Down the Street Wins Battle With Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission - Eater Houston

"The bar Down the Street successfully renewed its liquor license after a judge ruled in its favor against a petition by disgruntled locals. The bar, which has been an amenity in Cottage Grove for five years, received support from hundreds of locals during the hearing and the judge found no violations of TABC rules." - Amy McCarthy

Super cute spot! Food was great- we had the Texan pizza, and the truffle fries. I tried a Carajillo, which was tasty for my first drink. After that I had white wine. Their margarita was good too, and the Stella Artois was cold but a little light in color. The outdoor seating had a great vibe! Bathroom was clean and private! We will be back!

Okay this awesome place is very hidden in a neighborhood! I just found it trying to look for a nice patio to enjoy the weather and we are so glad we did find it because it's perfect! The place is massive with plenty of seating inside and outside, they have TVs everywhere and the bar is huge with plenty to pick from. Very clean and organized. The food is ordered at the bar and the food comes out fairly fast and is absolutely delicious. The drinks are yummy as well, my favorite was the sangria! We really enjoyed it and can't wait to be back.

Down The Street – Chill Vibes & Great Eats Had an awesome time at Down The Street! The food was great, the IPA hit the spot, and playing bingo made the night even more fun. Perfect place to relax and enjoy good company.

Very clean vibrant atmosphere good for all age groups. While I was there, I saw families, young couples, singles, work groups. Food was good, excellent selection of draft beer. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space. And not too loud. Would certainly recommend this place.

It's such a cool place. Met my dad here for birthday drinks and ended up having a really enjoyable time. The atmosphere is relaxed but still popping. Staff was nice, helpful, and happy to help you pick a drink that fits your taste. The food was delicious. We got the special that night, which happened to be steak and potatoes. It was yummy, no one left a bite on the plate. I will say, that I don't think the drinks were strong enough for the price but they were tasty.

We visited this bar coming back from Houston home. So we just ate and didn't drink anything, they have plenty of beverages on the menu though. The parking is quite small for such bar. We were there in the afternoon and it started to be crowded little by little. It's located in a quite cute district. Patio is very cozy, it has different kinds of seats. They allow you to use their Off sprays, you can take them on the patio. I believe it's beautiful when it's dark. Oh well, we will need to come back there for sure. There's an incredibly cute thing: a washing tub for dogs outside the bar! The service is very pleasant. And the main part, the food: it was just amazing! We had Margherita pizza, Rustic pizza and took some Truffle fries for eating in the car. Pizza base is crispy, it doesn't leave you with heavy stomach. They use truffle oil for a lot it seems, and I really love that part! Good job, guys!!

Google
Cool spot with a good atmosphere. Plenty of seating and a lot of TVs. Several of the TVs couldn’t get to the right channel on game night, but one of them could. Seemed like it was given up and TVs left off. Smash burger isn’t a smash burger but a decent cheeseburger. Chicken sandwich didn’t have much flavor and couldn’t see beer list outside had to go inside. Service was quick at the bar

We were a group of eight looking for a Sunday brunch spot that allowed dogs. I called this place and they happily accommodated us! The vibe was very relaxed, and the coffee & alcoholic drinks were praised across the table. Our food was delicious and delivered promptly. We had a great visit and would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Was staying at the Hampton Inn which was practically walking distance from Down The Street but I chose to drive there (will walk next time). I went on a Monday night during their ribeye special night. The steak was cooked perfectly. That potato gratin was also 10/10. The service was just as good as the food. They knew everything about their restaurant!

Yelp
Pros: Open late Fast service Decent food Personable staff Cons: No table service. No a fan of ordering at the bar Charcuterie Plate needs more variety

Yelp
It would be great if people learned how to park and maybe we could utilize the parking lot It's a free for all and so annoying

Yelp
A group of us came to this place since my lovely Yelp friend wanted to try this place for drinks after we had eaten at happy hour. They have a small parking lot, but also parking on the street. It's a cutely decorated place where you order drinks at the bar and have a seat. Nice inside and outside seating areas. Lots of TV's to enjoy the Astros game, or any sport. Drinks - I had a nice Fredricksburg beer I had never heard of Alstadt Kolsch. Then we enjoyed some shots. I had Don Julio Anjejo. One of us had ordered truffle fries, which they said was good. Service was ok. We enjoyed the digital version of a "juke box" and hung out a bit. Some folks were playing Uno. Overall, an easy place to hang out with friends.

Yelp
I went here for brunch with some of my friends a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it! The burger was really big and very filling. The music they played seemed really random and didn't go together at all though, and it was so noticeable that several people in my group commented on it. Service was good, you order at the bar. There's also a water station so you don't have to go up to the bar for it!

