The Best Restaurants on Washington’s San Juan Islands | Eater Seattle

"Yes, it’s true that this stylish seafood eatery’s location right by the ferry dock in Friday Harbor can make it pretty busy, especially in the summer high season. But it’s worth braving the wait. With an airy outdoor patio and large windows looking out onto the bay, both indoors and outdoors come with fantastic views of the port, with bald eagles flying overhead and float planes cruising in for a landing. This is the classic San Juans backdrop for Downriggers’ Pacific Northwest sea-sourced and land-based offerings like scallop gnocchi or locally raised organic chicken with truffle jus and mushrooms. One must-order is the crab tater tots, with chunks of Dungeness crab and shredded potato mixed and battered together." - Zoe Baillargeon

The restaurant was absolutely perfect! The atmosphere was charming and inviting, and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. We chose to sit outdoors and were lucky to have such beautiful weather over the weekend. The only downside was the lack of shade in our seating area. I ended up wearing my sunglasses throughout lunch! 😆 The small plates, especially the clams and mussels, were incredibly delicious and honestly exceeded our expectations. Maybe we were just really hungry, but we devoured both dishes in no time and agreed they were packed with flavor. I absolutely loved the citrus mocktail! It was refreshingly light and the perfect drink for a warm summer day. It was also my first time trying fish and chips made with halibut, and I was pleasantly surprised by how tender and delicate the texture was compared to the usual kind. The salmon sandwich was another unexpected hit. The sauce was flavorful, but the highlight for me was the bread, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside. It made the whole sandwich feel extra special

Google
Not worth the money. The waitress was very nice. The halibut, which was the daily special was dry and overcooked. The only way to eat it was with the cooked tomato’s that came with it. We also had the house salad and added shrimp. This was very tasty. The Elote Old Fashioned we had for dessert was also very good. The view is great, but would have rather had an outside table, the wait was too long for this option. All in all, the meal was on, but for the price, I would expect better.

Google
We had the kids cavatappi pasta, the dangerous crab tater tots, the burger with fries and the snapper sandwich with chips. Everything was good and tasted great. I would go back again, losing a star because both of the inside of our buns were burnt to a crisp and made everything else taste off. We didn’t have enough time to request new buns because we were on a time crunch and our server didn’t check on us much at all.

Google
Staff was kind and fast to get us in without reservations with outside seating (marina facing) in the shade for dinner! We order a burger, chowder, and some bread. Everything was delicious. Great food and very attentive staff. Highly recommend!

Google
The view is fantastic. I am pretty sure that is a solid reason for many of us visit this place. The outdoor padio gives you a view to the beautiful harbor. Food is passable. The flavor is good, but the salmon is got is a bit on the dry side. Servers are friendly and attentive. For visitors, this is a great option.

You can’t go wrong at Downriggers. Great selection, quality and service. Very consistent. Outdoor seating is super nice looking at the marina and ferry dock. Highly recommend when visiting Friday Harbor.

Google
Everything, ambiance, service, food & scenery were top notch! I had a spicy Bloody Mary, a cup of clam chowder and mussels. The gf had a house salad with salmon. This is a must go to restaurant on the island. Enjoy!

Google
Downriggers at Friday Harbor has a prime location overlooking the harbor and marina, making it a great spot to take in the scenery while enjoying a meal. The food was solid—some dishes stood out more than others. The crab tots were a fun and tasty twist on a classic appetizer. The fish and chips featured thick pieces of well-cooked fish, and the shrimp mac and cheese was a highlight, with the shrimp cooked just right. The clam chowder? Probably the second best I’ve had in Washington so far, which is saying something. Where the experience fell short was the service. Both the hostess and our waitress were brisk and a bit snobby, which took away from the welcoming atmosphere you'd hope for in a place like this. As expected for a waterfront restaurant on an island, prices were high—lunch for three came out to around $120. You’re paying for the view and decent food, but don’t expect exceptional service to go with it. Would I come back? Maybe, for the views and a bowl of chowder, but I’d go in knowing what to expect.

