So excited to receive a new restaurant in Campbell. Tonight was my special Father's Day Dinner!
Made our reservation and they were able to seat us immediately. It was really busy and I'm glad to see that people are interested in trying Doppio!
It took a while to have a server check on us. We were able to give our drink orders only to wait for almost 30 minutes, and the drinks weren't prepared as advertised. The Espresso Martini Fizz, advertised being topped with Prosecco and a toasted marshmallow, was just a standard issue espresso martini. Yes, it was good, but when we asked the server, the response was, "I'll have it re-made," then returning 20 minutes later stating it's made accurately and sometimes they don't have marshmallows or prosecco. Yes, an Italian restaurant not having prosecco. lol.
Somehow we were able to get two rounds of drinks over 90 minutes (for 2 people). If managers wonder why they're losing revenue it's because the bar can't keep up, or the bar isn't performing well.
Food came out before drinks. Food was really quite good. Servers were all over the place, but the food runners and bus staff were all over it. I kept hearing how great the bread was, unfortunately despite ordering bread for the table, it never arrived. We were so bent on our experience, we just gave up.
I think there's an issue with the bar. Every table (4 separate tables) around us were returning drinks because they were made improperly or were not satisfactory. I particularly enjoyed hearing a customer debate with their server as to why a gin martini was so strong! Their reply, "A martini is liquor and ice, we can add olive juice if you'd like." But it was in the form of a debate and not coming from curiosity or of service.
The drink sitch was so bad, that as the server was walking by tables and we're trying to get his attention he'd spit out quips like, "I sure hope that complimentary martini is keeping you satisfied while we remake it..." or "You now have your drink, sir, and I hope you're happy" Passive aggressiveness reaching new heights at Doppio! I'm sure the server is also feeling frustrated, but I as a customer was so sick of hearing it.
People were trying to order food, only to learn the items they wanted, a specific pizza, wasn't available. People were cancelling food and drink orders. The energy quickly turned from fun and festive to "what the hell are we doing here?"
The cadence was so wonky, it was such a cruddy non-starter to the evening.
They've been open about a month. I get there are growing pains, there are wrinkles, there is storming. Bring on the norming and performing, people! IF I ever return, and have a better experience I'll provide an update. For now, it's a big "No Thanks."
For the manager, we were Check #153 if you need to follow up with anyone.
Good luck, Doppio.
