Dorothy’s Bakery Opens First Shop in Lincoln Park | Eater Chicago

"After years of selling out at Chicago farmers markets, this bakery has settled into a permanent Lincoln Park storefront, opened in mid-September, marking a new chapter for owners Brian and Taylor Bruns, who’ve been serving breads, pastries, and bagel sandwiches since 2021. Born from Brian’s sourdough bagel experiments after Flat & Point closed, the operation grew at Green City Market—where 500 to 600 hand-rolled bagels would vanish in hours—and expanded to markets around the city before the constraints of outdoor sales pushed a move indoors. The shop brings back favorites like sourdough loaves and seasonal pastries—including crème brûlée-filled croissants, canelés, cookies, and Danishes—plus sandwiches (bacon, egg, and cheese; BLT; club) on bread or bagels, with the top seller the Frankie, a bacon, egg, cheese, and apple butter sandwich named for the Brunses’ daughter. The storefront also enables items not feasible under farmers-market rules or conditions, such as chocolate cookies and croissants, lemon tarts, and smoked salmon, while breads and pastries continue to be produced at the former Flat & Point facility in Logan Square. A family effort through and through—Brian’s father built the display cases and his parents still work the Downers Grove market—the bakery honors Brian’s grandmother, Dorothy, who first inspired him to cook. The team will keep a presence at farmers markets (including Green City Market) and notes strong demand in Downers Grove, though for now they’re prioritizing quality over quantity; hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m." - Jeffy Mai

Dorothy's Bakery - Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Dorothy’s started out as a farmer’s market stand, but has graduated to a brick-and-mortar spot in Lincoln Park. Expect bagels, pastries, and whole loaves of sourdough, as well as sandwiches like Frankie, which takes a classic BEC and gives it a shmear of apple butter." - John Ringor

7 Chicago Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know in September 2025 | Eater Chicago

"After years popping up at local farmers markets, this first brick-and-mortar will open on Wednesday, September 24, with sourdough breads, pastries, and bagel sandwiches, plus espresso drinks and teas. Owner Brian Bruns named the bakery for his grandmother, Dorothy, who first encouraged his love of cooking at a young age." - Jeffy Mai

I saw them at the farmers market and got focaccia - delicious. Then I decided to order a half dozen rolls for thanksgiving… and forgot to pick them up 🤦🏻‍♀️ - but Stacy was sweet enough to drop them off (I live close by in LP). The rolls were fantastic! So happy Dorothy’s bakery is here! Will be back soon :)

Such a cute new spot, i came in after a run with a friend and I see myself popping in here often. Kara was SO kind and we loved our food and beverages. There is limited seating (5 stools and 4 ottomans) so not the best for longer hangs but works well for grab and go items. My husband avoids gluten and sadly there were no food options for him here- it would be nice to have one GF muffin or something in the future. There was also no option to leave a tip on a credit card, luckily I had cash but I normally do not and I hope that the owners add this feature to help support their team members as I don’t want to always have to grab cash before coming here. UPDATE: I grabbed a French silk pie for the holidays and it was so yummy and light, and such a great deal at $22. I hope they continue to offer pies or other treats for preorder.

Just visited their first brick & mortar in Chicago and had a wonderful experience! Today was their 1st official day of opening and they offered 100 free sandwiches to the first 100 people in line. I got the Green Goddess with scallion cream cheese on a plain bagel and would 100% go back to order again.

We visited Dorothy's Sun.11/16! We drove 90 mins. after see the bakery everywhere on social media! I had the dagwood on facaccia with a dragon fruit juice, and my husband had the club on sourdough a Danish and a coke! My sandwich was one of the best things I've ever eaten! Every bite of everything we purchased was fresh, delicious and filling! (Their sandwiches are huge) The staff was the friendliest with the best customer service lots of smiles and conversation! Even though the bakery was filled and busy, I got to meet the GM Stacy who was absolutely delightful and spent several mins. welcoming us and making sure we were happy with our experience! The food will bring us back! The customer service will keep us coming back! Great experience, really worth the drive!

Google
The best English muffins! Also love their sourdough and focaccia. Have been going to their farmers market outpost for a while and love the brick and mortar option now.

Finally got to the brick and mortar (already missing the Saturday market!). I got the Panino on Focaccia and it was a dream - good quantity of prosciutto, beautiful arugula, and pillowy mozzarella. Just the right amount of balsamic glaze. Hubs got BEC which was fresh and had plenty of bacon. Picked up some of our market favorites (ENGLISH MUFFINS - the best!!!) and a couple of new to us treats. What a cheery, energetic staff! GM Stacy is a driver of excellence and empowerment. Working on our Christmas order!!!!

Yelp
A very cute little shop! Tried some coffees and some pastries. Loved the Italian beef pastry (good spice level!). The vanilla iced latte was perfect. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good morning or weekend stop!

Yelp
I was finally able to try Dorothy's Bakery. They have a number of pastries, breads, food, and coffees. The inside is relatively small and only has some seats for waiting, there are no tables to eat. The staff was nice and we decided to try: - Chocolate Chip Cookie - Crème Brûlée Croissant - Raspberry Almond Danish The cookie was my favorite, but no complaints for the other two.

Yelp
The staff were friendly and I happened to go in on a rainy day so there wasn't any line. I ordered a green goddess bagel sandwhich and a bagel with cream cheese as well as an iced latte and a chai. As I said, there was no line so I picked up my sandwiches the second they were ready, made the four minute walk home. When I got home I unwrapped the sandwiches to find them completely cold the bagels to be un toasted and for my order to be slightly incorrect (swapped bagel flavors). I don't understand why my bagel - especially with a fresh egg on top was completely cold or why the bagels weren't toasted... They only offer espresso beverages which were okay but not amazing. I know this is a new place and I'm sure they are still getting the hang out of it, the staff were kind and the ambiance was cute but I might give them a couple months before I come again.

Yelp
Had the BEST crème brûlée ever!!! And I'm fussy on that. Also tasted the tomato feta pastry. Delicious. Service was great too.