Yelp
Wait staff fabulous in accommodating desired tastes and selections. Ambiance so relaxing outdoors in good weather. Mussels in garlic cream sauce beyond delicious. Give it actry!

Yelp
By far the best meal I had on San Juan island. The portions here were fantastic, the service here was great, and the views of the docks outside were so dreamy. We were here for a private event--a wedding party--and I find myself still thinking about this place weeks later. The menu was set but honestly I'm not complaining about that at all. The choices were fantastic no matter what you got. Pretty much everything you get is a highlight. The dungeness crab tots are so addictive and the clam chowder is super yummy. For dinner, you absolutely cannot skip the rib-eye. It's a huge slab of meat, but it was seasoned to perfection and grilled nicely. The s'mores dessert was a bit too sweet, but it's great for those with a sweet tooth of steel. If you're going to San Juan Island, you absolutely have to make a stop here. I'm so serious.

Yelp
What a fantastic dinner! We walked in without a reservation and were seated inside right away--super easy and relaxed experience. The patio looked beautiful, right on the marina, perfect for a sunset dinner next time. We shared a fresh, delicious salad and the seafood risotto, which was absolutely spot on, great flavor, perfectly cooked seafood, and generous portions. Our server was incredible, friendly, knowledgeable, and super accommodating. You could tell they really cared about making sure we had a great experience. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quality meal in a scenic, welcoming spot!

Yelp
Come for the rude hostess and okay food but stay for the views. Downriggers is located right on the water so the view is beautiful. Reservations are recommended as outside seating gets taken up first. Unfortunately, the host was rude to our party and very short. It seems that Yelp and Google reviews mention a rude hostess so looks like that was true. The food was just okay - nothing special. The steak was overcooked and the prawns were bland. There was nothing special with the burger or the fish. Overall a popular spot with beautiful views but that's about it - subpar service and okay pricey food.

Yelp
After a busy day on the water and in Canada, we came back to the island around 7:30pm. Not many restaurants are open in Friday Harbor past 8:00pm, but to our luck, Downrigger was right by the harbor! I made reservations for my family and me the morning of. I'm glad we did because there can be a short wait if people come off the ferry and whale watching tours. When we arrived, our table was ready and they had a list of rules for our dog. They are dog-friendly but have rules you need to abide by. We sat outside which was a beautiful view overlooking the harbor. Inside was spacious and busy! I found the service to be all right. It seemed like our waitress was ready to be off, not very personable, or informed. We shared the Crab Deviled Eggs which left more to be desired. Barely any flavor of crab and no seasoning for the egg. For my meal, I had the South Sound Clams. They were not good! The clams were mushy which makes me think they weren't probably cooked after being frozen. The sauce was fine, but very thick and the clams masked in the sauced. This was not my favorite meal and I struggled to eat it. My family had their food and ate it all, no complaints. Downrigger is one of the popular restaurants in Friday Harbor. The views are nice and it's in close proximity but the food isn't the best. The restaurant is easy to find off Front Street. There's free street parking all around.

Yelp
Can't fault the service, the sweeping view of Friday Harbor or the ambiance --- this place has all three. What it didn't have was mussels, or salmon, or poke -- which, frankly, is what I came here to eat. Not their fault they sold out, but still a disappointment for me. It's pretty pricy, which I wasn't surprised by, considering the view and location. Im sure this place gets jammed come dinnertime, so probably best to make a reservation.

Yelp
Cora was our charming server. We receded right away and Cora was very busy but we've lacked for nothing because she was so attentive. When the food came out it's stunning. You just wanna look at see what everybody else is eating so you can order some of what they're having. I highly recommend coming here plus the view over the water is just wonderful with this view. five star. I came here with my family and we enjoyed every moment of it and I would totally return again. Thank you for your hospitality Cora. You made this old Vietnam veteran very happy.

