Where To Eat and Drink in Albany Park

"This neighborhood bakery, fittingly, sells a mixture of French and Middle Eastern pastry, from petit fours, mousse cakes, and eclairs to baklawa, bukaj, and ma’amoul cookies with different fillings, available by the pound. There are also breads and savory pies for those who were somehow born without a sweet tooth." - aimee.levitt, Eater Staff

Chicago’s best Middle Eastern restaurants - Eater Chicago

"This grocery store carries Middle Eastern and Indian cooking supplies. It’s a storefront for a massive wholesale operation that provides pita and other baked goods to restaurants and stores across Chicago. There’s also a Middle Eastern bakery with cakes and an astonishing array of baklava. Order via third parties on the bakery’s website for delivery." - Rebecca Holland

Tried Dubai Chocolate for the first time and it was really good! Loved the creamy, crunchy pistachio filling. Unique texture and flavor — definitely worth trying.

The dubai chocolate here is really, really good. It's fun to come here as an outsider to middle eastern desserts; the selection of sweets here is huge and offers ample opportunity to try something new.

If you really like baklava then this is THE bakeshop to buy at. There is a very nice selection of various Jordanian sweets and of super fresh high quality. Sold by the piece or pound but don't kid yourself, go for a pound. Or 2. Or just get 3 pounds and share the wealth..you'll have a bunch of new friends. Authentic and hospitable staff that will let you test out a product before buying. Clean and presentable offerings on sheet pans under glass. Highly recommend the mini pistachio or walnut baklava. Birds nests with chocolate looked delish. They will dust your baklava purchase with ground pistachios. Bonus is the bake shop is adjoined with a cute little store for other items such as teas, dates and imported chips you can't find easily in Chicago.

Went here with my son to get some baklava. Truly the best place to try an assortment and learn. The gentleman behind the counter - Khadifa (I think that’s how you spell his name) is the BEST! He should get a raise! The quality of product and his customer service is one of a kind! He’s really proud of their treats and he should be, it’s fabulous. We got an assortment and a Dubai chocolate bar. So amazing! And it’s a huge bar with loads of filling. Try it! Now! You’ll be sad if you got just one!

Hands down, the BEST baklava in town! Everything is homemade, super fresh, and absolutely delicious. They have a huge variety of flavors, and you can really taste the quality and authenticity in every bite. The guy behind the counter is the nicest—so welcoming and generous with samples! Seriously, you’ll get to try so many tasty treats. The whole place has such a warm, inviting vibe. A true neighborhood gem. If you love amazing sweets and friendly service, you have to check out Donya Bakery. Highly recommend!

Very disappointed with the flavor of their kanafeh. No real flavor at all so bland and maybe the worst I’ve tried so far. Even more upset that my husband bought so much of it thinking that it would be good. I was so excited to have a place near the house with sweets like this but that wasn’t the case.

Very disappointed with this place. We used to love buying thousands of Dubai chocolates from here — they were the best in the Merc in Chicago. But recently, they changed the recipe and started making the chocolates with a peanut butter and pistachio sauce mix. Unfortunately, the new flavor is terrible and completely different from what we were used to. We were really sad about the change, especially since we had placed a large order. The person we spoke to promised to replace the chocolates, but instead, they reported our DoorDash account — which feels very unfair. We’ve been loyal customers for a long time and always loved this place. To make things worse, the prices went up and the quality went down. It’s really disappointing to see such a great product go downhill. We hope the company listens to feedback and brings back the original recipe.

The products at this bakery were a major letdown. Everything we tried was overwhelmingly sweet and lacked any real flavor. Compared to other bakeries, the quality and taste just don’t measure up. Won’t be coming back.

Yelp
Overall: The best Dubai Chocolate I've tried so far! Satisfied with the prices, taste, and many treat options. - Would I return?: Yes, I will be returning. My Food ---------- * Ordered- "Dubai Chocolate with pistachio sauce on top" and box of "Turkish Delights" * Flavor & Taste- I've tried Dubai Chocolates from various places. This one has the best flavor, texture, size, and price. The largest out of them all. Please note that you can not pick this one up for a bite- you must use a fork since it has a softer texture and is not a chocolate bar. In terms of the Turkish Delights, the box only offered 2 flavors- rose and nutty. The texture was nice, on the chewy side. I was not a huge fan of the rose flavor. * Order again?- I will be coming back for the Dubai Chocolate. * Portion Size vs. Price- $10 for the Dubai Chocolate is the best price for portion by far! The portion is almost as large as my hand. I've seen some that are 1/3 of that size and cost the same. The Turkish Delights were $3.49 for x16 pieces. The Place -------------- * Atmosphere- The bakery is connected to the Dukan International Food Market grocery store, which you must enter through first. * Service- It seems to be family owned. Workers were friendly and helpful. I was offered a free sample of fruit while at the register to pay. * Crowd Levels- Thursday at 6pm was empty. * Cleanliness- Clean grocery store and bakery. * Location- On a busy street during rush hour. * Parking- You can double park on the street, or there is a small parking lot next to the store for the other vendors.

Yelp
I came here on a whim to get some baklava and left with so many wonderful bakery treats too. My heart was full being in that store seeing so many delicious baked goods, bread, sweets and more. They even sell Dubai chocolate. They are open 9am-9pm each day. I intend to be back for more.

Yelp
Stopped in after dinner nearby seeking to satisfy a craving for kanafeh. The shop wasn't busy on a Friday night, but the staff were super attentive and friendly. We were given several delicious samples and took home some lovely baklava. They had so much available! I also grabbed some sesame seeds from the store next door. It seems like a very convenient place to get desserts and groceries.

Yelp
Excellent authentic pastries and sweets. Ordered the Dubai chocolate and kunefe fingers. Kunefe was crispy, flakey, and not overly sweet. Dubai chocolate is a very large portion and house made. Quality ingredients and consistency across the board.

Yelp
Staff is extremely kind and bakery goods are excellent. Love this place. Have a favorite item I cannot disclose for fear crowds will stampede and prices will sky-rocket. Clean, inviting and the baked items are fresh and delicious.
