night dinner at HMart Katy! Came across Donkey Yaki and decided to try out there Curry cheese Donkatsu and it was like OMG delicious with the cheese stretched out! MUST try!!! Also had the takoyaki very soft and has a nice piece of octopus inside!!! Customer service is a A++++++ So my Pros are Friendly staff Delish Food Clean atmosphere Highly Recommend I will be back!!!
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch here today. She had the Donkey Yaki tofu, Tako Yaki, and miso soup. I had pork Donkatsu. The tofu was delicious, we loved it. The miso and Tako Yaki was pretty good, but not the best we've had in Katy-Houston. The donkatsu was also pretty good. I would eat here again if I'm in the area.

Sylum G.

Yelp
amazing food. always a treat when im in katy. The curry donkatsu and korokke are my go to dishes. worth checking out if youre in the area or just want some quality food.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Got the curry donkatsu! It was good! The salad on the side was my favorite. The veggies were fresh and well seasoned with a light, tangy dressing. As for the fried pork cutlet, it was nicely fried and went well with the thick, flavorful curry. The curry did make the fried pork a little soggy though. The rice was fluffy and thick. It definitely went well with the curry. At ~$11-12, it is slightly more pricey than other restaurants serving tonkatsu. Overall, a decent, filling meal.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
This place is located inside H-mart in their food court. There's ample seating and this Japanese restaurant caught our eye. We ordered the curry donkastsu. It was a curry sauce drizzled on a fried pork cutlet over rice with a side of salad. The portion at about $12 was a little overpriced to me. I did think the flavors were overall good. The pork chop was nicely fried and not dry. Since the sauce was on top of the fried chop, if you didn't eat it all or fast enough the fried coat would quickly be soggy. I would more likely give this place a 3.5, but I just felt like the prices were a little high for the portion given.
google avatar

Maria N.

Yelp
This place is fun to eat! It's in h Mart but I wouldn't have too much expectations on this place! It just to go to eat kind of place! But I love their fried potatoes! Expect to pay $10+ for a meal which is not bad! Some food is okay but I do recommend the beef meal or the chicken! Overall this place was not bad so I hope everyone enjoys eating here! Thank you for the food.
google avatar

Lori N.

Yelp
Pretty good. The portions are huge and definitely very filling. It even heats up nicely as leftovers! I got the Curry Cheese Donkatsu. The only downside of the to go packaging is that the curry is left on the side inside the box but the food is so hot, the cap of the curry container started to melt. Other than that, this is delicious!
google avatar

Lewis B.

Yelp
This place is so awesome. They fry squid on a stick, and it's so crispy and perfect. Squid on a stick, not sure how common that is, but it's so simple. Why did I not figure that out myself? Geniuses.
google avatar

Julia W.

Yelp
All the sauces are freshly made in-house! The food is all super fresh Check out the cheese-filled katsu! Planning on trying the chicken katsu next time...
google avatar

Sue N.

Yelp
Get the fried whole squid! So good! Everything is good including the chicken or pork katsu and miss soup!
google avatar

Melvin M.

Yelp
Great food and good service! Every time we come by HMart most likely my family will get a bite here.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
This place is GREAT! Big portions. We've gotten the Curry Donkatsu (always delicious). It takes a little bit of time, but it comes out fresh and hot AF so its worth the wait.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
The food is great. The customer service is great. The ribeye teriyaki is delicious, juicy and tender. Monica was our server and she gave the perfect recommendation. We will definitely be back. The food was ready quickly and it was piping hot. There are only 16 items on the menu, but I'd like to try them all!
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Located in the Hmart Market eatery! I tried the curry cheese donkatsu. Worth every penny for the crispy pork. Flavorful curry! Comes with rice and side of tasty salad (yes I said it - the salad was good too!). Good for groups since there are lots of other options at the market eatery to pick from too! I'm glad I chose Donkey Yaki though because the Curry cheese donkatsu is a must try :)
google avatar

Jen Y.

Yelp
Donkey Yaki is quite simply the best Japanese fast food place in Houston. The cheese Donkatsu is incredible - and the portions are very generous. My kids love the Geso KaraAge - the fried squid. It's my favorite as well. My husband loves the Cheese Donkatsu - mozarella stuffed fried cutlets - perfection! All sauces are homemade and amazing - dip your Katzu in the curry or teriyaki sauce!
google avatar

Diana D.

Yelp
As a person who loves dumpling I have to say they have some really good dumplings. They taste great and I love of its crunchy and when you mix it with the sauce they give you it's just so good. I recommend to also get the chicken teriyaki it's great. Also the service is quick.
google avatar

Stephany N.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good donkatsu place, this is the spot. It is located in the food court of H-mart in Katy. We got the regular donkatsu box and the ribeye teriyaki and they were both delicious! The donkatsu was moist and crispy and it paired well with the tomato sauce while the ribeye was tender and flavorful. Each comes with a side of salad which was light and had a garlicky vinaigrette to it.
google avatar

Jai F.

Yelp
Yummy! Hidden gem in Katy, Tx inside the HMart. If you are in the area it is definitely worth checking out! Fast friendly service and great tasting food. You can order to go as well.

Yelp
We stopped by Hmart because we heard it opened and we wanted to try it and it is so cool inside!! The one little place we got food at (Donkey Yaki) suuuuuupwr good aswell!! The miso soup is so good and the spring rolls (although they are more like egg rolls to me) are so fresh! 10/10 would recommend