Yelp
We walked in around noon and got a table outside with a great view, no wait required. Our waiter had a calm, helpful demeanor, which I really appreciated. I ordered the cold brew, which was pretty standard, and the fried snapper sandwich, which was fantastic. The fish was flaky with no fishy smell, and the spicy slaw was chef's kiss. The mac and cheese can be made vegetarian by substituting mushrooms, and it was really flavorful. Just a heads up, it has a bit of a kick. I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Tried this place out after reading all the great reviews and asking a lady at our hotel if this place was any good. I would say it's okay. It isn't awful but it isn't a must try, i ended up having to grab a small pizza after leaving here though. I did love the atmosphere and beautiful ocean view. Crab deviled eggs - 3/10 nothing special and I'd skip, we were excited to try these but they let us down. Salmon with coconut veggie puree - 9/10 it was on their special menu so I'm not sure if they have it often but if they do it's definitely worth a try. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the puree was delicious. Wagyu burger - 0/10 it was lacking flavor. I asked to get it without bacon due to religious reasons but it tasted and smelled like bacon which grossed me out. I ended up only taking three bites and taking it home to my husband. He thought it smelled and tasted like bacon also without me mentioning it, I hate throwing food away but we had to with this burger. Service - 5/10 we had a reservation but upon arriving we were left waiting for the host for 5-7 mins before being seated. Bus boy was very polite and nice, he kept clearing dishes and pouring water, very nice young man, he is the one I'm giving 5 stars to. Waitress was okay, she disappeared right before closing while there was just us and two other tables left. We were waiting to pay our bill for 15 mins. The stars are for the salmon, view , and the kind young bus boy.

Yelp
We enjoyed our drinks and dinner here with great views, friendly service, and yummy food. I found the menu hard to navigate--having French onion soup, a small salmon option with a vegetable would have been great. As I write, I wish I had asked about a side of salmon with the house salad. I bet that's a great option. I had the burger--it was tasty, and I have half to eat tomorrow, so I fared well. It's pretty, offers good food, and excellent service. We'll be back for more.

Yelp
DownRiggers was an okay restaurant. It wasn't terrible, but the experience was also somewhat disappointing. The service: Now, only two people at my table were asked what they wanted to drink. The rest of us weren't asked and instead we were just given water. The service honestly just felt reluctant, like the servers didn't really want to be there. However, the people who constantly filled up water at tables were super nice and awesome. The food: The food was good, all the orders were correct. The environment: There was some elegant furniture and it was obvious they tried to have that vibe, but it didn't entirely succeed. The restaurant itself was very loud, tables felt crowded together and a little too close, which in turn made it feel messy. It's dimly lit inside, as well, and the menus felt old and flimsy. Final thoughts: In all honesty, it wasn't terrible, but I probably won't be going back.

Yelp
Chilly, rainy day of sightseeing. We decided to try this place, as it was recommended for its clam chowder which was thick, hot and good. I ordered a Washington melot, he ordered the bull jelp esb local beer. Both were good. We splurged on the fresh halibut fish and chips $38. Fries well done and battered fish were both excellent.

Yelp
I am so glad we made reservations as this place was packed! I didn't take any pictures of food but just need to trust me that the downriggers burger was delicious! My husband ordered the chicken and it was tasty too! Not dry and quite savory. I am so happy they were able to accommodate to my request of a perfect view of the water. Despite how packed they were, surprisingly the food came out timely. I would go again next time I'm in town

Yelp
I made a reservation for 5 people at 11am Sunday and it was not busy, but given we went during "shoulder season" right before the summer, I wasn't surprised. But it did feel a bit busy closer to 12pm so a reservation was recommended. This place is conveniently located near the Friday Harbor ferry and seaplane areas. We tried the dungeness crab tots, crab deviled eggs, spicy prawn mac and cheese, and bouillabaisse. The crab tots were large tater tots, 6 pieces for $21 which is a bit pricy, and it did not feel like there was much crab inside. I would not recommend. However, I would 100% recommend the crab deviled eggs - fresh, delicious, and generous amounts of crab meat at 3 for $7 ($2.50 for additional egg). As we had 5 people, it made better sense to just get 2 orders, and this was a crowd favorite, which is no surprise it is one of the more popular dishes. Spicy prawn mac and cheese was very substantial and the prawns were fresh. I would get this one as a better priced entree that is fairly filling. Bouillabaisse had shrimp, scallop, cod, prawns, potatoes, clams, and grilled baguette. However, the dish did not match up the ingredients, as there was no scallop nor clams but rather salmon and mussels. Feels a little misleading so -1 star, especially given that this dish is priced at $42. Additionally, while the seafood was fresh, the dish was forgetful in flavor, with the grilled baguette butter dominating the flavors of the dish. -1 star for the service. Hostess was nice, but it would have been better if I had to not repeat myself multiple times on reservation details. I stated in reservation notes for indoor seating by the window or outdoor seating if weather is nice, then I called about running late and they were okay with it and they asked inside or outside, so I stated outside since the weather was nice. Then, I checked in and the hostess still asked me if I wanted inside or outside, despite clarifying my preference 20 min ago. Additionally, I asked for an extra napkin to the waiter twice and never gotten napkins, a huge miss on service. At least water refills were present but was not enough to make up for a gap in service especially for a restaurant of this price point. Despite the hiccups, I would recommend this place for the location, views, and food.