Yelp
Loveee their steak night. You get to choose between a filet & ribeye which I love a filet so easy choice. The seasoning on the steak is amazing. Loved the au gratin potatoes as well & their wine bottle specials. Highly recommend to anyone & will be back for steak night :)
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for steak night after a PM Pilates session and fell in love with the Christmas decor! Such a cute spot with a catchy name. Great service with a chill and friendly atmosphere. The steak was pretty good for bar steak. The salad was just salad. The potatoes were a bit under cooked for my liking. I like my scalloped potatoes to be well done.

Yelp
Stopped by for a beer and some food after walking around Memorial Park. I would come back and try other things. I do think overall the food needed a little more pepper/salt for taste, but the fried chicken was phenomenal and it was overall good.

Yelp
Hummus plate is my go to each time. Wait staff is always engaging Always a favorite to catch up with friends

Yelp
"Dive bar" in the best possible way. Nice hidden neighborhood location. You can't find it by accident, and I found it the first time from local recommendations. Service is friendly and very quick. I forgot to ask the bartender her name, but she was a master at mixology, and multitasking. The decor is simple leather and wood, with an exposed ceiling, and plenty of TV's to catch sports highlights. We had drinks and appetizers, and everything was sooooo good, and so much more "elevated" than you would think, given the low key, neighborhood bar motif. I don't know if I should or should not recommend this place, because maybe the locals don't want us "tourist" invading their space. :)

Yelp
Taco Tuesday is a great choice to participate in! I like the option of eating lunch or dinner there with family and friends. Staff is friendly and wait time is reasonable. The food is ordered at the bar and the food comes out fairly fast and is absolutely delicious. Place is very clean and organized. Parking is quite small for this food establishment. Patio is very cozy, it has different kinds of seats. They allow you to use their Off sprays, you can take them on the patio.

Yelp
I've come to Down the Street for brunch a handful of times, it's always a good vibe with a fun crowd (mostly upper 20s and 30s) and a great variety of music playing. You order at the bar and while I've always liked the food, I do wish they had a slightly larger menu for brunch options. Specifically, I think there's an opportunity for more healthy options. On my last visit I split the brunch burger with a friend- this is the way to go! The burger is huge- it's a double patty plus bacon, pimento cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, etc. It's excellent quality and the value for $ is definitely there. The side salad is very high quality as well. Finally, if I'm with a friend we always split a carafe of blood orange mimosas. I'd suggest looking at the menu in advance to be sure there's something you like, but overall this is a great neighborhood spot.

Yelp
Wednesday happy hour, burger, cactus juice and two frozen with gran marne. Cost: $56 with tip. Burger was boring no flavor really. I asked load it up. Really unsettling that I Got horrible stomach ache within an hour of eating it. Went home. Service was attentive. Margs tasted good. But believe there's better prices for same stuff with better bar and food tastes. No clue cause if my stomach ache

Aislynn G.

Yelp
Food is AMAZING! Especially the spinach dip and the hummus. Drinks were super good and the bartender was really quick and very sweet. They also have cool events like game nights and a really big patio. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I ordered some type of cucumber cocktail. Was nice and refreshing. Nice outdoor patio seating.

Yelp
My daughter found this place by Google search, it's a hidden gem in houston! It's a great place for Brunch and Dinner! Their drink selections are amazingly inexpensive! I would highly recommend Down the Street to anyone that is looking for a lazy Sunday hangout, this is the place to be! The staff is knowledgeble, friendly, place is clean n food is delicious, comes out on time, you can have a open tab and relax in the AMBIANCE, they have outdoor lounging and indoor seating as well. Great place to have family and friends join you for an outing!

Yelp
I hadn't been to Down the Street in ages, but decided to go catch the Astros game one evening with a few friends. There are many TVs inside and out, so you'll always have one in sight anywhere you sit. I was quite impressed with the beer selection. I had a couple of great IPAs. We decided to get some food as well, opted for the pizza and wings. Both were solid, helped wash all those beers down :) The staff was exceptionally friendly and had great recommendations. I'll definitely go back soon!

Yelp
Down the Street is affiliated with Around the Corner in EaDo and Leeland House. We wanted to try the EaDo location for their patio seating, but they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This restaurant is tucked within a neighborhood and has a small lot. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with TVs. Southern decor inside. Stand in line to order at the bar, and tap to pay or use an actual card. We sat outside, and it was windy and chilly. They didn't have heated lamps, and one of the rotating fans was on, which we asked to turn off. They had HH tacos for Taco Tuesday - chicken fajita, spicy beef, or crispy shrimp. I had the spicy beef, and my friend had the crispy shrimp. She enjoyed hers. The spicy beef wasn't that spicy, but the sauce the shredded meat was braised in was salty. The crema didn't cut through the saltiness, and the flour tortilla was small for the $4 taco. The bistro truffle and parmesan fries were delicious and served hot. It needed more truffle sauce, though. There was about a tablespoon of the sauce drizzled on top. The brussel sprouts were delicious - smashed and nicely charred. The spinach and artichoke dip was thicker and more cream cheese forward. I liked the variety of tortilla chips and toasted baguette slices. They also serve pizza, burgers, and salads, but we wanted to try a variety of apps. This place is dog friendly on the patio area. We're adding this place on the list to watch Astros games.

