Dough Zone - Review - Berkeley - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Dough Zone is a Chinese restaurant fromSeattlethat's expanded all over Washington, Oregon, Texas, and now to Berkeley. The location on Shattuck has the same xiao long bao, noodle dishes, and pan-fried dumplings that made this chain famous." - Julia Chen

Google
nice space, great sound system with pleasant jazz playing, Clarence our server was personable friendly, and informative. Unfortunately the dim sum was disappointing. doughy, small and with short on filling to. pastry propertions. Worst stemed pork buns I've ever had. Instead of chunks of savory pork in a light fluffy steamed bun, we got a rubbery mass of chewy dough with a pale lump of some finely ground gilling. The touted specialty: soup dumpling were tiny chewy with less filling and soup inside then at other dim sum places . The pork & Shhrimp boiled dumplings were ok but again not up to other restaurants quality. The one dish that I really liked was not dim sum The Five Spice Beef Shank was delicious but I might not enjoy it ever again only because of the disappointing dim sum. I was really excited at the possibility of a dim sum restaurant opening in downtown berkeley but the experience was a real disappointment. For Dim Sum I will be going to East Ocean in Emeryville great dim sum bigger portions snd great views of the Bay.

Google
Most definitely worth the price. We had the pork and crab XLB, the Dan Dan noodles, and the pan-fried beef dumplings. The ambiance and decor added to the experience; dining in is a good time. The portion sizes are what the price calls for. Besides strangely sweet pickled cabbage with the pan-fried dumplings and a bit of what I assume freezer burn on the XLB, I see myself coming back for a quick and relatively-cheap meal one of these days.

Wow, I gotta say this place is legit! They’ve got everything just right, nice open atmosphere, killer food, and good prices. Coming back.

Google
The crab & pork dumplings were amazing, so do the noodles. Perfect portions and reasonable price. Nice vibe.

Google
Ordered for delivery. The portions were really small for the price. The dumplings were ripped apart and stuck to the box packaging. Very little meat and the broth had no flavor for their noodle soup

Google
The xiao long bao is a disgrace to chinese food. 0 soup, meat tasted gross. Some of the worst chinese food ive ever had.

Yelp
I have been to other locations and was so excited to see one opening up in Berkeley!!!! In my opinion this is the best Dough Zone I've been to so far. The food was delicious, service was quick and the team was super friendly!! Anyone who passed checked up on me and was super personable. Will be coming back with all my friends :)

Yelp
Fair amount of seating and clean place. Servers were nice and you order on the QR code. Food was pretty cheap everything was under $10, but portions for some things like the noodles were on the smaller side. Pork xiao long bao was pretty good as was the beef shank noodles. Good flavor for the price. Scallion noodles were ok, not much scallion flavor a lot of soy sauce flavor. Spicy beef pancake was also pretty flavorful and strong Szechuan flavor. Would recommend coming here if you want Chinese food for a cheaper price in Berkeley

Yelp
I love dumplings. I already tried the other locations for Dough Zone, so now that one opened in my local area, I had to try it! I came on a friday, right when they opened. Since I was with a larger group, it took some time for them to seat us. There was also only about 2 runners, one being the host. So, the service was probably slower than normal. The food and the quality of the food was soo good. You really get what you pay for in terms of price, which some dishes having 8 dumplings and being about $7-$9 per dish. It's a good price for the portions. They did forget a few items, and gave us several duplicates of the same items, but my group was understanding of it. Would love to come back by myself or with less people and try more items on the menu! It is so good here and there are several options of chicken and vegetarian dishes, which isn't what you usually see!

Yelp
This new restaurant has hope. Their restaurant is nice and clean with an industrial flair, which I love. The service is good. They do check in on you and ask if everything was okay The taste of the dishes is good. I like the little twists they do. To me the beef pancake roll was too sweet, but I am a savory lover so it is my taste for sure. The dumplings are super juicy and definitely live up to the soup dumpling name. My problem what you get. I ordered the Dan Dan noodles, which has a ma la flavor, $7.90. This was an appetizer size noodles. Many people will order a noodle as their main and only dish. Seems there should be some sort of size warning I would come back for the flavor fun but with the understanding their noods are ap size. Beef Pancake $9.90 Pork Xiao Long Bao (8) $9.95 Dan Dan Mien $7.90

Yelp
Was searching for dumplings near me this new place opened up walking distance had to try and I'm glad I did! I like that they have a simple menu. I really liked the chicken dumplings soup and the chicken xiao long Bao, it was amazing. I thought it came in the broth but when you bite into it, there's broth inside with the chicken filling. It was very delicious. Will definitely be back to get more the service was great! and I like that it was spacious and clean.

Yelp
Perfect for cold weather. Cucumber was seasoned well with sweet and sour flavor. The drinks were yummy except plum juice, really sour. The soup dumpling and pan fried buns were my favorite. They were so juicy and perfect ratio of filling and dough. The dan dan noodles was simple but nostalgic. The beef was just okay, but broth was good in braised beef noodle soup. Everything else was okay.

Yelp
Firstly we made a reservation over the phone which was incorrectly booked, however, the staff was very accommodating and able to seat us quickly as a large group which was very nice. For the food, a lot of my groups orders were mixed up. We got extras of some thing and were missing others. Some food came over an hour after we ordered. My order of XLB came with 7 rather than 8 pieces. We agreed that the XLB tasted dry and we would not order it again. We ordered the beef pancake rolls and those were the highlight of our meal. The iced teas came with a lot of ice.

Yelp
I saw this place finally opened when I was walking down Shattuck and was so stoked! I got their famous XLB (pretty good), potstickers, pickled string bean with chicken noodle, Dan Dan noodle, & chili oil wonton- honestly, might be as good or better than din tai fung. They had a discount and were giving out free tote bags, which is like the Trader Joe's bags. SO cute! Not sure how long they're doing that for but hurry and get urs! Excited to add this to my repertoire for a quick

Yelp
They are OPEN!!! Been waiting so long, the food here is delicious. My favorite are the Q-baos, be careful eating them, they are steaming hot! The Dan Dan noodles have a nice peppercorn spice to them. Will be coming back here very often .

Yelp
This new spot is delicious, cozy and reasonably priced! Xiu lombao, dan dan noodles and wilted kale salad were all delicious and I will be coming back often!

Yelp
Just had amazing service at this new spot in downtown Berkeley. Everything was top notch - can't wait to return!

Yelp
The food was very tasty and the price point was quite affordable. It was the fourth day that they were opened. I'm really rooting for this restaurant to do well! The front of the house has a few bumps to smooth out. When we got the attention of the staff, we were told that they were shorthanded. There were a several empty tables piled high with dishes and there seemed to be a lack of urgency. One of the servers kept taking out his phone and looking at it. Also there were several parties waiting to be seated, but had to wait for the tables to be cleared. The servers and host were polite, but seemed a little overwhelmed. We felt bad for them. One of the dishes we ordered never arrived. I'm hoping they get it all worked out soon because the back of the house is cranking out some really good food. When they do pull it together, it will easily earn five stars! We are pulling for you!

Yelp
The food was good but cold I ordered to pick up. I think Is better to go to the restaurant.

Yelp
It's some of the best food at great prices. It's a nice casual feel and just great overall.