Yelp
Quick service, good food, great view. Wait time wasn't too bad. Would definately recommend and wil be coming back when back on the island.

Yelp
Fresh, delicious seafood - what could be better?! I dropped by after getting in line for the ferry nearby. I phoned in my order and was able to pickup my lunch sandwich and salad in about 20 minutes. The lunch menu was so full of yummy options it was hard to narrow it down to just two items. The young people working here were very friendly and helpful and I enjoyed my lunch on the dock before getting in the car for the long ride home. I will for sure be ordering from them again in the future. Or next time if I have more time, I'll see what their dining room is like!
google avatar

Supriya L.

Yelp
The restaurant faces the water and has the perfect ambience. The service was great! We ordered the gnocchi, seasonal salmon, clam chowder, wagyu burger and the bouillabaisse. All the dishes were very delicious. They also give complimentary bread with sun dried tomato butter which was also very good. The wagyu burger patty was very soft and tender. The fries were crisp and well fried.

Yelp
Enjoyed my dining experience at this restaurant in Friday Harbor! I came here a year ago and had their clams and had to go back for more. The clams are just as tasty as I remembered! I love the red curry sauce with leeks in them. We got drinks as well and both of them were strong and tasty! I loved the coconut cream in the coconut mojito. The fried calamari was yummy, not too greasy and had a good portion of squid to breaded crumbs. The halibut we ordered was cooked perfectly and they were able to split it on two separate plates ($2 fee though). The service was decently fast for how busy they were and the staff was helpful and friendly. If you're planning to come here on a weekend, I highly recommend to make a reservation.

Yelp
Location is amazing. Sitting out on their patio on a gorgeous PNW September afternoon! They have a great wine selection with a solid variety of pricing. Our server was really kind and made our experience just right. We enjoyed the deviled eggs to snack on and found them to be very well done!
google avatar

Luke P.

Yelp
Great ambience. Had a reservation and got a nice spot outside. Fried calamari was very tasty. The grilled flat iron was pretty good, but not enough for 5 stars. We enjoyed our visit though

Yelp
Fantastic!! Came in for an early lunch right when they opened at 11 and was seated promptly at an outdoor table as requested. The view is great! Watching the boats coming in and out of the harbor, seaplanes landing and taking off. So neat! We ordered the crab deviled eggs as an appetizer and they were super yummy and nicely presented. For the main entrees we got their specials. A short rib sandwich and their seasonal heirloom tomato and crab BLT. They were both delicious but the crab sandwich was the star. Perfectly ripe, flavorful tomatoes, and a ton of yummy crab! Our server Kay was friendly and attentive. Would definitely come here with every visit to Friday Harbor. Very worth it!
google avatar

Jon Z.

Yelp
Downriggers is one of the most popular restaurants in Friday Harbor, so that was our choice the first night we were in. I got the halibut special. I personally thought it was good but not amazing. It was cooked well but could have been seasoned a bit better in my opinion. The whole menu is quite expensive which is to be expected, so keep that in mind as well. The staff was nice and it's right on the water so it has great views of Friday Harbor, so it certainly makes for a nice atmosphere.
google avatar

Bri K.