Loretta L.

Yelp
A fun place to relax if you live in the area. Indoor and outdoor seating is nice. The artichoke dip was fantastic. The pizza was very ok. The brisket fries looked good but had a little too much queso. The cocktails were yummy. Prices were reasonable

Andrew H.

Yelp
Fireeee DJ. The guy playing songs was the best. Everyone has to go to this bar to listen to the guy playing the songs with the free credits
google avatar

Yelp
Had some wings and they were very good. Would come back . This place is a go to the bar and order so don't expect a server. They will bring the food to your table though. I have tried their rustic pizza and it was delicious !
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute little casual bar that is walkable from my cousin's place! Their food was surprisingly really good. Their truffle fries were the best, and the queso and pretzel was also very tasty. I had their strawberry basil rita was fresh and light. The offer happy hour until 7pm so get there before then if you can!

Yelp
I was introduced to this place back in 2016 and I thought it was a really cute neighborhood bar/restaurant. Came for brunch on a Sunday and there was a nice sized crowd enjoying the outdoor seating area. The bar staff is always friendly and prompt to take my order every time I have been. I decided to get the egg on an island Benedict and a Bloody Mary. The eggs were poached perfectly and the bacon was also really great. Overall the plate was tasty and the bloody was great as well. Parking is very limited but you can park up and down the street in front of peoples townhomes. The ambiance has always been very relaxed and chill. They have a wide selection of drinks and often have specials. Check the website to see what's going on if you decide to try it out.

Yelp
This is a fun, hidden little gem, or so I think of it like that. Lol. A great neighborhood hang out, today we went for brunch and some mimosas. Great vibe, great music, friendly staff and good food. Plenty of seating inside and out. Parking looks like it could be a challenge if you come here on a busy weekend, there are parking lot options but they fill up quick.
google avatar

Gene L.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor space, perfect when the weather is nice. There's an interior portion too, with screens playing the sports events of the day. Dog friendly! They even have a nice little pup hydration station. Drinks are reasonably priced, and above average bar food. Servers and bartenders are efficient and friendly. Vibe/crowd is a bit more young professional (think typical newer Heights resident) vs the more bohemian/artsy crowd you'd see in Montrose.
google avatar

Germanie J.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot tucked off in a neighborhood. Finding parking can be a bit hard depending on the day and time. There are 2 parking areas but they were full so we parked on the street. It's self seating so I'd suggest finding a seat first then going to the bar to order. If it's your first time, it can be confusing. I realized a lot of restaurants are going to this model of ordering at the bar. Having a sign or person directing customers where to order would be helpful. We ordered at the bar and found a table outside. It was a nice evening, weather was just right. The bar is chill and unique, it's a good spot for everyone to enjoy. Food and drinks were pretty good and service was speedy.

Jae D.

Yelp
We went in around 10 pm and had a charcuterie board and brisket fries both were really good. We sat at the bar and the service was quick and attentive. The bar has a was nice and layout was really cute. We didn't explore the full restaurant/bar but had a covered patio. Parking is challenging.

Yelp
Found this place here on Yelp !! It's definitely a must visit . Service was great had so great food and rinks with friends

Andreina A.

Yelp
Yummy food and it's ready very fast Good service Friendly environment for kids and dogs

Em L.

Yelp
It's a chill spot. Same old menu though. Needs an update in the kitchen, and new specials the happy hours the same too. I've lived here for 5 years never changed once.
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
One of my favorite neighborhood bars. They have a great patio (no smoking under the covered portion ) with a ping pong table, solid food options, one of the best Monday steak nights in the city with $20 bottles of wine, a great beer selection, and a decent craft cocktails (good not great). I've also come for their brunch and it was fabulous. If I didn't work Sundays I'd be a regular for sure. Side note, it's bar service only but they have attentive barbacks and their parking situation isn't the best, but it's worth these minor annoyances. I also really love that you can turn pretty much any cocktail of theirs into a mocktail for $6.50. It's made dry January much more interesting!
google avatar

Yelp
Ambience is very chill & inviting food was delicious I had the burger & it was amazing price was fair for the quality of food

Yelp
Down the Street is a cute bar and grill in our cousin's neighborhood. They serve food and have brunch too, but he mainly comes here for drinks and brought our family here after a great night out. It's really cute with a nice outdoor patio, a big bar and several tables inside too. We were warmly greeted and allowed to hang out for a bit after they closed. They are open a bit later than most places in the area, very cozy and memorable. We will be back!