Yelp
Fantastic service during a recent private dining experience. Attentive to large group of guests. The food and drink were excellent as well. No better place to sit outside in the sun and watch the harbor.
google avatar

Brett M.

Yelp
Service was a lot of attention at the beginning and regular check ins to see if we were good. That was appreciated. The portions of food and quality could have been better especially for the price. Really scenic views of the harbor, from the windows. Good for a date spot if you want a nice spot in the area...but they should either give bigger portions, reduce the price or improve the quality of the food. Either of those things would make me give another star.
google avatar

Genna G.

Yelp
Best restaurant of our trip ( so far ). Sat outside right on the water and it was such a lovely view and atmosphere or as our kids would say " vibe". We started with the crab deviled eggs which was incredible and a light melon salad which was also delicious. I had the salmon which was the special of the night and every bite was delicious and my husband ordered the halibut which he enjoyed immensely as well. Service was friendly and attentive. Wonderful restaurant when visiting Friday Harbor. Would highly highly recommend it.

Yelp
We've been here before- the food is good, the service is also good. But this place isn't cheap, and honestly they need to class up the dress code for staff. Shorts shouldn't be shorter than long, knee length (honestly, capris are more appropriate in nice dining). Last time we were here a younger waitress had on super short shorts. This year, an older waitress had on mid thigh shorts and I am sorry but it looked bad. Bare thighs just aren't something most people want at eye level from their servers regardless of age or body. The wait staff with longer capris and long pants looked much more professional, can we just stick with that? Anyhow, I like the food but dislike the staff dress. It cheapens the feel of the place, which is sad. Our waiter was Sander (or maybe Xander?) and he was an absolute delight, really smart and took great care of us.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
The food is delicious! Staff is very nice. Wait is decent. View Is beautiful. What more can you ask for?
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
Had a good meal there. Food was slow to come out because it was a full house so I asked for a bill and paid before we had even finished eating. About 10 minutes after everyone was finished the manager came over and told us we had to go because they had overbooked the restaurant. He gave us 5 minutes to get out. Apparently they count on the weather always being nice and book all the outdoor seating when they can. Rain has been on today's forecast all week. Pretty embarrassing to have brought visiting friends there. Only one of us had a drink and we were quiet and respectful.

Lori F.

Yelp
Great view, service and cocktails! Lovely atmosphere too! Our waiter Isaac was attentive and it was a pleasant lunch all the way around!
google avatar

Ned L.

Yelp
Yes, nice place, beautiful really, with a view and good service. My meal was also pretty tasty. However, it's crowded and expensive. I arrived mid afternoon to avoid crowds, sat at bar and had wild salmon, mashed potatoes and cider. All excellent. But too many people, and too expensive. Friday Harbor needs more restaurants open after peak season ends.

Jane T.

Yelp
What an awful salad. We went there because of the positive reviews. I ordered a large house salad with dungeness crab. It was expensive so I was expecting chunks of fresh crab. What I got were tiny strands of what looked like canned crab on a large pile of one kind of greens, a few candied nuts and a small amount of gorgonzola. The greens were too large to eat without cutting. - which was nearly impossible because of the curve of the plate. Thank goodness I ordered the bread and butter, (very good) or I would have left hungry. I will never go back. What a rip-off. The service was fine.

Joyce D.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Took my daughter and husband and son in law ALL IMPRESSED! Will come back always.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
My husband I came here for our anniversary dinner while in Friday Harbor. The ambiance wasn't spectacular, much more family friendly than romantic. The food, however, was great! We started with the bread tomato butter and the crab deviled eggs. My husband hates deviled eggs but loved these ones! The filling was light and not overly mayonnaisey. The crab was fresh, the salmon I got with my hummus plate was crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. My husband got the prawns Mac and cheese and loved it. Lovely cocktails as well and great service!
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
Found ourselves in Friday Harbor on an offseason weekday -- limited open places in the colder months so we all gave this place a go. Food was decent. Huge portions -- you will not leave hungry. I think the rest of the group enjoyed their lunch a bit more than me...I went with the pastrami sandwich and house chips. The pastrami was a bit over brined for my taste...but that is a subjective opinion. I still ate over half so it was out terrible. And the chips were good. The rest of the table seemed to enjoy their orders as well.
google avatar

Ridge W.

Yelp
Dan our server was great - and the mussels and bouillabaisse was the best we've ever had ... i wanted to swim in the sauces - but soaking it up with great bread awesome too! The view from outside deck spectacular
google avatar

Alyson O.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because the food was good and came out fast. I originally asked for the grilled cheese from the kids menu and the server said she had to ask because I wasn't a kid. I was upset because I don't eat large portions of food but I felt forced to get something else. All I ask if the people in charge see this is let your customers buy the food they want.

Yelp
Came on a day trip and was surprised of the fast seating. They are to the right of the ferry when you get off, right on the water. They do offer seating on the patio if you have dog which was nice. They do have shading if it's a hot day. Indoor looked really nice and not too loud. 10/10 on all the food. Everything hit the spot. We got the lunch special of the ribeye steak sandwich, the salmon sandwich and the salmon entree . Calamari was really good. We also got the crab devil eggs. Not a big fan of devil eggs but the table enjoyed them. Their bread sticks were nice as well, it came with a side of tomato butter which was a nice touch. We got the oyster app, unsure if it came with four or it's a build your own. The general staff were very attentive and polite. All smiles all around. Sadly our server wasn't as welcoming as the rest of the staff. It was a bit busy and it sounded like she was off soon. She came around less then four times our whole stay(bus boys brought food, filled water, and removed our plates). When taking our order, very short with no recommendations. When asked drink questions she just handed us the drink menu and waited for us to read it. I felt so rushed. On the menu the oysters aren't listed but when ordering them, all the info we got from our server was "we have four different kinds", again felt rushed so we just said give us one of each. Im not expecting our server to be super friendly and over talkative but at least make me feel welcomed and not a burden to wait on. Overall very good views and foods , deserves a five rating and a must stop on your trip to this island :)
google avatar

Kaeleigh S.

Yelp
It's pretty much always delicious, the view and vibes are perfect, and service was great. Absolutely love the oysters, crab deviled eggs, and smoked salmon plate. Husband loves the seafood mac. And I'll be dreaming of the coconut margarita 100000/10
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Amazing experience. We made reservations ahead of time and we were seated immediately. We ordered a ton of appetizers as shown. All GREAT. Crab deviled eggs, burrata, oysters, and ceviche are highly recommended. Even the bread and butter are to die for. Serving sizes are good but the food is so good I wish they were larger! The cocktails were very creative and tasted good. Vibes are perfect. Some folks dress very fancy, some dress casual. Both fit. There are beautiful views of the harbor. I recommend going at sunset. The only downside is the service is a bit slow as the restaurant is always packed.
google avatar

Aaron K.

Yelp
Overall decent but nothing life changing here. The view is pretty. The service was quite good. Food was just average though. Very limited option in the area makes this basically the spot you have to go to however if you want a harbor view.

Yelp
I tried a large cross section of the menu here and the food is a mixed bag ranging from decent to downright unprofessional. That is not a good enough performance for a restaurant priced in a range similar to fine dining establishments in the city. Details below. 1. The calamari. This was actually excellent and the only thing I had that I would want to eat again. The batter is crispy and flavorful and it's the only time I've had it served as chunks rather than rings. This gives it a nice meaty body and is in my opinion the superior way to eat calamari. I have a hard time understanding how the same kitchen that served this calamari produced fish and chips in the state that it was in because... 2. The halibut and chips. This dish does not belong on the menu in its current state. The batter is soggy and flavorless, the portion size is tiny and leaves a lot of empty space on the plate, and at 38 dollars it's almost twice the price of the pub back home while being half the size and having none of the taste or texture. Serving this dish at this price point is insulting. 3. Crab artichoke dip. Decent but very small for the price point. 4. Mad hatcher chicken. An unprofessional dish charged at 29 dollars. It's way too salty with most of it concentrated in the rub on the skin. 5. Scallop gnocchi. Above average dish that feels like a haphazard assortment of decent ingredients served without coherence. The plating is on a wide and shallow dish with all of the components scattered about in a thin sauce. Even a switch to a bowl with layered presentation would make it easier to eat rather than having to play with my food to get a bite with every ingredient on the same spoon. Decent tasting dish with unprofessional presentation for 48 dollars. Service. The waiter tried to snatch the tab and my card from me while I was reading the receipt saying "you'll get it back" and then glared at me. What are you doing. This is a tourist trap that I would avoid, unless it's just to order the calamari.