Chris V.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for brunch. Variety of options on the menu. I am true classic with the breakfast platter as it packs a punch to get you going for the rest of the day. The vibe here is great, massive patio area that pops both during the day as well at night with the decor of string light bulbs illuminating the outside area. Nestled between a residential area it is a unique location with such great ambiance. The inside has abundance of TV's to also be your go to neighborhood bar to watch a big game. Staff here is amazing as well, kind and always willing to help. Could not recommend this place enough. You'll enjoy it, Cheers!

Yelp
Tony's bartending skills are top-notch, turning every drink into a masterpiece. His friendly and knowledgeable approach adds a special touch to the overall experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love the neighborhood vibe. I have a soft spot in my heart for neighborhood bars. The food expectations were blown out of the water! We ate so fast I dont have a photo. We had the fries and the burger. They were both delicious. The bartenders were super sweet. I almost dont want to tell people about this place its so good.
google avatar

Joanna J.

Yelp
Somehow end up frequenting this spot every now and again when I'm looking to imbibe around the heights. There's outdoor patio seating along with indoor seating. Bartenders and staff have always been friendly and attentive when I've stopped by. Bonus for those with pups is that it's pet friendly. I haven't tried the full on food menu aside from bar bites and Monday steak night, which I would highly recommend. I'm a sucker for scalloped potatoes alongside a decent cut of steak. Great beer selection and consistently good cocktails.

Anne B.

Yelp
I had a private birthday party for 35-40 people. Justin more than accommodated my ideas on food and drinks. The food was delicious especially the sliders and pizzas! They helped set up the space and break down the space when the party was over. They helped cut and pass out the cakes. Overall the service and staff was friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend this place for a fun time big or small. It was a good value for food and drinks! I want to thank Justin for making my husband's birthday a memorable one!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, polite, and friendly. I loved that more than one of the technicians made the effort to acknowledge my existence. Plus, I didn't feel like any of them were trying to take advantage of me as a customer. The vibes were positive and relaxing, but the techs I could tell were working hard and actually cared about what they were doing.
google avatar

Dominika S.

Yelp
I like the enterrior and the atmosphere. Also for the first time I enjoyed the temperature inside as it was not cold food is good not top notch but no complaints. And they were able to make virgin mojito for me so big thank you good service.

Tera A.

Yelp
Cool little spot with great drinks and food. Counter service type ordering. Great outdoor space as well.
google avatar

Alexander S.

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch with some friends and loved sitting out on the patio! I tried the brisket hash and I was very impressed! The staff at the bar was nice and helpful with getting our orders put in. If you are looking for a good brunch spot in the Heights, this is a place to put on your list!
google avatar

Asia K.

Yelp
Laid back restaurant and lounge. Parking lots can be tight and may have to park on small street as well. We went on a Wednesday and try it out their special $10 smash burger and fries. We'd like the price and the environment. They had bingo playing and chill music. When we first walked in, they told us we must order with the bartender, and then take a number to go find a seating anywhere we like. They serve tap beer and cocktails as well. The exterior patio allowed dogs so great place to bring your doggo! I love their string lights decor as well.
google avatar

Faith J.

Yelp
A nice little spot within a neighborhood so it wasn't that noisy! The service caught me off guard because we had to order at the bar instead of having a server. The seating was super nice which I really enjoyed and there was a lot of sports playing which is good for Sunday football. The mimosas were good and the spinach artichoke dip was my favorite. I would come back here!
google avatar

Kacy M.

Yelp
Came here for a quick, light dinner before going to see a show downtown. Parking lot is small but this place is great with both indoor and outdoor seating, good food/drinks, and clean bathroom. The music isn't super loud so you can actually hear the conversations going on around you and they keep the doors open so you get a nice breeze. My friends and I shared the fries and Margherita pizza. The pizza was a popular photo on their Yelp page and it did not disappoint. The fries themselves were alright, the sauce definitely helped. We came around 5:30 on a Saturday so it wasn't busy which was nice.

Shannon B.

Yelp
This is a cute, hidden place close to Memorial Park. We had their brunch which was tasty. The outside seating was shaded and I loved the swing bench seats. The waitress was very friendly and helpful too.
google avatar

Natalya R.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem of a place. Parking is hard to find but there is a designated lot for this restaurant just few steps away from the place. Great food. Great drinks and the ambiance is even better. This is a good spot for dates, hangout with friends whom you haven't seen in a while and plenty of spaces to choose!

Yelp
It has not been a time when I come to DTS and I dont enjoy myself! The ambiance, food, service, drinks, music, specials, etc, is ALWAYS GREAT! Thats what makes a customer come back... the consistency in the good things the business provides and DTS does not disappoint. People always come with their dogs and they have water for them and i believe also treats. They also have a small reserved area for small parties to reserve. Its just great! Ive been going for about 4 years and I plan to continue!