Yelp
The ambience here was very nice. It was quiet on the bar side and more intimate. The larger side had a very nice view, but since we were there during Thanksgiving, it was colder since it was much more open. The service was extremely nice. Everyone was very professional and laid back at the same time. Very knowledgeable about the menu. My husband really loved his chicken entree and it also was very visually appealing. I had a starter as an entree and was semi-satisfied with my selection. I will not order it again if we go back. We are heading to a different island while visiting, so if we don't go back, it isn't because we don't like the restaurant, it's strictly because of lack of time.

Yelp
We were visiting SJI for a getaway and thought the view would make this place a good meal. Super disappointed in Downriggers. The food was overpriced, underseasoned, and uninspired. Portions were small. The vibe was definitely that of "we've been here forever and we have the proximity to the water and the ferry and we know you'll pay for this boring food" The only thing going for Downriggers is the view.

Yelp
Food was ok, service was friendly. The view was beautiful where we were seated. Came here with a group from work.

Yelp
We ate here twice during our 4 day stay on San Juan Island. We loved sitting outside and enjoying the view, the food was excellent, and the service was friendly. Both of the fish dinner specials while we were there were delicious and made with fresh quality ingredients. Fish and chips were also a hit!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here on our day trip between our sea plane flights and whale watching tour. It was very busy, but we arrived right at 11:00 when it opened. There was already a line forming. We sat outside on the patio for the view. Depending on where the sun is, you are shaded under their umbrellas. We love trying new seafood restaurants. We started with the crab deviled eggs. They were good, but I wish there was more of them. It only comes with 3! We also tried their clam chowder, which was very tasty. For our main meal, we got the cod fish tacos and the crab melt. I don't like Swiss cheese, so I substituted it for American. The crab melt was delicious, but it does have celery in it (which I am not a huge fan of, so be aware). The fish tacos were also pretty tasty. For drinks we ordered a coconut mojito and a Bloody Mary. Both were good, but expensive, but that's to be expected at a restaurant on the island. Our waiter was super friendly and the food came out quickly. Overall, it was a good stop while we were there and it was family friendly!

Yelp
Love the food here! Best burger in Washington, hands down. Amazing brioche bun, perfectly cooked burger covered in cheddar cheese, and bacon jam. Fries are amazing too. The crab melt is always a hit, and the veggie bowl is great too. I'm a fan of cold water oysters and they have the best local options! Lots of windows to enjoy a view of the harbor and ferry traffic. Always amazing service and willing to accommodate dietary needs/requirements.

Yelp
Location was great, service was 5/5 and the drinks were very well executed and everything came out in a timely manner. Unfortunately the food was less than ideal - I got the hummus bowl or something I forget what it was called but had hummus, carrots, zucchini and a few other things plus I added salmon. None of the vegetables were edible - they were all basically raw with some seasonings thrown on them. Hard to chew, and was definitely not expecting semi raw veggies in my bowl. It was. Very busy night so I'll give them a pass, but sadly sid not enjoy my meal. My friend really enjoyed the salmon entree so maybe mine was a one off. The crab dip however was delicious so I'd be willing to give them another try if I'm ever back in town!

Yelp
What a disappointment. We ate here last fall and the food was great. Especially enjoyed the seafood salad, that was generous in size and had lots of seafood. This time, a few months later, some shrimp that I could've bought it at any grocery store, and a couple of globs of crab meat. Tonight I ordered the scallops gnocchi. $48 and I got 3 scallops about the size of a quarter. It should have come with bread, but didn't so we paid extra to get it. Lots of better places to eat in Friday Harbor.
